I've given up on this place. Always tried to like it and just never did. Keep giving them more chances and every time there's some sort of issue. Today I ordered in advance on DoorDash and showed up and they hadn't even looked at their tablet. Came in at 8:30pm after getting off of work late. This place shares a parking lot with Juice land and a bar. The shack was empty when I got there. The I ordered 6 jalapeño hush puppies and the Deville torta sandwich. The food came out pretty quickly. The Deville had a very fresh chicken taste to it. The hush puppies were crisp and soft and tasted really good, especially with the sauce. I highly recommend getting some with your order. Their Smoked Poblano Queso With Grilled Beet Pico, Goat Cheese Yogurt was a bit too sweet for my tastes. Stopped here to get lunch one bite summer afternoon and had a fair experience. I got the Edward (edamame fritters) on cauliflower rice. The reason for the three starts is that the everything apart from edamame fritters tasted very boring and did not come together well in terms of flavor. The cauliflower rice was soggy. This is my happy place. I was soooo happy when I discovered this place one night with friends on the way to The Wheel. I immediately fell in love with their amazing menu (their staples menu is incrediballs, but they also have special daily features that are kinda always mind-blowing), but knew it was meant to be when my mouth was introduced to the drool-inducing nom-ness of their pineapple express and hushpuppies. The tortas are perfection and if i were on death row, I would ask for as many jalapeño hush puppies that the state could muster up with taxpayer money. I admit that the only reason why I came here was due to the current promotion of "Free Beer Friday." Yes Austin Daily Press, you got my attention with that one! A very small venue with outdoor seating only, ADP has a menu of mainly sandwiches via burgers, chicken and cubans. On this visit, I chose the BBQ cuban sandwich, and had to get it to go. The sandwich is wrapped initially in wax paper, then in a newspaper (thought that was pretty cool) that reflects the old school way of doing it. The folks inside take their time making it just right, which is appreciated. The beer is not bad. Yeah, you won't be getting free Sam Adams, Stella Artois or Beck's, but the beer that Austin Daily Press serves is fine. When its 105 degrees out, you really aren't that picky. As long as the beer is cold (which it is), I'm happy. Parking can be a bit of a challenge at some times. The juice bar on the corner just doesn't have enough, so your best bet is to try to find a spot closest to one of the bars in the back of the small shopping plaza. Same goes for using the bathroom as well. Since Austin Daily Press is outdoor seating only, they don't have bathroom access. You'll have to use one of the bars as aforementioned. Service was pretty good. I appreciate the fact that the person that takes your order (a very attractive female) also brings you the order to your table/bar seating area. Wow. I can't wait to go back. We got three sandwiches and I tasted two of them. My daughter got the Lucille and loved it. I had the roasted chicken (forget the official name, but it had black bean spread) and it was just exceptional. The star, though, was Caul Me, which my other daughter got. She couldn't finish it, so, despite the fact that I was stuffed from my meal, I asked for a bite -- and proceeded to have several more. It's vegetarian, but it was so 'meaty' and filling that you'd never know it. It was also deliciously seasoned and just the right level of spicy. I will definitely get it when we go back, possibly today. I also got some chips and salsa. The salsa was super fresh and not too spicy and the chips were fresh and light. Possibly house-made? They were a bit limey for my taste, but they're called 'chili lime chips,' so you can't say I wasn't warned. We also got iced tea and an Arnold Palmer. A little pricey, but still good. Another great eatery apart of the MLK community that offers HUGE tortas (sandwiches) that are so, unique? Each torta offers extremely different ingredients which entails an unique experience with each. You could get the Canadian Tuxedo and be amazed by the equation of ingredients in it but then get the Deville and think, "is this the same restaurant?" The consistency of each sandwich is present solely through the bun and the marination of its meats, but the combination of ingredients offers such a euphoric experience. I've been eating at ADP for a few years now. This location by Juice Land is all outdoor seating. They have about six picnic tables out front and a bar with stools along the building. Half of this area is covered, so this is a fair weather eatery. Dog friendly, of course. Order at the window & pick up your grub at the same window when you get a buzz. Their menu has changed a little over the years, but the food has always been good. My favorites are the pork belly nachos, the jalapeño hush puppies & the Canadian tux torta. The Lucy taco is also good. The chips & queso is yummy. I always get lavender lemonade when I go. It's just made for patio sippin. On Fridays they have free beer, usually cans of Lonestar. They often have interesting specials, if you're feeling adventurous, & there's a lot to pick from if you're vegetarian. The staff is always nice, always constantly moving & multi-tasking. The parking can be sparse, depending on when you swing by. But that's every place in Austin, isn't it? The food is a little on the pricey side for a joint with no walls, but to me it's worth it. It's consistently fresh & tasty. The sandwiches used to come wrapped in newspaper, thus the daily press. Do they still do that? Not sure; I've been all about the nachos lately. ADP has become a go to for quick evening pickups. The sandwiches in my opinion are the way to go, but the tacos can hold their own if that's more your flavor. My regular order is the olive tapenade pressed sandwich, and for good reason. Add chicken and it's booming with flavor. It could actually do with less olive, it can be a bit overpowering.
