Went here on a Sunday night. Not sure if they were expecting it to be supper busy, but it turned out to be. Not sure if they were low on staff. Anyway our waiter was supper nice and even took off 2 wines off the bill, because he said the service was slow. Finally tried the Avenue for dinner. 7 dinners shared a mix of appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Everyone was quite happy. Lettuce was very crisp and salads were large and tasty. Scallops were cooked to perfection and with the leeks incredibly tasty. Roasted chicken, short ribs and gnocchi also received rave reviews. Comfortable, casual atmosphere with warm and just-in-time service. My biggest pleasure, reasonable noise levels on a Friday night. We easily carried on a conversation without screaming. Service is extremely polite from the moment the valet takes your keys. My wife has extreme food allergies and Chef Brian went out of his way to make sure she was taken care of and had a full plate. Her sole was cooked to perfection and my Filet Frites was beyond. Chef is always walking the room checking on tables and service staff is friendly and warm. Food is always timely here, and we have never felt rushed or like we are waiting. And a fantastic Barman to boot. I rarely ever write a review, but I we were disappointed I had to write one. Food was average at best and way overpriced. The duck was almost uneatable (very fatty and very little flavor The shrimp/lobster had zero lobster and was extremely bland. Service was good and atmosphere very nice. No one rushed us and the waiter Sam was excellent (only reason I didn't give 1 star). Our bill was over $160 for two people (and only 3 drinks). I would like to think that we purchased the wrong meals or it was an off night as I had heard good things about the restaurant and I hate to see a small business falter, but I'm also a believer that the business needs to know when change is required. read more

We had our rehearsal dinner at Avenue and it was such a fun night! The space was perfect for our 60 guests (we did the full restaurant), and then we invited other out of town guests to come after dinner and that was such a fun addition as well. The bar, main restaurant area, and the room off the restaurant provided several options for people to spread out during the cocktail hour and after dinner drinks. Vicky helped us plan the night and menu and she was great! She was very easy to work with and provided us so many ideas. She even asked if we wanted to approve their Christmas decorations to verify if it matched our theme which was so thoughtful. We did family style entrees and this was a great way to try more options. Our guests loved the food, and the night overall! We had our wedding party stay at the Seven Gables Inn next door so it was a 30 second walk home which was great for people who wanted to leave at different times. Had dinner here last night and it was a very good experience. This is the old Roxanne's building and has the same layout but a rustic facelift. They have an extensive alcohol menu and for dinner the market fresh oysters were by far the best I've had in a long time. I wasn't feeling super adventurous so just went with baked chicken which was served over delish huge wild mushrooms and fluffy potatoes. The bill was less than $70 which included 3 drinks. Went here for brunch. Got the French onion soup, which was pretty bland, but that may be on me for ordering it. My friend got a more deluxe meal with eggs, polenta, and potatoes, which seemed really nice. The coffee was $2.75 and never refilled =\ the service definitely could have been a lot better. My friend got a cocktail, which was strong and delicious- would definitely come back here for post dinner drinks. read more

Boy do I miss the old Pomme on Saturday and Sunday mornings! Had the two egg breakfast. Underwhelming! The plate was so small that there was room for two scrambled, three pieces of out-of-season fruit and 5! tiny pieces of potato! Service was sketchy at best. Had a business lunch there yesterday. The service was fine, not in-line with past reviews. the food was also fine, but left me a bit underwhelmed. The tuna nicoise salad had perhaps an once, maybe slightly more of tuna on it. about the size of a walnut. Either this is standard, and others have complained, or it was a mistake. I'll give them a free pass on my first visit, but the plate was disappointing. My friend had a grilled ham and cheese, which looked amazing. I'll try another menu item next time in hopes of scoring. My husband and I went to Avenue for a late lunch around 2:00. There staff was pretty unresponsive and unknowledgeable. I had a mixed greens salad and for $11, all I received was a medium sized plate with some lettuce and dressing. My husband had the portobello sandwich with a side salad and about an hour later had severe diarrhea and stomach cramping. The food was poor, ambiance was poor and service was poor. I would never go back and would never recommend to anymore. read more

This place is seriously cute looking but that's about where the positive ends. I came in here with my mother who is Israeli and has an accent but perfect, totally clear English and is a bit older, so mobility isn't always perfect. So first let's talk about the food. The menu is very limited and they are very proud of themselves for having the impossible burger. I've had the impossible burger in other cities and usually they don't burn it, but here they do so I would definitely not recommend wasting your experience of the impossible burger here. It is delicious when made appropriately. My mom had a normal burger and said it was good but she also had the French onion soup and said it was awful. The service was seriously Xenophobic. I'm also I was born in the US so I have no accent so they kept acting like they needed me to translate her very clear English. The service was very uncomfortable and our waitress was clearly not attentive to us at all and very distracted by the fact that my mom is not in her 30s and has an accent which you can understand perfectly. I ordered the impossible burger with white cheddar on it she gave it to me with Swiss it was pretty disgusting and it was burnt. My mom, having less than young teeth, asked for very very soft vegetables and for some reason they gave it to her Al Dante and of course she couldn't eat it. Two people came out to 'handle' this request as though it was unreasonable or unruly. They acted almost as though she was asking for something extraordinary. A person with dentures sometimes needs soft vegetables. Then we got the bill and it was a $50 bill for two garbage burgers terrible soup and terrible service. I would never come here ever again. I made a note to try this restaurant when it reopened after Pomme closed, and I chose it for a business lunch for its location. Unfortunately, I chose it before reading any Yelp reviews. Once I did check the reviews, I thought of switching, but decided to give it a try anyway. Contrary to many previous reviews, our service was actually above average. The server was friendly, timing was good, and our water glasses stayed full, which is why I gave Avenue 2 stars instead of 1. The problem was the food--my steak salad was mostly inedible. For starters, I ordered the steak med-rare and it arrived med-well to well. Interestingly, the server acknowledged when he put the plate in front of me that the meat was overcooked, but since he didn't offer to have it redone, I guess he, the kitchen, or both, hoped/expected(?) that I would eat it anyway. Because it was a business lunch and I wasn't paying, they were right--I agreed to eat it anyway. Or at least I attempted to. The worst part of the salad actually wasn't the overcooked meat, the overly pungent blue cheese or the greasy blob of caramelized onions--it was the unfortunate drenching of the spinach with a very unpleasant-tasting, extremely oily dressing. The whole plate was a greasy, shiny pile of wet spinach with about six tiny slices of beef, the aforementioned onions and icky cheese, and a few mushy tomatoes. I'm just not sure how it's possible to screw up a salad this bad unless it's on purpose, you don't care what you're serving your guests, or you have inadequate training on how to cook meat and dress greens. They can't blame it on being too busy, because there were only about 3 tables occupied. When the server cleared my plate, I had eaten no more than 20%. He didn't mention it, and I was fine with that. I definitely didn't want anything else to eat, and it would have been awkward to discuss the dish's flaws in light of the circumstances. But I will never return. read more

Went here for a linner (in between lunch and dinner) and was pleased. It was on a Sunday and there wasn't very many other places opened. The avenue is opened all day everyday which gives it a competitive advantage. The decor was warm and inviting with a lot of wood accents. Nice bar in the front and two sitting areas. They were only offering their bar menu but we had plenty of options. I got the portobello sandwich and it was delish, along with a side salad. I stole some of my friends fries which were fresh and homemade. I also got a their twist on a moscow mule and it was perfect. We were visiting from out of town, so not familiar of the location, there seems to not be very many options; this establishment reminds me of something that you would find in Denver and up and coming Foodie city!! read more

Went for restaurant week. Nice intimate atmosphere. Waitress was accommodating and moved our party to the bar area in order to take advantage of the late happy hour from 9pm-close (must be seated in this area to get deal). Started with the tomato soup which soaked perfectly into the bread provided for the table. So yeah that was good. Next for my entree I went for the Sole Muiere which was pan fried and delectable. Sides were a little plain (green beans and roasted potatoes). Finally for dessert I went with the no brainer, bread pudding. The menu said served with pear & caramel however, it was strawberries & caramel. Don't get me wrong I prefer strawberries over pears but I don't like to being lied to...it hurts. Bread pudding is supposed to be soft throughout but this BP was hard on the outside and soft in the middle. Someone forgot about it in the oven. The parts that weren't overdone were tasty though. The waitress was sweet and gave my pseudo girlfriend a candle with dessert. Her friends loved it because it gave them an excuse to bust out the filters. read more

Service was fine, pleasant waitress. Initially was told there would possibly be a wait if an hour but food came quickly. Ordered avocado toast with arugula and asparagus spinach salad with hard boiled egg. Both orders came with three very small pieces of hard stale toast with a small smear of avocado. Salad was wilted with obvious old salad that was brown on the edges with only maybe one to two pieces of egg and a scattering of asparagus pieces. Salad looked and tasted terrible. Also order drinks due to initial wait prediction. Sangria listed with fresh fruit. It arrived with one tiny piece of lemon peel in what was mostly club soda. Avenue hosted our annual company holiday party this year and they knocked it out of the park. Planning the event was a breeze, and Vicky was more than accommodating. When our guests arrived (35 people), the room was decorated beautiful and the staff was extremely attentive. The food was AMAZING and plated beautifully. The ambiance was perfect and the drinks were wonderful. The entire staff went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations, making this our best holiday party yet. read more

A group of six of us went to this restaurant on a Saturday night for a nice dinner out. We were seated quickly and the staff was courteous. The menu looked very good and two of us decided to order the salmon, which was one of the special menu items. These entrees, as well as a burger, were severely undercooked. Basically, half of our meals were improperly made. We sent them back and had to wait another 15-20 minutes before receiving them again. One of the salmon dishes was still undercooked while the other two were better. The head chef, who seemed to spend half his time while we were there in the dining room, never came by our table to apologize. In addition, when our bill arrived, we were surprised that nothing was taken off our bill. After we inquired about this, the manager did decide to remove the charges on the salmon dishes. We had a very marginal experience at this restaurant. There are multiple other places to eat in Clayton that you should consider instead. read more

I had brunch at Avenue on Sunday. I ordered the lemon-blueberry pancakes. One pancake was very lemony and the others, not-so-much. They were fine, but nothing extraordinary. My group was complaining about the portion size of the potatoes. It was a spoon full. Our food took a little while and the waiter went missing for a short time. It's a fine place for brunch, but nothing special I don't think. read more

Tried this place out for the first time today. I arrived at 12:15 and there were plenty of open tables but it filled up fast. Service was friendly and helpful even though my dish was incorrectly described to me. My main complaint is that they do not actually serve breakfast all day. They have a lunch menu and in addition they serve an omelette of the day and a quiche. Also they replace the fruit/toast sides on this dishes with a salad, but my waitress forgot to inform me of that. Oh well, I need to eat more salad anyway. My omelette was fine--I'd say the food was better than first watch but nowhere near as good as half & half. read more
