I met a friend here for dinner one weeknight and I was a bit stressed trying to find parking until I realized there was more parking around the corner. I think it was so busy because there was a lounge with a live band playing upstairs. We ate in the dining room which had a nice warm atmosphere. We had bread with oil and spices which is always a nice way to start a meal. I asked about vegetarian options and based on our server's descriptions I decided to order the risotto. It was perfect- creamy with a nice texture to the rice and tasted delicious. Our server was excellent. You could tell he was a pro. Helpful and efficient but not intrusive. Avellino has been bookmarked on my Yelp account for a long time so we finally made it there. We arrived about 3 in the afternoon and we were immediately in love with the decor...in what appears to be an antique home converted to a restaurant. Lots of beautiful woodwork, built ins, and plenty of charm. Everyone who works there was very friendly and helpful. We were seated in a front room with large glass French doors and beautiful sceneries of Venice I believe were painted on the walls. The menu's were VERY disappointing. We're in an Italian restaurant correct? The ONLY Italian entree was chicken parmigiana. That's it. I really didn't want something so simple, but we were out for Italian food so I ordered it. The other entree's ordered in our party was Baked Cod, Baked salmon and Steak tips. For appetizers we ordered a small Caesar salad, Butternut Apple soup, and clam chowders. I ordered the small Caesar salad and it wasn't anything special. It didn't have any shaved parmesan and the croutons were hard as rocks, I seriously thought I would break a tooth and quickly pushed them aside. The butternut soup was well enjoyed, but the clam chowder was a disappointment. My partner said it tasted cheesy (like it had a lot of cheese in it, not cheap), I tried the chowder and it did have a heavy cheese taste to it. Our dinners arrived and the salmon was well enjoyed, even it's presentation was beautiful. My partner said that the Cod tasted well enough, but that I make it better ;) . The steak tips looked a mess, just a plate full of fries with steak tips on top and evidently they were pretty grizzly too. My chicken parmigiana was a disaster!! First, I was surprised they never asked what kind of pasta I wanted with it. The pasta I was served looked like it was house made and it was HORRIBLE!! The sauce they used tasted like it came out of a jar and the chicken itself was pretty dry. I left all the pasta and only ate half the chicken. This was a bitter disappointment for an Italian restaurant, not even any bread served!! I will never go back again. And the 2 stars was for the excellent salmon dinner, otherwise I would have given one star. read more

They were clearly short staffed and not adjusting much to help Lauren, our server and bartender, who was awesome. She saved the night. We had Veal Marsala and Pappardelle Bolognese (spelled incorrectly on the menu, fyi restaurant). The veal dish with mushrooms and sort of risotto was ok. The bolognese dish was not bolognese. I highly recommend this restaurant! The food is outstanding! My wife and I shared the burrata caprese as an appetizer and It was stupendous. I ordered the shrimp Scampi. The shrimp was fresh and the pasta was obviously homemade and perfectly cooked. My Wife had the frutti di mare. The fish was cooked to perfection, the sauce did not overwhelm and the lobster ravioli. My husband and I met some friends here for a nice dinner Saturday night after an afternoon at the Brimfield Antique Show. We got there around 6pm and we sat outside. We were a little disappointed for find out that they were already out of the vegetable ravioli (especially since 3 of the four of us wanted to order that as our main course!) by 6pm on a Saturday night, but we made due. My husband and I split a large house salad. He also had the pretzel rolls and for our main course I had the Lemon Thyme risotto and he had the parmesan risotto. Went here Saturday night for Valentines Day. The atmosphere is very cozy and warm. It likes eating in a old plantation farmhouse. Our water was great, so I didn't remember his name. We had the coco Maria martinis which were excellent. I had the chicken saltimboca over rice and she had the chicken parm over penne Alfredo and both were excellent. It is a smaller place that is quant and cozy with warm charm atmosphere and great food. Only gripe would be for $25 meals should at least come with a salad. We were exhausted and on our way from a long day at Brimfield when we spotted Avellino Restaurant. We did not have reservations. The restaurant was absolutely packed! Thank goodness the hostess was able to find us a cute little table for two. The service was excellent. Our waiter recommended the special that night. It had large shrimp, Italian sausage in a vodka sauce over Italian egg noodles. It was the best meal I have ever eaten. Absolutely delicious! Superb! So great we returned the following night with friends. Friday night date-night with my wife to celebrate her birthday. Food, service, and atmosphere were so wonderful, we returned the following night with friends. Our server, Kristine, was the best. We specifically requested her for our return visit the next night. The biggest problem is deciding what to have! For Antipasti, highly recommend the Stuffed Artichokes, the Sicilian Calamari, and the Cast Iron Shrimp Scampi. For Main Courses, you can't go wrong with the Chicken Marsala, the Slow Roasted Pork Shank, the Zuppa de Pesce, and the Eggplant Parmigiana. Honestly, I'm sure everything on the menu is wonderful, but could only eat so much over a two-night visit! Desserts are also top-notch: the Pecan tart, the Tiramisu, the special Brownie dessert - along with a Cappuccino - yum, yum. My wife and I took my son out to eat here, we were greeted upon arrival and sat us near a window. Our view was downtown Sturbridge. The decor of the restaurant was classy, clean, well laid out with just the right of music in the back ground, with out being to loud at all, just enough for the perfect ambience. My wife and son want the home made pasta, but the dish my son requested didn't come with home made pasta, the waitress said she would check with the chef to see if anything could be done. She came back and said the chef would make his meal with the home made pasta. Myself I got scallops over risotto, we sampled each other dishes, each plate was scrumptious. We got a Caesar salad which was very nice, I had a Belguim style beer that was made at a local monastery. Very nice! I finished the evening with a espresso with a twist of lemon. Jenny our server was very pleasant and accommodating. The night was excellent, the bill was pretty much in line with other fine dining establishments. Finding ourselves in central part of the state, on the spur of the moment, my wife and I decided to go to Avellino Restaurant where, in the past, we had experienced a great meal. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time. The first table that we were seated was not particularly clean, rubbing our finger across the table left lines in the dust. We considered leaving but ultimately decided to stay after being seated at a pleasant table over looking the patio. Having no steak offering on a very limited menu was a surprise. . We ordered appetizers, meatballs and Gorgonzola bread. The meatballs were bland and tasted like a hamburger that was rolled into a ball. The Gorgonzola bread was horrible with a flavor that was unpalatable, over loaded with basil and oil. Neither of us finished them. After the appetizers, we hesitated ordering any of the entrees, deciding to have salads instead, feeling that this would be a safe choice. Boy, we're we wrong. My wife ordered the blackberry salad with arugula, and asparagus. They should have called it an arugula salad with a slight garnish of blackberries and asparagus. The salad came with 3 blackberry which were cut in half showing 6 pieces on the plate. She also found only 4 small pieces of asparagus. The 4 pieces were done the way she liked them, not over cooked and crunchy. When we complained about the amount of blackberries in the salad, the waitress brought her additional blackberries on a small plate. My salad wasn't bad, having a fair amount of strawberries and other fruits. We were asked about dessert telling us that they were fresh and house made by their relatively new chef. After our appetizers and salads we declined and left. My wife and I eat out on a regular basis and we both agree that this experience, considering the cleanliness, the really limited menu, and the flavor, quantity, and quality of our food, this was the worst meal we have had in a long long time. I love this place! I shared the eggplant parm and chicken piccata with a friend. The sauce on the parm had so much flavor. the eggplant was thinly sliced and lightly breaded - the texture was perfect. The chicken was so good, lots of flavor and cooked perfectly, and the roasted cherry (or grape) tomatoes on the side where a great compliment. Other menu items ordered by my party included Linguini with Red Clam sauce, Chicken Parmesan, and Caesar Salad with Scallops. All portions were very generous, leaving most of us with enough to take home for a full additional meal. Was recently in the area for my wedding, and chose Avellino to host our rehearsal dinner. I communicated back and forth with Dakota, who I believe is a manger. Everything was running smoothly until she didn't respond back to the final email where I had added 3 people to the guest list (19ppl, room holds 20) and changed the time to 6:30. Lack of communication made things a little hectic at first. Chris, our server, was a doll. Very accommodating, but felt as if he was in a little over his head as he also had tables in the main dining area. Food was delicious, I feel like for the price I paid per person for the dessert platter after dinner, they could have been a little more filled, or maybe even bring out a 3rd platter for 19 people. What a wonderful restaurant - not my choice with children but found it on yelp and they did not disappoint with their food. Restaurant shares space with another, i.e., you enter through one restaurant to get to Avellino. Server was good but not sure she appreciated we had children. Our kids were pretty good but our 2 yr old can be unpredictable. Other patrons were fine with our kids. It was early, 5:30 so there were only 2 other couples in our seating area. It is a small space. I don't recall our dishes, as it was a few months ago when we visited after going to Old Sturbridge Village for the afternoon, but we each had pasta dishes and the sauce was very good - marinara and a white sauce.
