This is probably my favorite shop in the East Village. What a quaint collection of vintage and used clothing! Most of the clothes are $30 or less. Whaaaat?! I'd expect these kinds of prices at musty thrift stores that require hours of searching through racks and racks of old, worn clothes just to find that needle in a haystack. Not so at AuH2O. All the items are clean and in good condition, and they're carefully picked so you don't have to spend a lot of time digging for gems. Even though the store is really small, the staff give you space and don't watch you like hawks when you're browsing. The owner is really friendly and easy to chat with. I found a gorgeous vintage dress in mint green, and since I came on a Thursday (15% student discount day!), I got it for a steal. I have no idea when or where I'll be able to wear it, so I may just have to come up with my own special occasion to dress up. Just a small note: I believe there's a $15 minimum on credit card purchases, so you might want to keep cash handy. This is something New Yorkers are probably used to, but being from Pittsburgh, I'm used to getting away with not carrying cash. read more

This is my all-time favorite thrift shop, period. The clothes are affordable and super-adorable and the women who work there are all such sweethearts! This store is PERFECT for girls from teens to twenties who are looking for fun, offbeat, inexpensive, artsy clothes for any occasion. I'm always recommending this shop to EVERYONE because I love both the clothes and the story behind it (the woman who started it wanted to make really cool vintage clothes available to college students who couldn't necessarily afford the ridiculously overpriced shops in the city--like the rest of the thrift stores on St. Marks.) I have never ever ever walked out of the store without buying something, and neither have anyone I've taken there. There are always too many great finds to pass up. This is a great place to shop for (just to name a few highlights): --chunky knit sweater/cardigans (I bought a great one for $15 a month ago and haven't taken it off since) --maxi skirts/kilts/schoolgirl skirts--there are tons of floorlength-skirts that aren't your typical flowy bohemian cliche--there are long wool plaids, black velvet, dark florals, gauze, short grey/plaid schoolgirl kilts, etc --DRESSES. the selection is small but really well curated and SO inexpensive. My favorite dress I found here is a black-and-oxblood floral velvet cocktail dress that was only $18 and looks like it cost five times that. --jewlery--the selection is super varied and very well priced--there are beautiful cameos, tons of rings and earrings (real or clip-on), brooches, all different necklaces, and a fun $1 bin to hunt through full of costume jewelry, cheap but cute bracelets, and quirky pins. There are also great jackets, boots, sometimes purses--really anything. It's a tiny store, but it's the perfect size to find what you love right in the first few minutes (of course, I've spent hours in there, but just for fun.) If you're young and in the city, this store is just a few blocks from the NYU stop and is SO worth the trip! read more

Love this cute little thrift store. Emphasis on the "little" but cute stuff and very affordable. They have a $5 and under rack as well as a $10 and under rack which for is perfect for a person such as myself who loves to shop but really shouldn't. they also have very unique jewelry (also very affordable). I was blown away by the lovely demeanor of the ladies working here; they were eager to offer style advice and showed me to merchandise that fit the era and style I was seeking. As for the merchandise itself, it was quite reasonably priced for the East Village location with a $10 and Under rack not full of rejects but instead wearable pieces. Their shoe selection was excellent, and I walked away with an adorable pair of black and white Anne Klein Pumps for TEN DOLLARS. If that doesn't make a girl think well of a shop I don't know what will. So give AuH2O a try, there's high turnover of the merchandise so there's always something new! read more

I passed this store by a few times because at first glance it looked like it would be expensive. I would expect a trendy, well-curated thrift store like this one to charge a lot more than a more traditional one, but I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable everything was! Everything was reasonably priced and this place saves you the trouble of having to dig through piles of stuff to find one thing you like. I normally don't write reviews of clothing stores but this place is so great that I wanted to spread the word! I got a dress that was originally from Urban Outfitters (probably around 80$ originally) in basically perfect condition for 8$. They also had a bunch of cool jewelry and even nice jackets for like 20-30$ each. If you like thrifting but don't feel like sorting through rack after rack of old Talbots sweaters, this place will be perfect for you. I'll definitely be returning to AuH2O! read more

Cute little store but I didn't buy anything because I wasn't greeted upon entering. I walked around for fifteen minutes and the girl working just talked on the phone in Spanish the whole time. She didn't greet anyone that came in so I guess she feels she gets paid to talk on the phone but not actually help anyone. Sad because I walked ten plus blocks to get here because of the reviews. Very small location with OK prices ($5 rack outside, $10 rack inside and then everything between $12-20). Clothing was cute but it's hard to find something you adore when the selection is so small. Cute cute cute! Not a huge selection but pieces that are vintage and unique, not all H&M type stuff. fantastic prices, and they have a dressing room! A tiny one but it's there!! A gem in east village. I am a regular here when it comes to buying gifts for my wife and friends, but my wife is a straight up addict because of the incredible merchandise and deals on them. The location is incredible in the east village heart of shopping and food. The shop is very neat and things are easy to find with clear sale markings and merchandise organized nicely by category (shoes, dresses etc.). There is wide variety of great dresses/tops and other pieces and treasure bags, shoes, and hats. Also the nice homely atmosphere with no sales pressure was additional perk compared to some other stores. The staff here are extremely helpful and find things for your needs and style. I do not like to go to big malls or stores and spent million dollars so this place was great in picking out gifts for family and friends, with the staff helping with a great selection already picked out for me based on my needs. I asked her how she kept prices so low and she said that the items the purchases for her store, she tries to buy for at least $3 or under. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS THRIFT SHOP. The moment you walk in and you see clothes nicely aligned and a beautiful bird cage with lovely necklaces organized and hanging so elegantly; this place is too good. Whenever I'm around St. Marks, I always stop by to see what new pieces are around. No doubt that you'll receive a flood of compliments on items you buy from this store. The staff is very friendly and they have a new location in Williamsburg as well. You should follow them on instagram because they're always updating bits and bobs. On the items they upload from either location, you can comment if you're willing to buy and they'll send you an invoice via email; so convenient!!! Honestly after all of the glowing reviews I wanted to ADORE this place. I spent one whole day thrifting and this place was on my list (I'm not even joking I mapped and scheduled each place judging by how close they were to each other, their proximity to food and when they opened). It was by far my least favorite and sparsely curated collection I had ever seen. Now, that being said, judging by how many people just love this place, I'd definitely give it another swing but only if I am down in the area, which means to odds are good since I love LES. Love this place. I went thrifting before and was grossed out but not here. As soon as I got there I saw the $5 rack outside and found a dress. Going inside it was smaller than I thought but a lot if stuff. I found another dress on the $10 rack. I got two dresses which each could've been an easy $30 each. I was happy. If you don't (like me) there are necklaces, earrings, and bracelets that are pretty just to look at, and are pretty much the same concept of the jewelry at Urban Outfitters except cheaper. I stumbled upon this place after researching the internet for thrift stores in my area. I blew in expecting to blow right out of there in less than an hour.. in time to make it home for a quick run/shower before my date last night. Long story short: I ended up calling my sister to come meet me there. We proceeded to spend 3 hours rummaging through their goodies, no run/no shower, and I was 10 minutes late to my date. They have a great selection and it was all really affordable. Rose was the icing on the cake. She's got great style, was so helpful and even shared her harajuku cookies with us. I was really looking forward to this store after reading the reviews. I feel bad for putting this review up because the store owner Kate is indeed extremely nice. My friend and I went to the store on the day they were having their weekly specials (Thursdays I believe?). The store is quite small, which we had known about and were not disappointed by this. We browsed the entire store TWICE, trying to look for something, but didn't find anything. My friend and I have pretty different tastes, but even then, neither of found anything we liked. The problem isn't so much our tastes, but the fact that most of the things on sale were of sub-par quality. The prices are definitely suitable, so kudos on not over-pricing things. We've both been thrift shopping before the store simply did not have a good selection. It is entirely possible that we went on a day when inventory was low, or perhaps we do have really strange tastes after all. read more

It's a small boutique-size selection (which is awesome-looking through too much stuff can be exhausting) at great prices (got a heavy autumn dress and denim shorts for $28) and there were plenty of items I picked on to try. This is such a cute little East Village vintage/thrift shop! There isn't a wide selection of clothes to choose from here, but that's okay because all of the clothes are statement pieces. Another plus to having such a limited selection of clothing is that the store is always organized. You don't have to sift through pounds of carelessly placed stuff to find a gem. The prices are awesome as well! The owner is even willing to decrease the price of certain items if you want to bargain with her. I can understand how a local would find this spot nice (and why there are such positive reviews) - there must be new items every week, so if you live nearby you can check for gems on your way home from work/school. But if you're not already in the neighborhood, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to get here. There are only about 100 items or less on display (~5 racks with ~20 items each). Which would be fine if they were all niche, unique, and/or vintage items. And while a few of the items were, some looked like (and some literally were) Forever 21 items with similar quality for $10-20, which imo is not worth it. read more

I would definitely consider this more of a boutique or consignment shop than a " thrift" store. Personally when I think "thrift" I see carrying everything from books, to furniture, to clothes, to household goods & you can dig through everything for pennies on the dollar!? This store is small sweet and simple. The merchandise is clearly Perfectly handpicked. & priced accordingly. Everything seems so new & in good condition! So I've been thrifting in the east village for years now, and I wish I knew about this place earlier! Yes, its small, but the clothes are all in great condition and I guarentee you that the prices are unbelievably cheap and extremely affordable - and this is from the perspective of a broke college student. This place is very rare for new york city...I wish I could keep this place a secret but I have to spread the love. I also want to note that the owner is very personable, nice, and helpful. Today was actually the first time I've ever been there, but I already know I will be a lifelong customer. P.S.: My first purchase here was a beautiful vintage necklace and was under 20 bucks. I frequent Forever 21 and I want to point out that this the jewlery does NOT resemble Forever 21's lack of quality. read more

Don't let the completely unfair 1 star reviews deter you, this place is great. I have been several times and every time I've walked out with my new favorite fill-in-the-blank (bag, dress, skirt, brooch...). The store is clean, organized, and easy to navigate, the jewelry selection is fantastic, and the owners are fun to chat with and extremely helpful. I just discovered AuH20 this March and so far have gotten a great printed silk maxi skirt for $12, a Theory midi skirt for $14, a vintage Moschino belt for $14, a great printed dress for $10, a gorgeous silk blouse for $5, a bright leather bag, and too many pieces of jewelry to count. I'm almost afraid to let the cat out of the bag for fear the swarms will descend, but these ladies deserve every bit of success that comes their way. There is something so liberating about knowing that any piece you love is likely also in great shape and super affordable. read more
