You know I love a good hidden gem…read more Old Germantown is just that. We were in the general area-ish doing some shopping and wanted to get some pizza for takeout some place closeby to enjoy at home while watching the Olympics (because it's in Italy--so pizza seemed like just the thing). A search on Yelp brought up this place as somewhat closeby. It was after dark when we went in search of it. We drove down a rural road past what appeared to be a driveway that led to a farm. This can't be it. We tried again. Navigation brought us to the same driveway. My husband was ready to give up. I decided to call the business. A kindly gentleman answered and said--yep! It will look like you're driving to a farm but we're here! As we got closer to the end of the drive we saw a bustling parking area. While it might be hard to find--the people have found it. And, so did we. We entered to find beer hall vibes with tons of communal seating. We asked if we could order to go which they were more than willing to accommodate. We found a couple bar stools at their bar, ordered our salads and pizza, and then enjoyed a couple of stout beers while we waited. The beers, salad, and the pizza straight from their wood fired pizza oven were all fantastic. We got one of their specialty pizzas which was a white pie that comes with ricotta (as well as mozz) mushrooms, and basil on a crust that has just the right amount of chewiness and char. Lovely! The folks working here were above-and-beyond friendly. And, one told us that they have a large outdoor patio during pleasant months. We will definitely be back during the pleasant months. And, let's be real--during the less than pleasant months as well. Get to it!

Upon driving in there is a building for the restaurant along with nice outdoor seating, and area for kids to play! We went in mid May on a sunny but cool evening. The kids loved having the sand area and toys to play with while waiting for dinner to arrive. They have a good menu, but there seemed to be a decent amount of items unavailable especially the sausages my friends wanted to try. We ended up with the spring pizza, sassy pig, a plain cheese, and then a three combo of sausages. I thought the pizza was all good, not the best I've ever had but solid. The spring pizza was my favorite. The sassy pig was very unique but good! Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the sausages but others in my group liked them. We upgraded that to include fries and there was only a very small amount. We will definitely be back, seems like a great spot for groups!

Someone behind the window said I had to check in at the bar, which was packed. I stood behind some people for a couple minutes before someone came from behind the bar and asked if I was there for carry out. They walked over and picked up my order and handed it to me. All this to say I didn't like the pick up process. It wasn't easy or welcoming. Now to the food, we ordered burgers and fries. The regular fries were undercooked and had little seasoning. The sweet potato fries were really good. The burgers however are worth going back there! The hamburger meat was seasoned well and all of the fixings were perfect.

The tap beer list is extensive and I appreciate the variety of seltzers (plus they'll let you sample within reason). My go-to is the California chicken bowl, or the turkey burger with cranberry aioli, not as unhealthy as most bar food but definitely delicious. I don't like plain potato chips, but theirs are spiralized and very good! It's a good place to watch a game or just grab an easy dinner, meet up with some friends- solid place.

Came here for dinner and unfortunately left pretty underwhelmed overall…read more The restaurant itself was clean, and service initially started off fine. When we first arrived, the restaurant was not busy. Only a couple other tables occupied, so expectations were fairly high for a smooth experience. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The food took quite a while to come out despite how slow it was. When it finally did, it was first delivered to the wrong table before eventually making its way to us. The food runner then randomly grabbed a ranch from our table and brought it to another table. He seemed potentially new, but overall the service felt very disorganized and clueless, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered the cheese curds to start, and they were disappointing. The breading was mushy and extremely greasy, and the cheese itself tasted low quality rather than the fresh curds you'd expect at a Wisconsin pub. We also ordered several wing flavors since they were on special: garlic parm, buffalo, bourbon BBQ, and lemon pepper. One issue right away was the lack of flavor variety overall on the menu. The wings themselves were inconsistent. Sizes varied dramatically, which clearly affected the cook quality. Some were fried so hard they were like chewing leather, while others had soggy, undercooked skin. Flavor wise the buffalo were almost completely flavorless. The lemon pepper was extremely mild. The garlic parm was probably the best of the group, though still just average. The bourbon BBQ was rough. The sauce tasted like an overly sweet, overly salty cheap jarred glaze rather than an actual house-made BBQ sauce. My wife ordered the Mary Mac burger without a bun and was told extra lettuce leaves could be substituted to make it a lettuce wrap. Instead, it came out with just shredded lettuce. The burger itself was overcooked and lacking flavor. The fries were decent enough, but nothing memorable. Overall, this felt like a place with potential that just missed the mark on both execution and consistency during our visit.

Signage outside indicated that they have fish fry on Wednesday night so that was a plus for me. He had a water street melt with chips and fried cheese sticks. He asked for his burger to be cooked medium. The menu indicated his burger had onion spread on it. His burger was not cooked medium but well done. The onion spread was a "sauce overload" and not a pleasant addition to the melt. The cheese sticks were wrapped in a won ton wrap and deep fried. They were served with a marinara. The cheese sticks could have used some type of seasoning to give them flavor. Very bland. I had the fish fry special of fried perch. Mild fishy flavor and definitely frozen. Thin crumb breading that had some type of seasoning. I choose fries, coleslaw, and rye toast. The fries and toast were the best parts. I wanted tartar sauce for my fish but it was so sweet that it wasn't good with the fish. Service was fine. She needed to leave before us and asked if we wanted to close our ticket. We didn't plan on staying as we're traveling so we closed it out. Location was easy to find. Bar area was clean.

This being a restaurant- I weight the food heaving in the rating as that is why you go to a restaurant. Where do I begin?! I ordered the Lord something or other - where you get brisket, chicken, and ribs. The brisket was absolutely awful. Gray, sliced thin, flavorless, very tough. Severely overcooked with zero fat content, dry as a bone. More like rawhide. Drenched in sauce - and if you have to ad sauce to try to make brisket edible - it's no good. Just bad. The ribs- oddly - had a bark like outer covering but I can't speak to flavor because they were drenched in sauce. I sincerely cannot understand how anyone could think this is barbecue. The chicken- over cooked, tough, and again, drenched in sauce. Asparagus- overcooked and slimy - even though it was supposed to be grilled. It wasn't. For the price of the meal, the quality was extremely low. One of my worst meals this year. If I was a chef - I'd be embarrassed this left my kitchen. Lastly, ordered a prickly pear cocktail. Tasted like watermelon. I've had prickly pear juice and drinks before- this had no discernible flavor that resembled prickly pear. All in all- I cannot recommend this restaurant at all. Please- go somewhere else. Anywhere. This food was just flat out bad and very poor quality.

Apparently I haven't been to Allgauer's in forever because it's February 2024 and they stopped doing the all you can eat fish fry around April 2023. What a shame cause it was pretty good and there are so few all you can eat places left. The hostess joked with me that the restaurant was empty when I got there because of that change, but there was a lot of honesty in what she was saying because I was the only one there at 5:20pm when it used to be packed right after opening. They did have something my picky kid would eat, so the family ended up meeting me for dinner. I ordered the half pound of beer battered lake perch with two pieces of fried cod for an extra $3 charge each, my wife got and older kid got cheeseburgers, and the picky kid got a kid's grilled cheese. My youngest liked his grilled cheese because we specifically asked for American cheese on it. The hostess believed it came with cheddar and we knew he wouldn't eat that. The older kid and my wife were impressed by the cheeseburgers. They weren't anything fancy, but they had really good flavor and were cooked medium-well like they wanted. I didn't love the cod, but the perch was fantastic. The pieces were small so I was given nine instead of the five I was told I would normally get for a half pound. That's okay cause I'd rather have more small pieces than fewer large pieces if the small ones taste like lake perch should and aren't bland. We all got crinkled fries, which isn't my favorite, but they weren't bad as far as crinkle fries go. By the time we left almost an hour later close to a dozen other people had come in. Certainly not the hopping place it was when they had the all you can eat fish fry, but not empty either. Even without the AYCE, we'll probably come back.

How many times is this place gonna change and who do they think they are serving? It's a hotel bar in Wisconsin north Milwaukee. Noone needs tuna nachos here. Everything i saw come out looked like it was precooked rubber. Embarrassing! $31 for a piece of frozen walleye fish??? Cmon man! I saw a lady order chicken parm and she ate 6 bites and turned it away w no to go box. It looked awful!!!! I mentioned something to the bar tender. So she took it upon herself to talk to the chef. I witnessed her interaction w the chef. He was not happy i was enquiring about their wonton cheese stix or their caprese salad or for some normal beef nachos. The chef pointed and started yelling as he walked away referring to their new bs menu that he apparently worked so hard on. This chef needs to listen to the clientele. He doesn't own the place of course but his actions were in front of many customers as i saw 4 different people come inside and check the menu and leave. And i was there for an hour for a couple drinks. How many other people do the same? They are way too expensive for what they are selling. This place better clean up their act as i come here often enough. Look - this place doesn't have so much but is well rounded. I would still recommend the burger (believe it or not) med rare. Guessing the Wings are still good - and still pricey for 7 - ask for them crispy. And wonton cheese stix were a bonus (which they dont have any longer). They have frozen cheese squares. Cant even get cheese curds!? Wish they bring back the caprese salad - please! And they used to have some pretzels w Wisconsin beer cheese - cant pull that off any longer either. Breakfast however has not changed and between dry toast and not so great morning service id choose elsewhere. They need to get the act together with the team at hilton garden. Noone has time to sit and order breakfast then wait around for it to come to your table. Do they? I dont. Im sad people in the back just dont care here. And maybe turn the lights down for dinner. It was like an operating room inside the bar. Ive had quite a few discussions with management here about the food. I could keep going about this chef. He needs to be removed. Or lets have a face to face. Because he was rude enough to the bar tender who was just giving in-site. He needs to be spoken to and held accountable....listen to your people. Your food is not what it should be. Remember the customer is always right. Especially in this case. Sad to say.

This shop is such a gem, offering classic bakery staples, delicious macarons, and fun, bakery-themed items. I especially love their "kindness coupons"--such a thoughtful gesture for anyone who could use a little treat. I attended one of their macaron classes, and while I don't know what their kitchen looked like before, it had been fully transformed into a student-friendly workspace with stations set up for each group. After signing in, you're directed to your station and handed an apron. The spots are semi-assigned--if you booked with a friend or a small group, Kasey does a great job placing you together. Everything you need is laid out and ready to go. Kasey walks you through the whole process, checking in along the way and sharing helpful tips she's picked up throughout her macaron-making journey. You and your partner split the batter, but you each get to do your own mixing, choose your colors, and pipe your own shells, which makes it a really hands-on experience. While the macarons are baking, you're treated to sweet bites like brownies or crispy rice treats. Once the macarons have cooled, you fill, package, and--of course--sneak a few tastes along the way. The whole class is so fun, approachable, and well-paced. Afterward, you even get the chance to take home some bakery goodies at a discount! I absolutely love their bakery items, and the class was such a blast. Can't wait to go back!

Date of visit: January 26, 2024…read more Our January version of "Coffee & Kringle" brought us to Batter and Mac in the Falls. A friend had heard that they had gotten some flack from the local Republicans for being pro-LGBT and that was enough for us to go pay them a visit. Staff were wonderful and friendly, even suggesting that I get the Wicked-themed matcha latte with strawberry cold foam, something that I did not think I would necessarily like, but she pushed it hard and you know what? She was right! It was a delicious drink that I may or may not have licked the lid to ensure I got all of the cold foam... My ham and cheese croissant was quite good, though I think it would have been better had it been warmed up. And then I went back for a Scotcheroo and that was fantastic. I had intended to just have a bite that morning and finish it later but there was no way I could do that, I ended up eating the entire thing while we were visiting. Outside of the room temp croissant, the reason for four stars instead of five here is because the bakery gets VERY cold everytime the door opens, I probably should have kept my coat on the whole time we were there. I think one of those ceiling-mounted air units would help mitigate this and get me to stay a bit longer (and order more food!) in the colder months.
