Our experience working with Austin Gardener was great. They provided us the lowest quote, did the work on time, their crew did excellent work, they cleaned up after each day, and they finished early. The quality of the work was quite good. The crew was careful and paid attention to detail. They knew how to plant plants properly which should be a given but isn't always. They also accommodated several last minute changes and worked with me to make sure I was happy with the plants and placement of everything throughout the process. They didn't wait until the end when it's hard to make any changes. Instead, we discussed everything during the process so it was easy to make adjustments. They showed up on time and worked hard. I recommend them. We had a front yard transformation. All new beds with metal siding, gravel rocks, all new plants, sprinkler adjustment, trees, a planter for my herbs etc. We live in central Austin and have a fenced in, unique front yard where we spend most of our outdoor time. They did a great job. I know a lot about plants and have a lot of opinions, so I consider myself a tough customer (ha!). But I am very pleased. It wasn't exactly cheap. But I feel like I got what I paid for. The end price was in keeping with the estimate, except for what we added during installation. read more

I hired Austin Gardeners to do the installation of landscape designs that were prepared by Michelle at Red Sun Designs. We knew going in that our budget would not allow for us to complete the entirety of the plans. Manuel provided an itemized list outlining the costs of everything in the plans which made it easy for us to narrow down the installation to what was most important to us. He provided excellent feedback about certain things that would be okay to wait on, and what would make more sense to do in the first installation. Once we had agreed upon what all from the designs would be included in the installation he provided an updated estimate. The team that did the install was very professional, making sure to leave the yard as cleaned up as possible before they left for the day. They were able to accomodate some minor last minute changes to the plans without issue and Manuel and the office were quite responsive to questions I had throughout the process. Austin gardeners did an incredible job. The personnel were highly professional and highly patient. During a major construction it was necessary to remove my fence as well as my neighbors fence and they not only repair the fence but the insured that my neighbors sprinkler system was functioning properly long after their normal duty hours. Joseph and his team did outstanding work! We reached out to have our front yard redone. The "lawn" was a mess, just weeds and dirt with almost no grass left. We were looking for a more drought tolerant landscape. After an initial walk through, we paid to have Austin Gardeners come up with the landscape design. We decided on adding a walkway, small stone bench, and gravel to the yard. Joseph was great about listening to feedback and even returned several times to go over changes and make sure everything was to our liking. He was exceptionally easy to communicate with and responded to emails lightening fast! They were booked out around ~8 months for projects, and we signed up for the next available. During that time, the big freeze swept through Austin and killed many of our existing plants. Austin Gardeners was flexible and came back yet another time to rework the design to accommodate the plant losses. The project itself went smoothly and quick! I highly recommend Chavez and his team of Cirilo (Beto and two other guys). I had a big ugly mud pit of a yard (great shade!) for years. I finally called around and got 4 quotes. Austin Gardeners was one of the more affordable quotes and Chavez dreamed up the entire design for concrete and gravel to make the mud pit a beautiful patio/firepit area to be enjoyed. I have no experience with landscaping so I liked that Chavez threw out ideas based on my budget and what I liked as we discussed the options. The firepit was a little confusing and Chavez was patient as we tweaked it a bit at the end of the project. He said it was no problem to change a few things to make sure the customer was happy. Also Cirilo and his team were very respectful and professional. They always cleaned up after they left for the day (so refreshing). They were really good guys. First, Manuel Soto came out and walked through my yard with me, noting everything that needed to be done. It took about a week to get everything done. The trees, palms, and shrubs were shaped and trimmed, the beds mulched, with lovely new plants added, new soil appeared and new grass was planted, the deck was power washed and stained, door of my furnace shed was fixed, rotting door jambs were replaced and painted, the sprinkler system was checked and tested, everything was fertilized, the eaves were cleaned of bugs, new jasmine was added to the trellis on the deck, and the drip system was incorporated into the sprinkler system. I cannot praise enough the dedication, excellence, and professionalism of the crew. Led by Oracio, who instinctively seemed to know exactly what I wanted, Aristo and Daniel---hardworking, careful, courteous, and just lovely people---finished the job today. In my experience, landscapers TELL you what you should want. By contrast, Manuel and Oracio LISTENED to what I wanted, and gave it to me. The result is beautiful, and makes me happy. There is no place outside my house that doesn't give me joy. These guys are professional, dedicated, hardworking, courteous, careful, fast, and amazing. Terrible with setting and managing expectations. I was referred to this company from an overly expensive landscape designer after spending $1800 on a plan (I now know that landscape companies will provide customers with a free plan). Manuel came out to review the plan in June, committed to send updates and gave a project start of August. It is now almost September. I was ghosted and followed up and the response I get is "we're busy". Terrible customer service. Perhaps if you are spending $30K +, this company feels that you are worth excellent customer service. If you are not planning to spend that amount in one go, don't expect to get the same high level of customer service that you are seeing from the reviews! If they have a budget limit, communicate that to customers and don't waste their time. read more

We had to wait month's for them to come out to do the install and then when they finally did show up they didn't have the correct parts so only installed half of the railing. They came back to finish the project but the railing was not level across the top. Came back a 3rd time to fix and this time it wasn't level up and down. On the 4th visit, they adjusted slightly and said that was as much as they could do since our patio wasn't completely level. There were scratches in the metal which they had to paint over after I said something to them but made it out like it was my fault. Would definitely not recommend their services! read more

Austin Gardeners was highly recommended to me by neighbors, but unfortunately my experience with them was bad. Called for a consultation in June, got an appointment in August. I expected Manuel, but Chavez showed up for the consultation. I was expecting some recommendations, but he seemed to just want me to tell him what I wanted. I went ahead and paid $700 for a design plan, thinking that if I gave them money they'd know I was a "serious customer" and that I'd get better service. My mistake! Finally received my plan and estimate on November 3, three months after the consultation. The plan didn't really reflect what we'd discussed. They didn't seem interested in revisions and were pretty much "take-it-or-leave it". They also said wouldn't be able to start until the next May, seven months out. I wasn't in any hurry, actually, but had seen so many red flags that I just gave up on working with them. I know businesses everywhere are overwhelmed with work right now and struggling with labor shortages, but they really made absolutely no effort with me. Very disappointed. read more

In about two weeks Austin Gardeners transformed our backyard from a large mud pile which we never used to an amazing family friendly area which we now use everyday. The team was great to work with! They were on time, worked very hard, and were great listeners. I am a koi pond enthusiast and every time I asked for something to be different the project manager Lalo's response was "if that makes you happy". In addition to the koi pond, the project also included a sitting patio area and a leveled artificial turf area. Now, instead of no one (including our dog) wanting to go back there we spend as much time enjoying our wonderful new backyard. Not recommended for repair work If you look at my other reviews, you will see that I don't generally post negative reviews. I regret hiring this company. They weren't able to correctly diagnose my water pressure problem and installed the wrong parts for the incorrect work they did. I was losing confidence in them, so when they recommended a major $450 repair job on top of the $300 I paid them to replace the sprinkler heads (that I later learned didn't need replacing), I said no. Instead I called a plumber who suggested I have them take a look at the backflow device. I called Austin Gardeners to have them come back and take a look at the back flow. I waited but but they never came -- probably because I had paid them already. I eventually hired another irrigation company--see my review of Diamond Irrigation--who fixed their work and correctly diagnosed the problem as a valve that needed replacement for $120. For total price I paid two irrigation companies for this project, I now know that I could have simply increased the pressure by redirecting my irrigation system's water source in front of the house's pressure reducer instead of unnecessarily replacing the sprinkler heads with expensive low pressure sprinkler heads. read more

Expensive mistake. I went with Austin Gardeners for my new back lawn even though they were the priciest option. The pictures on the site looked good and I assumed that the extra cost would ensure extra attention to detail. I had explained to the foreman what I wanted when he came out for the consultation, but he was not there when the crew came and got started. I was unable to monitor the situation and by the time I could get a good look, they had shaped the yard and laid most of the sod, and it was done totally wrong. A big valley through the middle where it was supposed to be flat. I had trouble communicating with the crew, language barrier, but it was obvious that they were annoyed that I was upset. I don't totally blame them, I just don't think they had any direction to do it in the specific way I was asking for. It seems that they rushed to get it done so they wouldn't have to come back, and it ended up looking like shit. Missing patches of sod, big holes, bumpy, etc. I called and complained and just got the runaround about how it's supposed to be that way, and will fill in, etc. but it didn't. My renters also thought it looked bad for how much I paid. When I mow the lawn now, the mower still jumps around, and I can't mow close to the fence because the mower tilts into the fence, when it was supposed to be flat. The only positive I feel is that the grass is still better than the weeds that filled the yard before, but I did not get the smooth/flat/unbumpy lawn I was hoping for. read more

I had someone come out for an estimate two weeks ago and the rep showed up two hours early while my baby was asleep without any warning. I was off put by this, but showed him around anyway. He took pictures and only wrote down succulents on his note pad out of everything i explained. While he was here I explained I wanted this completed for when my family was coming in two weeks from now. It was a very simple project. Fast forward two weeks later, i have been calling for a couple days with either no call back and then yesterday the receptionist said he would have my quote today. I called since it is almost end of business and she put on the contractor who told me he had four other quotes in front of mine and didn't know when he would be able to send. I now have wasted the two weeks I had to get this done and wont be able to find another contractor to do it in time. Very disappointed in their service. They need to be a bit more coordinated and upfront with their clients. read more

This falls under, "Service After The Sale". I had these guys install the sprinkler system in my yard 2 years ago. The job was decent, although the strips of land between the sidewalk and the street don't seem to get any water and the grass is mostly weeds. I have to hand water and constantly care to get it like the rest of the lawn. Also the control unit has been replaced twice. One by Austin Gardeners, and once by me. It seems these things go out some time during the winter. Ok, enough background. So the ground starts flooding somewhere between the main line and the sprinkler cutoff. I shutoff the water at the main and call several Plumbers, none of which can come out for at least 3 days. So I call Austin Gardeners, and based on the location they tell me it's not an irrigation issue and to call a Plumber. With no Plumber for 3 days I start digging. I expose the leak, and it's the fitting from the main copper to PVC right in from of the T that splits to the irrigation. So I call Austin Gardeners back and let them know it look like it is an irrigation issue since it's all connected together. They say that someone can come by the next morning (9AM) and look at it (which incurs a $75 visit fee), and if they can fix it the fee will be absorbed in the fix. I say ok. 11AM rolls around and no site visit, I call them back and they say that my visit was forgotten and they would come the next day. Desperate to turn my water back on after 2 days I agree. FFWD to 8:45AM the next day, the irrigation guys are here, they look at the leak (I dug the hole, cleaned the area and exposed everything ready to be fixed. All they had to do was drive up and look) and they say they don't have the part to fix it, and will call the main office. I get a call back about 30 min later saying it IS a plumber issue and that will be $75. After a heated exchange (which should never happen in the service industry) I hang up and go back out examine the problem some more and take some photos. I notice that the connections put in for irrigation was completely mis-aligned with the main line coming in and put a bend in the connection adding undue stress, and it was only a matter of time until the stress on the connection gave way (which it did after 2 years). After a visit to Home Depot, and cutting, sanding, and glueing of PVC, I ended up fixing the broken connection myself and used a more suitable triple-45' setup so I could align the PVC to the copper adapter perfectly. Bottom line, lowest price seems to mean shortcuts, and after the 1 year warranty is up. My yard had to have been the absolute ugliest in the entire subdivision. After last summer's drought, my grass was completely dead and nothing regrew this year as Spring and Summer sped along. I don't have the time to water frequently enough so I started looking for solutions. I interviewed and received estimates from a total of 3 landscaping companies. Out of all of them, I only felt that Blake from Austin Gardeners really knew what he was doing. He showed me computerized diagrams of what my yard would look like and photographs and physical samples of the materials that would be used. Contracted Austin Gardeners to come out and overhaul my backyard, side walkway and area in front of the house. ( I support LOCAL PF businesses whenever possible. ) I was tired of the bushes and mess behind my pool. They came up with a design, similar to what's on their website. They scraped off the sod down to dirt and dug the bushes up by the roots. I was amazed what 4 guys did in one day. They used 2 different types and color of gravel differentiated by a metal border. Then they xeriscaped the areas so my maintenance headaches are gone!! Site survey was on a Tuesday and 4 days later a crew showed up and got started. 2 days later it's done and LOOKS FANTASTIC. The back yard seems so much bigger. Very Satisfied with the work done. It's back breaking manual labor and the crew acted like they were having fun. They cleaned up everything and hauled it all away. What? Wow! Not only did they burn a past client (us) but unbelievable that this is their service model? Used them years ago and they did fine work when it was Manuel and a small company. We spent many thousands doing a very significant amount of work and re-design. We also referred them for new clients.It was a very nice experience. Could not of asked for better service. From the receptionist to the work crew and everyone in between these were great people to do business with. They were recommended by our landscape architect and we could not be more pleased with the results. The bid was competitive, they showed up when they said they would, cleaned up every day, completed the project on time and the work was impeccable.
