Went for my dog's OFA advanced cardiac exam/echo with hopes of a normal heart on my dog who has gotten the short end of the genetic stick despite solid, reputable breeding(sometimes that's how it goes). Good news, her heart is beautiful! While it wasn't a sick visit and I truly hope I never see you guys again, I appreciate the clear communication both by the tech to get us checked in and by the vet going over the results of the exam/echo. They are still curbside only and while I'm sure a lot of people may be wanting to come inside I appreciate being able to sit in my car to work on other stuff, listen to music and bonus my dog has a new experience meeting new people in a positive environment. The doctor was very clear and informative and I did not feel rushed at all. There was good communication/expectations about protocol including having the form to fill out the animal's medical history emailed so I could do it a week in advance, quick checkin/process. CVCA was recommended by AVES (they are in the same building), and we recently went in for an echocardiogram & consult for our dog. Scheduling was easy & fast. The location itself is easy to get to. The cost was honestly lower than what I was expecting. The consult with the echocardiogram was around $600. This is actually cheaper than the last visit to our regular vet. It was cheaper than the AVES emergency bill. I also realized that the reason our original AVES quote was so high was because CVCA is closed on weekends. Our dog would wait over the weekend for the cardiologist at CVCA to look at him on Monday. The cost of staying at AVES overnight was more than the actual cardiologist consult. The staff member that we talked to during intake (Sorry, I don't remember their name) was very polite on the phone & was very good to our dog in person. I got the impression that they enjoy their job very much & showed compassion towards our furbaby. Dr. Bordelon seemed kind & compassionate as well. More importantly, they seemed very knowledgeable. I feel like they cared about our dog. It turned out that they couldn't do much in the way of treatment, as the main problem was not related to his heart, but he was referred to an oncologist. They explained why they suspected cancer and the possible next steps. Knowing what could possibly happen next was important, since the question after getting diagnostics done is: "What's next for my dog?" They were pretty calm and they were able to answer all of our questions. Even if it wasn't good news, and there wasn't anything else they could do, I feel like they did their best. We got a copy of the echocardiogram results & evaluation notes promptly through e-mail, and they coordinated with the other vets for our dog's care. When our dog passed, CVCA sent us an e-mail. This felt like an extra step of care, since CVCA only saw him once. Our regular vet who saw him yearly for annual exams hasn't said anything, lol. I actually never met Dr. Bordelon in person, due to COVID-19 procedures, but the fact they were able to deliver this type of service & communicate over the phone is amazing. I feel fortunate that there are board certified vet cardiologists here in Austin. At least our dog was seen by a doctor with further specialization & experience. In case somebody is reading Yelp because they have a pet with suspected heart problems, I recommend CVCA. read more

We took our kitty to the 7300 Ranch office today for an echocardiogram. It was pouring torrential rain and Karol the tech rushed out with an umbrella to shelter me and Debbie (yes, our kitty is Debbie) from the downpour once we'd parked. The Dr (whose name I don't recall) and Karol made the visit smooth and stress free. For whatever reason I was not lookiong forward to the scan and the whole shebang but they made it a pleasure. I would just say to be careful of when the Vet decides to change up medication for your pet. We took our doggy there and the vet mentioned he didn't need his enapril anymore and put him on a very expensive medicine Vetmedin which he didn't need as much as he needed enapril and lasix.. due to there decision our dog suffered a heart attack and a day later died from this poor decision.. my Vet mentioned that they super cede them and have to listen to what they say even many pets died because of their poor decisions. Please think twice as my poor Dog won't have a chance to anymore. Disgusting, I would think that a specialist should have some knowledge.. I know better now. I was told by the emergency clinic and my own Vet thats the reason this happened. Very sad and awakening for future. I appreciate what Vets do, but think next time, before you decide to switch up a dogs medicine. In Response.. I left a message at your clinic because you're closed, but, are you trying to say that you don't make any mistakes?? Things unfortunately happen, but when something is wrong then please don't make excuses.. again, I am not a Vet, but speaking to multiple ones that worked with Simba said that. His coughing got worse due to fluid buildup and he wasn't on the correct medication to remove it, and over the course of a few months thats what happened. I am so grateful to find a cardiologist for our Maeve at a place where we immediately felt comfortable. Everyone I spoke to from setting up the appointment, to pre visit questions, and the doctor were all great communicators, knowledgeable, and thorough in explaining the process and answering questions I had. If they tell you your pet has Chagas' disease and there is no cure, DO NOT BELIEVE them! 1.5 years ago we were referred by our primary vet here and after lots of tests, it was confirmed that my dog had Chagas' disease. The vet that called and gave me the news was cold and matter of fact and I'll never forget her exact words, "it is a fast progressing disease with no cure and usually after diagnosis they live less than a year". Well, thankfully I did it give up! I found a vet in Bulverde Dr Madigan who works with Texas A&M treating these dogs with a very high success rate. I took my dog there and he was started on the treatment right away. 12 mths of medication and as of today, he is healed! Not only that but his EKG was normal and he is off heart meds! I wrote to CVCA and told them I thought it was not fair to not disclose this information to pet owners and their reply was, it's not FDA approved yet. Well, neither is Covid treatments but it saves lives also! Shame on them for not helping these poor babies! read more

Appointment at 8:00am. Arrived 8:07. Wasn't greeted until 8:15. Was told because I was late I could not go back with my dog for the 700 dollar appointment and the appointment would end promptly at 9:00 regardless. Unprofessional. For 700 dollars, 7 minutes shouldn't make or break an appointment. I waited longer for them then they did for me. Review was saved by cardiologist. She took the time to explain everything well and answer all my questions, making a discovery that multiple vets had not and possibly increasing the life expectancy of my doggie. feeling the time crunch of making sure that I wrapped everything up by 9 did impact my time with the doctor and I do not feel that I was able to gain all the necessary information considering I can only afford to do this once every 5 years. read more

Contacted their Colorado Springs staff and on their instruction completed the online patient forms, emailed them my pets vet records including recent labs and X-rays, then took my pet to Power Pet ER so he could then be seen by the Pet Cardio cardiologist. We waited several hours while my pet had an abnormal heart rhythm, finally had the echocardiogram only to never be able to see and talk with the cardiologist who performed this. Got follow up from the ER vet at Powers who is not a cardiologist. My primary vet called next day with bloodwork indicating off the charts indicators for heart failure so I emailed both Pet Cardio and Powers Pet Emergency with this info. asking for direction, just like the checkout sheet says to do. When I called Cardio Pet to speak with the cardiologist who performed my pets echo I was refused. Staff stated that despite following their instructions to a T and paying over $969.44 including a $554.44 Echo Cardiogram Fee with a line item description as "PetCardia EchoCardiogram" I had no "legal standing" to inquire about my pets results, ask questions from the cardiologist who performed the test, get my pets results including a copy of the $554.44 Echocardiagram... WTF? 8 hours of phone calls to both Pet Cardio and Powers Pet so I can get the information to save my pets life and all I get is fingerpointing between the two practices, excuses and some ridiculous conversations that despite sending records, completing patient intake forms, signing consent forms and oh paying an almost $1,000.00 Bill I don't have the right to ask about my pets health, care, results etc.??? Never in decades of responsible pet ownership have I ever dealt with this level of fraud and incompetence. This is one for the AG's Office. read more

My recent visit with my 12 y o Boxer mix with a heart murmur was great. We saw Dr. Bordelon. (It was our second vet cardiologist visit, though our first at CVCA as our previous cardiac vet has recently retired. We had originally scheduled with Dr. Meier, but when she moved to CVCA, and then I called to reschedule due to a conflict, the staff let me know that Dr. Bordelon's schedule was quite open and we could be seen a week sooner than our original appointment!) I was nervous taking my ornery girl Cybele to a new vet since she is very stranger shy and usually growls fiercely at unknown people. The tech, Bo, was patient and understanding with her, and even asked if it was okay to put the "party hat" on. (I was like, yes, please muzzle this beast before she kills you.) During the exam and ultrasound, Bo gently but firmly held Cybele in place on the exam table, while I cradled and petted her head, and Dr. Bordelon quickly but carefully got all the images she needed for measurement and comparison to records from Cybele's last visit. As soon as she was done taking the images and the beast was released to roam around the office (Bo offered treats, Cybele growled at him and then took them), Dr. Bordelon took a few minutes to make her comparisons to records from the last check-in and then took her time explaining to me - with a heart diagram - what she was seeing in terms of changes to Cybele's heart chambers, compared to her first ultrasound 2 years ago, and what that meant for treatment right now and what we can probably expect for the future. She reviewed what outward symptoms to be on the lookout for in terms of advancement of cardiac degeneration, and recommended we keep the current medication prescription, reminding me to make sure her regular vet does regular bloodwork to watch her kidney function. I also took this all home in a very clear few pages of instructions. A very thorough check-up, but I was also in and out of the office in less than an hour. FYI, CVCA exists within a larger Emergency Vet Clinic. When I first arrived, I was greeted by a receptionist for the whole clinic who then notified the CVCA people that I was there. They came out a few minutes later with the new patient forms for me to fill out. Also, FYI, if you haven't been to one before, a cardiac vet isn't cheap - our visit with the ultrasound/echocardiogram as a new patient was $650. (Not sure if this will be the same the next time, or if a new patient consult is more expensive..) This cost is no different than our first visit with the previous cardiac vet 2 years ago. read more

I wish I can give this place a 0/5 stars. They killed my dog. Words can not explain how angry I am. They told us the visit would cost roughly $760 and I was okay with that. Understanding I would only be paying for a ECG and a Exam. My dog did indeed have heart failure. We had to wait outside due to COVID regulations. Our dog was alive and was able to go on walks and bark regardless of his conditions. They didn't bother to call us to tell us our bill will be going up by $50 or so because they will be giving my animal TWO!! Lasix shots. In case nobody knows what those are. They are furosemide but in liquid form. They did not call us to tell us they will be giving that to our pet. If a large amount of furosemide is given to an animal it can cause liver failure. We had blood work done on my dog a week ago and his levels were normal. They basically overdosed my dog. Now imagine the vet who brings your dog to you without telling you his tongue is blue and gives you medication to take with you. You think everything is okay. You start driving home and you see your dog collapsing and looking at you for help and passes away before your eyes. You see him endure a painful death. After you just payed this place $860 to apparently "save or help your dog". My family knew we were going to say goodbye at some point but it wasn't going to be this soon. They killed him and now I warn anyone who brings there pet here. If they had called me to tell me that "is it okay if they administer those shots?" He probably would be alive now. If they had asked the right questions and not be so negligent about the conditions of my dog he would still be here. read more

I took my cat to this clinic based on knowing Dr. Meirer (who previously treated our schnauzer w/CHF), who I was not able to see immediately and was scheduled with Dr. Bordelon. I drove over an hour to take my very sick Kitty (OK2) who was thought by his primary care vet, to have heart issues based on x-rays. He was having difficulty breathing, not eating, and very weak (very sudden onset). I had to drop him off in his crate on the sidewalk where a tech picked him up and took him in, family not allowed in w/pet. Dr. Bordelon called me within approx 10 minutes to say my Kitty was stressed and fragile, had fluid in his chest and she wanted to drain it. Said it would improve Kitty's breathing. I approved this procedure. Kitty was returned to the sidewalk in about 35 minutes. Dr. Bordelon called and informed me that she had taken 140mls of fluid from Kitty's chest, that he did not have a heart issue and that it could be cancer or an infection. She said Kitty should feel better w/in 24-48 hours, but that fluid would mostly likely return at some point and that I should have him followed by his local vet (who's treated him for 13 years). She did not offer their oncologist as an option, and did not mention FIP, which is common in many cats. She did not seem very concerned about my Kitty or my feelings for my fur baby. She however, was eager to collect the $1000+ fees (their paperwork states you will pay at time of visit, and they will take you to court if you don't pay.) I asked if she could send out a sample of the fluid removed to determine what could be the cause of his sudden demise, she told me it had been thrown out already (this is in a matter of less than an hour)! But stated if I decided to have fluid removed in the future, they could send a sample out. My Kitty was lifeless when I picked him up and when I brought him home. I kept waiting for him to improve, but that did not happen, in fact his situation digressed quickly. He could not sit up, walk, eat, drink, his pupils were totally dilated and he looked to be in a great deal of pain. I monitored him all night and at 5:45 a.m, texted his primary vet and scheduled him to come in to be put to sleep. He was in horrific pain and the fear in his eyes is not something I will ever forget. He was put to sleep at 7:15 Tuesday morning. I hold myself responsible for not making that decision sooner, and Dr. Bordelon for not saying to me that he could not be helped and that he should be euthanized immediately. I urge vets and specialty vets to be brutally honest with pet parents about their fur babies prognosis so they can make the best decision for their fur baby. That was NOT done with me, and I feel it was all about the money they can make. Pet parents like me will pay any amount if they think their fur baby can be saved. So wrong! Do the right thing, talk to us, we love our fur babies and don't want them to suffer. I have a bitter taste in my mouth about CVCA and cannot recommend them for any specialty care. If your fur baby needs care, seek care at TX A&M. I will know never know why my Kitty was healthy and then 4 days later, dead... with medical care. read more

After being misinformed about her underlying condition at another facility, Dr. Borderline was able to diagnose, perform surgery, and ultimately treat my pup. She has an amazing bedside manner and allows the owner to be present during echocardiograms, which is hard to find anywhere else. Excellent people and care! read more
