I removed my in-ground spa and used Hector to clean my bricks, cut them, installed rebar, place and grouted the bricks. He also removed the plastic junk my patio cover people placed in my old patio cover post holes and installed rebar all on day one. Poured the concrete and continued my salt finish on day two. Today he came and swept up the salt, hosed it down and see the results! I had spoken to several handymen who didn't want to do this job as well as got a bid from another masonry company with a price I was shocked with who was recommended to me. Our front porch had some loose tiles, chipped tiles, and missing grout and I wanted to get it repaired from a safety standpoint (job#1) and ideally an aesthetics standpoint (job#2). Truthfully, I should have made this job happen sooner, but life happens sometimes. I gathered a few estimates (in-person or via photos submitted) and Garrison's estimate was comparable to one and lower than another. Once I met him however I knew he was the guy I was going with. He exhibited professionalism right out of the gate (ironically soon after entering our gate). He tapped on some tiles and pointed out the hollow sound which indicated they were already compromised for a variety of reasons he cited. I could not recite all the reasons but while writing this review I checked the Internet and the reasons cited were what I remembered him saying. As a result, he recommended the most cost-effective solution mentioned above. He stated that otherwise any effort to replace tiles could damage others and result in our needing a whole new patio. I really respected and appreciated that in spite of our current job being a smaller one he never treated it that way. There was no "see you in a month" attitude. Our appointment was set for less than a week later. All our interactions via text were professional, not rushed and again he never treated me as if our job was a low priority. Once completed the job looked well executed and professional and our porch looks much improved and of course safer. I have not been able to test my hooves on it as it was just completed, and it needs 24 hours of dry time. The experience was so positive I am definitely seeking an estimate from him for a "down-the-road" tub/shower replacement for our guest bathroom.

We added on a 200 sq foot master closet room and originally went to G & A to look at carpeting for the new closet. Not only did Brandon spend a lot of time with us on the carpet (which was a small job), he inquired if there was anything else they could assist with. We quickly learned that G & A does not just specialize in flooring, they provide a wide variety of services. In addition to carpeting, we needed painting, stone for countertops and expanded our project to replacing the tile in our laundry room (a long want on my wish list). I got 5 bids for painting and when combining all the above services, Brandon came in with the most competitive pricing. We went with G & A and are so happy that we did. I never felt like he was trying to upsell us and we felt their prices were very fair. In fact, Brandon offered us options with the stone that were more economical than other brands. Brandon was with us every step of the way! When the tile I picked out for the laundry room was discontinued, he found one very similar which I ended up liking better anyways. When they started the laundry room project, while removing the old baseboards, there was an issue with some of the drywall. Brandon quickly stepped in and had one of his guys perform drywall repair right away so as to not stall the project. They removed and reinstalled the washer/dryer as well. They also updated the 20 year old baseboards to match the rest of the house. All of G & A's laborers that worked in our home were courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. Brandon kept us advised every step of the way. I STRONGLY recommend G & A for any home improvement needs you may have and don't forget, they do way more than flooring! Joe did an excellent job -- A+ -- on my shower replacement and I am very pleased with the result…read more Joe came to estimate the work, providing good suggestions (enlarging size, adding bench, angled glass enclosure). He gave me a reasonable price with no pressure. The job involved removing the old tub/shower, replacing the plumbing, building a bench, wet-mopping, adding cement-backing, installing porcelain tile, replacing the flooring, adding drywall (including re-stucco-ing, and repainting). Each team - demolition, plumber, framing, wet-mop, tiler, dry-wall/painter - was professional, competent, hardworking, and clean-minded. Keep in mind that this is not a one day job --- mine took 1 1/2 weeks. Joe was always responsive to my calls and kept the job moving. Also, his quote does not include the glass enclosure. Joe sent me a good glass enclosure contractor and he added an additional week - 1 day for estimate, 5 days to cut/temper the glass, and one day to install. I enjoyed watching them work. To get the job done right, there is a lot of expertise involved. My wife was so grateful that she always provided snacks and water for the crews.

My experience with Joe, the manager who handled most of the communication, was terrible. In my opinion, he did not have enough hands-on construction knowledge to properly manage a remodel. He seemed to rely almost entirely on what his employees or subcontractors told him, even when they were wrong. When I pointed out mistakes, he often pushed back, blamed me, or tried to make me pay to fix issues caused by his own crew. A few examples: -We specified grout colors, and they used them on the wrong tiles and areas. -The wrong sinks were ordered. -The wrong faucets were ordered. -The wrong tiles were ordered. -The wrong counter top was delivered. -Kitchen cabinets were faulty and installed improperly. -They promised one type of flooring, then delivered something completely different, including a different color, and installed it incorrectly. -They tried to conceal faulty piping inside my walls. Had I not walked in unexpectedly, I would never have seen it. -They poured a foundation for a small extension without making it deep enough or installing a moisture barrier. We now have tiles showing signs of moisture damage. -They did not repaint several rooms. They cleaned the walls and then claimed the rooms had been painted. -The electrician made serious mistakes, including issues that almost caused a fire in my house. The overall pattern was simple: -They made mistakes. -I had to catch the mistakes. -Joe often tried to shift blame. -They tried to charge me to fix problems they caused. I also felt like Joe tried to take advantage of me financially. He handwrote the quote and invoice, and I trusted that the items we discussed would be handled as agreed. Later, he tried to back away from what had been discussed and claimed certain items were not included. Only after I involved the owner did Joe back down and admit he had made a mistake. There were also major management and communication problems: -Joe is not the contractor who owns the business. -From what I saw, there was no professional contractor consistently supervising the crew. -Joe would come by occasionally, look around, speak with the crew, and leave. -The crew often seemed confused about what needed to be done. -Communication between Joe and the crew appeared poor, which caused constant errors. The crew was also a revolving door. Different people came on different days. One person would start the flooring, and others would come later to finish it. The same thing happened with tile, plumbing, electrical work, and other parts of the project. Each time someone new showed up, they seemed to have little or no idea what had been agreed to. Joe also asked personal questions that made us uncomfortable, including: -Where are you from? -What do you do? -Can I see your cars? -"Wow, you went to that restaurant? It's very expensive." -"This was an expensive house. You must be very rich." That felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. Overall, this was a nightmare experience. Never again. The only reason I am giving two stars is that they finished quickly, and by the end, I was simply relieved to have them gone.

Tanner showed us Bjelin flooring that was gorgeous, exactly what we wanted. It was a relatively new product, but he spoke confidently about its durability. When he came to measure, I specifically showed our 15-year-old kitchen tile, which had become badly dinged over time, and asked if the new flooring would eventually look the same. I emphasized that durability was #1 to us. He assured me this flooring was exceptionally durable and would not end up looking like that. We received another quote about $2k less, but chose MAC because we expected a smoother project with them if anything went wrong. Sadly, that was not our experience. The product we were sold is not right for our family, and there were also problems with installation, communication, workmanship, and care of our home. Before the project began, I asked about protecting our cabinets and window shutters from construction dust. I was told by email and by project manager Matt that I didn't need to do anything because the crew would handle it. They did not. Only the kitchen cabinets were covered. When we returned home, dust was everywhere inside built-ins and bathroom cabinets and all over the shutters. I spent significant time cleaning and had our housecleaners help at an additional cost. Matt said a lockbox would be used for our key. Instead, I found our key sitting outside next to a planter. He also said he would meet me on the first morning to walk through everything. I waited, but no one came or even contacted me. They also showed little care for our property. They left large chunks of wood and sawdust throughout our yard and poured leftover concrete along the side of our house, onto our stepping-stone walkway and around plants where our children play. And then there was the workmanship. When we returned home, we found: * Multiple noticeable scratches on our new flooring * A dishwasher that could not open because the toe kick was too tall * A big hole in the drywall from demo * A large gap in another section of toe kick * The kitchen toe kick painted the wrong color * Missing hearth trim because they had ordered the wrong length * Finishing trim that took multiple visits to complete * Drain stopper of our newly installed bathroom faucet was broken and hidden * Our couch feet reinstalled incorrectly with stripped screws, requiring us to pay the couch company to repair them It took 6 days after I reported the dishwasher issue before they came back to remove the toe kick, meaning I couldn't use my dishwasher for nearly a week. The plumber they sent also hooked the dryer up incorrectly, so it was venting humidity back into our house. We were charged literally $900 for this work. When I brought up the broken drain stopper with Matt, he said his crew hadn't done it, but would cover the replacement. We had to contact the manufacturer, learn the stopper couldn't be purchased separately, and replace it ourselves. The lack of accountability was a recurring theme. When Kristin walked through the problems, she acknowledged some poor workmanship, but there was no recognition of the inconvenience this project had caused. And the flooring itself has been the biggest disappointment. We don't wear shoes in our house, put area rugs throughout the downstairs, every piece of furniture has thick felt pads, and we are extremely careful not to drag anything across the floor. Yet I discover new scratches daily. My children cannot even play normally with ANY toys on the floor without scratching it. The installation was supposed to take one week. Instead, the crew returned at least six additional times for repairs, mistakes, unfinished work, and corrections. It was summer and each time they came back was a morning I couldn't take my kids out to do something fun. The last few visits were particularly telling. MAC sent a guy who was already leaving the company to repaint the kitchen toe kick. He determined it needed primer, but instead told me to prime and paint it myself. I followed his instructions, but paint and primer leaked under the tape because it wasn't properly sealed. I then spent HOURS cleaning paint off our brand-new floors--something I never should have been responsible for. We expected a high level of care and professionalism for an $18,000+ project. Instead, we felt our home, time, and concerns were repeatedly treated as inconveniences. We trusted MAC to recommend a product that would work for our family after I specifically raised durability as a concern. We now have an expensive floor that requires constant babying and continues to scratch despite our care.
