A friend recommended this place, and according to other reviews, it seems the shop owner does very good work. I won't find out firsthand, though. I walked in hoping to buy just a basic bike, and when I said that, the shop owner, who was already angry for some reason, told me he didn't have many left, and that the bikes outside (numerous bikes are chained in front of the shop) are high-end vintage bikes and repairs. As I tried to clarify whether "repairs" meant bikes he's repaired and were for sale, or other customers' repairs, he fumed that that the vintage bikes were to the RIGHT outside, and the repairs, which, he said he HOPED people would pick up, are to the LEFT. Okay. Got it. Considering world, national and local events, this man is probably overwhelmed, in several ways. Like all of us. All the more reason to lead with compassion, or at least civility. I'll head for a shop where my desire to buy a bike won't infuriate the shop's owner. read more

Hole in the wall bike shop in the Valley. You don't see places like this in this neighborhood, but it's a perfect companion to Pogos, which is right next door. The place is filthy, with dust and parts everywhere. Nothing seems organized but that doesn't take away from the service you can get here. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about his trade. I went in (luckily it was empty) and had two flats repaired. I asked him a couple questions while he was repairing them and he was willingly helpful. Seems like a cool guy. read more

Great place to buy a used bike or get a tune up. I once bought a beautiful vintage 80s schwinn bike from there and it is a solid ride. Paul is awesome and he is super honest and fair. He doesn't charge you for unnecessary work and gives the option of using used parts to bring the cost down. I once thought I had to change my rear derailleur and he told me I just had to spray my shifters cuz it was gunked up. This is a great place for budget minded folks who want a no nonsense kinda place. There should be more bike shops like this! read more

Came in to get my daughters tire fixed. The guy is very knowledgeable about bikes and very cool to talk with. Repaired my daughters bike in less than 10 minutes and charged me a lot less than other shops around. Definitely will come back again. read more

Brought my daughter's bike in for some training wheel's. He hooked me up with some used ones, put them on, filled the bike up with air. $5 and I was out of there in less than 5 minutes. I came back another time, and he was too busy to take me on the spot, so I bought a tube from him. He could of easily said, good luck with that. This is one of the last good ol' American owned and operated by a good ol' American with a code of work ethic that is outstanding. Brought in my dad's 1972 Schwinn Super Sport for a pedal change. Was informed pedals were incorrect for crank. Asked if the crank could be lubed. Job was completed in about 10 mins. and the cost was almost nothing. Will go out of my way too have my bikes serviced here instead of the overpriced and rude snarky staff at Reseda Bicycle. Paul is the BEST! read more

I honestly thought I lost hope when it came to my classic schwinn bike. I was riding it the other day and the gears snapped. I'm a poor college student who is absolutely dependent on his bike for school usage. Atomic cycles is the best damn place I have seen in years of cycling to go to repair a bike. I've gone in with the most screwed up of problems and he's not only fixed it all up within hours, but is so god damn cheap. He is an honest man and he will not rob you, he has no incentive for that. Paul the owner-you either love him or hate him. It takes a while to get his personality. It seems that if you are in his circle you are in and you are good, but if you are an outsider he is not going to do much for you and he's not going to make any effort to make you comfortable. Been to the store multiple times, his prices are pretty good, but there is no give. I went in only needing a back rim for my beach cruiser and he would only sell them in pairs.$70 for the pair, not too bad. Went in with an old nothing special bike, thought maybe he would want it for parts, and he was an ass about giving him a free bike. On the positive side he puts together some pretty intense bad ass rides that need some effort to keep up with. He also puts on some gatherings in the parking lot that are entertaining with competitions and rides and lots of free food. read more

Love, love, love this bike shop. Paul is epic. He's a little rough around the edges, but he's no BS. He fixes beater bikes like mine for a fair price. I take them to Burning Man, they get thrashed, I bring'em back and he makes them happy again. What's more, he's built up a nice little community of fellow bikers that come from near and far gravitating to this little hole in the wall of a shop for some pretty rad cycling events. I don't know why there are so many haters leaving not so nice reviews. Paul's policy is really very simple: first come, first served. It's FAIR people!!!! Get over yourselves. Oh, and one more thing: Paul straight up told me he wouldn't work on my electric scooter like fix a flat or adjust the brakes. Nope, he says, he won't do it. Says he hates'em because they're just too time intensive to deal with and he's got a line of people waiting. So, well, you should ask the dude that fills in for him when Paul goes on vacay. He doesn't mind the extra work and he did a fantastic job. In fact, I think he made it even better than when I brought it in. Need a bike shop? The owner is the coolest, down-to-earth business owner that you will ever encounter. He is a master in his trade. He has a quick turnaround for repairs and a high level of expertise. I bought an old Redline MX-III on Ebay. When it arrived, I quickly found some problems, the main problem being that the seatpost was stuck in the frame. I spent the better part of a day trying to get it out with no luck. Knowing that the bike shops around me (Glendale) suck when it comes to Old School BMX, and the one bike shop (Bicycle Station in Highland Park) I liked closed down, it was time to find a new shop. I dropped my bike off to Paul. Within 2 hrs he had the seatpost out, cleaned out/rebuilt the bottom bracket, replaced a short brake cable, and adjusted the brakes. I was prepared for him to have my bike for at least a week, so when he called 2 hrs later I was blown away. The price was so reasonable that I tipped him an extra $15 or so. I don't know about going here for new bikes, as I didn't really see any. But, for my needs this place is perfect. Who knows, if I can get my riding chops back in shape I might even join them on some of the rides they host too. read more
