This simple staple invented five star reviews. Friendly staff. Good food. The mood is not romantic, yet I fall in love with my wife just a little bit more every time we walk in that door!! They keep it real. Ima just share a few photos rather than blather on... Pro tip: the hot chocolate is the business!

Old-school charm, breakfast comfort, and generous portions -- Avalon Diner really said "you won't leave hungry." I ordered the Migas with crispy shoestring potatoes, and wow... flavor-packed and that crunch? Unreal. Their house salsa added the perfect kick. My partner got the Grill Cook's Medley, stacked with cheesy hashbrowns, peppers, ham, and topped with perfectly fried eggs. Service was quick, the vibes were classic retro diner (those speckled tabletops took me back), and the menu? Huge. Breakfast all day? Say less. Rating: 9/10 Would I come back? Absolutely -- next time, I'm diving into their challah French toast or a milkshake.

We were in the mood for Diner food. Never came to this place even though it's not far from us, It's a typical diner. The lady who helped us was very nice. She is new. But we think another waitress was going to initially help us, but I don't think that waitress liked me for whatever reason. When she came over she just stared at me without saying anything. I smiled and said Hi. Then she spoke. Not sure what that was about from a service stand point. Just thought I'd share. Our favorite items were the broccoli casserole & the banana caramel French toast. Their fresh lemonade wasn't bad. If you want options and typical diner food, but you aren't in the mood for ihop or dennys, this is actually decent option. We weren't blown away, but we didn't dislike it. They do have some old school Ms pac man and other classic games to play inside.

Great tasting food, small diner vibes, friendly staff. However our service was slow during our visit, that's really the only negative i can give this spot.

Substandard service. My sister and I took our mother for lunch today. When the waiter came to take our order, my mom told him all she wanted was a chocolate malt and no food. He said they were out of chocolate and she said, a vanilla malt was fine. My sister and I ordered a burger and onion rings to share. The waiter brings the burger and onion rings but doesn't bring her malt, then he just leaves and doesn't return with her malt. I finally see the guy and waved him over and told him that she didn't receive her malt. And he said "Oh you wanted a malt? Vanilla, right?" Then he takes a long time before he even starts to make it and never apologized for the delay. He never came back to see if we needed anything. My sister had to go and request a to-go cup. Then it took a very long time for him to bring the check. I went to pay and stood at the register and no one ever came. I left some cash on the counter with the check and because I didn't get change, the waiter ended up with a 23% tip. The burger was really good. Onion rings were good but kind of Luke warm.

Love this place for Breakfast and lunch. The Buffalo tenders were delicious!! The sauce wasn't too vinegar-y, but had a lot of flavor. I like them better than most wing places.

Not to be confused with the songs Avalon by Roxy Music or Tom's Diner by Suzanne Viva-Las-Vega. It's a pretty standard diner located at the massive plaza where we like to go shopping in Stafford which is called The Fountains, just off the south end of the main shopping area, and it doesn't get too busy. It's not rocket science so to speak, but they do pretty good food, chicken fried steaks and such, and it's a lot better than Denny's or IHOP, and the prices are comparable, so I can't really give them less than a four star - especially considering they're a local place. I upped it to 5 because the only time we've been here in the last 2 years, the service was wonderful.

I got the 1938 Original Hamburger w/ Swiss cheese and crispy bacon and it was bomb !! I would highly recommend trying

This little diner of the side of the highway was absolutely perfect for our family. We were driving early in the morning and needed a bite for breakfast. I ordered the corn beef hash and eggs and the corn beef was great. I also got a hot chocolate that was nothing special but was still very good. The ambiance was super well themed with all sorts of things from the 60s and 70s. The waiter was super friendly and the food came out super quick. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because the eggs were a little under done. Over all, I very much enjoyed my experience and will be returning.

The concept was built around hearty comfort food, large portions, and a family-friendly mountain-lodge atmosphere. As of 2026, that means the chain has been operating for about 31 years. The company has grown from a single diner in Northern California to more than 150 locations across multiple states. Out of the gate we waited to be sat with an empty restaurant. Once sat we waited about 5 minutes for drink order. Placed order for fried chicken (they were out!) and open face turkey. Switched to blackened salmon. With baked potato / salad xtra seasoned veggies. This is a neat atmosphere and you really wanted this meal to be good so you could return but unfortunately, it just was a miss. The baked potato was not fully cooked, so it was very difficult even to cut it in half. I'm not sure what happened on the season vegetables, but they were literally burnt so I'm not sure if they saute them after they flash boil them? So the broccoli was burnt and mushy, and the carrots were hard as a rock. The portion size was very large, except for the salmon, which was about 5 ounces. The menu called for it to be blackened, but there was very little if any seasoning on it at all, and certainly it was not blackened. Turning attention to the turkey plate, it was not nicely carved in the ocean slices of turkey rather it looked like pulled apart, sandwich meat on not so high-quality white bread. I definitely think there's a lot of room for improvement, but it's a risk given so many restaurants in the general area to stop back. Del was our server. He was very polite and did a good job.

There was plenty of room for pups to spread out, and I saw dogs enjoying themselves both outside and inside the restaurant. It felt like everyone was welcome. Naturally, I ordered from the Pup Menu. I chose the grilled chicken and rice bowl, and I can confidently report that it was excellent. Fresh, simple, and completely disappeared within minutes. The humans seemed happy with their meals too. They ordered a strip steak, salmon, and a salad, and I didn't hear a single complaint from their side of the table. The staff were incredibly friendly and made a point of welcoming me as an actual guest instead of just someone's dog. Between the dedicated dog menu, the spacious patio, and the warm service, it's easy to see why this place is so popular with pet owners. If you're visiting Houston with your dog, Lazy Dog is an easy recommendation. Dogba's verdict: Five paws. Excellent chicken. Outstanding customer service. My wife and I have been to WC several times before for lunch, happy hour, and dinner but this was our first time for brunch. We had 1pm reservations and the sky looked like it was going to pour down ran any moment. Our hostess was very kind and let us pick the table we wished to sit in order to get a good view of the bar and windows to keep an eye on the weather and the arrival of our family members. Our server, Dane, was in top form and gave us suggestions for a starter. We were torn between the Jalapeno-gouda biscuits, Candied Bacon and other tasty sounding dishes and quickly agreed the Goat Cheese Fondue. The dish arrived shortly after our whole party was seated. Dane had great presentation as he drizzled olive oil over the steamy, bubbling cheese dish that looked amazing, smelled wonderful, and tasted even better. Melted goat goat cheese with a blend of olives, roasted tomatoes, garlic confit and thyme that we generously spread over warm toast points. It was all devoured in no time. Dane returned to clear our plates and took our order. The brunch menu is an exploration in so many things to suit your breakfast or lunch craving. We ordered the Strawberry Short Stack, the Hangover Burger, Brunch Sandwich, and the Steak and Egg Hash. Out of curiosity we also ordered a side of the Green Chile Cheese Grits. My wife and I love to share so the Strawberry Short Stack and Brunch Sandwich were perfect for dividing. Those pancakes are picture perfect, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet. Interestingly, Dane had asked if we wanted the toppings of strawberry compote, vanilla anglaise, whipped strawberry butter, and lemon shortbread crumble on the side so we could control the sweetness. For us that was the perfect suggestion as we were able to individually taste each accoutrement to build our perfect bite. The Brunch Sandwich was fantastic. Sometimes a breakfast sandwich can appear to be unwieldy but in this case it was manageable to cut in half and handle appropriately, The everything bagel was the right vehicle for this savory bite of fried-medium egg, layered with applewood smoked bacon, pickled Fresno peppers (for nice pop of spice), greens, american cheese, and a garlic-basil aioli. I didn't taste the Hangover Burger nor the Steak and Egg Hash, perhaps because I was a bit gorged on the pancakes and sandwich but the dishes looked amazing and I have a mental shortlist for the next time we dine at WC. Oh, and I did mention that we were curious about the Green Chile Cheese Grits. Out of this world! Those grits stole the show. We all kept commenting on them. Get them. You will be rewarded. When we dine we always expect good food. For us, service is the reason to come back. Dane was an outstanding server. He had personality and hospitality which is rare these days. He was conversationally engaging. He never lingered too long, always seemed to anticipate what we might need, politely asking to clear plates. Hat's off to Dane. Thank you Whiskey Cake for delivering a great dining experience to kick-off Father's Day weekend. We will be back.
