Well, as much as hate giving bad reviews, this evenings meal at Rustlers was a big disappointment. Granted we did eat later than we generally do but that shouldn't affect the quality of the food. The Waite staff is fine and friendly, no issues there. The problem is the meal. The salads were fresh and really good. I ordered the teriyaki steak and my wife got the short ribs. Both of us got loaded potatoes and the veggies. Veggies were hot but like mush. I'm guessing Birds Eye frozen from a bag. No bueno. The loaded potatoes were lukewarm. The terryaki state was okay since you can hide flavors with the sauce. My wife's plate only varied with her choice of ribs that were done but dry. Overall it was quite underwhelming. I've been here many times (breakfast mostly) and before when it was Dutch mothers. Hate to say it, but it was poorly executed and a dismal experience. Sorry, rustlers, ya need to improve. read more

It's definitely a small town feel restaurant but tasty food. Nice size menu, want overwhelmed with too many options. Clean establishment with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Waitress was kind and informative. Food came out fresh and presented well. My Ruben was very good and I love the toasted bread. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Sweet potato fries were delicious as well. Had a great breakfast here while staying in town, and the location couldn't be more convenient. It's an easy walk from the Inn at Lynden, which makes it a perfect spot to wander over to in the morning. The food was solid and the ambience is fantastic. The place is filled with quirky artifacts and fun little pieces of history, so there's plenty to look at while you settle in. Our table ordered the waffle, the Tot Scramble, and the French Toast. Portions were huge and everything tasted just as you'd hope from a cozy local diner. Service ran a bit slow, but the relaxed pace fit the vibe and I wasn't in a hurry. Prices felt very reasonable too. Three of us ate, plus a coffee, and the total with tip came to about $80, which is pretty great these days. If you're staying nearby or just exploring downtown Lynden, Drustler's Front St. Grill is an easy, enjoyable stop for a hearty breakfast. read more

Pick your topping or go plain and simple with syrup like I did; it certainly makes for a unique breakfast you don't find too many other places. I have written a review for Rustlers previously. Had a good time. Was home searching then and liked it here. Well now I'm officially a resident and Rustlers is our go to place. They have any thing you could want... a big meal or a small snack. A glass of wine or a cold beer. Everyone is so friendly. This last trip was for a big bowl of their Dutch Meatball soup. I swear this stuff cured my sinusitis. LOL. So happy to live so close and have a place to hang. Looking forward to many more visits! My husband raves about the chicken fried steak! First time visit I noticed They had a special "55" menu available so we decided to try that. I ordered the pasta Alfredo and added chicken to itIt was very tasty. I could've licked the plate. This is such a cool place! We loved the atmosphere and the terrific staff who helped us including our main server, the cheerful Hailey. The food here is big!!! I'm used to Monte Cristo sandwiches which are flattened--this one featured enormous toasted bread. It was delicious, but I would have preferred less bread. The boneless wings were generous, spicy and delicious. The green salad was very nice; very fresh. My partner liked his Old West Philly sandwich very much. My only true disappointment was the calamari--there was hardly any squid (cut up steaks would be my suggestion)--and the batter they were fried in was dense. I ate breakfast here two days in a row. Day 1: Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise was not from a mix and was flavorful. The hash browns were crispy and not overdone. They serve it will actual ham steak, not with cheap and thin Canadian bacon. Very good. Day 2: Country pileup. The over easy eggs were perfect, the sausage gravy needed some pepper (but I always add more pepper to sausage gravy), the sliced up links in the potatoes were tasty and plentiful. Overall, a great experience. It's easy to see why the locals eat here!! read more

First time here. The ambiance and design of the place is super super cute! We came in for Father's Day and totally understand waiting but our food took 40+ mins to come out. We were missing multiple things and all the food came out at separate times. The salad was over dressed and wilted and the chicken sandwich was so overcooked it hurt to bite into. The wait staff was less than outgoing and just overall not a great experience. We each ordered salads for our evening meal. He had steak on his and I had grilled chicken Cesar. His was fine but I was unpleasantly shocked by how I had to literally search for the lettuce in mine. They put at least a quarter of a pound of sliced Parmesan cheese. I ate half the cheese but put the rest on the edge of my plate. What an interesting place! It's located at a perfect spot in Lynden, and the inside is very campy and cute. Definitely a great place for family, and the prices were also good as someone eating with only one other person! My fish and fries were great, I especially appreciated the homefry feel of them. The zickles (fried pickles with a spicy sauce) were an awesome appetizer that I couldn't get enough of. My mom had her taco salad turned into a wrap with a side of dutch meatball soup, and enjoyed both! I am shocked this place has only 3.5 stars versus 5... Just moved up from King county and not ONLY is the food fresh, made delicious, the portion sizes are big, the price is unbelievable. I've eaten here 3 times just since I've moved up on 3 months and the calamari was fabulous. I'm not sure where the other reviewers eat, but if they went to King county they would be blown away by how great this Lyndon restaurant is.... Because I sure am! We were headed down the street and our regular place was too crowded so we ended up here. It was a pleasant surprise.. the atmosphere was so much fun, each or the rooms had different interesting country western/music themes and country music plays in the background. The service wasn't perfect but I think they are enthusiastic and eager to please.. maybe a learning curve going on here? We had the Front Street Pile Up And the Mardarin chicken salad and both of us would definitely order these again.. very tasty, NOT great, fresh and satisfying! We will definitely be back! read more

Definitely not our kind of place. The fish and chips was greasy and excessively breaded. Both my wife and I pealed some the crispy batter off the fish and thought the fish tasted freezer burned and mushy...plus it tasted like the batter had potato starch added to it. The fresh fries were crispy but also were most definitely dumped from a bag found in the freezer. Fresh made fries from cut potatoes are most definitely easy to identify by their fresh taste. Great old fashion saloon feeling with amazing food , great service and affordable prices. I had a ham and cheese scramble with hash brown so yummy. Food is good BUT they are sooooooooooo slow - with take out or dine in. We at there and mentioned this to the manager and he said "45 min wait for dinner once seated is normal". for burgers and fries??? The ratio of the kitchen to their seating really should be addressed. We just don't go there anymore unless we wanna just sit around and drink for a while before we eat - also the way the restaurants laid out there's nothing to even look at while you wait for your food. If you're in that weird big dining room you're just staring at the other people waiting for their food. It's super awkward. read more

Rustlers is a kitschy place with over-the-top western/country decor, bordering on garrish and slightly overwhelming. But if you're in the mood for that kind of rustic atmosphere, it's the place for you. Regardless, our party's breakfast was solid, and service is super quick and on top of everything. Huge portions that were fresh and warm, and our waitress was happy to accommodate a few changes and customizations to some of the dishes.
