Back again! I cannot say enough about Author's. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in the valley. Tonight we came back for the salmon sashimi because it is a must have. We each ordered our own because sharing these bites of heaven is not an option. Our service as always was phenomenal and we were well attended to throughout our dinner. The salmon was cooked perfectly and I could have drank that beurre blanc. The caramelized onion risotto was creamy and had a lot of depth in flavor. The braised beef was tender, juicy, and paired perfectly with the pesto. The gnocchi I could have eaten 1,000 of. They were the most pillowy, soft little clouds and left you wanting more. Ordered takeout only, but absolutely loved our food. So looking forward to eating inside someday soon - they are open now!! We ordered shrimp scampi and the ravioli special, both were amazing and definitely enough food for 2 meals. The ravioli filled me up with one alone!! Stuffed with mushrooms in a chicken tomato sauce - so creamy and good. The appetizer was also good, a lot more pecans that we expected in a roasted Brussels dish, but we really enjoyed the unique flavor! The scampi was amazing too - that risotto is to DIE FOR. Extra bonus of a dessert added into our order for free! Such a nice gesture and a sure way to get me to order it again next time. One of the best places in the valley. Great coffee and lots of mimosa flavors. The food is incredible, they're known for rotating homemade empanada flavors (daily) and always have great features ready to go every morning. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cozy atmosphere inside, outdoor seating in the middle of downtown college Ave. It's shaded in the morning (not sure about later on). Never had a less than stellar experience! read more

Stayed overnight in Appleton for the Lions/Packers game last night. Tried this place for breakfast on our way out of town. The server was excellent! I was pleasantly surprised by Author's Kitchen + Bar. My partner and I went for a Friday night dinner. The atmosphere is posh but cozy, a good date night choice. Our server Victoria was kind and attentive. We started with some old fashions (Wisconsin whiskey sweet and sour) which were on point. For the apps you need to try the empanadas and the Burrata. Entrées, I got Halibut with potatoes and broccolini and my partner got pan seared scallops, both were excellent. The only demerit and surprise to us was that after leaving we reeked of fish; our clothes, hair, everything. Strange because we didn't notice a strong smell during our dinner. That said, I don't think that will stop us from coming back to try their breakfast. read more

Don't know if they are good authors but they certainly are great artists. THE BEST eggs Benedict I've ever had (the one made with braised short ribs). They are really busy here (at least for Sunday brunch) but it's well worth the wait. Be patient and you will be rewarded with wonderful food and friendly and attentive service. It's been a long time since I yelped about anything, but this place won my heart and a review! The place has a comfortable warm atmosphere. Our waitress, Victoria, was simply one of the best waitresses I have ever had! She was super sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was amazing! I had the chicken empanada, which was one of the best I also had the meatloaf sandwich with tomato soup that was so delicious!! Everything tasted fresh! I love love this place! It was my first time to dine here with my husband. We came here around 8pm on a Saturday night. A few parties were ahead of us and they were enjoying their cocktails in the lounge. We got seated fairly quickly without a reservation. I just simply love their decoration all around and on each table. I also love the space between each aisle of tables and the right amount of lighting. It's sophisticated with the books and plants on the table. Our waiter was very nice and introduced us their signatures. We got their empanadas, salmon, and short ribs. Everything turned out perfect and yummy. It wasn't too expensive compared to any other upscale restaurants. We had a good time and will definitely come back! Highly recommended! read more

Currently the best restaurant in Appleton right now and there's quite a gap that separates it from everyone else. We finally have a restaurant that can hold a level of cooking to bigger cities in the State and this is it. Author's delivers on it's vision and cohesive menu that emphasizes elevated but comforting and unpretentious cuisine. All the pasta is handmade in house, and handmade well they are. The texture hits the mark as no where else in the fox cities area have I gotten gnocchi that wasn't gummy and dense, or tagliatelle that was fresh and wholesome. The brioche basket and the charcuterie was also a big highlight on the menu. The herb butter on the perfectly fluffy textured eggy brioche is extremely indulgent and well worth the money. Honestly we ordered about 8 items on the menu through two trips and could not find a weakness in any dish as they were all thoughtfully put together component-wise and seasoning wise. Finally made it here for breakfast/brunch. I started out with the white chicken chili which was phenomenal. I ordered the meatloaf with caramelized onions Swiss and garlic aioli. This sandwich is melt in your mouth fantastic! The meat is perfectly seasoned and super tender and the au jus was perfect. Hubbs had the breakfast special which was kind of like a breakfast skillet. Scrambled eggs, house made sausage, green peppers, onion and potatoes. Tasted very good. He also got a side of French toast and those were like a sweet little pillow of deliciousness! Can't wait to go back and try some more things off the breakfast/brunch menu. There are so many great things on the menu it's very hard to decide. I'll just have to try them all! I also have to mention that the people who own and are employed at this establishment are so hospitable and friendly, the service is always top notch. Monday night at 5p, immediate seating. First, if you don't want to dine, there is a bar. No tap list but some decent beer options. Wines in glasses and bottles as usual. No sprits be mixed drinks. They have some quite interesting dishes. We had salmon sarshimi over crispy rice and burrata with eggplant and pinenuts. I love how the sarshimi was done at room temperature, not too cold! My main dish was shrimp scampi. The shrimps were breaded with panko and the risoto was cooked with mixed veggies in a creamy sauce. Then I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which was awesome and my wife ordered the chicken Empanadas which was right up there too. I don't know which one was better. They both won! We each had 2 drinks the arGINtine delight and the amelfie. Super delicious with flavour that will tantalize your taste buds. The service was some of the best I've ever had. We love this place and have returned several times and sent friends. The drinks are great. The Bloody Mary is excellent with their own mix. The empanadas are interesting and delicious.
