I really hate to tear down a business as I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, but the treatment we've received from this business has scam written all over it. I'm sad to say we fell for it. I originally found this place on gigster when looking for places to hold our 80+ guest baby shower. We chatted with the owner, Kari and determined that their location at Fashion Island was a great fit for our special event. Initially she was responsive, suggested ideas and honestly really helpful. It seemed great. We then reached the point where we needed to pay for our event in full, just under $2,000, which seemed reasonable for all that we thought we'd be getting. We met with the owners in person about 2-3 weeks before our event to discuss details and ask questions. Kari let us know she'd be emailing us documents to make our final selections in preparation for the big day. Well, this is when things started to take a turn. After that meeting we didn't hear from Kari. We reached out asking to solidify our ice cream choices and party details since it was days away. We were met with the excuse that her dog had passed and she had been a little overwhelmed and would get it to us in a couple days. We were kind and supportive and trusted that to be the case. After quite a few days we reached out again because we were less than a week away from the big event. No response. We continued to reach out daily by call, text and email until we finally received an email 1.5 days before our event saying that they needed to cancel our event! Being 8 months pregnant with people already coming in from out of town, etc, you can imagine the stress this put on me. Kari assured us that it was an issue that was out of their control, that there was no way to utilize the space at all and that they'd be refunding us. I had to take a whole day off work to scramble and find a new last minute venue, last minute decor, desserts, food and all the other things that our package with Atomic was going to be providing. It was truly more stress than any 8 month pregnant woman should have to handle. We pulled it off, but the stress and nightmare of ever doing business with Atomic is still persisting to this day. For weeks my husband was trying to get details about the refund. At first it was going to be back to our card, then it was going to be a cashiers check. Then atomic stopped responding all together. At this point my husband filed a fraud claim with our credit card in the hopes of getting a resolution. Well, we now have received word from our credit card that Atomic is trying to fight the claim!!! What kind of people do this? I'm now over 9 months pregnant, the baby could be here and day, and the last thing we need is to be trying to get back a large sum of money that we really could use for this new chapter of life we are in the thick of. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS. DO NOT RENT THEIR SPACES OR THEIR AIR STREAM. DO NOT SEEK THEIR EVENT PLANNING SERVICES. They sadly put on a show to make us believe they were a wholesome family business that we were happy to support and work with. But in the end that was just to get our money and run. You will see the other most recent reviews are having a similar experience. I honestly believe they were going out of business already and decided they have nothing more to lose. So I came here on Black Friday and they only offered a limited amount of items. I definitely understood considering that there was only one person working there. I didn't necessarily see this as a missed opportunity but quite the opposite. On their limited menu they had "kid flavors" and I opted for the snowman/vanilla in a waffle cone. The other, more intricate flavors weren't so appealing to me but I shouldn't have judged based on the names alone. Because in the end, the vanilla ice cream was phenomenal -- and that's just vanilla! The texture itself was so creamy and smooth, and the flavor was so rich. I tried my friend's chocolate and it was also strong. If this place could make classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla so delicious then I could only imagine their specialties. $6 for this large cone was a pretty good deal! This is my all time favorite ice creamery. I came across them randomly on door dash awhile ago and since then, I've never looked back. We have been ordered through door dash but I placed a recent order directly through the atomic website for delivery in OC and I plan to do that from now on. The owners were just so lovely! I highly recommend atomic! The ice cream is delicious! Their flavors are unique; sometimes they change or there are seasonal/special/limited flavors, so we've been trying to taste them all. I love that every order comes with an assortment of toppings! No flavor has disappointed but just need to say, I personally hate cotton candy flavored anything (it always tastes too artificial to me) BUT the cotton candy ice cream from atomic is sooooo good - I feel like atomic tastes so much more authentic than anything else. This review solely has to do with the owner and how we experienced her, her attitude, and how she was speaking to the kids who were working and running her business. When my family and I came in, the kids working immediately greeted us, were so kind and helpful and truly were running the floor like pros. A few minutes into sitting down, the owner came onto the floor making large sighs, micro managing the kids and was speaking to them in such a belittling tone that the kids were visibly uncomfortable. I came to Yelp to write a review to find out she's unfortunately the owner. And I laughed at her responses to others who have left reviews because it matched what we experienced in person. She is combative, defensive, and truly not appreciative of the kids who are working there and keeping her business running. If you are exhausted being a business owner, maybe it is time to step away or simply relax and stop micro managing kids who are more than capable of providing amazing service to customers. Thank goodness for credit payments as I was able to dispute charges after waiting for a nationwide shipping order placed on July 2023 as a gift that was never fulfilled or refunded. Initially I was able to have communication with Kari and they were very professional and she was initially reassuring. By Oct and Nov communication became sparse and eventually stopped. No response to voice messages so I started leaving emails to track my communication and tried to request cancellations or refunds. Still no response. I gave up and went straight to my bank to request a dispute and get credited. If you plan on placing an online nationwide order, please make sure you do not get charged for the order until the order is fulfilled. I'm going to assume the online ordering is closed because they're temporarily closed, but you never know! As much as I'd like to rate this business based on their products, I cannot. Review from 4/20/22, before relocation. This ice cream place was the solution to our ice cream cravings after a long day of shopping. After being disappointed from an expensive gelato place around the corner, we found Atomic Creamery! The interior is a cute 70s retro style decor that is very appealing these days. Our big group of 6 people were excited to scour the menu and choose from the variety of flavors and styles of ice cream. As a group of students, we also liked that they were offering student discounts on Wednesdays (and it just happened to be a Wednesday that we came!) They have a variety of floats, milkshakes, cones, and cups (dairy-free options too!) Our group was able to try all varieties, aside from the cones. The ice cream itself was good as well. Nice texture and flavors, however it became too sweet as we kept on eating. It would be nice to have a free water station to overcome the sweetness. They do have water bottles for sale, but we did not want to pay for one and decided to get free water cups from one of the food court restaurants. The only real downside that we experienced was the wait time. Although we were a big party of 6, no one else was there and it took the two workers about 10-15 minutes to finish the first float order (vanilla ice cream with root beer). The rest of the milkshakes and cup took another 10-15 minutes. I have been to a handful of ice cream places with big groups and I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to wait for the whole group to get their orders. On top of the wait times, my sister requested no whipped cream on her milkshake, but hers still came out with whipped cream. We were able to get this fixed and they let us keep both milkshakes. Overall, Atomic Creamery filled our ice cream cravings on a hot day and had convenient pricing. Grasping Straws: 5/5 - Made with strawberry puree and sliced local strawberries, Grasping Straws is very pink and tastes super fresh. We stopped in here yesterday and got a couple scoops in the afternoon. Our timing was right because demands was so high during the heat wave that they actually ran out! I chatted with the gentleman running the place after he closed the doors - they even ordered extra dairy this weekend in anticipation of the extra business, but still didn't have enough! After having a scoop or two, I can see why. Everything is fresh and organic, the ice cream is smooth and the flavors are rich. I had the Nutella-flavored ice cream, and my +1 had a vanilla/cake mix called AB2. Both were fantastic. The lettuce is pretty reasonable for gourmet ice cream at Fashion Island. Cute interior and creamy ice cream! I came here on national ice cream day and got the buy one get one simple small for free deal. I tried the bean mi and mooless gramhattan project. Both were really good but I think I prefer their dairy free oat milk base over the regular milk base because it is much creamier! Really wanted to try their seasonal strawberry ice cream but they ran out within the hour of opening. I will definitely be back for more dairy free ice cream even though I'm not lactose intolerant! Also side note: their small is extremely large and sharable. I've tried to come several times before COVID but one time it was closed when it was supposed to be open and another time the cashier tablet was not working properly so they weren't able to take orders. Ice cream is great but some flavors may be sold out when you arrive, such as the Halva flavor i wanted to try. Also, please be aware that the nostalgic flavors are only served on the specific days of the week listed on the board. Also, please be aware that they Cannot mix two scoops together into one cup. I tried to order 2 scoops and was told I would get 2 separate cups. The only sizes are "giant 1.5 fist size" and tiny 3 oz taster size. With my flavor choice, I got to pick a free topping, as if the ice cream itselt isn't already to die for. You know I had to get chocolate drizzle on my cookies&cream flavor. After my first time coming, I had a 15% off your next purchase which was nice. I came back the next week and tried the Chocolate Atom with Oreo as my topping. Again, killer. My man tried the Butter Pecan(of which I had to have a bite.. for research purposes) and again it was amazing. It seems like you can order literally anything here and it is bomb. People can decide to read my review and take it to heart and decide to choose elsewhere or to take it with a grain of salt and try it out for themselves. This was my personal experience with this business. When I came into the business, the first thing the staff member told me was everything that was not available for that day. I went on a Saturday afternoon, probably a busier a day, so maybe that's why the selection was limited. Or maybe it's because of lack of inventory. I wouldn't know, which is why I added it to my review, in case that was a big deal to other people who wish to come here. I did not make a horribly big deal about the fact that their selection was limited, I said "it sucked but we worked around it". I did not misunderstand the cashier, he actually stated everything that was not available that day, not explaining the menu, just saying what they were out of. Yes, I understand all of the ingredients in the Owen Experiment, thank you for explaining the whole process for me. But I am saying that when you get into the cup, it is filled with marshmallows inside. The actual ice cream portion inside is minimal compared to the toppings. Yes, it had the strawberries, oreos, etc, but it was a lot of extra topping rather than actual ice cream itself. Also, I had not realized that it was filled with so many said toppings until I had already started eating, and I didn't want to go back to make it seem like I just wanted a freebie. Went here a couple of weeks ago, and omg I love it!!! Okay so first off: the place is soooo cute! It definitely has that retro diner aesthetic, clean too! They definitely maintain the place well. I came here after seeing a post on Instagram about their Booza Baklava Ice Cream Sandwich collaboration with foodbeast. When I got there, the owner was heading out. I asked her if she wanted me to come later, but she asked me to come on in and took my order. I ordered the ice cream sandwich, and she made the ice cream on the spot. She also gave me a small cup of the booza ice cream by itself, so I could taste how it was traditionally served. While I was there, she told me about the collaboration and how booza is traditionally consumed. She was also kind enough to give me lots of food recommendations for other spots I might enjoy in the area. The Baklava was flaky and the the booza complemented it well. Booza itself pulls apart like traditional gelato. It is lightly sweet and has a light floral note to it. It is absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend. My wife and I are obsessed with Atomic Creamery. In fact, her only demand for her birthday this year was that we go to there for an afternoon treat. In my opinion, The Gramhattan Project flavor is the best flavor of ice cream I've ever had. Sweet, salty, crunchy and creamy (yeah, I know) it's truly one-of-a-kind and incredible. Not worth the cost for a birthday party We had fun, but want to share feedback on a couple things. Cake wasn't what we asked for. The candle was as a joke, and we were charged $10. Also, Super disappointed In cupcakes!! Found out they came from Whole Foods for $9.00! ( we were charged $30) Pretty sure that wasn't disclosed, as we thought they would come from the bakery that "made the cake". I feel like the cake was purchased, as well. Wow! Amazing ice cream and Exceptional service. Each time we are here, the owners are always welcoming and helpful with the menu. I have been coming here for the last 2 years and it just gets better! During my vacation to Newport Beach i have came here 7 days in a row and just cant get over of how creamy and delicious the ice cream is!
