I've been here a few times for haircuts and once for a massage. This is the Aveda Institute where they train students to become massage therapist, hair stylist, etc. The students are supervised throughout the hair cutting process. Every time I've been here I've had a good haircut. Please be aware that it will take longer than a full-service experienced salon. Yesterday it took an hour and a half to get a wash haircut and blow dry. The waiting area is set up like a regular Aveda Salon with all of their products displayed for sale. The reason for my three-star review not four stars is because I showed up on time for my appointment and they took me 30 minutes late. I think this is a reflection of poor scheduling by the managers not the students. They need to better manage this. Taliyah is AMAZING! I didn't know cutting straight hair was hard. I figured it would be the easiest hair to cut. I learned something! One of the instructors came by frequently to made sure that she hadn't any problems or difficulties with my hair. My hair is also baby fine and thick complicating things even more and yet Taliyah handled it as if she had been doing my hair her whole life. I have a specific or signature cut that I like and whenever I stray from it I regret it. Taliyah was able to fix the mess left after a bad cut last year, re-create my style perfectly and at the length I wanted . This young lady is going places so you better see her before she graduates in February! As for the school; I do not live near this Aveda school anymore. In fact it's a 3 Hour drive however, I have always had a good experience here no matter who I saw. I hadn't been back since before Covid. I tried the Orlando school and, no, just no. We visited the Institute knowing we were going to have students do our services. Unfortunately some of the services were way below even "student" standards. Between three of us we had a manicure & pedicure, lash tinting, massage, and a facial. Facial and massage were great. Lash tinting was good except they did have a problem getting off extra residue. For a few days I looked like I slept in my makeup which is not a look I like. The manicure and pedicure were terrible. They do not use tools so do not expect a real pedicure. They barely scrubbed the feet, and skipped it entirely on one of us. Lackluster at best. They also do not start the pedicure soaking in water. When painting the nails they do not use a base or top coat. Our hands started chipping the same day. Honestly it seems like the nail education is minimum. I'm not sure why they offer the services at all. Would I return? Possibly for the massage & facial, wouldn't anything else. read more

This is after canceling my appointment twice in the past month. I'll have to take my business elsewhere. Even a bang trim is $21 at Aveda and $9.99 at Supercuts. Please explain to me how a beauty school is charging these prices that are double what a salon with licensed cosmetologists charges. A blow dry a couple of months ago became a point of contention because the student wanted to use a curling iron on me, which they consider a special service. They proceeded to humiliate her in front of me by berating her loudly. I'm not sure who was more embarrassed at that point, me or her, but she apologized profusely, unlike the instructors. My highlights have been uneven the past few times and caused a lot of damage to my hair. Appt was at 3:30. Didn't take me until 3:50 and then said they wouldnt have time to color my hair. Student seemed to not want to be there at all and moved no faster than a sloth, and talked so low I couldn't understand what she was saying and had to ask her to repeat herself the entire time. I took three hours vacation leave for this appt. Ended up just telling student to wash and blow my hair, which educator should have comped considering all things. Student gave me probsbly the worst hair wash ever. Put shampoo on but basically patted my hair. Never used her fingers to get into the hair. I didn't expect a scalp massage, but I feel like the shampoo never even made it to my scalp. And my hair at the nape of my neck was untouched by shampoo or water. Shampoo didn't make it that far. Student did a good job of blow drying, but I was so pissed with the entire experience that I didn't tip her. I woke up feeling bad not tipping, but she brought it on herself with her off-putting attitude. Even tho the service only cost $18 the customer service was about $2. I would have tipped had they comped my service because student ended up doing a good job on the blow & styling. Aveda even called me earlier that day to see if I could come in half hour earlier. My review is based on mostly my recent visit but this place has been gradually going downhill for years. I actually had a friend who was an instructor here and left after like 2 months. I have heard from many students over the years that it is a horrible place so I avoided it. I recently had the urge to do my hair and didn't have hundreds of dollars to spare so I made an appointment when they had 20% off for services. And in case you did not know, these are all students providing services to practice. Over the years, I have had many services here and have purchased plenty of their products. I usually book for massages and hair. I never had a facial here because they do not do extractions. I stopped manicures and pedicures because the polish went to shit and there are only like 3 colors to choose from. I want to say the last time I visited was at least 4 years ago. Anyway, I tried booking for a massage, hair color, and haircut. They were not scheduling massages because the students were graduating?! I was only booked for color and cut. I usually have pictures to show exactly what I want and provided those. I was first set up with Angelique, who was super excited to do color. I explained how my hair does not take color and I need something that will stay permanently. She assured me this can be done and I provided pictures of examples. The instructor, Jade, was guiding and checking in periodically. Not that this is Angelique's fault but I listen to people talk all week, so sometimes I need a break and she talked a lot. Anyway, after sitting for a while with bleach and toner, I was led to the shampoo area. I was then informed someone else would be cutting my hair since "a regular customer of Angelique's was making a big deal about having her do her hair". Fine. I would not have bothered mentioning it but the experience just kept sucking. The student I had to cut my hair must have been fresh on the floor because she was struggling. When my hair was longer than I wanted, I spoke up and requested to have more cut but just a smidge. Yeah then she went too short and I couldn't put my hair in a ponytail. So in the midst of all this, Jade came by and was in shock that there was absolutely no color in my hair. I reminded her of my warnings and she had another student try again. Still no color attached to my hair. I think they were using toner and not dye (I am not too savvy but I don't think that is dye). Jade was very apologetic and when I was checking out, she booked me the following week so they could fix it since they were closing. I was there for 7 friggin hours. I'm not kidding. I received a call the day of or before my follow up appointment to cancel due to the student scheduled was out sick or something. I didn't bother calling back or pursuing it. I am officially breaking up with the Avesta Institute. The 2 stars are for Jade and because I get to use my Nova Shark card. read more

I have been going to Aveda institute for over 10 years. In the beginning the school was run very well with educators checking on students as they worked on guests. Now there is almost no oversight. I have tried almost all the services offered and they were either basic or didn't work at all. One such service was brow coloring which didn't work at all. From NYC experience I know that using hair dye on brows does work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were incidents concerning coloring of brows and the very unprofessional manager (Deborah) told me I was banned from the school.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Every guest signs a waiver stating that the school is not responsible for anything that may go wrong so there is no liability on behalf of the school. I've had three additional experiences here since my first, and I have to say they have been wonderful. My last experience was maybe my best. I had about three inches cut off my hair. The students are so knowledgeable - Gia really listened to my concerns: itchy scalp and a little hair thinning. She washed my hair with the rosemary and mint shampoo and provided hair thinning products from their line. She gave me a great scalp massage which is always appreciated. She then proceeded by giving me a great cut and fabulous voluminous blow out. Gia was really phenomenal. I plan to be back because the truth is you cannot beat $21 for a cut and style. Unfortunately, the student didn't understand the concept of the haircut, which was basically a pixie. The educator did the initial cuts and the student succeeded in cutting the sides to short even after two consultations with t educator. The educator tried to correct the cut but the final appearance of the cut looks hacked. This is a teaching school, so mistakes are made and hair will grow. The cut just looks unkempt with sticking out parts. It's unique to say the least. read more
