You're paying high prices for the view and location French fries were just okay Ceviche was flavorless Burger was mediocre Lobster roll was small. Service was okay from everyone else besides our waitress was Marissa and she did an awesome job. Won't be coming back because the $$$$ prices compared to the low quality food just isn't going to do it for me. Beautiful spot to just go sit and have drinks with some friends, but go spend your money somewhere that will blow your mind with taste. Spending a lot of money to be basically on top of the people next to you, and have an okay food experience. Unfortunately I wasn't blown away because it was just OKAY.

Oh my goodness, this place is absolutely MAGICAL. We were graciously invited here by some friends who were staying at Castle Hill Inn, and it was truly a one of a kind dining experience. The long, winding driveway lead us to Castle Hill Inn, tucked away on its own special piece of the coast. The sprawling lawn overlooking the water was perfectly manicured and filled with folks enjoying cocktails on lawn chairs and taking in the views. We were promptly sat in the stunning dining room that was filled with windows so we could continue to enjoy the scenic views while enjoying dinner. Dinner service is a six course menu which highlights local produce, seafood, and artisanal producers in the area, which was really wonderful to see. My courses went as follows: -Local vegetables -Maine polenta -Lobster -Beef -Selected cheeses -Chocolate ice cream I could go on and on about each course, but the short version is that every single one was exceptional! Our server did a fantastic job guiding us through each item on the menu and the sourcing behind each ingredient. It was such a lovely (and filling!) evening. Although I feel like this was a once in a lifetime dining opportunity, I would love to come back again one day.

I totally forgot what this was.

Still my favorite restaurant of all time. I have been coming here for the past 8 years and all in all everything is impeccable. Carl and Nick have been my main servers and they are awesome. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and know why it's called the hospitality industry. They currently have a 6 course tasting menu and wine pairing to boot. Food is always great. Wine pairings are a must. It's going to be a memorable night. Prices have certainly gone up. As most things have. But I will continue to go to Castle Hill as I still see value in what I get.

Lobster roll was all claw & rather bland.

For the prices here ... meh. It's more one of those places for well-to-do locals to be seen and those with bank accounts to match their egos to work the room. There are several dining areas. Off season, when we stayed, the dining area open was an oval room with windows that had water views. The windows were foggy and needed a cleaning but you could still see the blue water. The real reason foe my mediocre/average rating was the food. I am not rating this based on value, as that is subjective, although I will admit that the prices here are hefty in a pre-pandemic midtown Manhattan sort of way. But rather ... the food was just a bit bland and blah. We had the roast pork, lobster roll and clam chowder. The standout dish was the pork. It was prepared 'wedding food' style ... and thankfully they mentioned it comes a bit pink, and we asked it to be cooked through. The lobster roll didn't seem entirely fresh tasting and had a bit of a fishy smell. It was 100% claw meat with no tail meat. Dissapointing as the tail is so much sweeter and more flavorful. The dry roll took away from the lobster, sucking the taste away, and the fried shallots on top were the best part of the dish. Chowder was unremarkable and stingy with the clams. Overall, our lunch was as expensive as a nice dinner in Newport, with the lobster roll alone coming to $50, after tax. The drinks (beers and wines) were equally pricy. $40 for 2 average glasses of rose. The beer list is curated well and they had a good selection of local beer. We knew we were getting into pricy territory ... and would have been fine with that, if the food tasted good! Eating here is almost unavoidable if you are staying in the inn, however given the hubbub around this hotel and its Relais e Chateau status, we expected much better food from a taste and presentation standpoint. The rest of the inn is fine.

Great option for lunch when I came with my cousin. The burger was definitely the standout for me (surprisingly) but the fries unfortunately did not hit the spot (were not hot or flavored enough). The other items were ordered were clam chowder (good), heirloom tomatoes (also good), and the halibut (ironically the best part for me were the scallops that came with the dish). I will say the portion sizes of our dishes were much larger than I expected. Our server was really nice and it's prime location with a beautiful view. I definitely recommend checking it out in the area but it's not a place I need to go to all the time.

Clearly one of the top spots in Newport for "fine" dining! We had a 5:30 PM seating with friends. 3-course pre-fixe ($92/head) with many choices. We were "dressy casual". Service by Carl and his team was exemplary. We all has a round of cocktails - all well done. One of us had the second wine flight with the meal ("Wines with Altitude" - this was the only misstep of the night - the first wine was a Sicilian white that did not work with the pork belly appetizer); others had a glass of wine with the entree. Appetizers - pork belly (one of the best), beet salad, tuna, and their special pasta - all winners. Entrees - NY strip, venison loin, bass, and halibut. All well prepared and quality ingredients. And portions were right sized. Desserts - chocolate Yuzu, pear souffle, cheeses ($9 supplement), and pumpkin mousse. No issues here! Damages with holiday tip for 4 was $740. A memorable evening. Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Value 4/5 (well priced but it wasn't a bargain and we weren't expecting it to be) Cleanliness 5/5 Noise 3/5 )lively but you could talk) Decor 4/5

My friends and I came here for brunch back in October and it was lovely. The dining room is very pretty with great views of the property and water. We shared the French onion dip for an appetizer and it was so good, I could've eaten it with a spoon. For my main dish I had the chopped salad with chicken and I've been dreaming about it ever since. The dressing was a ranch vinaigrette and I've been craving it ever since. Everyone who worked here was very attentive and very friendly. I would come back here in a second the next time I'm in Newport.

Definitely a 5 star dining experience! We did the tasting menu for our mini moon which highlighted a lot of squash given the season. Highlights were the squash and crab soup and the venison. The menu allows for optionality which was perfect for my husband who is a picky eater. He could go with the tortellini and beets, whereas I opted for the seafood options like the oysters and lobster. Dario and the staff also threw in some off menu treats like prosecco, extra desserts and apple cider + gooseberry preserves for the road. Definitely a splurge for a special occasion but well worth it given the 5 star experience!

    6 course chef's tasting dinner
    Steve R.

Came for dinner on 5/2 for a special occasion. The experience was first class from start to finish. Our car was valet parked and there was no waiting for our 630 reservation. The hostess gave us a great table near the fireplace with a sunset view (it was cloudy and rainy today) its the gesture. After we were seated we were greeted by our wait staff Alex and Nick who were attentive to our every need. We had the chef tasting 6 course dinner: 1st two courses were Parsnip & rabbit; 2nd two courses were Nishilke rice & lobster; the dessert courses were Chocolate & canelo. The food was excellent! Alex and Nick were amazing!

The dining room is often closed for lunch in summer but reopens for service when it becomes too cold for the Lawn restaurant to remain open. It is always a treat to have a leisurely lunch here when you can. We took advantage of Newport Restaurant Week menus and they hit it out of the park. We had the steak frites and the swordfish. Both delicious, substantial portions but not overwhelming. Server was top notch as CH guests have learned to expect. Don't miss.

We picked this place based on its rating in the top 100 restaurants in the US for 2018. Hubby brought us there as a surprise for my birthday, and we were there at 6pm on a Friday night We were seated promptly, and the oval dining room was about halfway full. After looking over the three menu options of 3/4 course or the chef's tasting menu, we and seemingly everyone else opted for the tasting menu. Once we ordered, the dining room filled up, and by the time bread was brought around all tables were full. We tried the cheese bread and the anadama breads, along with some softened butter topped with fruit and herbs. Our table staff began with some issues deciding what cutlery we needed and fumbled a few times with bringing and taking items away which seemed clumsy for such an establishment. First course was amuse bouche of uni pana cotta with smoked oyster and was very intense. After that we had the incredible roasted Chestnut soup, which was in the top ten best soups I've ever had. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the evening, and everything went down from there. Gnocchi stuffed with figs was next, which was a surprising taste and texture combination, but was very soggy and lacked any toothsome bite one might want. Butter poached lobster with cauliflower was the seafood dish, and hubby's was delicate but mine was overcooked and rubbery which was disappointing. The beef dish was one of the worst dishes of the night, and was mushy and bloody, with little flavor. There was then the cheese dish, with toasted brioche, and then a lemon palate cleanser. I hoped for a light in the end of the tunnel with desert but truthfully it was the worst course. I had the sticky toffee pudding which was tepid and bland, hubby had the lemon souffle which was beautiful but very dense and eggy rather than light and fluffy. They also brought out a birthday cake circle which was mostly frosting, and then some truffles which were underwhelming. One of the worst parts of the evening was the pace and attention to the dinner. Despite being seated before half the tables, we were among the last to receive our dishes. Over half our courses arrived after tables around us on the same seating, and it made my better half quite mad. It was also unnerving to see the table teams dropping cutlery, shuffle around plates, and awkwardly readjust placement of plates that were already served. With the rating and price point of this restaurant, I had much higher expectations. The food was lackluster, service was lagging and attention to detail was that of a much lower rated restaurant. Overall, a huge let-down, and I would urge people looking for a fine dining experience to look elsewhere.

A poor excuse for a dessert
    Kevin D.

I have been coming here for many years and the amazing views and ambiance has always been matched by impeccable food. No longer. On my recent visit the only option was a tasting menu that the entire table had to agree on...no one could choose their own dishes. As if this lack of variety wasn't enough each plate was smaller than the last, they served a literal slice of wagyu...it was probably 2 ounces. The price is very high at $135 pp and does not include wine. This was overall a poor experience and I will not be back until significant changes are made.

We just had another fabulous dinner at Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant--our second time dining here…read moresince last fall, and it was just as wonderful as we remembered. We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes and drinks we'd love to try.

Our waiter was kind, attentive, and very patient with us as we managed two hangry kids. One employee who was on break even helped me find a quiet spot to take a work call which I really appreciated. The kids' meal came out almost immediately. My son got the cheeseburger, and I was surprised by how big it was. It was adult sized, and he enjoyed and finished all of it. The mussels were the standout of the meal and the best I've personally had. They were incredibly fresh with no fishy smell and the broth was so flavorful. The bread that came with it was perfect for soaking up every last bit of the broth. The salmon was very fresh and cooked well. The shrimp scampi was also really good. The clam chowder was an 8 out of 10 for me. Not the best I've ever had but definitely one of the better ones. Pricing was mid range and felt fair for the quality of the food and the portions. Overall, we were really happy with the meal. Great service, fresh seafood, generous kids' portions, and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely come back, especially for the mussels.

We had parked at a lot nearby for $20 a day and walked over for our event, but there is also a lot right in front of the Mooring - I believe it is paid parking but maybe it gets validated (?), not sure. Anyways, when we walked in, it gave me Titanic vibes because of the semi dim lighting, nautical theme, the water across building, and white, brown, and copper colors all around. We were seated at a table inside, part booth, part chairs. Since it was late, I did not want anything too heavy. We started with 4 shrimp which were big and juicy and came with cocktail sauce/horseradish. Next, we shared the calamari. I was happy with the flavor, crispiness, the almost 1:1 ratio of rings to tentacles, and the scattered pieces of fried banana peppers (my favorite!). The sauce it came with tasted homemade and I love that it was more than just tomatoes - there were pieces of herbs and garlic too. The entrees we ordered came soon after: the chicken ($25) and the whole roasted fish ($39). The chicken plate looked and tasted fantastic. The chicken was well seasoned with a solid crispy finish to the skin. The mashed potatoes were very smooth and tasty and the broccolini was lightly cooked in what seemed to be a buttery sauce. The sauce on the outside was spectacular and so was the chimichurri over the chicken. Everything came together really well. The baked fish on the other hand seemed to be the complete opposite where everything did taste fresh and healthy, but that meant compromising flavor. The fish (porgies) was about 8 inches long including head and tail. It was stuffed with some herbs, but it didn't come with any sauce or seasoning. The fingerling potatoes were also just roasted and the broccolini just steamed or roasted with no trace of salt or pepper at the bare minimum. The salad was arugula and I think it might've had thin shavings of jicama, but no dressing. I was disappointed with my meal because of the lack of flavor and creativity; I wished I had ordered the seafood pasta, but it felt too heavy for the time of day. For the ambiance and prestige, I felt the prices were okay. The service is great; we had a kind and attentive waiter.

Very friendly greeting and service at hostess stand (we had to wait for our table 15 min but no problem, they were on it). Waitress was just ok, good enough but not attentive and we had long waits before she reappeared. Food was average. Zucchini chips were a surprise hit, very lightly fried (and I usually don't do anything fried), dip with it was very good. Caesar salads were generously sized and crunchy good, dressing solid. For entrees our table had 2 baked cod, both were good but the portion of cod was very small in comparison with the potatoes underneath. Our table had one of the specials which was pasta bolognese. For $37 it was a major disappointment, small size for a pasta entree, average taste. May want to enquire as what the price point is on any pasta special. Last entree was the Tuna. Nice portion size but didn't get it rare as ordered, it was med so for me that ruined it. The beans and broccoli rabe were so salty underneath I took half of it home. Not sure I will eat it. Sadly disappointed in overall meal experience. A shout out to our bread, water girl who was fabulous! I really wish we got her name. She was at our table whenever we needed anything and had a bubbly personality that made our evening fun. Side note to anyone coming from Newport: for years we would take the ferry from Perrotti Park to Jamestown. That ferry is not operating as it used to and the price is double what it was in the last few years. No problem, we drove over but certainly a deterrence for us as we loved bringing guests over on the ferry.

Beech Jamestown Where Date Night Dreams Come True…read more Listen, I don't write reviews often. But Beech in Jamestown had me pulling out my phone faster than I pull out my wallet at the end of a great meal. We showed up early like the eager, slightly-too-hungry couple we are. Did they make us wait awkwardly by the hostess stand? Absolutely not. They swept us into a bright, window-wrapped room so cheerful it practically hugged us. Turns out they'd lost power earlier that day. LOST POWER. You wouldn't have known it. These people were cooler than the other side of the pillow. Now. The food. Oh, the FOOD. I got the steak with puréed pomme, asparagus, and carrots, and I need you to understand -- this thing had a sear on it that made me want to stand up and applaud. The sauce? Somebody's grandmother's secret recipe dipped in liquid gold. It melted in my mouth so fast I briefly forgot my own name. My wife had to remind me we were in public. Speaking of my wife -- she ordered the Tortellacci. Stuffed pasta, porcini mushrooms, ricotta, limoncello cream sauce, white truffle shavings. She took one bite and just stared at me. No words. Just stared. That's how you know it was BANANAS. In the best possible way. The rolls came out hot and fresh, which is honestly its own love language. Our water and bread gal? Sunshine in human form. Smiling, attentive, welcoming -- the kind of person who makes you feel like a guest, not a table number. Our waitress treated us like family, which for two people on date night is exactly the vibe you need. Beech, you had us at the bread. You kept us at the steak. We'll be back on this island, and you will absolutely see our faces again. 10/10. No notes. Just compliments.
