We like to support small business so my husband and I tried this place out. The servers were nice so the star is for them. After watching 4 other couples that came in after us being served we inquired about our food that we could see just sitting in the window. When it was brought out the biscuits and gravy I ordered was at best luke warm. The gravy was disgusting, bland and tasted like flour. Little advice for them use sausage drippings unless what you served me was prepackaged. I took 2 bites and pushed it to the side, not 1 server or the manager noticed my full plate of food nor did they ask if something was wrong. That's poor customer service in my book. Simply amazing! We are down from Pennsylvania and stopped in. We were not disappointed. The staff was so welcoming and attentive even though they were extremely busy. The food was made just how we asked and we had a few special request. My sister had the pork chop and eggs which I was very impressed with. All around great place. Moved near this restaurant a few months ago and gave it a try. It's very small but has outdoor dining, and it has a nice vibe. Very friendly and personable staff. I kept it basic with a Denver Omelette and Hash Browns and it was very good. They have specialties on their menu which looked great and next time in I'll try their pancakes. read more

Stopped by Avalon Diner last weekend on a Sunday and really enjoyed it. It was by no means the best breakfast I've ever had; however, it was a good fix for a lazy morning. The coffee was great. Finally found a local, non chain diner in my general area. Cute, cozy interior with friendly staff. Challah bread French toast and New York bagels made my day. Also they make a very good cheese omelet! The breakfast menu isn't extensive but there are plenty of options and the prices are reasonable. We will be back! read more

First of all, shout out to Linda! I don't go here often enough to be considered a regular, but I've been a few times. There are other (good) diners closer to me, but I go the extra distance to the Avalon Diner. This is a place where you can get real comfort food which is prepared well, served hot (or cold, as is appropriate) and consistently delights. However, it's the service which truly rises above. Case in point ... last week a friend visiting from PA stopped in with me for breakfast. Happened to be the morning when "chipped beef on toast" was the special. Ah, such memories. Great food and great service. Today we also stopped in ... Linda remembered us from last week, as well that we had the chipped beef and cautioned it wasn't available today (but will be tomorrow). I had a Greek omelette with biscuit and sausage gravy. Absolutely delectable! So ... if you are looking for a relaxing, satisfying meal where you will be pampered, stop in at the Avalon. We have had this diner on our radar for a bit and it was finally time to go check it out. We walked in and got the last table on an Sunday morning. We all ordered omelets and everything we had was tasty and there were no issues. The biggest thing we noticed is that it wasn't anything really different than what you can make from home. Very good, very clean but just not anything different or that stood out. Some variations or creations may take this place up a notch. Found this little gem by my house, Avalon diner is absolutely amazing!!! I had the eggs Benedict with the house potatos and they were amazing. In response to comments below regarding an incident involving children, I was there that day enjoying breakfast and that is not at all what happened. A family came in with two children that were very miss behaved running around from the beginning, interrupting service flow with the wait staff and causing challenges. The children began running around the table and jumping up-and-down making a lot of noise. Nobody in the party of 10 including the parents said anything to the children or try to control them, finally an older gentleman with his wife were sitting at a table right where the children were and he raised his voice to the children telling them to stop making a ruckus and calm down. the father became very angry who then stood up waving his finger using the words "Jesus Christ" chill out I will handle it don't talk to my children that way. He continued to stand and posture himself looking at the older gentleman across the table raising his voice. One of the owners went over to the table and asked him to please calm down and he continued to raise his voice and become very angry. In the end the owner asked them to please leave the restaurant as they were being completely disruptive along with the children. In my opinion the owner did the right thing as I am tired of going out to restaurants where children are very misbehaved and the parents feel they do not need to parent their children or discipline them allowing them to run freely around the restaurant and other customers. After the family stormed out very upset everybody in the diner was thankful of the owners decision and thanked them as they definitely did the right thing not allowing such behavior in their business to spoil the experience of their other guest. Unfortunately this is just another example of parents not taking ownership of their poor parenting and not holding their children accountable. If that was me when I was a child we would've been out in the car and we would never have been brought back out to eat dinner again until we could learn to behave ourselves. I will continue to frequent the Avalon diner, there always warm, welcoming and have wonderful service and food. And in the end all they ask is just like any guest coming to your home that you behave yourself and do not disrupt the peace of others around you. read more

Avalon Diner: Change is not always good. Avalon Diner is now under new ownership. Already I miss Mike and his welcoming greeting in the morning. I miss his watchful eye over the staff and all his guests. Gone are the days when the staff looked after every table, even when they were not ultimately responsible for that set of customers. Gone are the smiles and that feeling that each customer is important. In its place is an owner who did not greet a single guest while we ate our flavorless food. Now you have to find someone to refill your coffee which felt like an imposition. Servers with their hair hanging in front of their shoulders that added to the overall sloppy appearances of the staff. Plates and cups left on the tables long after the food and drinks were gone. And my all time pet peeve, long before closing time, with four tables still in the restaurant, the staff started moving the chairs and tables, and sweeping the floor. They brought our cartons from the back to the tables and started refilling the jelly and sweeteners for the next day. Ok, I got the message. You want me out. Well, I was out 15 minutes before your posted closing time and I will not come back. Good luck to the NEW Avalon Diner and I am off to look for another restaurant who has an owner that might appreciate their customers a bit more. read more

You will like the Avalon Diner. The food is good and the service is fast. This place is clean and welcoming. We have only stopped in for breakfast and have a great experience each time. I honestly think that it would be difficult to have anything go wrong because the owner welcomes you at the door and clearly hovers over the operation like a parent watching his small child. The goal is for everyone to have a great, hot meal in a relaxed diner setting. My only suggestion is for the owner to consider a more home style recipe for his sausage gravy. We are southerners and sausage biscuit gravy is a breakfast must have. Their recipe is pretty bland. read more

Some friends and I ventured to Avalon Diner today for lunch. We've been there before and enjoyed the food. The service, however, is a little lacking. Our server was nice but we did have some slight issues. Before ordering, I had mentioned to a friend that I was pretty sure that the chicken salad had egg in it. She said she would ask because she hates egg. She asked our server and he replied "Ummm. No, I don't think so." If you don't know, you should find out. Sure enough, when we got the chicken salad, there was egg in it. Honestly, she didn't even notice, but if she had been asking because of an allergy, he could have been in trouble. Several of the girls ordered side salads to come out before the main entrée. One of the girl's salads didn't come out with the rest. Our server said he would be back with it. We had to remind him several times and it still didn't come out until the main entrees were served (it was a basic house salad). When he brought out the entrees, he couldn't remember who had what and was bringing the wrong things to the wrong people (easy enough to switch around, but considering he was writing our orders down, he should have been able to figure it out). I had asked for ranch dressing to come out with my fries. It didn't so I asked for some again, as did one of the other girls. He brought some out to her, but not me, so I had to ask again. Overall, we will be back because the food is yummy and close by. Hopefully the service will be better next time. read more

Great place to stop as you are leaving from Disney for breakfast and lunch. Excellent service, very tasty food and friendly ambience. Straight up real deal. Fresh, not frozen and the pies are homemade. There are no espresso drinks, but the coffee is freshly ground and brewed and very tasty. We had eggs Benedict with a fresh made hollandaise, waffle, buttermilk pancakes with pecans--all were excellent! The only criticism is they don't have pure maple syrup-they have breakfast syrup which is not the same. I used honey and it was great and was fine. I live in the area and have driven by the place a bunch of times and finally decided to pop in today. Most of the tables were full but my boyfriend and I were able to snag one immediately. We were greeted and offered drinks. Our server made some recommendations and my s/o did order one of the items she recommended. The food came out very timely and extremely fresh. Not only was the food amazing but so was the diner's homey feel and artwork. The chef, Anthony, came out of the kitchen towards the end of our meal to check on how everything came out. Small dinner but extremely clean. There was only one server working. She did a great job but I was at the door for a little while prior to being greeted. The pancakes were excellent with a nice buttery taste. They could use some better syrup. The reason for just three stars was the eggs. I checked my receipt to ensure I ordered correctly. I ordered eggs over medium and the yolks were completely cooked through. A dinner has to be able to cook eggs properly. read more
