Upon arrival, patients must wait in their car and send a text notification to a designated phone number. As soon as the office is ready for you, staff will come to your car and escort you in. You must wear a mask. I usually arrive a few hours before my appointment time, so I have no complaints about wait times. I first became a patient of Dr. Downie 16 years ago when I was living in NJ and her office was at another location in Montclair. I needed a doctor who specializes in the treatment of African skin, which easily scars and hyperpigments. A few customers in my hair braider's shop recommended her. Dr. Downie successfully treated my melasma because I have not since had a recurrence. Dr. Downie is both my medical and cosmetic dermatologist. I drive over and hour and a half from Eastern Long Island to see her. She has performed on me many cosmetic procedures, which beautify my skin. I use the skin and hair products she recommends. My scars have reduced significantly, and my hair is now growing like wildfire. I have never received more compliments from strangers about my image. All staff are friendly and professional. I will continue patronizing Image Dermatology because of the stellar treatment that I get here. read more

Absolutely never again!!!!!!!! My dermatologist Meghan is amazing however their office staff is absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!! Cold and harassing. They didn't advise my request was not covered by insurance. Fine, thank you Meghan for letting me know. Then dismissed me during check out, never collected payment. Called me 4x in evening when I have children to tend to. Before I could call back they called me 2 more times before 9am! I called to discuss with the office manager and said I would get back to her. 14 calls and 8 messages during the WORK DAY!!!!!!!! Disgraceful! #update to respond. The only person that informed me of the charge for skin tags was the nurse once I already got into the room. I signed the consent after the procedure was completed as the doctor had to informed me of price!!! The office staffed shouldn't have been so dismissive at check out. I was running late for my appointment due to traffic and I called the office to advise them of what's going on. The staff was so understanding and kind to allow me to keep my appointment once I arrived. I suffer from adult acne, eczema & ingrown hairs which have caused scarring on my face that I've had for several years. Thanks to Dr. Downie, my skin hasn't been this clear since I was a child. I have never meet with Dr. Downie but have been seeing Dr. Megan for a while now. She had my face looking amazing and I foolishly let go of the regiment. I then went back and she fixed me right back up. I love all the products that they recommend and they do give alternatives if something doesn't quite work for you for whichever reason. I have never had an excessive wait time. But I can truly understand sometimes things happen. I even recommended a friend there and she loves it too. I have given this practice a number of chances because it's close to where I live, but despite the convenience, I need to find another. I have now waited over an hour for appointments twice, with no apology from the staff. The first time I waited and patiently explained what had happened. The second time I left and explained that I had another appointment. There was no concern either time. I also have some concerns about professionalism and how this practice is run. At a previous visit, the front desk staff was loudly berated and yelled at for a perceived mistake, in full earshot of the patients in the waiting room. It was uncomfortable, for them and for us. The focus is definitely on money-makers like cosmetic procedures as opposed to skin health, and professionalism is not always top of mind. The first time I came in for a skin check for skin cancer, and expressed that it was a concern because I had a family history of the disease, I removed my gown, and the first thing the practitioner said was, I bet you're regretting that choice of underwear today. The one bright spot in this practice is Megan, who I believe truly cares, but unfortunately it's not enough to offset the rest. I will look elsewhere. ***** Updating this review as the owner of the business has said below that what I wrote is not true -- "these events never happened." Um? I have never seen a business owner do this. Kinda shocked. So it's true that the business only allows visitors in at the time of their appt during COVID, and that is commendable. But the incident I described actually happened pre-COVID, and the front desk staff were reprimanded loudly and inappropriately. I was sitting in the open Victorian lobby of the building which is directly adjacent to the reception desk when it happened. And yes, a practitioner did comment on my underwear after I shared how a close relative had died of melanoma, so I was particularly concerned about getting a skin check. You simply can't make that stuff up. And it's quite memorable in its utter lack of professionalism. That the owner would state "these things simply did not happen" with no factual basis (?!?) is troubling. Unfortunately my experience is eerily similar to that of a number of reviewers below who have also mentioned long wait times, a disrespectful tone in the office, and odd comments that the owner has made about their teen daughter's weight. I wouldn't say I'm alone in my observations. But I know I'd never darken the door of a practice that calls their patients liars if they say something they don't like. That's just creepy. read more

I've only been once but I did not return because of the service. I was not seen by Dr. Downie, but was consulted by another staffed dermatologist. I felt as if the service was incredibly rushed and was very uncomfortable with the way this dermatologist spoke downto a physicians aid/ other staff member in front of me. I was prescribed an expensive supplement plus a topical aid. The front desk workers were very dismissive and gave me false information about the supplement-which I bought from the office. If I had known the cost of the supplement I would have discussed alternatives with the dermatologist because it was not financially sustainable for me. I was pretty put off for months, it's kind of frustrating to go into an office with a personal dermatological need only to feel uncomfortable about the care-or lack thereof, that was received. read more

Wow, what a turn-off. Can't even get a first appointment. Waited on automated phone answering system for 20 minutes... it is 8:57 am and her office supposedly opened 20 minutes ago. Check her website - she has an article that states that patients should be THANKFUL to their doctors when their doctors run late. "Next time you are waiting in an exam room for your doctor why don't you thank your doctor for his/her dedication to his/her patients when she/he arrives..." I get that there are unanticipated issues that comes up in patient care, but working in a hospital myself, my response would be: ARRANGE YOUR PATIENT SCHEDULE SO YOU ARE NOT OVERBOOKING AND PROVIDING ENOUGH TIME TO ALL YOUR PATIENTS. While on the automated voice system, I never got to speak with a person live, but did get a list of Dr. Downie's accoloades of how she was on The Today Show, Dr. Oz (LOL), Montel Williams (double LOL), Tyra Banks (I can't... stop it...)... I started counting. By the time I hung up the phone in disgust the robotic female voice was still chanting through a litany of Dr. Downie's celebrity achievements. I went to Dr. Downie once. If this review were only about her, I'd be giving her 5 stars. Great personality and she took her time with me. I never at any point felt rushed with her despite the number of people in the waiting room. I didn't actually see her until one full hour after my appointment time, which she apologized for, which in turn impressed me. But the reason I went to her only once and won't be going back is because she won't bill my insurance company for laser treatment because, according to one her secretaries, she has an agreement with my insurance company that such treatments are cosmetic and can't be considered medically necessary. Scar tissue can be painful, and if laser is the best and recommended way to remove it, how can the procedure not be deemed medically necessary? I'm sure this dermatologist isn't the only one who has such agreements with my insurance company and others, but when I specifically asked twice for a copy of my bill so I could try to bill the insurance company myself, they went as far as to hand-write "not medically necessary." read more

When I met Doctor Downie, her bed side manners was very pleasant not only her bedside manners, her personality was amazing to me, she made me feel like we were family. I went to image dermatology about 2 months ago and I have to say I was extremely unsatisfied with the service I received. I was not able to even have a conversation or explain my issues to Dr. Downie. She repeatedly cut me off as I was speaking to tell her assistant information. I couldn't even get a single thought out. Unfortunately she was not able to answer any of my questions because she was in such a rush. She wrote everything down on a blue paper and I asked her could she please explain to me what she wrote because 1. It was illegible and 2. She said it so quickly that I couldn't even remember all of the steps or what each product was supposed to be used for. She did not explain slowly for me, instead she told em fo ask the ladies downstairs. (She prescribed me over 6 products.) She also insulted me after I told her that I'd previously been to an esthetician. She stated that I should have known better than that since I was in nursing school. Then she started going on about how she had been to school for multiple years and she is more than qualified. Which I felt was out of order for her to say to a customer that came to her for help. I felt that was extremely rude to say to anyone. On the other hand though, I will say that the medications I've been taking (aczone and tretinoin 0.05) seem to finally be working. Which brings me to another issue with her. She never warned me that the tretinoin cream would cause me to break out terribly for months before it started to get better. She also did not tell me that I needed to stay out of the sun while on this medication after I told her I was going on vacation in a sunny place. She also did not tell me that there was a possibility that my skin would peel terribly and burn for the first few weeks/months. The only reason why I know these things is because I did extensive research on the products she prescribed me. I can say that they are seeming to start to work after 2 months but it is very unpredictable at this point. I am still hopeful though and I will finish the treatment. But I am unsure if I will be returning to this office. I may continue my treatment with a new dermatologist. read more

Dr. Downie is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! She saved me ONE WEEK before my WEDDING! I received an IPL photofacial (intense pulsed light) from a small med spa and the Doctor using the laser BURNED my FACE!!! I had a huge burn mark under my left eye, (which Dr. Downie diagnosed as a 1st to 2nd degree burn), which had began scabbing over. I was so nervous since my Wedding was only 2 weeks away at this point and I found Dr. Downie online. I called her office and they mentioned she was booked until the end of May, (meanwhile my Wedding is May 20th). I explained to the staff my situation, what had happened and that my wedding was only two weeks away and they put me on hold, came back and said we will fit you in, come this Friday! So two weeks before my wedding I met with Dr. Downie, she immediately knew what to do and had me get a sensitive skin face wash, a face lotion, a moisturizer with SPF, a liquid bandaid treatment, and a burn treatment. She gave me tons of advice and information about my skin and was so sweet. She put me at ease, at a time when I was already stressed out. One week later I went back for a check up with Dr. Downie because she wanted to ensure her plan had worked and my scab was completely GONE, not only was the scab gone, but there was hardly even a spot that anyone would ever be able to tell I was burned by a laser. I can't thank Dr. Downie enough, I am officially a patient for life! read more

Best dermatology practice! I moved from NYC and was looking for a local dermatologist that I could build a relationship with. Someone that I trusted with all of my dermatological needs, including cosmetic concerns as they arose with age. I'm thrilled with the care I've gotten here. I love Dr Downie--she is smart, has a wonderful bedside manner, and has a great eye for cosmetic rejuvenation. Megan Kera is amazing as well, and I really appreciate the relationship they have with one another--a second opinion across the hall when you need it! Megan successfully treated my children for a frustrating condition that others failed to treat (in sensitive areas), and they just adored her. I wanted to like Dr. Downie-- her portrayal of herself as very, very famous, important and effective in the field was quite impressive. She is personable, and seems to care about patients. Her office is crammed with her accolades, including a picture of her and Oprah on the mantle. But the way her office is run is ATROCIOUS. Each time I have gone to Dr. Downie's office, I have waited at least an hour. The nurses there seem annoyed all of the time (probably due to being so busy). Dr. Downie seems to understand how far behind she is, but has slyly diverted any of my frustration with complaining to me about how busy she is (even taking a call during my appointment related to her guest appearance on the Kathy and Hoda Show) , or obviously complimenting me to butter me up. Now that I have seen this pattern, I can officially say that Dr. Downie is extremely narcissistic woman, whose self aggrandizing does not leave room for a business that respects patients' needs. She may know what she is doing as a doctor, but I leave each time feeling taken advantage of. I will not return to Dr. Downie. read more

I have been going to Image Dermatology since 2012 and do not trust anyone else besides Dr. Downie with my skin! Leading up to going to see Dr. Downie in 2012, my acne was so bad it was affecting my self-esteem and I was embarrassed about the state of my skin. I went to see two other dermatologists before her and the problem was not getting better. When I went to see Dr. Downie, she took my acne very seriously and came up with a plan to remediate it ASAP. She gave me medications and put me on a series of chemical peels. I could not believe how fast my skin cleared up after having the peels. I went to see her in the summer and by the fall my skin was magnitudes better. People would start to complement me on my skin and when I showed them the before pictures they usually could not believe I had acne previously. I still get acne breakouts occasionally, but when I do I always know Dr. Downie will take care of me. She has consistently taken my skin concerns very seriously over the years and I fully trust her. The chemical peels really have made so much difference in my skin. I get the peel once or twice a year now when I can afford it and love the results. Some of the other reviews says she tries to sell products, but I do not believe she would recommend a product/procedure if she didn't think it would help you. Once you try the products you will realize they work and are worth the money. I wish I could say they don't work and save yourself the money, but from my experience I spend more money trying cheaper options that end up don't working. Also, if you are time sensitive, I would recommend trying to get an appointment first thing in the morning. read more

My main reason for choosing Dr Downie was because I really wanted someone who specialises in skin of color. Sadly, this practice seems very profit driven and in it to make a quick buck. I'd be more than willing to pay for services that I needed, but I felt like I was being taken advantage of. While Dr Downie might be great at what she does, she has absolutely zero bedside manner. She's constantly talking about how busy she is, and how she has a ton of media appearances and almost as if she's doing you a big favour by seeing you. Her arrogance is off putting and there are way too many great derms in the city for me to deal with this. If I'm paying to see a dermatologist (her pricing is higher than average), I'd rather find one that doesn't make me feel like I'm burdening them. Dr Downie, I really hope you look into this since most of the reviews here seem to state the same thing. Since you're always complaining about being too busy, it's probably best you look into managing your time better. read more

Dr Downie initially treated me for skin cancer and the visit was so successful, I wanted to explore other options for keeping my skin and appearance healthy and youthful. She provided counsel about different options for me and I was thrilled and a little amazed at the results. She also put me on a regimen of vitamins and skin care routines (including fabulous products!) that I absolutely love. I would agree with this companies over all rating of 3 stars. From my dealings with them, I feel they are not in just the run of the mill body check business. They are a beauty business. When you go, they take your face photo and put is on a screen... HUGE. You look hideous with all kinds of marks and blemishes and they sell you expensive sunscreen to combat what you have just seen in front of you. I just wanted a body check that my insurance covers and instead I left $150 lighter because I was embarrassed. So I'm sure this place is great for whatever high end stuff they are into but....if you just want a quick body check...this isn't the place. read more

I've been going to Dr. Downie for about a year now (once a month appointments) but unfortunately am giving up. My original purpose for visiting was to address blackheads and for hair removal. Even though I had an appointment time, I waited at least an hour, if not longer, before being seen at each visit. During my first visit, my issues concerning the blackheads were basically dismissed and I was told to buy some of the products sold in the office. On each subsequent visit, I was asked to purchase more products - usually sunblock. How does sunblock treat blackheads? It doesn't. This made me feel like the office was more concerned about pushing their products than caring about the patients concerns. I have had about 10 laser treatments with minimal results. For what the office charges, unfortunately it's not worth the price tag. I do understand that other factors can affect how effective the procedure is, but I have discussed my concerns with Dr. Downie and was told to continue going and that the treatments will achieve my desired results. I have now gotten a second opinion from elsewhere and have realized that the laser strength should have been increased earlier on since the results were minimal and that my desired results could have been achieved within less treatments had this occurred. I need to be able to trust that my doctor has my best interests at heart and isn't simply taking advantage of my wallet. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. read more

When I came in the room she pinched my stomach and said you have some fat on your stomach but your slim (at this point I'm a slim pear shaped I work out a lot now)She sold us 200 dollars worth of crappy skin products. Positive: dr. Downie is an extremely beautiful woman. The office is cute and location is great (I can almost see it from my window). Nothing more. Negative: everything else: stuff, ease of appointment, wait time, prices, bedside manner,etc. I tried to call the office as it seemed perfect to turn around the corner to get to the doctor. I removed a wart with laser while being abroad and it seemed to grow back. Couldn't get anyone to schedule the appointment in 3 different attempts. Stopped by in person to do that. The receptionist told me: you should call us(!!!). I offered to dial from my cell right now and schedule it not moving from the counter. She made a face and scheduled one supposedly with dr. Downie (3 weeks from that day!) I showed up for appointment on time and spent good 45 minutes reading magazines in a full waiting room. When I was led upstairs by a grumpy nurse (she called me by name, just turned away and started walking, entered the exam room, slammed my chart on the table and left- not a word, not a smile). In about 10 minutes another doctor (PA?) walked in, barely looked at the problem I came with and said- it's a scar. To my question how to get rid of it she couldn't say anything smarter then "it's a scar" again. Meanwhile she had been chewing a gum loudly and vigorously that I could see she doesn't have wisdom teeth (and I am not even a dentist). I asked if they do laser hair removal as shlepping to my old place in brooklyn became tiring. She got more enthusiastic and assured that dr. Downie could do one right now. She ran out of the door and it seemed they hi-fived with dr. Downie that they have a laser patient. So, dr. Downie can't come and see me for dermatological problem possibly covered by insurance but she squeezes into her busy schedule $300 laser removal of facial hair, huh? So, they took me to laser machine room, the celebrity doctor showed up, told me that next time she will go over all the products I use, did a laser and made sure they scheduled me again in 4 weeks. The bill was outrageous but I decided to give it a second chance. Second appointment : After 45 minutes wait downstairs and another 40 in the laser room I walked out in the hallway and asked the grumpy nurse that I am about to leave. Dr. Downie showed up 5 minutes later and tried to butter me up saying that she understands self employed people don't have much time. Who has spare 1.5 hour in the middle of the day to Waist? She was right there. My sitter was pissed as she was late for her class. This time laser was done missing some areas and I had patches of hair sticking out. So, I gave up. Bottom line: if you need a dermatologist but not an expensive facial specialist with medical degree- skip the practice. read more

So I made an appt here because it was close to home. I read mixed reviews and decided to check it out myself. NEVER AGAIN. First of all dr Downie is more like a celeb, not a dermatologist. To book w her is nearly impossible. The 2 times I went I had to see her PA as she is too busy. The staff is OK. Nothing special. This office focuses more on getting you to do things that aren't necessary like peels, etc. not so much focused on actual skincare. Terrible Botox experience there in 2013. My face swelled up like a balloon. Downey had no idea what happened. With 4 days of drugs and hiding out at home the swelling went away. The Botox did not even work! I called today to get a refill and the rude girl at the desk scolded me because I had not been there in a year!!! read more

Dr. Downie is not only an amazing doctor who truly cares about her patients, she's a professional, super knowledgeable doctor who always has a big smile on her face making her patients feel welcome and good about themselves and being there. I've been going to her for many years and I absolutely LOVE her. I love her not only as a doctor but also a friend. While waiting for her in a room, I get excited hearing her voice out in the hall knowing I'll be greeted with a hug and that contagious smile. I often joke with her that I want to adopt her.
