Short story long...I woke Wednesday to a dead battery in my car and called AAA for a jump. The guy tested my battery and told me I needed a new one but said it's not totally done for and that it can be jumped. He quoted me a replacement battery at $264 and some change which seemed like a crazy high price (granted I have not had to buy a new battery since my last car and so it's been many years) I figured I could get one cheaper and get someone to put it in and the guy said to text him and he would come back and do it for $60 (my SUV has a hard to reach battery because it's tucked back under a piece of plastic not right in front like my old SUV) I got my jump and headed up to Poway (where I was headed that morning) asked my mom who lives in the area to make a few calls while I was driving up so I could maybe get it taken care of first thing. One shop quoted $300 for battery and install (that was a wake up call) when she called Auto Zone Sergio said my battery was $200 and he could do install it for me. Let me tell you while my car battery was not crazy hard to change (don't need a mechanic but do need to know a socket wrench from a screw driver) it was a lot more then just removing a battery and placing a new one in its place there was parts to remove and get out of the way first. I bought my battery here about two years ago, and a couple of months later I returned because it was running low. They replaced it without any issues, including installation. Today (5/29), I came back to charge it since its already running low, but the employee refused, saying it was too complicated and that I needed to go to a shop instead. I'm very disappointed with the service and won't be coming back. Why offer this service if it's not actually provided? Terrible experience. read more

I have been a customer of Autozone for 30 years. The Poway location's desk help has deteriorated a lot over the past two years. In my most recent visit (no lines two people at the front), I asked where a product was-they pointed to the back of the store and said "back there" and walked away, when I found it, there were two bottles....I asked if they could check to see if there was any in the back, they said "That's what we got", and started ringing me up. I asked about the status of my Autozone points, got ignored. I was pleasant, asked each question politely a couple of time. It was clear that I was bothering them or they had no interest in helping or checking anything. People like this SHOULD be replaced by auto checkout machines. FIRE customer service people who are not there to be customer service people. The manager (when I asked for one) walked into the back and I did not see him again. WOW. Maybe Amazon or ebay deserves my business--at least they do not pretend to have people there to help. read more

I came in at about 650pm this evening and talked to a gentleman in a gray shirt with face piercings about possibly needing a new battery. He sat there for a second and said "okay" in a "what's your point" kind of a tone. So I said ok well so I either need a new battery or, maybe it can be charged? Can the battery be charged? Again with the lowest of energy he looks at me and says "I mean maybe I don't know, is it in the truck?" I said yeah the battery I need charged is in my truck. He lazily got up out of his chair and said "well I don't know, I mean if it's installed....." At that point I cut him off because he obviously did not want to be bothered with my issue. I said alright well look I'm obviously putting you out, so I'll just go somewhere else. He muttered something as I left......just the worst example of customer service. When you speak to people in a bothered tone it's 100% off putting and I really didn't appreciate being made to feel like a bother for coming in and asking for services you provide. I came to the auto zone closer to my home and they took care of me with no issues and more importantly, no tones. read more

In the age of internet and social media, I'm amazed that the folks who run this location think they can scam someone and get away with it. Shadiest people I've ever dealt with. To be clear, AutoZone is a great company and their customer service handled my complaint like professionals. The folks who operate this store is the opposite of that. I placed an online order for windshield wipers and this store was supposed to fulfill it but they didn't have one in stock. They called me beforehand, explained the situation and told me they would have it in stock the next day. I understood the situation, small mistake with their inventory system, no big deal. I said fine. When I asked if they would deliver it once it's ready they said no. Again, no big deal because they delivered what they had in stock. I couldn't get to the store because of work, so asked my wife to pick it up since she was making a trip that way. The person at the store told her my ONLINE order wasn't paid for and made her pay AGAIN. She couldn't get ahold of me because I was in a meeting so she didn't argue and paid. She texted me about what happened, so I thought that maybe they credited me when they didn't deliver the item that was out of stock. I checked my statement and saw I was fully charged and there was no credit. These folks at this location have no integrity. I was able to issue a complaint with customer service and after sending a picture of the receipt for the double charge, they responded right away and refunded me. read more

Do your own research before buying wiper replacement blades. The lady who helped me was really nice but she sold me the wrong size. My car takes two different lengths. She got one right, but the other one is wrong and for the older model of my car. She never asked me the year of my car. I can deal with it until these wear out but will know better next time. My Wife was driving her vehicle when it broke down. I drove out to the vehicle to see if I could find out what happened. It appears her battery was dead and she needed a new one. I looked up my local AutoZone in the city of Poway, California, and noticed that there was only five minutes left before they closed. I was about 5 to 6 minutes away from the store, so I called to see if someone could stick around in the event I'm a minute or two late to get a new battery for my wife's car that was stuck on the side of the road. A young male answered, and I asked if i could be assured that someone would be there, even if I was a minute late. He proceeded to tell me no. I explained my situation to him, that my wife was stuck on the side of a 55 mph road and he hung up the phone on me. When I called back, the phone was disconnected. When you need that little bit of extra attention in your time of need, that personal touch, don't call AutoZone in Poway. They should be embarrassed. In my time of need, they failed. I will never spend a dime there again and neither should you. read more

I was having issues with my car starting recently and chose to take it by AutoZone Poway for diagnostic tests. Virginia helped me go through the process of figuring out where the problem originated (battery vs. alternator vs. starter). She even used two different tools just to be sure. Thankfully, it was a bad battery. She helped me get the right one and recommended some products to help this battery last longer. She was super friendly and knowledgeable, didn't mind me asking questions or wanting clarification. She also did some extra cleaning around the battery! After everything was installed Becky came by to ensure everything was running in top shape before sending me on my way. Above and beyond service from these two! The AutoZones where I live are eager to help and always go above and beyond, so I was surprised that not all AutoZones have that same attitude. I came in asking for help about identifying a blinking light. Whoever I first spoke with told me they couldn't help identify it and that I should take it to the shop. I kept trying to tell him that I thought it was for the coolant, but I just needed someone to verify. I even asked if anybody else could help me and he said they're not allowed to help. I told him that usually they'll offer a diagnostics test for free and he said he couldn't do that and again, to go into a shop and get whatever it is fixed. So, I asked a random customer and he was happy to help! It ended up being the coolant and he even helped me pick out the right one. When I went to pay, a different worker took care of me. They offered to let me borrow a funnel and were super helpful (the only reason why I'm keeping the 3 stars). I would've taken it in to the shop and paid all of this unnecessary money for something I was able to myself for $20. read more

Bad customer service, overly confident young man named Ben asked how he could help. I needed a small battery for a key fob. He asked what kind of car, I said it was for a motorhome. He followed with what kind of chassis? I wasn't sure why that mattered, but told him. He quickly responded we don't carry it. I went to walk away and noticed some batteries, and there was the battery I was looking for. AutoZone stocks a large variety of parts like brake pads, rotors, starters and alternators for various makes and models. Most of these are from their Duralast house brand. If you can't find it in the store you can most likely order it on their website. However prices are higher than most online retailers but I suppose you're paying for the convenience and accessibility. From my experience their customer service is good but not anything overly exceptional. Sometimes you have to wait a really long time to check out. I have heard that they will install windshield wipers you purchase from them but I haven't ever done that. One super convenient service they offer is free tool rentals. You are required to pay full price for the tool but once you return it within 90 days at any AutoZone location, you get a full refund. This is a great option for when you're doing repairs that require specialized tools that you won't ever use again. Additionally you can dispose of used engine oil here. However, sometimes their used oil container is full and they won't accept anymore until it is emptied. read more

Bad customer service. On 9/10/23 I went to get a battery. A person in training took care of it with no supervision. I asked for the top level quality and I was given slightly above quality battery. No one checked that he selected the correct item. Two weeks later my car died completely in the middle of nowhere - mind you I have a brand new alternator. I called AAA. The battery was installed so poorly that it was moving all over the place and the connection got loose. It looks like older women don't get good service at all but Never going back to that place. read more

The old battery was so corroded the cable was stuck on, but he took time to clean it, spray some erosion cleaner on, and everything till it finally came off and he could put the new one in! Big kudos to Scott G at this AutoZone location. He was so helpful. We drove our 2016 Kia Soul+ here after a jump start and Scott came out, tested the battery, starter and alternator for us. He said he could replace the battery for us right then and there if it was in stock and provided a ballpark quote for a refurbished alternator. They didn't have the battery required so Scott called another location and secured one for me. He also provided me with the names of a couple of mobile mechanics for the alternator issue.
