Tried out Avenue on a friend's recommendation and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Wednesday pizza special ($14.49 for a large pizza with one topping). I got the pepperoni and sausage pizza. Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way: the sausage not being crumbled freaked me out, haha. Didn't actually impact taste, but it definitely shaped how I felt eating each slice. Before I moved into Kenmore,this was my "go-to" pizza place. Towards the end of living on Shoshone,I noticed the portions were getting smaller & the prices were going up frequently. The food wasn't tasting as good anymore. Then,we moved to Kenmore & still continued to order,but the food just kept getting worse & my subs were practically empty. We started ordering from a different place that never lets us down. Lastnight,we decided to give Avenue one more try,mainly because their prices are cheaper than most & we couldn't afford more than they offered. Well,there is a reason why their prices are cheaper,the food is awful now. We ordered a Sheet Pizza & a bucket of wings. (Wings 1/2 hot 1/2 medium) When we got our food "late" the wings looked so dry & there was no difference between the hot & medium. They had NO sauce on them at all. I was trying to smell them to see if there was a difference in the smell of hotness. There was not,but I can say,they smelled HORRIBLE !! Omg,the smell was so bad. They smelled like they were cooked in the morning's oil that has been used all day long. Either that,or the wings went bad or sat out. My son,fiancé & I ate a few because we were so hungry for wings,but,we couldn't get them down without a lot of our hot sauce & bleu cheese. All of us ended up sick. Not food poisoned,but very nauseous & well,u know the other reaction. I still,to this moment,am sick to my stomach & have been unable to eat for over 24 hours. My stomach is sooo blaaahhhhh. We had ordered 30 wings for pick up, and the conversation i had on the phone was so odd, i almost did not want to complete my order. Whoever answered the phone had almost 0 manners and seemed annoyed to be doing their job.. they didn't even ask how we wanted our wings just "ok 30 wings anything else" lol - kind of irked me. I also asked if they could do mostly flats and was told "if you order 20, we can do more flats, but 30-no" i am not sure if this is like standard cause it does not seem logical to me since you can order 10 at a time but okay, whatever. Went to pick up our order and the person at the counter was actually very polite, wasn't expecting that after the phone call. As for the wings.. i did see someone complain about dry wings and do see what they were saying.. but at the same time i personally enjoy crispy dry wings (personal preference) We ordered half medium and half mild wings on the BBQ. Mild was so bland but medium was quite good. I ordered wings for my friend and myself for lunch. We were both craving wings, crunchy, saucy Buffalo chicken wings... Avenue has them at the most reasonable price... I ordered two separate single orders: extra crispy and hot, extra crispy and medium. We didn't want anything fancy, just Buffalo wings... They were both perfect, made as specified, came with celery and bleu cheese... so happy for bleu cheese and NOT ranch, but I digress... The wings were large and meaty, juicy inside crisp outside, hot and finger licking (really) good. They were just sauced with regular Buffalo wing hot sauce, not a special blend of fancy. They don't have fancy here, except if you consider honey mustard or bbq fancy. They have those flavors. I took off one star because they gave me a time frame of 30 minutes to pick up my order and although they were not busy, I had to wait another 10 minutes once I got there. They are observing the Covid 19 precautions. The place is clean, the people are friendly and chatty if you like that sort of thing. I would definitely order from here again but I'll try to remember that they under estimate how much time they'll take to make the order. read more

The place is skeevy and needs a good cleaning. 2. The staff were not very friendly. I stood at the counter for a few minutes before anyone even acknowlefged me. 3. They told me 20 minutes when I called to order. When I got there to pick up, I still had to wait another 10 minutes or so. 4. I ordered the chicken souvlaki dinner. Stopped in for a ham sub and a slice of cheese and pepperoni on a Friday night. Called ahead, was quoted 15 minutes MAX. Ok. Not bad for a Friday night! The restaurant and kitchen were very clean, they looked busy and the kitchen was working efficiently. Got to work and had the pizza outside before I started my shift, perfect size and it was pretty fresh and very tasty with a good amount of sauce. Had the sub for dinner a while later...I asked for my oil and mayo on the side, which they were. I don't like my sub being soggy if it's going to sit for a while before it gets eaten. The WORST steak sub ever! I don't generally order steak subs but my husband had a taste for one, so we split one. The "steak" was chopped so fine that it bordered on pureed! The peppers were tiny specks in the mix. And greasy !!! Grease soaked bun! What a disappointment... never again. read more

General Franco, after fleeing Spain, came to Buffalo and opened his own Pizza joint, which much like his Spanish conquistadores, became a serialized chain taking over rival businesses and spreading across the region like a bush fire (but not like Bush, because firstly, the political Bushes are long gone thank goodness, secondly, the band Bush isn't really having hits anymore, and thirdly, that other Bush is becoming more and more scarce these days too, particularly in Brazil, the USA, and, er, Spain. Which brings me back to...) Franco's! This is what I call the "middle Francos". The one in Amherst on NFB is awful. The one on Eggert is absolutely amazing. This one is somewhere in the middle. Some of the employees have had bad attitudes with me but the food has always been good. However they lose a mark because they said on the phone that they had pizza slices, and when I got there 15 minutes later they said they didn't, and hadn't had any for awhile. The girl who works here is lovely but the guys are really not. Or at least the ones I've dealt with. It's a cold & dreary Tuesday and I didn't feel like cooking, so I googled for a place in the area for some decent Buffalo Wings. I know Buffalo is the home of the Buffalo Wings, but I'm really not a fan of the more "popular" places as those wings are simply too salty for my taste. Avenue Pizza & Sub came up, and their menu was also available on allumenus.com. They are very close to the intersection of Delaware and Hertel, and pretty much across the street from Burger King. I called and placed an order for a single order of medium wings and chicken souvlaki salad, which would be ready for pick-up in about 25 minutes. By the way, they also deliver as well. When I arrived about 20 minutes later, I didn't have any problem finding parking in their lot. When you walk in, you'll walk straight to the take-out counter area (so I'm not sure if there were seating areas, but my guess is probably not). My salad was ready, and my wings were just coming out. My order came to a little over $20, which in my mind, was a little on the pricey side considering I've only ordered a single order of wings and a salad. However after tasting the wings, I'd gladly pay that price again. The wings were SO good!!! The wings were perfectly cooked, extra crispy but not burnt or dry, juicy but not undercooked. The sauce was perfect: flavorful and a true representation of "Buffalo Wings". In Buffalo, everyone is making Buffalo Wings, but the wings from this place is exactly how I remembered Buffalo Wings to be (prior to moving away). So of course, I ate all of the wings right away, and then, was too full for my salad. Therefore I cannot make any comments on the salad, but I'm now inclined to believe that everything on their menu must be good. We have had their subs once before-very delicious- and last night we tried their pizza and wings. The pizza was good, a true buffalo pizza. There wasn't quite the amount of cheese I prefer but the crispy turned up edge pepperonis with the grease pool inside made up for it. I also was a fan of the crust. The wings however were not great. We ordered half mild and half medium. Both varieties were drier than we had hoped for and just did not have that juicy moist chicken wing thing you get when you bite into it. We didn't eat the whole order and opted not to save the leftovers. The sides of blue cheese were small in comparison to other shops in the area. Please read this before spending a dollar in that shit hole. The other night I ordered a large pizza (we'll done) and 20 wings. I ordered it at 5:00 to be delivered At roughly 7:00. So at 8:00 I get a call telling me they had arrived with the food. When I went to the door nobody was there. Then about 4 min later I see a truck parking across the street. The man sat in his truck for about 5 more minutes on the phone and then looked at me like I was supposed to walk across the street to meet him so he didn't have walk his lazy ass to the door. He told me the price which was about $20 more than the menu said. So I get the pizza in the house and it's ice cold. The cheese was literally hard. This thing hadn't seen an oven in hours. I started dialing the number to tell them and I hear my girlfriend gagging. Literally dry heaving. She tried one of the wings. They smelled like they were a week old. I honestly think they microwaved them because they were hot but had that look like if you were to try to microwave them. They literally smelled like actual trash. When I called to complain they said they'd send another after arguing with me that I wasn't going to get a refund. They showed up at 10:10pm and some shreck looking woman acted like I personally offended her when she dropped off the new food. The new pizza was definitely hot. The wings were so well cooked that the bones were exposed in every one. They we're supposed to be hot and there was zero sauce on them. We both had a couple bites of pizza and then it all went in the trash. The two liter was excellent though. I literally paid $50 for a two liter. Everyone who works there in in desperate need of a bath and needs to be taught about personal hygiene. I would never spend another dime in there and I would highly suggest not wasting your money there. I've never been so grossed out from a couple bites of pizza and smelling wings. Update... I am obsessed with their subs! The best I've ever had! I order from here once or twice a month (I've never ate inside the restaurant, but there is plenty of seating). Prices are very reasonable, and they have daily special deals. I usually get a turkey sub, and it's toasted to perfection! Chicken finger subs are good, too. Both the fries (they have steak fries) and onion rings are good options for sides. Delivery times vary depending on the day/time, but they're usually right on their estimates or a little early. Ordered the pizza two hours before close. Ordered cheese and mushroom only. Paid $18.00 for a large and a 20 once Coke. Saw the sign and they had a monthly special, large pizza and two liter $13.99. Didnt close for another hour 1/2 and it was obvious looked they were all going home. Took home pizza and it was cold and the mushrooms were not even cooked on to the pizza. Showed a Large Cheese and 1 item pizza special for Wednesdays - $10.95... felt like it was worth a shot. (between calling in my order, and picking it up, I checked the Yelp reviews. Nothing was recent, especially regarding the pizza) And... I think it was a good choice. Just a good, solid, pepperoni pizza. The crust was both crunchy and chewy, the sauce and cheese both tasted great. At this price point (out the door under $12 with the Wednesday special), I think you would be hard pressed to do better. That said, it didn't stand out, especially in the competitive pizza market that surrounds Hertel Ave. I would definitely not shy away from another pizza from here. And a lot of these restaurants can't make them good! there was one on the corner of Main Street across from rite aid.. Anyway my grandma used to get the corned beef and I loved it but I remember the oil was very good and this Avenue's oil was the same great taste!! A month ago ordered wings Went to pick them up..cashier looked harried and said they had a trainee. Joked "should I get a discount?" she chuckled. Raw drums, called and spoke to a gentleman next day..oh we'll take care of you next time. Called today..recalled with same female from last time about raw drums..oh no she said that's awful..everything will be good. Got to Avenue and reminded her Make sure wings are done ha ha..She didn't take care of me..nothing off bill..So I just said to myself..Yelp. I've been here a number of times over the years and sadly it seems like every time they improve one aspect of their business they go down hill in another. The food is okay in pricing ($14 for two 12" hot subs and a 2 liter of soda, $2+ for a 12" garlic bread, etc) but the quality varies greatly from visit to visit - ranging from blah to delicious over the years depending on the staff and the day of the week. Any of the "parm" subs (eggplant, chicken, etc) tend to be so greasy it's not just staining the bag, it's dripping through (like the one I got yesterday). The interior has been improved since my last visit - new paint, some hanging plants, etc - and was overall brighter and less dingy, but its still the same rickety worn out tables and the kitchen, which you can see into, looks...well awful. Like it needs a serious overhaul and powerwash. It's not that the area they are prepping your food on isn't clean, it's just that the same decor has been in there FOREVER - super discolored ceiling, ultra blackened exhaust vent, flourescent lights with yellowed covers, etc. Service is up and down too, ranging from just nice enough to be passable to an "order your sh+t and get out of my face" type of demeanor. To top it all off the awful stretched-fabric awning that has been their signage for lord knows how long was damaged in a windstorm LAST winter and hasn't had a single thing done to it. It's ripped half off and wadded up around the frame it's supposed to be connected to. I expect better in general, but especially in area where business is booming and the houses are drawing in $80-100k. Do an overhaul, especially to the kitchen, work on the customer service and definitely freshen up the food. You used to serve the best eggplant parm sub in town, in the worst dining room, and now you have an okay dining room and a just okay, acne-causing oily sub. Frowny face. read more

Great pizza, great service. I've now ordered pizza to go twice, it was amazing the 1st time and pretty good the 2nd time. Both times the person working the counter was pleasant and helpful. Not sure of their names, but the man cooking the pizza and working the counter made the better pizza vs the woman. Haven't had menus available for a few weeks now. Said they should have been in earlier this week. Really not sure why it would ever take that long, could just go copy some at Kinkos! Glad this pizza place is in close proximity to my house.
