I tried them out for a very complicated software issue that was affecting my shift patterns and was plain annoying. They had the car for 2 days for diagnostics and resolved the issue completely. Anytime my car needs something more than an oil change or light bulb replacement, I want to tear my hair out because I know I will have to spend more time and money than I want to in order to get the problem fixed. When I called AutoScandia about a prolonged problem my car had been having, I was beyond frustrated and just needed a mechanic who could really listen to the problem and actually fix it. Our mechanic retired (which we took very hard) so I asked around on social media and looked at Yelp reviews and decided to try Auto Scandia. We have 4 old cars so we're a mechanic's dream customer. Hybrids are tricky and you can't take one to just any mechanic--yet you hate to have to pay dealer prices for repair work. We took our Prius to Glenn and with 275,000 miles on it he got it running like a new car again! We've never had a mechanic call to check on things the next day. I always take my BMW here for repairs ever since a friend recommended it 4 years ago. They are honest, competent, and fast. The office staff are super friendly, and have a nice waiting room with coffee/tea. Recently I have a coolant leak and due to safety concern I drove to a nearby repair shop for repair. When I had questions about the quote, I called AutoScandia and spoke to Zack. Zack is very knowledgable and very kind. He explain how they work to identify problem and give me a quote. I just got off the phone with "Dan" wanting to schedule an appointment to remove a nail from my car's front tire. I told him I wanted to come in during lunch time and he told me all the mechanics go to lunch and he can't put me down. I hadn't even told the guy what time - could've been noon, 1pm, 11pm etc. I guess their mechanics take 2 hr lunches? I have no issues with their mechanical competence, but ... - their prices are quite a bit higher than the competition (last issue I went to them for, their price was over 40% higher than another Swedish Car mechanic's price), and more importantly... - I do not trust them any more. I'd had a couple of inklings/questions before, but kept going there because of their 'expertise'. But one time they told me a major part was bad and would absolutely fail inspection unless it was replaced -- I brought it someplace else for the inspection and not only did the car pass inspection, but when I asked them to look specifically at that part, they said there's nothing wrong with it at all. I have since then had that part looked at by 2 other mechanic shops and they have all said there's nothing wrong with the part at all. This was not a mistake or a quick estimate by AutoScandia -- it was a full conversation about what was wrong with the part and how definite it was that it'd fail inspection. Black and white. I had a vacuum leak in my brake booster. I knew I needed a new brake booster before they looked at the car. I dropped the car off stating the problem and also asked for an estimate on brakes and 2 tires. Well, they called me and gave me the huge estimate with a few other services thrown in. They wanted to mark up the part 3 times. I understand there is some markup, but this made me want to get a second opinion. This is when the man on the phone got nasty and said that I owed him $184. I asked what for and he said that was their diagnostic fee. I strongly disagreed. He said that was industry standard. I was also told to get my car off of their lot by 5pm that day. My husband was out of town, I had him call to see what the deal was, they lowered the fee to $92. I went by, paid the money and will never return. One of the owners called me that night and I declined to return his call. Update: I received an email from the owner. He was very concerned about my experience. He refunded my money and was very professional. Possibly I got a "bad apple" and I would consider using this shop in the future. read more

Update 12/28/16 - I am honestly pretty amazed at the prompt and complete response I received to this issue. Within a few hours of posting this review yesterday, I received a call from the owner, who had researched my issue, and wanted to work to find a solution for my car. He personally came out this morning and picked up my car for repair, and a few hours later I received a call that all of the tires have been inspected, remounted, and re-balanced(and replaced anything that was damaged). It ended up being some issues with the Wheel/Valve stems, so hopefully this recent fix resolves it all for good. I had my initial frustrations with the whole situation, but they have far exceeded expectations in fixing the issue. There are a million things that can go wrong with a car, much less the number of cars that come in and out every day from their shop, so the occasional issue is understandable. What set this apart is the response and attention given to make the issue right. Thanks! read more

UPDATE: the owner, Mark contacted me the same day I had an issue. The very next day he had the inspector raise my car up on the lift and all three of us took a look at my water pump leak as well as my brakes. Mark personally looked up tires for me (as we noticed a nail in my front tire while the car was on the lift), got me a replacement vehicle, and did everything in his power to make sure I knew how much they care about their customers and want them to be taken care of. Gene and Glenn were absolutely wonderful as well - phenomenal customer service, courteous and professional. They definitely made up for the mishap/miscommunication. ORIGINAL POST: I have never had a bad experience with AutoScandia prior to today. First time was a simple safety inspection and the second was an oil change. They provided me with exceptional service both times. Last week, I brought my car in to them to get the safety inspection done as well as an oil change. During the safety inspection, they found that my car's water pump had a cracked valve and that it needed to be replaced. I was informed that this service would take all day but that I would be able to pick my car up that same day so I called to schedule the service for a Friday. My car was dropped off at 0800 when they opened and since I hadn't heard from them all day, I decided to call to get an update at 1624. At 1624, they informed me that the maintenance had not even begun on my car as the part they ordered wasn't operational and that they had to order a new part (which was there at the shop). My two options were to 1. pick up my car and drop it back off Monday or 2. to leave it there over the weekend. The problem with dropping my car back off on Monday was that it would require me to be late to work yet again. The problem with me leaving it over the weekend is that the work wouldn't be complete until at least end of the day Monday and I would be without a car all weekend. So now, I'm stuck with a cracked water pump valve that should have been fixed and no way of knowing whether the work will actually get done by the end of the day Monday or if I would have to wait until later. I will no longer be going back to AutoScandia but will try to find another mechanic elsewhere. Just a note on my water pump valve "leak" - there is no residue under my car when it is parked for a long time, no warning light that comes on nor does the thermostat indicate a change in engine temperature. If anything, during the inspection, they should have mentioned my brakes which are original to my 2015 car with over 42,000 miles on it. read more

I took my 2009 Mini Cooper here to get an alignment on the wheels- BMW charges entirely too much, plus their estimated wait times are always off by hours! After dropping the car off, I got it back and it was perfect. Lovely! A few weeks later I happened to be driving in the area and couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to open my hood to refill my window washer fluid. The handy manual was at home. I was wearing a suit for work and was loath to get too curious for fear of getting dirty. I stopped into Autoscandia and asked the gentleman behind the counter if anyone could spare a few minutes to show me how to open my hood. Granted, I AM a woman, and they COULD have made some comments, but they didn't. When 2 of the Volvo guys couldn't figure it out, they went in to get the Mini "expert," who opened my hood in about 2 seconds. This was all done within about 10 mins, by 3 gentleman who knew I wasn't going to be charged for a helping hand. That, to me, is an amazing standard of quality customer service. I took my Volvo C70 here for 2 years. I encountered a problem, and Mark (the owner) called me to straighten it out (you can reach him via their website where it says to "email owner"). . He looked into the situation, and resolved it fairly and quickly. He was extremely sincere and concerned about "doing the right thing" when we spoke. As a female who isnt a "car expert" - I need to have trust in the mechanics that work on my car. After a bad experience at a local BMW service center, I needed a new mechanic. A slew of error messages on my 535i made finding one a priority. I checked reviews and contacted Auto Scandia. They provided outstanding service, in both the technical and customer care areas. Dan did a great job communicating with me and keeping me informed. Doug, the technician, provided extra quality assurance, testing the car and his repairs extensively. And keeping the defective parts to better explain the repairs. When you drive a "luxury" vehicle you know repairs are going to be expensive. Auto Scandia was not cheap but I felt like I got full value for my money. If you are looking for great service by all around nice, knowledgeable, people at the top of their field, bring your vehicle to AutoScandia. From the moment I walked in the door I was made to feel like my issue was as important to them as it was to me I had recently purchased a used Audi Q7 and tried for almost two weeks to get in touch with Chantilly Audi to set up an appointment to examine the car. A few days after purchasing the car a rattling noise developed inside the engine which through research online I determined to be a possible major Issue involving an improperly torqued bolt within the engine. I was willing to pay the outrageous labor at the dealer to have the engine pulled to preemptively head off any possible future problems but could not get in touch with anyone. After leaving several messages at both Chantilly and Tyson's Audi and not getting a call back I put the issue on the back burner for a bit. BIG MISTAKE. With less that 300 miles (accumulated by me) on an out of warranty Audi. The dreaded "Oil pump/timing gear bolt issue " that I had researched developed. A single two dollar bolt improperly torqued during production vibrated lose causing catastrophic Engine Failure. After calling Audi and demanding to speak to a service manager I was told that an engine for my vehicle would be 20,000-25,000 for parts and labor and that they would need to diagnose the problem first at a cost of 2500 to check for the bolt issue which they claimed is an unknown issue. I know VW/Audi is having major issues right now with "Dieselgate" but that is no excuse for a Luxury Brand to not return a phone call to a loyal customer. Had the service manager taken 5 minutes to return any of my messages, I would not be in the situation I am in now which brings me back to AutoScandia. AutoScandia is the polar opposite of the service I have become used to dealing with repair facilities. The shop layout and people are fantastic. There was no wait, no arrogance and no run-around and communication was excellent. When I called at the break down scene they answered the phone gave me a towing recommendation and told me to come on in. Within 1 hour of my phone call I had an appointment and was on my way over with my Audi in Tow. I walked in obviously angry at the whole situation and the gentleman behind the counter immediately asked me my name and what my issue was, listening intently to my entire experience and sympathetically letting me know that I was in good hands which I could see that I was. I was offered coffee and a soda and a form to fill out while their Audi Master Technician, Wolfgang, was paged to come out and speak to me. They handled everything exactly how you would want any repair shop to, down to the smallest detail even offering me a shuttle to wherever I needed to go. Within a day (as they promised ) they had diagnosed the issue as being a complete engine failure and loss of compression (most likely caused by the bolt as the rattling noise indicated) although there was no way to confirm 100% without pulling the engine. Wolfgang personally called me to deliver the news and my options and instead of rushing me to make a decision gave me the weekend to think about what I wanted to do and his number if I had any further questions. Their estimate for a repair was half of what Audi's was and the level of service I received alone has earned my families future business. From start to finish this is how all service businesses should be run. Great people, honest people, compassionate people , knowledgeable people, & great communication . The people that I could see, from the front desk to the Mechanics in the back, all looked happy to be there and like they genuinely enjoyed their jobs. We have been AutoScandia's clients for now nearly eighteen years. It would be an understatement if I wrote that I am likely one of, if not, the most demanding and difficult clients that they have. However, if things are done timely, correctly and well documented, they also know that we are one of those clients that will question little and not complain about the cost, while also recommend them to friends and family. No one is perfect, so it goes with AutoScandia; however, very few mechanic outfits will make you feel welcome and try to do best that they can to ensure your vehicle runs well, at the fair cost and that you feel welcome while your opinion is heard and respected. Try them, trust me you won't regret, but make sure they clearly understand who you are and what your expectations are, and don't deviate from it. I have been taking my 2009 BMW 328i to Auto Scandia now for several years. This is a first rate operation with a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Recently, I had an electrical issue with my car. I worked closely with Service Technician Scott. Scott was incredible. He took time with me to trouble shoot the issue and gave me a full readout on potential root causes for the problem. When I picked my car up, Scott walked out with me to the vehical and explained how the problem was resolved. He even provided a picture he had taken of my battery burried in the trunk so that I could see the complex wiring and how a loose connection caused my electrical issue. The a/c in my 2004 Saab went out a few weeks back. A repair shop in Alexandria wanted to replace the compressor and two other expensive parts for a total of $1600. So I went to Autoscandia and couldn't have been happier. They looked at it, refilled the freon and sent me on my way for about $160. They also put a dye in the a/c so that if there is a leak in the future, they will find it easily. It was so nice to find a repair shop that understands Saabs and isn't trying to rip off their customers. They were friendly, responsive and honest. I would highly recommend them. read more

I had an intermittent engine fault with my Audi. I've taken it to Autoscandia for other work, and always been extremely happy with their service, but this was just exceptional. Their tech, Jeremy, went way beyond the call of duty in diagnosing and solving the problem. He found a defective valve and replaced it, performed multiple tests on the vacuum lines, tested the sensors and fuel systems, and eventually tracked it down to excessive ethanol in the fuel. (14%, not 10. Shame on Exxon -- but that's another story.) He tracked down an Audi TSB that described what to do, and said that if that didn't help, the best thing to do next was to go to the dealer so they could use their specialized equipment. The amount they charged me for the repair was a fraction of what it would have been if I'd paid for all the labor hours that went into it. It took a few days to complete, but that was mostly due to delays getting the part and the fuel additives they needed. They made sure to keep me updated regularly, and they were quite apologetic that it took so long. read more

I have use AutoScandia twice now, and I have been extremely pleased with the service both times. The first time I brought my car there, it had failed the Virginia safety inspection at a gas station due to a broken part. The owner took me under my car and showed me the part, which looked broken to me. However, I wasn't comfortable getting my car repaired at this gas station, so I searched for a reputable place in Yelp, where I found AutoScandia. I brought my car in and told them what part needed replaced. They looked over the car and called me later in the day telling me that the part had some cracks but was still in good enough condition to pass inspection. What! I was amazed that a business would look over my car after I tell them a part is broken, and come back saying it wasn't. Thanks to AutoScandia, my car passed inspection and it only cost me the standard $16 plus the cost of a lightbulb that was burnt out. They didn't even charge me labor to install the light. I was throughly impressed and have switched all my car maintenance to AutoScandia. The second time I took my car to them was for factory maintenance, and they definitely saved me some money over taking it to the dealership, while still providing excellent service and professionalism. read more

Once you're inside the front area they have waters and magazines and some areas to sit which is very nice. When service is complete they will call you which is very awesome. Took my Audi TT and Audi Allroad to Autoscandia because they are very close and convenient. They did reliable work. I must say I flip flopped between them and the Audi dealer. For the most part I could save a little bit with Autoscandia but not always. Audi would send coupons and that would sometimes be enough to go to the dealer and get a free loaner. I would say overall a convenient and friendly shop to deal with and no funny business like many shops in the area. read more

Thanks so much to Glen, our service advisor, and AutoScandia for taking caring of us the other day. My GMC Acadia has had the Check Engine light on for some time. I brought it to other places and they could never figure out exactly what was wrong with it. Basically, they reset everything and said it was fixed! Of course it always came back on. Within hours of a Diagnostic at AutoScandia, they determined it was a Purge Valve that needed to be replaced. They quoted me a price for the part and labor and then later, it was determined we could use a less expensive part, they used that one instead and lowered my total cost. Very honest, very helpful. No wonder your parking lot is always full. Thank you so much!!! UPDATE: Had to get Emissions tested to register my car, so of course I returned to AutoScandia to get this done after they did such a wonderful job replacing my GMC Acadia Purge Valve. There are only a few times that a non-savy car person can feel really confident about taking his/her car to a mechanic. This was one of those times. Completely accurate assessment of my Audi's igniter problem (this was my 2nd opinion). They got the part in and had an Audi computer onsite to complete the job. It was not cheap, but it was less expensive than the first mechanic. Very friendly staff. Shuttle available to take you home (local) or to Reston Town-center run by the nicest man ever (Gomez). I can't speak highly enough about the professionalism of the Autoscandia staff and the quality of their mechanic work. I have brought my 1995 BMW 540i to them on a half dozen occasions over the past year and each time they have been careful to take only the best care of it, to adhere to the agreed-upon mechanic work, and to proactively notify me should the car have any other ailments that might need my attention in the future. I had to stop by autoscandia for an inspection and a tire plug. Rolled in, walked right up to the counter where the staff immediately helped me and took the keys. Half an hour later I had full tires and an inspection sticker good as new. Considering my other recent auto shop experience had me stuck in a small, nasty building for about eternity, being able to get in and out and done with no trouble on a Friday afternoon was an absolute joy. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! After this COLD snow storm yesterday, I had spent over an hour "digging out" of my complex and on the road when my tire light came on saying ALL my tires were low and the way the BMW console words it to stop and get it checked immediately, I was in a panic!!! Almost in tears I pulled up to Auto Scandia at 7:20 a.m. to find out the office didn't open until 8 a.m. I saw a gentleman outside on the side having a cigarette and I asked him if there was any way I could put air in my tires. He immediately told me to pull up to the garage and he would open it for me. Never once did he make me feel like I was bothering him! I get in the garage and start to use my "inaccurate" tire gauge thinking I would put the air in my tires myself. Another gentleman had the air line in his hand with the tire gauge and immediately started helping me fill all four tires. He said the air was very low and he even reset my console and told me as soon as I get out and turn the corner, the light would go off. Sure enough, he was right!. I told him I would come back when the office is open to pay them, and he said to me to just be careful on the roads and no charge. I could not believe the service, professionalism, and outright kindness of the folks at Auto Scandia!!! Thank you a MILLION times over for helping me. I was so nervous and upset about the tire light coming on and trying to drive on the icy roads that were not plowed well at all, and you went "above and beyond" to help me. Since this place is right down the street from where I work, and is highly recommended by a number of my co-workers, I've had them do a few things for me, even though I usually go to a shop near my house. The service has been good - no problems at all, but their prices are a bit on the high side. Not way out of line, but above the median. However, for this area, they are in the normal range, I suspect. I would not hesitate to use them again. read more
