I have been to this tea house a few times, usually after eating at Mokkoji. I like it, but I will say the milk tea is REALLY milky and some of the drinks are pricey! My friend ordered the Lavender Milk Tea with honey and it was $7! There was no boba in it either! I got the Rose Milk tea with chia seeds, 25% sugar and that was a little over $5. My other friend got the Oolong milk tea 50% sugar for around the same. Also if you use your credit card they charge you a 30c fee. They take your name down and bring out your drink - which is nice. My drink was nice but the milkiness slowly took over. My friend who got the $7 drink did not like it and eventually asked for another drink - the passionfruit tea with 50% sugar - better but still really sweet. Came here last night to Au79 in Arcadia. I haven't been here for a while but now compared to years ago, you first order/pay at the counter and then you find a seat. It seems like it's a reasonable system and flow that they have implemented. The store is a good size, but it can be tough to find a table when it's busier on the weekends. I ordered the rose green milk tea and it wasn't bad. Their mini boba is pretty good, the regular sized one is pretty standard. I used to go to the san gabriel location (no longer there). Nowadays, I always pick up honey green tea and strawberry green tea with egg pudding (on the side, it doesn't mixed well with the strawberry) on the way to my friend's house. This has been my favorite boba spot in LA, ever since my cousin introduced me to it several years ago. Yes, it can be a little pricier in comparison to other tea shops, but they upgrade the size of your drink and throw in boba all at no additional cost. Mango green tea (with minimal ice and adequate sugar) is my jam - I can drink it for days if made right. And at this place, they always get the taste right. Even when they get my order wrong, the drink is still bomb (ended up with a passion fruit green tea and now it's on my list of go-to choices along with the peach green tea). The tea is always flavorful and well brewed. Service is usually sufficient and I have yet to be irked by the wait as some people have mentioned. Second time at this location, last time was about 6 years ago, and it does not disappoint. Deviated from my usual green milk tea with boba and got the Hokkaido milk tea with boba instead to try, it was one of the better Hokkaido teas I've had recently. The boba was nice and chewy and my son liked it a lot when he sipped some to try. Also ordered the popcorn chicken with spicy powder on the side as I was sharing with my kids. It was a hit, we all liked their popcorn chicken. 1 drink and 1 order of popcorn chicken came to a bit over $14 after tax, which is pretty normal for todays price now. What kind of boba place runs out of boba??! So last night, at around midnight, were driving past Arcadia and make an impromptu decision to get boba. Because it was so late, there weren't that many options, but my friend insisted that the pink boba at Au79 was worth a try. There was plenty of parking and good amount of people both inside and outside. We decided to get some food as well, so I'm glad they offer snacks like Taiwanese style fried chicken, fried tofu and sweet potato fries. I ended up getting the fried chicken plate, which comes with corn, rice and cabbage. I thought it was a good deal for only $6.50 and the chicken was crisp and nicely seasoned. The boba situation was kind of a disaster. They ran out of boba, every kind, so I had my honey milk tea with custard instead. My gripe with this place is that the person who took our order didn't know what dairy was. My friend is vegan and doesn't consume dairy. When she asked about if the milk/creamer they use has dairy, the waiter didn't know and had to ask someone. He came back to say it was lactose-free, which didn't answer the question. He then kind of mixed up our drink orders... Also, I get the whole Au79 name, so cool that it's code for gold and all, but technically, it should be capital A and lowercase U. read more

Au79 is a real solid boba place. It's hard not making a stop everytime I get groceries. My go to drinks are the yogurt green tea and Thai milk tea, but I also really like their barley milk tea, kumquat black tea, mill green tea, and their mango yakult bingsa. The pink boba is also really good. They're really quick with their online orders too. It's almost always done before the estimated time, which is great for impatient people like me. It's also nice that it's in a huge plaza where finding parking isn't a pain. Let's be real, there's some real good boba places in SGV with crap parking that make it not with going to. Whenever I do my shopping in the plaza, I always see AU79 and I've been meaning to try it and now I have. Just be advised that the prices are pretty steep; although some of their drinks can be a hit and miss, there are some diamonds in the rough that are worth trying. So far, the drinks that we've tried are: 1. Rose black tea 2. Honeydew milk 3. Coconut milk tea 4. Apple green tea The rose black tea and honeydew milk were both bland despite asking for the "regular" amount of sugar. These are better to skip over. My boyfriend liked his coconut milk tea; I'm not a big fan of coconut so you can try it for yourself and see how you like it. Amidst the drinks that I've ordered, the best thing I've tried there is the apple green tea. It literally tastes like a jolly rancher. Yummy and refreshing. A nice thing about this place is that if you order iced drinks (only) to go, you get a free size upgrade! A downside is that you have to pay $1 for a stamp card. They accept the five star rewards card, but only if you buy it from them. My boyfriend already has a rewards card but it's not applicable at this location. THE YUM::: Ahh AU79...I've grown quite fond of you! It's sufficiently good and reasonably priced boba and comfort food for that quick bite to eat. We usually get the Taiwanese spaghetti and the marinated pork soup with egg noodles. Both are pretty good, so we rarely deviate from the two in terms of eats here. NOTE: If you get the Taiwanese spaghetti, make sure to eat it right away when it's hot and creamy because it tastes best that way! THE TEAS::: The milk teas here are also not bad at all. I've had the regular, strawberry, barley, and rose milk teas so far and they're pretty solid and flavorful. I like that you could adjust your level of sweetness for the teas, and for me, 25-50% sweet is usually perfect. Boba here is appropriately subtle sweet in that honey flavor and squishy! Sometimes, they have free size upgrade if you get the regular milk tea. THE VERDICT::: Service is friendly, and food/drinks come out fast. I love the sample teas right next to the register that you could try. Furthermore, there's plenty of parking in this plaza! Seats kinda limited, and crowd is more high school/college students and people playing cards games/gambling. I've been to a lot of boba places and this place is consistently dependable. Once in awhile I will stop by this tea house to grab a drink. If I do go to an AU79, I usually will end up in the San Gabriel one. This location is nicer than the San Gabriel one. Yes, people comes in spurts. When I walked in during a weekday afternoon, I didn't know where everybody came from. I thought it was a holiday or something where nobody works or goes to school. Anyhow, the place died off as fast as it got busy. I ordered their almond milk tea with pink bobas. They ran out of the regular ones, so they asked if I wanted the pink ones. I didn't know pink bobas existed. But if it tastes good... I'm up for it. I asked for less sugar in my drink, but it was still mixed too sweet. I originally asked for water to dilute it. However, the waitress offered to pour in more tea... so no problem. While I was drinking my milk tea, for some reason the mixer mixed another one for me with less sugar. The waitress just brought it over to the table, and took my old one and dumped it. I thought that was weird... but at least they made sure I was happy with my drink. The second cup ordered is half price if it's the same drink from the get go. You know me, I have a sweet tooth and had to order the second one at half price because I couldn't resist the boba milk tea temptations! I do like this place, and I will probably come a little more often. It's just a bit out of my way from being centralized around my office and job sites. I have been to AU so many times this past month that the workers are beginning to remember me. I remember getting it once last year and thought it was nothing special, but ... I don't know if it's just me, the teas are getting a lot better. I also love the boba at this AU location. Always cooked perfectly, never too chewy. I've tried their pudding milk tea ... nothing too special about their regular milk tea, but I really like their green/black teas! I'm always on the lookout for good but not overly expensive boba. A drink at Tea Station is about $5-6 and a drink at Ten Ren's is also really expensive. But AU has specials that really compel me to come get tea, haha. They had the free upgrade to a large on all to-go drinks during the summer, and I know that if you show your student I.D., you also get a free upgrade to large on the Bing Sa series. This month they are having their anniversary special where you get a BOGO free drink on all green/black teas - except the free drink is the exact replica of the first drink. But hey, if you split it with two people, it's pretty darn worth it! And I think they have a free upgrade to large if you dine in. Anyway, I really love their mango green tea. It's really good! And their passion fruit green tea is pretty darn delicious as well. (Passion fruit black tea leaves your mouth with a really weird aftertaste.) And my new favorite - rose black tea! If you really like rose flavored things, like rose macarons, you'll really like this flavor of tea! I could really taste the rose flavor and it wasn't overpowering or anything. The only thing is that you have to drink this drink cold ... otherwise it doesn't taste too great. I've also tried Chrysanthemum tea ... it's good, but so expensive! About $6.11 for a large iced one. Sweet potato fries and popcorn chicken are decent as well. I think it's around $3-$4 for popcorn chicken, but if you get the popcorn chicken with rice, it's like $5... I don't like eating here because the service isn't that great and they don't really notice you. I prefer just ordering to-go and drinking my drink at home or wherever. They have a minimum $3 charge for each dine-in customer, and a $3 minimum to use credit card (which isn't hard since their drinks are about $3 and up). I've tried the pink boba as well ... I prefer the regular/mini boba. The pink tastes a little artificial. And the mini boba is always my favorite, though they run out towards the end of the night. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly so it's the perfect place for me to bring my furry friends to enjoy a refreshing drink and hang out with my human friends. My brother says the Royal Milk Tea here is the best he's ever had and my favorite is the almond milk tea which is one of my favorite flavored milk teas to order. Drove here after hiking the Eaton Canyon for a refreshing drink. After waiting patiently in a line that snaked out through the door, I was very disappointed when I attempted to place my order. I was craving a refreshing, healthy watermelon fresh juice after reading the reviews for this place on Yelp. The cashier told us that they were out of watermelons. I then went on to order a strawberry milk black tea with their famous pink boba that everyone raves about. The cashier said they were out of pink boba. The cashier wasn't apologetic about their limited supply of drinks and toppings, but rather rushed me into placing an order so that she could get the line moving. Don't trust the pictures on yelp and in stores! They do not look anything like the drinks themselves. On yelp, the strawberry milk tea came with real strawberries. In actuality, there was not one single strawberry seed in sight; instead, the drink was jam-packed with strawberry syrup. The fresh berry oolong tea looked like a nice, refreshing, crisp iced tea with fresh berries on the poster in the store. The drink came out looking like an acai smoothie. They corrected their mistake, but the boba I received was a little too hard and needed to be boiled/softened just a little bit more. Also, I didn't get much boba in my drink. My friend who specifically asked for "less boba" got twice the amount as I did. Haha, so in short, they got all our orders mixed up. I come here every so often if I want pink boba. I came right around 12:30 am on Saturday night/Sunday wee morning and they close right at 1 am on the dot, meaning they politely kicked us out right as 1 am rolled around. I had the honey green tea at half sugar with pink boba ($3.50 + $0.50 for boba add-on). Forgot to ask them to go light on the ice, but it came without too much ice. Score. Drink was pretty good and a nice contrast to the milk tea with boba I had earlier in the night at Boba 7. note that pink boba taste the same as regular boba; it's just the novelty of the color. The three of us also split the snacks combo C, which had popcorn chicken, fried calamari, and fried fish balls. I recently had popcorn chicken at Guppy's and AU has infinitely better popcorn chicken. Everything is pretty well seasoned in the combo and was a great late night snack. Now, what bothers me here is that AU charges $1 for their plastic rewards card. It's not the Five Stars card but their own AU card. I don't know when they started doing this, since I had a plastic card already from 2012, but it sucks that they are charging for the card. But then again, guess it's not the end of the world since they still offer some rewards program. I just found out Honeyboba is ending theirs as of 1-1-16. -_- 3.5 stars for the food and drink. I'll keep it rounded to 4 stars, but the issue with the rewards card does drop AU lower on my list of to-go places for boba. read more

This place has been here for quite a while. And to be honest, as an Arcadian born and raised, this place is hands-down my favorite place for boba. I started coming when I was little with my mother just to grab a drink late at night. Now it's become a routine thing. Even though the prices rose dramatically.... I'm definitely a loyal customer. What makes me keep coming back? Not their food, not their special drinks, but their green milk tea. It's different from any other green milk tea from any other place, and there's a slightly flowery taste to it - no other boba shop compares. It goes well with lychee jelly, aloe, or boba, but sometimes I can just get it without any toppings. Their peach green tea or mango green tea are also pretty good, but I suggest getting less sweet since they run on the sweeter side. As for food, the Taiwanese spaghetti is a tasty dish, although it's probably the only dish I've tried there. Also, there's always samples to try next to the cashier, a plus if you want to try one of their originals. So don't be turned off by all the people smoking in front - their green milk tea is definitely worth it. read more
