I came in on 08/19/22 (on a bike!) to buy a replacement fuse. It became necessary to come back with the car (fair enough) and a while before the corroded old fuse could be removed and we could figure out the unusual size needed. They warm up also, after you are a decent person to them! The employees there, especially Diondra Z., were very helpful and proactive. It was a positive experience, and I reccomend them. A note to anyone who gave them a recent negaive review: the employees want to go out to your car and help you with general stuff, but it's not fair to expect them to be dealer-trained specialist mechanics for your make and model!! read more

Two people were inside. One person had an attitude about helping me, and the other one went to the back to take a personal call. The one helping me insisted on looking at my car and kept second-guessing everything I told him (car year, make, model etc). Then he refused to help me out windshield wiper blades on my car even though the store was completely empty. He said he wouldn't know how because he hadn't use this particular brand before. I've come to this location in the past specifically for help and this was a huge waste of my time. Also, the store reeked of urine. -3 stars for the disrespect and belittling -1 star for refusing to help in an impolite way I used to recommend this location to friends, but I won't be doing that anymore. I also will not return unless I'm desperate. There are many other stores that are either willing to be helpful or are polite or both. read more

I don't think I've ever had a good experience in this store. I went in today to see if they had an item I needed. I had checked the website to make sure what I needed was in stock. Like others have said, I was basically ignored, never greeted, etc., but I wandered around looking for the item. I couldn't find what I was looking for. While I was walking around, another customer was being helped by an employee, who had obviously told the customer that they didn't carry what he was looking for. The customer said, "Isn't this an auto parts store?" It made me laugh because I've come in at least five times in the past year, and not once have they had the very basic auto supplies I was looking for. I waited about 10 minutes for an employee to become available (one guy spent all that time explaining to a customer how to get to a different auto parts store... that doesn't inspire confidence). I showed the employee my phone with the in-stock item I was looking for. He said they don't carry that one, but they have another one, and took me to it. I asked why the website says they have them in stock if they, in fact, don't even sell that item (there was no empty space where the item I was looking for would have been sold). He said, "our website and our inventory system sucks. They need to fix it. I think they're working on it, but it just sucks." Then he walked off. The item that he showed me wasn't the same as what I needed. Once again, I left Auto Zone empty handed. And it WILL be the last time. There's an O'Reilly's a short 10 minute drive through beautiful Como Park, where I know I will be able to find what I need and not be treated as an inconvenience. read more

Early on a recent Saturday morning, I stopped in to ask if they offered *free* auto computer scans because a few days earlier I'd experienced severe engine misfiring along with a flashing "check engine" light that became a steady light. When I pulled into their parking lot, a guy was already outside with that device (computer scanner) and he was just finishing up with another customer. I told him what had happened and he plugged his device into my car to read the code and, as a courtesy, he cleared things so that the check engine light was off. We continued chatting about automotive-related things, and after sharing with him some info about the fuel I use in my car, he made a suggestion which lead me to buy a product that may have some benefit to my fuel system. "Jonathan" was great to work with, and I hope he's there again when I need to return. I returned last week for a new light bulb for my tail light. Although Jonathan wasn't working, another guy helped me select the right bulb and even with its installation since I'd been unable to remove the burned out bulb. Now I know that to remove a bulb, you have to push it in and then turn it to the left. Easy as pie. My recent experiences are such that I'd highly recommend them for their customer service alone. read more

Their manager is a royal a-hole. I wish I took the time to figure out his name. I was so caught off guard, I didn't know how to respond. I wish I had. A nice employee was finishing up with another customer and began assisting me. I was looking for a few random things and had a question. The guy was very enthusiastic and motivated - your ideal customer service employee, right? Well, apparently the manager didn't like him interacting with customers. While the employee was helping me, the manager made some rude comments to the employee and told him (fairly enough, I suppose, though still rude) "you're a delivery driver." So he told the guy to go deliver a part, leaving me stranded without service in the middle of the store. Mind you, the manager was the only person at the sales desks. I had to stand there five more minutes before another employee showed up. No manager has any excuse for acting so disrespectful to employees. And the brass balls on the guy for doing it in front of customers. I hope it made him feel big and manly. He isn't. Until that manager is gone, I'll take my business down the block to O'Reilly. I hope anyone who reads this considers doing the same. read more

This Auto Zone is where competence, quality store and helpfulness go to die. I needed a wiper blade so I asked a manager that was stocking near the wiper aisle. The nearby line had 6 people in it with 1 staff visible in the store, and nothing was moving. The manager waved at the line rather than to answer a simple question, because stocking oil is always more important than a customer. After a very long wait in line, the staff looked up the wrong part (I gave him the number and defining info)but he did not listen to me). Then said they were all out of wiper blades for a common blade (told the woman in front of me that they were out of what she wanted also) and when I told him that I saw some blades like that but I had a question (the question I had asked of the curmudgeon manager 20 minutes earlier), he responded to just go help myself (these guys are like the ultimate bad mood guys). This was the way they were acting towards all women in line who were behaving like standard customers. I was frustrated and said "Yikes, you don't carry much for product here, your customers need to know that" a voice from the area where the mute manager was said something like "well then just get out!!" This is their customer service? I wonder what their corporate office would say if someone took a video of their callous, negligent, slack, rude manner to highlight this University Ave store in St Paul? read more

This store *WILL* cheat you given the chance. I bought an 8 year warrantied battery here, it failed early and I brought it back for credit on a new battery. (I understand very well the terms of the warranty and am not looking for a freebie, just a fair exchange.) First off I encountered a strong "you are a dope, and you are wrong that your battery has failed". Hmmm, that rather ignores my 7 years in the Truck and Bussing industry and 6 years as a Coast Guard diesel mechanic. Yes indeed, it was defective, and their tester proved it. So, to make a long story short---without showing the math on yelp (how boring would that be?) the manager cheated me by adding back a core charge when I had an exchange battery and shouldn't have paid a core charge at all. He knew he had me over a barrel because he already had my old battery on the counter and I had no battery in my car at all. SO what could I do but pay it? So he blatantly cheated me out of $15, and smiled about it lying to my face that "that's how the warranty works". I honestly wonder if Executive Management has any idea what this guy is up to. Well, they are going to find out if I can help it...the store is not up to their generally decent standards. (Other Autozones have been pretty good in my experience.) Also, other reviews are correct in saying the manager is a very unpleasant person who is incredibly rude to his staff....the result shows in their attitude because they are afraid to ask for ANY help from him navigating their computer system or solving issues. Even weirder, they shout grouchily at one another and the atmosphere is exceedingly tense. They also cannot be bothered to install the battery, which most of their competitors will do gladly. I'll follow up on my review with a report from how the central office handles this. read more

Horrible service. I stood there for approximately 10 minutes, while the 3 employees were busy chatting with one customer. They were talking about the best route to get to a different Auto Zone location. They didn't acknowledge my presence. Then 2 of them dispersed and walked away without even looking at me. Thankfully Napa down the street was open and gave me excellent service. The guy even came out to look at my car! Auto Zone is horrible. read more

My first and probably last time in this store. None of the four (unoccupied) employees greeted me when I entered, nor asked me if I needed help finding anything. When I was ready to check out, two of them argued about whose turn it was to log into the cash register to take my money. There's an O'Reilly's a block away, where the employees are friendly and helpful. I'm new to St Paul, and thought that I'd give this store a chance, but I doubt I'll ever return. read more

The sad thing about this Autozone is it use to be such a wonderful environment!!! Ever since they replaced the whole staff things just haven't been the same!! They're LAZY, and act like everything you ask of them is doing too much for them. I had a young man come help me with my battery, and he did it wrong!! The terminals weren't tight enough and my car wouldn't start. I went back and told him and he shrugged as if he didn't even care smh They do have a couple great workers, but none in management!! Makes me really consider calling corporate because autozone use to be the spot everyone went to because they were so helpful and went above and beyond. Not anyone though. I also had a parts manager get an attitude with me because he wasn't trying to help ME. No wonder everyone goes to O reily across the street. I say that sadly because I hate O Reilly's lol I'd rather go to the Larpenteur location!!! MARCO IS THE GREATEST THERE!! Ask for him, he'll get you right!! read more

I walked in today to but brake pads. I already knew what I wanted and checked thier website to see that they were in stock. The guys were very polite, I told the man helping me what I wanted, gave him the car specs. He looked up the pads for my make and model. A list popped up and I could see what he was seeing. He said "The have the cheapies, and you have the higher end pads" The pads I wanted was listed and it clearly said, "in stock". I told him i wanted the "Cheapies". He went back and came back with pads. At the check out, he gave me a price that was double the price of what I asked for. I asked him why didn't grab the pads I asked for. He replied "Well these are the only ones in stock for your car"...well if that was the case, why not saying that BEFORE you rang them up and why didn't he look to see if they were in stock at another location. I still paid for them, but corporate will hear from me and I will end up getting them for free. read more

i called this place to see if they do free engine light diagnostic checks since a lot of people seem to run into bullshit with "free checks" at certain autozones. some guy named jose picked up and he mumbled into the phone with a jerky tone as if he could care less that he was speaking to a potential customer. he told me they dont do free checks until after 5 pm and hung up, so i took my car to the autozone off of nicollet in richfield instead. that autozone was great! the employees were all nice young ladies. i got my car checked for 100% free and service was very fast and helpful, i was in and out in less than 2 minutes! after how quick and easy it was there, i really wonder what the hell would keep this autozone from doing free checks until after 5 pm... that guy sounded like a lazy dick to me. hopefully the other employees there are not as bad as him!! read more
