We were in the mood for Diner food. Never came to this place even though it's not far from us, It's a typical diner. The lady who helped us was very nice. She is new. But we think another waitress was going to initially help us, but I don't think that waitress liked me for whatever reason. When she came over she just stared at me without saying anything. I smiled and said Hi. Then she spoke. Not sure what that was about from a service stand point. Just thought I'd share. Our favorite items were the broccoli casserole & the banana caramel French toast. Their fresh lemonade wasn't bad. If you want options and typical diner food, but you aren't in the mood for ihop or dennys, this is actually decent option. We weren't blown away, but we didn't dislike it. Substandard service. My sister and I took our mother for lunch today. When the waiter came to take our order, my mom told him all she wanted was a chocolate malt and no food. He said they were out of chocolate and she said, a vanilla malt was fine. My sister and I ordered a burger and onion rings to share. The waiter brings the burger and onion rings but doesn't bring her malt, then he just leaves and doesn't return with her malt. I finally see the guy and waved him over and told him that she didn't receive her malt. And he said "Oh you wanted a malt? Vanilla, right?" Then he takes a long time before he even starts to make it and never apologized for the delay. He never came back to see if we needed anything. My sister had to go and request a to-go cup. Then it took a very long time for him to bring the check. I went to pay and stood at the register and no one ever came. I left some cash on the counter with the check and because I didn't get change, the waiter ended up with a 23% tip. The burger was really good. Onion rings were good but kind of Luke warm. read more

Not to be confused with the songs Avalon by Roxy Music or Tom's Diner by Suzanne Viva-Las-Vega. It's a pretty standard diner located at the massive plaza where we like to go shopping in Stafford which is called The Fountains, just off the south end of the main shopping area, and it doesn't get too busy. It's not rocket science so to speak, but they do pretty good food, chicken fried steaks and such, and it's a lot better than Denny's or IHOP, and the prices are comparable, so I can't really give them less than a four star - especially considering they're a local place. I upped it to 5 because the only time we've been here in the last 2 years, the service was wonderful. read more

I called in to the Stafford location and the guy gave me an attitude right away asking if I went to a specific school and I said no and he still had a bad attitude he didn't want to tell me the total of my food and when I went to pay I tried to pay with tap " he said I see you playing with your phone but we don't accept tap" which is okay but it was his attitude the whole time I didn't leave a tip because why am I going to leave a tip to someone who is rude during the whole process and with that being said he was more rude just because I didn't leave a tip. I'm pretty sure he overcharged me as well because he refused to tell me how much my total was after asking multiple times only when he charged me is when he told me and the food was not that good as well they gave us such a poor excuse of a plate. Good little place for breakfast or lunch. Haven't tried the dinner. I walked right in early one morning. Found a table by the bar and grabbed my own seat. Was greeted quickly by a waiter before he attended to another client. Came back with paper menu and water. Ordered my coffee and already knew what I wanted so placed my order. Had a terrible experience. I arrived at 3:30pm. Could not order any blueplate specials. Was told they stop serving those at 3 o'clock. It does not specify that on the venue and I've been there before and not had a problem. Also, they were busy cleaning, so I seated myself and had to ask for a menu. This little diner of the side of the highway was absolutely perfect for our family. We were driving early in the morning and needed a bite for breakfast. I ordered the corn beef hash and eggs and the corn beef was great. I also got a hot chocolate that was nothing special but was still very good. The ambiance was super well themed with all sorts of things from the 60s and 70s. The waiter was super friendly and the food came out super quick. This location has friendly engaging staff (special mention to Adrianne .. think that's the correct spelling..? and an older black gentleman are so nice and friendly). The food is good, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We enjoy going there and highly recommend it to others. ** just a quick note to MANAGER/OWNER... Two small ..but important things.. sometimes upon entering there is a certain smell in the air like perhaps... restroom odor or something. The other is the men's restroom frequently needs attention. On our most recent visit, when using the restroom, the paper towel dispenser was coming loose from the wall and was in need of being refilled, and the order of urine was rather strong. Noted the urinal flush handle was un- operational so this may be the source of the smells. might want to check that all aspects of the ladies restroom are clean well-stocked and toilets, sinks etc are functioning. These comments are not meant to be a criticism, but to rely observations from the customer's perspective to assist in making a positive impression by all. Another old favorite working back in the Sugarland/Stafford area. It a nice diner in the strip mall with lot of variety of food with other watery spots. Since I don't live in this area I have only visited Avalon for lunch. I have tried the the club sandwich burger, turkey burger and salad, never had a complaint about the food. The staff is very nice and pleasant. During lunch service is quick. I have never experienced a breakfast or a dinner at here. That will have to be my next experience. read more

The Stafford location scammed us today. The "owner" has no business being in customer service if she's going to treat guests the way we were treated. Small issue with the kitchen messing up my order which the waitress didn't catch but when I voiced to her the problem, I told her it wasn't a big deal even though she offered to have the cook re-make it (I didn't want to wait for my meal any longer). The major issue is they over charged my credit card. The waitress gave us our check, I gave her my credit card and when she returned, I noticed the amount she charged was higher than the amount of the check. I thought that maybe there was a credit card surcharge but when I calculated the difference, it came out to about 5% and I knew that most surcharges are up to 3% so I asked the waitress. She said the "cook" told her she undercharged so she just charged what she was told to, no explanation to us beforehand. I explained that she presented a bill and we should have been charged that amount. It was then explained the menu price had changed but again, I said the check was presented and that the amount of the check should have been charged. The "owner" refused to honor the original amount. Bait and switch, poor customer service, and what a bad decision that they would lose a long time customer over this. The right thing to do would have been for the "owner" to apologize for the mistake, explain she would honor the original price but next time the new price would be charged. I'll NEVER return which is a shame because the "owner" mis-handled this. We really did enjoy the food here and the waitstaff is usually very nice and prompt but there are many more honest restaurants in town. Happy New Year! read more

I haven't visited Avalon dinner in a while but I stopped by recently to try their burgers and it was delicious! The portion sizes were super filling and better than most burger places. I used to come here for the breakfast but I'm so glad I tried out their lunch! Their frito pie chili bowl was also delicious and the service was fast and attentive. Happened upon this diner because my normal place was packed. It's a medium sized diner that has been here for quite a long time. Grabbed a table in the back and took a look at the menu. Breakfast and Lunch all day, that's a plus already. Decided to go with the Chili Cheese Omelette with a side of hash browns. Had one pancake on the side. The omelette was superb, the chili had a great taste and the eggs were nice and fluffy. The pancake was perfect as far as pancakes go, fluffy and held together beautifully. The servers were attentive and super nice. I would definitely come back anytime. read more

This place used to be "the spot" in the area for a great breakfast with friendly service. Unfortunately, things have gone downhill as of late. You used to see the same amazing friendly waitstaff who would always greet you pleasantly. Now it's a revolving door of new faces that are not friendly and don't seem to care. Portion quality, size and presentation have decreased. This morning I went in -No greeting nothing. My waiter never said a word to me. Waitstaff seemed more busy talking to each other then tending to customers. Never got refills despite requests. Had to wait for check - asked twice. Finally got up and waited at the cash register for another 5 minutes. I could understand if the place was packed. But it was 8 am and hardly anyone in there. That should have told me everything. Had the english muffin breakfast, ham with hot tea. Everything was good. The breakfast also included avacado, tomato, artichokes, and olives. LiptonTea was decent. The string fries was actually hasbrown which was a different twist. Waitress was really nice and even offered to pack my tea to go. The decorations inside the restaurant were authentic even though from the outside it looks new. There is plenty of parking area outside. Yuck! Nasty! Dirty! Messy! Don't go here. The husband and I went here for dinner and we truly experienced the greasy side of the dirty spoon, fork, and knife. From the moment we walked in, we should have just high tailed it out of there. The floor was wet and messy. Every booth we came to had food on the seats or the table. Most of the tables had already been 'bussed' but I guess 'cleaning' isn't really part of that. We settled into a booth toward the back. mistake. We ended up near a fan they had to set up because the A/C wasn't working well. We also ended up near a cart that they just left there full of dirty dishes. Ok, so we were tired and decided to just stay. We ordered from our pleasant waitress. She explained that 'everyone had just left'.. I think meaning the staff. We weren't in a hurry and said it was fine. We got our sodas and waited for our food. It came and it wasn't as ordered (I asked for no tomato but got it anyway). My husband enjoyed his Philly chicken cheese steak sandwich even though it was dripping in grease. My fried chicken sandwich (don't judge, we all like fried sometimes) was just OK. Ok, so do you like ketchup with your fries? Sure you do. Well, I opened the ketchup bottle on our table and it had all this old ketchup grime on the top. NASTY! It looked like it had been there since the 50s. My husband grabbed one from the next table. SAME THING! We noticed that the bottles had obviously been emptied by patrons and then refilled because you could see different colors of ketchup with lines, layers, and bubbles throughout. (Isn't that against health code??) So, I asked the waitress for another bottle. She happily obliged and brought another. This 3rd bottle had obviously just been cleaned, but still obviously had been emptied and refilled in the past. Our service was fine throughout the meal. We won't be back.
