They say you only get one chance to make a 1st impression. That applies to this place. We were dressed casually, walked in and the manager/owner (whoever she was), didn't even greet us. The first thing out of her mouth was did we have a reservation, and not in a nice tone either. We looked at each other and my hubby said no. After some review of their list, we were seated by the hostess who looked a bit embarrassed. I asked for a table overlooking the water, but was quickly told no. Okay, fine. The servers were great and attentive. The quality of the food was very good (kudos to the chef). The manager/owner walked around hugging and smoozing with the other patrons, but never came over to our table to ask if everything was satisfactory, etc. We finished our meal, paid the bill, and left. Again, our server was nice and attentive. Would we go back? Nope. Zig Ziglar has always said you should always have your best person on the phone or at the front desk. They're the face of your business and the first person the customer sees or speaks to. They set the tone and impression of a customer visit. She needs some serious customer service training. The dining room is lined with windows, providing all tables with a view. We were fortunate to sit at one facing the bay, which added to our evening, as we spotted a couple of dolphins and saw a beautiful sunset. As in old-fashioned restaurants, our server wore black and white, promptly described the special cocktails, and informed us of the catches of the day and other tasty offerings. Cooked to perfection! Twice baked potato, broccoli casserole and salad. Two of them had the filet and one had the ribeye! All very complimentary of the flavor and how it was cooked! We had a 2 hour dining experience that was comfortable, delicious and fun! Again, if you're looking for fancy smancy, go somewhere else and get sub par food. Was in town to see my son who is stationed nearby. He wanted steak and I wanted seafood. I had picked another place but it was under renovation, so we decided on Anthony's. What a fortunate chance. First it sits on the river under huge live oaks. It was near dusk and it was truly lovely just walking in. It was crowded for a Saturday and I assume they took reservations but we got lucky and they had an open table. While service was a little slow, I can tell you the food was delicious. My son had his steak that was cooked perfectly, the salmon salad my wife ordered with their own citrus dressing was tasty, my daughter in law had the stuffed fish with crab she truly enjoyed, and I had the seafood bake,which I had a taste for, was not disappointing. I read several reviews on Anthony's before deciding to visit for an early supper. I'm glad I ignored some of the sub-par poorly written reviews, because we had a great experience! I don't care that all the ceiling fans and tiles don't match - doesn't have any affect on the food coming out of the kitchen. I started with the seafood gumbo/soup...tasted like I was in NOLA! Then I had the grilled grouper with lump crab meat. My wife has the chicken Anthony with angel hair pasta. We were both pleased with our meals. We went to Anthony's expecting a great steak and we were very disappointed. They had a NY Strip Steak on special that was such a poor cut of meat! The amount of unchewable fat was excessive! My husband and I both ordered it and there had to be a full cup of this inedible fat left on our plates! When the server asked how everything was I pointed to the fat on the plates and said it was very fatty. She replied that the NY Strip Steak had more fat than some of the other cuts. I told her I've had them before and this was excessive. This fat was hard and you couldn't chew it!! We asked for our check and then she over charged us. The sign in front of the restaurant had the specials listed for $39.95 but she charged us $46.95. When I mentioned it she changed it. On the way out my husband told the manager how bad the steak was and she said "you should have told us" he said we told our server and she didn't seemed very concerned. We were very disappointed. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 star was because it had a very quaint ambience. The sunset view was very nice. The food and service were definitely lacking. read more

Pasta dish was just ok. Don't try to order cocktails that are not on the menu- even the classics. Stick with what is on the cocktail menu and you will not be disappointed. Either before your meal, after your meal, or between courses, make sure you venture out On The deck, porch, pier or whatever is accessible. Our waitress was great. The dining room is right on the water, so make your reservation close to sunset if possible. The food was wonderful. I've been several times and usually enjoy the food. However, this last time I took family from out of town and it was a bad experience. While my food was good, my father's fish was bad. It stunk and was inedible. The waitress and I guess owner were rather rude about it. The waitress also recommended I not order the seafood casserole, which was odd. I had ordered it before and enjoyed it so I ordered it again despite her cautioning. I still enjoyed it the second time! Our appetizer plates were also a bit sloppy with stray food items on them. Also, they had two fish specials and we asked if we could switch the fish and preparation, which is usually simple enough. Very 1970s- and I think the menu is likely the same. People used to love that heavily sauced stuff- now- not too much. The quality of the seafood seems pretty high, but they cover everything with thick sauces and heavy seasonings. I could not eat most of my meal it was so heavily salted and sauced- and the sauce was not all that great. These guys need to update- serve that fresh fish in a light butter and wine sauce over a few tasty veggies and a starch. Big food is out in fine dining. The stars here were for the extremely kind and caring staff who clearly connect to their customers. They took very good care of us and seem to have relationships with regulars who call them by name. Pretty location too, though the space really needs an update. We only had a couple of nights in the area and chose this place to enjoy fresh seafood. Seriously, a menu update and freshening the dining room would pack this place every night. In its heyday it must have been amazing. Don't cover up good food with goopy sauce! read more
