Avenue bread is a great place to grab dinner when you're on the go. I ordered the BEAST burger minus the tomato, and it was delicious! The garlic aioli was really tasty and a nice addition. Note that they do serve tater tots after 4, but you have to specify when you're ordering, otherwise it's just kettle cooked chips (which were also good). There's a self-serve fountain drink station, and a separate tap for water, as well as a fridge of bottled drinks. The staff was friendly and there's plenty of seating, including an upstairs seating area. I loved looking around the adjoining bookstore before deciding on my food. The food, service and ambience is all great! I frequent this restaurant often! Food is flavorful and I like the home style layout.

Having never really been to Lynden we drove down there from our place just north of the border and picked this place to stop for lunch. There appear to be quite a few eateries around, but we are glad we picked the Avenue. The place is cool inside, and from the looks of the place, it's always hectic. We don't mind ordering at the counter and awaiting our foods arrival, as it's quite European in nature. I settled on the BLT and added another T with a turkey addition. The lovely K had the basic Roast beef sandwich. Both came with potato chips and appeared to be quite large on the plate. They were indeed as we both finished half and got a takeaway box for the balance. My BLTT was excellent, although I did find the chips a little greasy. The lovely K found her sandwich to be just a bit less tasty, hence the four stars. All in all a place we would come to again, as it appears to be good value for the money, a pleasant atmosphere and a cool concept. Thank for a really nice lunch. read more

We ordered a blood orange mimosa and a coffee with Irish cream. After paying the waitress told us they did not have the Irish Cream and they refunded that portion of the order. Unfortunately we were not hungry when we went in. Just got coffee and tea. However, was a pleasant experience, staff was friendly and helpful. Only issue was that the drinks were SO HOT, couldn't enjoy the coffee for some 30 minutes and never did taste the caramel that was in there. We would go back to try more menu options. Cool setting for sure. The renovation that they did and the buildout is quite cool. There is some meeting space available. Which is always good. The bread is fantastic! Overall good on their food, I do think they're trying a little bit hard to be bougie... You basically go put your order in and serve yourself. Not so great. I had the tuna melt. It was so greasy and not with good tasting oil. Just grease. The tuna tasted good enough but it was scorching hot. Not the bread but the tuna was hot. So hot it burned my mouth. And it did not cool off for a long time. Weird. The restaurant was cute but noisy. There was no service so I cannot comment on that. read more

Our first breakkie in Lynden and it was perfect. Hubs and I had the country eggenue and chocolate croissant. We were supposed to share... but hubs attacked the delicious croissant. Food was fresh and yummy. Service was quick and everyone is so nice. Quiet little place on Front Street but has a large area for seating upstairs and down. Delicious sandwiches and breads. My first visit since they transferred ownership. The front desk gals were very friendly. My only disappointment was in the amount of meat in my gourmet turkey sandwich. I ordered extra sprouts for $1 extra. A little bit of a bummer. The food was amazing. The staff couldn't have seemed more annoyed to be there. Every interaction made us feel like an obligation. They screwed up our order, we asked for the correction and then again, they brought out the wrong order. All of which is honestly completely fine if there was any sort of acknowledgement, apology, or compassion for the kid who had to wait to eat after everyone else. We came to town to check out the road up to the border from Bellingham, then stopped to explore. After walking from the museum to the windmill, and part way back, it was time for lunch. This place smelled so good with the fresh bread. We were very pleased with our sandwiches. The bread was, of course, very fresh and the ingredients and quanities perfect and served with chips. You order at the front (see photo of order board) and then find a table, upstairs, main floor and out doors. The food is delivered to your number. If you need napkins, condiments or a cup of water you will need to go up and get them yourselves. You clean your own table. What we ordered: - Beef Dip - Sweet & Savory Grilled Cheese (a special of the month) What we thought: - The Beef Dip was really good! The flavors of the meat and onions was yummy. The bread was crunchy and the au jus was warm and tasty. - The Sweet and Savory Grilled Cheese sounded great on paper but was completely tasteless. We were so incredibly disappointed. There was hardly any cheese. The peach chutney was meh at best and the ciabatta bread was nothing to write home about. Certainly a cute little place but it wasn't worth the 25 minutes of standing in line. Was this a normal experience or just a one off? Being my first time here I'm not sure but because the experience was not that great we probably won't be back to give it another try. read more

Recently I found myself in Lynden around lunchtime *and* craving a sandwich. I mean, what are the odds? So I popped into Avenue Bread. I've been to their other locations (in Bham and Fairhaven) but hadn't yet tried out this northerly outpost. It was a cold, rainy day so something hot and rich seemed in order. I grabbed a French Dip and it was soooo good. Served, of course, on their house-baked amazzzzing bread, and with a lovely au jus, I quickly devoured the sandwich. It was super filling - probably should have brought half of it home for dinner but, you know, willpower be damned! The service here is fast. You order at the counter and, magically, your food appears a few minutes later. It's a busy spot, with not a lot of seating, but it looked like a lot of people were getting their lunch to go. We stayed in Lynden for a few days recently, and loved eating at Avenue Bread - we came here here three times over three days, not only out of convenience (we stayed next door) but also because of the solid food, overall diverse menu, and ample seating. Their breakfast and lunch ranges from basic (I.e. eggs and bacon plate, which is perfect for a picky toddler) to more complex (breakfast sandwiches and large complex lunch salads). Not surprisingly, their bread is indeed really fantastic - super fresh, with a crunchy crust with a nice soft center. They had some beers on tap too, as well as a large selection of hot tea and many non-dairy milk options. Service is friendly and helpful. Both inside and outside seating, with a trendy and rustic ambiance indoors. Easily one of the best places to eat in town. read more

Nice sandwich shop kept socially distant. Ordered Tuna Melt/Sourdough with a cup of Tomato Dill Soup. My companion had the special sandwich of the day, grilled turkey on wheat. The cahier and server very friendly. The sandwiches were very tasty but the soup was too vinegary for me.. It' a nice place in a cool building in downtown Lynden. My biggest Pet Peeve with restaurants is Counter Service to order and they bring you your food. There were no less than 12 people on the floor and no Table Service. Really? Lots of folks cleaning windows, sweeping sidewalks and I have to wait on myself for drinks? The sandwiches were OK, nothing to really brag about so I'm sure we won't be back. Too me, restaurants are part of the service industry and I don't like paying premium for sell service. read more

Ordered a snack and cafe mocha .. after a 20 minute wait went to check and was told they were still working on it ..,it was obvious they had misplaced the order .. they all looked quite confused .. They then brought me a cappuccino and when i stated this was not the mocha I ordered .. I was told it was .... and the whipped cream I saw on other mochas was a special request only .. I guess they think the customer is so stupid they can't tell a cappuccino from a mocha .. what is so disappointing is I understand in a restaurant losing an order snd getting an order incorrect but very bad business to blatantly fib to a customer... staff needs to be better trained .. an apology could have easily made the experience right again .. read more

This is always the first place I stop at in Lynden. I had an incredible Greek Burger the first day I was in town. On the last day, I had a vegetarian omelet with hash browns and sourdough toast.
