Austin's Harvest is located inside Brookgreen Botanical Garden and was surprisingly tasty. I generally don't have high expectation for any restaurant inside paid attractions, but quite honestly, the SHE-CRAB SOUP here could stand against any restaurant serving the same. It was absolutely one of the best I've ever had! My wife and I also shared the ROASTED TURKEY SANDWICH and I must say, for a woman with a mostly vegetarian diet, she devoured her half of our meal like a true carnivore! Maybe it was because we stopped here to escape the heat after walking approximately 2.5 miles around the garden grounds, or maybe it was simply an alignment of the earth, moon, stars and all my dreams of someday seeing her share a meat base meal with me! Either way, she has now officially earned the title of a SOMETIMES-A-TARIAN instead of a vegetarian :-) I also want to make special note of the fries, which were so good we almost ordered a second round! Came with my brother to enjoy a lunch in the garden. The older seating hostess acted hostile and condescending to the point that we wondered how she could possibly be working in a public facing capacity. After a few minutes we decided to leave based on this rude individual. Plenty of other places in Litchfield that are happy to serve us. read more

Great food. Love that the have indoor and outdoor seating! We opted for outside enclosed with gear lamps so we could still enjoy the ambiance of the Night of a Thousand Candles. The specialty cocktails were tasty! We did enjoy a nice Adult Hot Cocoa and Grinch themed mimosa. The Caesar salad and shrimp and grits were equally delicious. I get so excited whenever we go to Brookgreen Gardens because I know we are going to eat at Austin's Harvest. First we took again the Brookgreen 101 tour. Especially about the Spanish Moss. So informative. Then off to Austin's. Our waitress appeared out of thin air. He got the soup and salad. I got the Mahi Mahi with vegetables. His side salad was huge. My fish was okay. Came with my corvette club to the gardens and stopped in here for lunch. They were super busy, but seated us in 5 minutes. I had the southern dip. It was plentiful and fried super yummy. Two of my friends only had carrot cake and key lime pie. Josh was our waiter and was awesome! Iced tea was nice and strong and plenty of refills. Food came out pretty quick for as busy ad they were. Went for lunch. A few other tables seated outside, but it didn't seem overly busy. Seated by hostess, sat for five minutes, no service, even though multiple service staff walked by. Thought the server who was taking care of the table next to ours might acknowledge us with a "hi, I will be with you in a few" or something to that nature but no. Flagged down the hostess to ask if the lobster roll that is served on the dinner menu would be available for lunch. Her response was "I don't know, you can ask your server." She then walked away. First of all we were greeted with a welcoming smile and a pleasant southern greeting. Secondly, the weather was as in our favor for outdoor dining. We found the perfect seat and within a few minutes our waitress greeted us with a welcoming and friendly personality. Since we were first time visitors we solicited her advice on food choices. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and freely offered thoughts on food choices which helped us make our selections. I ordered the fried grouper sandwich with fries and my guest ordered jumbo fried shrimp with fries and peach slaw. Both our meals were so delicious. It was my first time trying grouper fish and I was impressed. The jumbo shrimp was fried perfectly and was crunchy and juicy. To add to our great meal, the ambiance was superb. The restaurant sits at the edge of the garden and offers a relaxing atmosphere with beautiful plants and draping live oak allee trees. Service is almost consistently awful. My family and I have been here on several occasions as there isn't much of a choice at Brookgreen if you plan on staying in the park. EVERY time, we are rushed out and made to feel uncomfortable. We feel as if we are bothering the staff by requesting to sit and eat. Y'all, we have three children and they sat us, got our order, shared an appetizer, had our entrees and they grabbed our plates back all within 30 MINUTES!! We had our last experience with Cece as our server. She demanded our order before our butts hit the seat! This last experience made me regret coming to Brookgreen at all! She told us they ran out of the dessert that was the special for the day and as we left we saw another table getting that dessert brought to their table. Also, before we could even get up from the table , we were swarmed by 4 or 5 people clearing the table. !!! It was madness. Y'all, my girls were very well behaved! A lovely day in a beautiful spot with delicious food. Super combination. We had made reservations and were promptly seated. Our server, Sarah, was charming and helpful. Our group ordered salads and sandwiches, fried oysters and fried green tomatoes and thoroughly enjoyed them. I HAD to have the Hushpuppies and omg they were the best: great flavor; correct doneness and had corn niblets in the batter! My sandwich was turkey, lettuce, and smoked gouda with cranberry mayonnaise and it was excellent. We ate outside under the patio awning-perfect. Really excellent food - she crab soup is the best I've ever had! Great service as well. The only issue I have is there are zero lights on walking up to the restaurant from outside. I loved the Fried Green Tomatoes, Flash Fried Oysters, Fried Okra, and white Bean Soup. All were very good. My Dinner Salad was very good, but not exceptional. We have been enjoying this restaurant for many years. It is located in the beautiful Brookgreen Gardens Sculpture Park near Pawley's Island and Garden City. In fact, we have made special trips there just to enjoy the culinary fare. However, our last three visits have put a cease to that happening again. There were four of us who ate there on our last visit. The quality of food has gone down drastically while prices have increased. One person in our party ordered a bowl of she-crab soup, (rather than a cup of the soup.) However, upon being served the soup, we were shocked to discover it was served in a very tiny ramekin. We brought this to the attention of the floor manager. He contended they no longer serve the soup in larger bowls, and the item provided was the current size of the bowl. We can only envision that a "cup" of the soup that is now being served must be in an expresso cup! We were further snidely told, "Have you seen the price of crab today?" We advised him that, yes, we had but we would gladly pay more for a decent serving portion of the soup. He was rude at best and didn't even offer an alternative to the soup. Because of his attitude of defensive indifference, we didn't address the fact that the beef in the "Southern Dip" beef sandwich was extremely dry, and the cooking oil in the bottom of the children's spaghetti was excessive and disproportionate to the amount of noodles. Furthermore, it wasn't spaghetti but another another type of pasta similar to ziti. The service was also poor, and we had to wait for over 10 minutes to get the bill once everyone had communicated they were finished. I am appalled by how much this restaurant has gone downhill over the past year. The recipes are excellent, as is the sweet tea, but sadly the rest of the experience at Austin's is dreadful. Think twice--this isn't fine dining, but adequate and pricy dining at best. read more

We had dinner at the Harvest yesterday evening. It could not have been a better experience. The setting is magical. We ate at an outside table with the gardens and majestic live oaks all around us. The food was consistently excellent- from the bread and crispy wontons for the table, to the beautifully presented and delicious house salad, on to the Pistachio encrusted Grouper with Crabmeat main course, with risotto and green beans. The fish was crispy outside and moist and tender inside, the risotto creamy and rich, and the green beans were cooked just right- still a bit crisp and clearly fresh. Service was impeccable. Sarah was professional and friendly, we shared dishes and the staff brought us extra clean plates for each course. Really the service throughout the evening was first rate. To top it off, it was "Wine Wednesday," which meant that every bottle of wine was half off! An amazingly good restaurant experience!!! read more

Pretty good for a restaurant at a tourist attraction. We started with hush puppies. You get a huge bowl of them (maybe 20?) and they were excellent. I had the turkey sandwich. It was good, not great but it was a turkey sandwich after all. The toast it came on was good as was the cranberry mayo. I think if they would heat up the turkey and cheese on a flattop it would be next level good. My wife had the flounder sandwich. She thought it was bland and definitely needed the tartar sauce. The potato salad was very bland and I wouldn't recommend it. read more

The location is the only reason I gave two stars. We ordered salad with grilled chicken. The chicken smelled "funny". I risked a bite. At best the chicken was old and dry. We pointed this out to our server who could have cared less. Needless to say, we didn't eat the chicken. read more
