Let's do a math problem. I'll cut to the chase. Ordered the ribs, two steaks, one medium rare and one rare. Was told the ribs came in 4-5 servings. We got... Two medium well steaks with 2-3 halves of fingerling potatoes and a handful of asparagus. And one rib. Didn't eat the steaks, sent them back. Sent back the rib as it was mostly gristle and fat Discussed with management. I've loved coming here before, but this was really disappointing as I had really been looking forward to a good meal, but didn't have time for them to remake everything. Gster and I have come here twice now, and both times I have been overly impressed. The atmosphere is dark, cozy, and inviting... if you aren't on a date, it makes you feel like you are on a date. The back patio is probably my favorite part, with fun bamboo, strung overhead lights, and lots of seating. One of the most noticeable features both times that I have come is the music... for some reason the music has fit my mood, and made the experience that much better. The atmosphere wins my full points. The drink menu is fun, unique, and interesting. There are combinations that I wouldn't think would work, but they do. The food menu changes often, and was different both times we went. However, we tried several apps and a homemade pasta meal, and it was delicious. I love this place mostly because it isn't downtown... it's hidden, it doesn't stand out, it doesn't try to get noticed. But it should, because it is that great. However, I hope that it doesn't because that is what makes it so inviting, so unique, and so enjoyable. From the outside, it looks like just another average neighborhood bar, given the "BAR" sign that sits on top of it. Went to the Isabella Gardner museum and yelped to find a place nearby for lunch on a rainy Sunday. It is within 5 minutes of the museum, right between Fenway and the MFA. We arrived just as the menu changed from Brunch to Dinner. The brunch menu was small, but had some unique items and included a Bloody Mary ordering check list, reminiscent of a sushi sheet. The cocktail menu had some interesting choices. The Heron decided on the Darkwing Duck (delicious, strong, and made him say "let's get dangerous!"), and I had the Half Moon Buck, which was zingy with ginger and very refreshing. The dinner menu was also small, but had enough compelling options to make for some tough decision making. We started with the crispy pork belly appetizer. It was a bacon marshmallow that melts in your mouth on one side and had the perfect salty crunch on the other. Heron got the very first (according to our server) order of the pomegranate glazed lamb rack with sautéed artichoke hearts. It was the best lamb dish he's ever eaten and was only $19. He would gladly drive the 50 minutes each way just to get that dish again. I got the roasted vegetable salad with goat cheese and fennel. It was hearty, satisfying and very fresh. The ONLY gripe we had was the backless bar stools (reminded me of high school science lab,) which weren't super comfortable, but not awful either. Overall, this was a hip place that doesn't take itself too seriously. The staff was very personable and efficient, especially our bartender. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the live music was the icing on the cake. We will absolutely be back in the future. read more

Noticed Audubon was near our hotel, so decided to stop in. Originally planned on having breakfast, but realized we weren't quite hungry for an entire meal. Had a couple drinks and ordered a fish taco and the flat bread. We had zero time to take pictures because it was that good! Being foodies, we like to try different places but had to come back the next day for actual meals and I'm so glad we did. We had the Benedicto and brunch burger. I was really excited to try this place because every time I walked to and from school, there are always a lot of people in here. Sadly, Audubon disappointed me. My friend and I ordered two things: a sandwich with crisp apple in it and a steak with cornmeal and mushrooms. -The steak was decent, but nothing special. I liked the cornmeal and mushroom because I like them. Eh. -The cheddar cheese in the sandwich was hard. WHY was it hard? The apples were decent, but the entire sandwich just oozed grease and I wasn't feeling it. This place was one of the best neighborhood bars in an area filled with unimaginative bar food and Red Sox fans. When the place was closing temporarily to reopen under new management, I was terrified the things I loved on the menu would disappear forever. In between laundry loads, I snuck in for a quick beer and snack. First off, I was so relieved to see the table that could impale and kill you after a few drinks has been removed from the center of the restaurant. Secondly, the cocktails were UNBELIEVABLE. Dare I say, Best of Boston quality. Finally, although the menu did change, the salt and pepper shrimp blew me away and I realized there was a level of sophistication that the old menu never had. I had such a great experience that I returned that same evening and brought friends. They were as thrilled as I was with the changes. I am so happy to have not lost a great restaurant and bar in the 'hood, but even more happy that it seems to be better than before. read more

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat on a weeknight. We arrived around 830 and were able to grab the last free table as the place was pretty packed. After reading through the reviews, we both decided to go with the flounder. It was served on a corn husk with a succotash and brown rice. The fish was pretty tasty, there were a couple of parts of it that were a bit too oily for me, but the spicy sauce and rice helped compliment the flavors. The charred veggies in the succotash provided a nice bite and the brown rice had a nutty, coconut flavor that was very good as well. Overall, this place has some quality dishes at prices that really can't be beat. The service is friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. They also have a decent cocktail/beer/wine menu and is a great place to grab a bite/drink for lunch or dinner. read more

Ok, let me start by saying that the old Audoban was one of my favorite restaurants in the city and I was a 15 year patron, so I really wanted to hate the new one (especially since it is now run by Cambridge hipsters). So, I must admit....it's still great! The menu is very similar, staples like the potstickers and burger are still there and prices are right. I thought the old burger had a competitive edge with the flakey French bun roll, now it's brioche like every other restaurant but the meat is great and roasted potatoes are done right. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Now...why not 5 stars (which I rated the previous one)?? The food is great, staff is wonderful, parking is easy. The decor is amazing.....however it is now ruined by multiple TV's ?!? Is this now a sports bar like EVERY other place in that area? I'm confused, I thought hipsters didn't like sports. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if it's not the Super Bowl, World Cup or World Series, turn off the TV's. Every bar has expensive flat screens, they're not cool anymore. Lovely place for dinner and solid drinks. Not much has been done to the interior since it re-opened. Cocktails for the manly men and the girly girls. My cocktail (The Royal Bermuda, I think) was pink and had a paper umbrella toothpick, much to my delight (teehee). Boyfriend got the corn husk flounder. Perfectly cooked fish on top of (you guessed it) corn husk. Came with this awesome sticky rice and a sweet salsa. They really killed the presentation on this one. Looked way more than the $15 that it was. I got the airline chicken, which was massive and a little dry, but the israeli cous cous risotto more than made up for it. It was BOMB. Drowning in melted fontina, chewy, and perfectly cooked. Came with some fresh radicchio. This place may be haunted by ghosts bro, as it is most specifically dark inside, but in a sexy maybe I'll call you again someday kind of way. Our bartender was most definitely not a ghost, as they were holding plates and everything of delicious smelling and most definitely delicious looking things of ALL SORTS! I ended up getting something that was maybe the color of your energy, woohooo yeah amber, and it tasted like a Saturday night joyride in my possibly owned but most definitely rented Chevrolet Monte Carlo! I ended up getting a double of those, which I think they called an Oktoberfest from Jack's Grotto. I bet Jack has a ton of parties in that grotto for sure bro! My non-ghost bartender was exceptionally wonderful, and never once laid down on the job, and telling you I lay on Pratesi bedding, so you could call me an expert. read more

We came and the power was out on the whole block--they were doing everything they could to keep brunch happening, even running to Dublin Donuts down the street to get us free coffee. The service here is outstanding, by far the most accommodating and all around quality I've experienced in Boston. I ordered a Toad in the Hole and it was a fun take on a classic brunch meal. Ive been here for brunch a couple of times and have loved it every time. The parfait while seemingly a simple dish was so good, it was mixed with honey and yogurt and the granola topping was very crisp. The toad in the hole is a classic and they do a great job with it, would definitely recommend The ambiance here is really nice, it's sort a cozy bar feel. What an amazing experience! Kind of out of the way, near the CITGO sign. Highly recommend going with a large group and ordering a bunch of apps. This allows you to sample a ton of different items without breaking the bank (too much). In a neighborhood with increasingly "sceney" restaurants, the ambiance and food can't be beat. Audubon is a great spot for semi-casual dining, especially in warm weather when the patio is open. Their menu seems to have been updated, but you can't go wrong with the sandwiches at lunch, and the pork hash and eggs at brunch is divine (I'm a sucker for southern comfort food and this dish honestly does BBQ better than Sweet Cheeks). The cocktails could be better; several are too sweet and not dynamic enough for my taste. read more

But the bartender was such a sour puss last Sat., I have to dock a star. We only went for drinks and they definitely have some interesting cocktails, but she was downright unwelcoming. The burgers were okay. We had a party of 10 and they sat us in a very small booth outside and never relocated us when there was available space. The waitress with the ponytail and white smock was so condescending. Whenever i asked her for service at her booth, she would tell me to sit down and tell me she knows what she is doing although she never checked up on us until i approach her. She automatically charged us for 20 percent gratuity even though large parties are usually 18%. Her service definitely ruined the dining experience for us. Then she had the audacity to chase us at the streets for the tea bags and told us they were $2.50 a piece and claimed we stole them when she gave us a whole bucket of teabags for one person. I've always liked Audubon. It's such a "cool" place, in that it doesn't feel like anyone is trying to hard, but everything just works. Most recently, I had a cocktail with green chile vodka - it was bright pink, and delicious. I think the draft beer menu leaves a little something to be desired but they have bottles of the good stuff. Food is solid, and well-priced not only for the area but for the quality. My favorite are the apps though - just get a bunch of those instead of a dinner. 3 cheers because they have an outdoor patio! read more

We got 2 burgers, the flatbread, and Brussels sprouts as well as 2 beers and 4 cocktails. The drinks were excellent, and the food was really good. However, the bussers took half our order and easily checked on us more. Our waiter hardly ever came around and wasn't very helpful. This place was just okay in my book. The decor is basic and clean and the space is very open and airy despite the dark coloring of the interior. Service was okay, although I thought it was a little weird that all the staff wore different style hats. When my waitress initially approached my table I thought to myself who is this hat lady walking toward me. I ordered the corn husk flounder due to Damien S.'s positive review of the dish. The pro of the dish was that my fish was very nicely seasoned, but there were also cons that took away from the dish, specifically, my fish was on the dry side (likely due to being over cooked) and the rice accompaniment was flavorless and soggy. The portion size was also quite small in my opinion as I was still a wee bit hungry upon finishing it. If the flounder filet was an ounce or 2 larger or if more veggies were served with the dish it likely would have been a perfect portion. At $15 for the entree it didn't break the bank, but it wasn't good value either. I also tried a sip of my dining companion's fancified gin and tonic. It just tasted like a regular gin and tonic to me, nothing special. I think Damien's review indicates that the Audubon may be run by the same folks as those behind the Silvertone (downtown Boston) and Trina's (Somerville). I've been to both and the Audubon has a lot of work to do if it wants to match those establishments. read more

Had a lovely time at Audubon. The place was pretty empty on Labor Day so my friend and I were able to take our pick of seating. We shared the Mac and cheese, the ice cream sandwich special dessert, and the steak, all of which were excellent. So I thought the mini-mecca for hipsters is NY but boy am I wrong. Audubon not only had an interesting drink menu, but the counters/tabletops are apparently made out of a material that you can use chalk on. To top this all off, I noticed out the corner of my eye a few tables were playing various games such as Connect Four and cards. No wonder the wait was a bit long, but this restaurant concept is definitely interesting and the food was delightful. My friends ordered salads and the sandwich with prosciutto, I ordered the open face crab-meat sandwich. I thought my sandwich was good, it was a little clunky but nothing a knife and fork could not handle. It was wonderfully seasoned and a good portion size. My critiques would be having more tables and service being just a little quicker. I understand that it was a bit busy when we were there but it did not look like the table turnover rate was too fast. We did have to wait a bit to order and to get our food, but the waitress was attentive and did keep us appraised of the situation. Overall, a lovely experience and I would come back. read more

Simply love this place. Never too crowded and the food is amazing. I always get their burgers and add pepper jack cheese with jalapenos (last time I checked, they don't have the option of adding jalapenos on your burger, but you can just ask them for jalapenos). The service is always great - whether you're sitting at a table or at the bar. This place is my go to spot for a late night dinner and never disappoints. The only thing I seem to forget every time I go there is to ask whether they serve beers in bottles/tap/can. Being a bit picky, I don't like drinking beer from the can - but seem to always order a beer served in a can there. read more

This review is for food only. We started with the white bean dip and potstickers. Both were good, but the potstickers were pan fried (prefer steamed but still tasty). For dinner, we went with the veggie burger and a regular burger with fried onions, bacon jam (based on a yelp review) and a fried egg. Veggie burger was ok, but the char overpowered the taste. The burger was delicious and juicy, probably due to the bacon jam. Definitely worth getting again! The prices are great, service is good and I'd definitely like to make this a neighborhood spot! read more

We came in for brunch on a sunday. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. Parking is always interesting in this area too, its best if you don't have to drive. The service was pretty slow. We got the grilled mango and avacado. Both were tasty, but we waited a bit longer than we expected to wait. For dinner, we got the chili, the pesto chicken flatbread and a burger. Everything was ok, for the amount of time we waited I would have hoped the food would have been better. It wasn't crowded either, so not too sure what was going on. My husband chose this spot during our first trip to Boston. I wasn't impressed by the inside nor the bathrooms. It also smelled funny.
