We took friends to dinner here, and wow, everyone was blown away by how great the food and the service was! Our friends were still talking about dinner the next morning and can't wait to come back the next time they are in town. Great job Josh and The Crossing crew - you knocked it out of the park!!

This review is long overdue considering we cam in February (whoops!) This is a celebration/special occasion spot for sure, but your money will be well spent and every bite is worth it. As we were celebrating my birthday, we opted for the "Premium Tasting Menu" with wine pairing. Though not stated on the menu, you can swap in the majority of the dishes from the a la carte menu. Menu highlights for me included the Spanish octopus & the quail. At the recommendation of our server, we tried the Lemon Semifreddo for dessert and were pleased. No dish was bad though, unless you are absolutely opposed to some flavor I don't think you can go wrong. Other special touches: a card at the table wishing me a happy birthday and a bonus sample of the octopus since we had mentioned to our server we wanted to try it. Our server was top notch - perfectly attentive, provided good advice, and didn't rush us. I loved the art (from a local artist) around the restaurant, and our table in a small nook was a fun spot. Next time we have reason to celebrate I'd put this at the top of the list to return.

There is nothing happier than a French girl at a French restaurant eating foie gras and cheesy bread. This is to say, I loved this restaurant. Perfect date night spot. The vibe is definitely classy, and you want to dress up. Our waiter was SO friendly and we quickly had a good rapport with him. You can order a la carte here or get the tasting menu. I recommend the tasting menu. For value, it's pretty great, and you get to try a lot more things (especially if you and your partner get different things and split). We each got the 4-course tasting menu, at around $75 per person with some upcharges for certain items, allowing us to try 8 dishes. ALSO, they came out with complimentary crostinis and melted cheese, as well as bread and butter, before our courses began coming out. I'll give a brief description and rating of each course, but I'll just say that generally, you likely can't go wrong here. Steak Tartare: 5/10 - I love steak tartare but the ratio of yolk to meat was too high. The steak was fresh and tasty, though. Also a hefty portion for a starter. Beet Salad: 8.5/10 - Loved this! It comes presented in a unique "layered" style, and the interplay of the creamy goat cheese and crunchier beets is awesome. Foie gras: 9/10 - Like I said, I just love foie gras. It's rare that places do it well without turning it into a paste. This is where it's at. And pairing it with berries is something I do when I make it at home too, so overall, big win. I do think this is a special, though, so unfortunately may not be available always. Escargot: 8/10 - This was a fun take on escargot, as you usually just see it in garlic butter. This had a bit of a different sauce, thicker and emulsified. The escargot were also well cooked and not too chewy. Quail: 8/10 - Surprisingly had a good portion of quail meat, which can sometimes be hard to find with this foul. The butternut squash and mushrooms on the side felt like a good umami coupling to the less rich meat, which itself was super moist1 Steak: 7/10 - Not the best steak. We got it rare which it was, but even then, the meat itself was so soft and squishy that it was a bit texturally weird. I normally get steak "Pittsburgh" style, so it's not an issue of it being too "rare." Otherwise, the mashed potatoes on the side were SO good we couldn't get enough. Chocolate Torte: 9/10 - YUMMY! If you like chocolate, you like this. The fudginess of this torte is so lovely. And with the vanilla gelato, you can't go wrong! Chai creme brûlée: 7/10 - A bit soupy for my liking, but the chai flavor, while subtle, was fun and unique.

Always a great experience. Excellent service and excellent food. This spot continues to be a favorite for special occasions. One of the best restaurants in St. Louis.

Wowwwwww. I'll start with that. I was looking for a good spot for our first wedding anniversary and this spot kept coming up in recommendations. There's a reason for that. We made a reservation and they had a cute little note at the table for us. The service was incredible all night. We were so amazed at how well we were taken care of - not just by our waitress but the bar staff, kitchen, literally never went without anything. We did the grand tasting menu and holy. Moly. This was one of the best meals we've ever had. Truly. I'll try to remember all the courses - Tuna tartare with creme fraiche for our first course, seared cod (I'm not a huge fish eater but woah), whitefish stew (flaky fish), house made pasta which was incredible, tender duck, local beef, dessert. So much food, we did not go hungry. Everything was so well spiced, sauced, and cooked to perfection. This is definitely a splurge meal, we shared a bottle of wine and with tip it was upwards of $500 but for our first anniversary it was 100% worth it. Highly recommend for your next big celebration.

    Delicious food, wine and bread!

Wow!! This place completely exceeded my husband and I's expectations! We got lucky and they had a cancellation on a Saturday night! The minute we walked in we were blown away by the service and attention to detail. The wait staff was fabulous and our server Joseph was exceptional. He made fantastic recommendations, wine and food!!! It was the best meal we've had in years, if not ever. Do yourself a favor and come try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!!

One of the very best dining experiences I've ever had! We enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing and every single course was full of flavor and unique in some way. It was our first time eating here, so it was such a great way to try many of their menu favorites. And I loved that they didn't bring us both the same thing for each course, allowing us to try even more! The wines were paired perfectly, too. Our server was also fantastic. Can't wait to eat here again!

I have been to the Crossing two times now and both visits have been fantastic. This visit was to celebrate a birthday so we did the chefs grand tasting. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is somewhat small so reservations are recommended. Service is quality with both servers and assistance helping out with Plate delivery and keeping your table clear. The food is always an experience here and allows you to step out of your comfort zone and enjoy every moment of it. I would definitely recommend the wine pairing with it

This is definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion or to have just an all around great meal with great service. When you first walked in you are greeted by the hostess and if you have a reservation (and you do need reservations here on the weekend) they walk you to your table. It is a classy feel with white tableclothes and proper silverware that they refresh after each course. We alway get the tasting menu (4 courses) which is a great way to get a taste of so much of their good food. It is smaller plates than their regular menu but you will definitely be full by the end of the night. They also have a great bar and wine selection. Their menu changes based off the season. Usually they do have the Tagliatelle with beef ragu bolognese which is amazing. Ask the waiter/waitress for their suggestions and guidance, we have never been steered wrong. Also if you like the complimentary cheese souffle they give you at the beginning you can order another one. Overall we try to come here a couple times a year. It is highly recommended.

Girl Dinner October 2025: The Crossing in Clayton We did the prixe fixe tasting menu for $75 each... First Course we opted for: Roasted Beet Salad - Goat cheese, mascarpone, toasted pine nuts, shallots, sherry vinegar. (I dont normally care for beets but this was delicious!) Hamachi Crudo* - Lemon zest, chives, wasabi creme, trout roe, chili oil. (I could eat this every day!) Second Course: Spanish Octopus - Tonnato, basil, English peas, smoked potatoes, arugula, pickled peppers, balsamic reduction. (I LOVE octopus but this one left me slightly underwhelmed. It was a little overcooked and chewy.) We also had chefs creation spinach cannoli but I don't recall how it was made. Main course we opted for Missouri Grassfed Prime NY Strip with Pomme purée, broccoli, carrots, bone marrow butter Plus Nantucket Sea Scallops with Crushed potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, romaine, Parmigiano-Reggiano, lemon truffle. I was so full after this and didn't get pics of the desserts but none of them wowed us. Overall really good. Our hostess was amazing. The space was packed but didn't feel crowded.

I enjoyed an excellent birthday meal here back in April! My mom found the restaurant online, and thought it looked great for a special occasion. She was definitely right! The environment is unique-- upscale and refined yet very comfortable! Our server was very friendly without crowding us, and gave us great service throughout the evening. I opted for the tasting menu, which I thought was an excellent value at $65. They said the portions would be a little smaller than ordering each course a la carte, but I have a pretty big appetite and was totally satisfied. Of note was their delicious mushroom tagliatelle, which I had as my second course. But every course was excellent, from their complimentary homemade bread to the warm chocolate torte! I'd highly recommend The Crossing for a special dinner, or just a nice night out!

The food and presentation was spectacular, the staff was friendly and I highly recommend it.

After we paid (and tipped 30%), we were abruptly told by the hostess to leave the table and move outside to finish the drinks we had just ordered. We awkwardly gathered our belongings without protest and were rushed outside unassisted, with the other patrons staring at us. As we exited, we heard the server reappear and graciously apologize to the waiting party, offering them champagne. The table outside was set when we arrived but then actively cleared by the busser after we sat down. No one came back to check in. We felt unwelcome and quickly left. It was unnecessarily uncomfortable and put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory meal. This was a service failure. I understand the need to turn tables over quickly, but we should have been given at least 5 minutes notice, especially when the kitchen is running behind. Alternatively, the drinks could have been taken off the bill and we could have left outright. Even help moving or any involvement from our server or the manager would have been appreciated, but they were not present. Having had many great experiences at Vicia, I expected more from the take root hospitality group. We'll give Vicia another chance, but I'll be cautious about trying one of their sister restaurants again With the impending closure, this one may have already given up.

The cocktail menu and RW menu were fabulous, and yet bringing it all to life with effusive knowledge and enthusiasm about the various dishes was our outstanding server, Corinthian. She shared interesting and incredible insight on each offering, making us feel valued and appreciated patrons, advising based on our interests and likes to help us make decisions. Each of us was pleased with our various selections. While the soups were tempting on a cold night, I was delighted with the French-inspired Lyonnaise salad complete with a perfectly prepared soft boiled egg. My panko-encrusted swordfish with burre Blanc sauce was light and tasty. The gooey butter beignets were light on the gooey butter custard-like filling, as promised by our server (and more special than the typical St. Louis dessert), sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with chocolate. The ample dessert (3) provided take home leftovers for delicious breakfast treats. The cocktails I enjoyed included a Japanese Old Fashioned & an Espresso Martini, both very good. Initially upon arrival, an adjacent table of younger women was unusually loud (in a space that doesn't absorb noise well) that I feared would spoil our evening; rather than approach them (tempted) or engage management, I glared a few times at them and it seemed to have resolved. Overall, this was a very enjoyable, comfortable, and satisfying dinner; we would return.

I ordered a smoked turkey soup while hubby ordered up his signature French Onion soup - we also ordered up a 1/2 charcuterie board - good news? The soups were just great, really. We ate 'em up quickly! The charcuterie board? Ok - where to start? The salami and prosciutto were great. The cheddar cheese was way too basic and (dare I say) a couple pieces were hardening up- yikes! Fresh it was not. The other cheese was unable to be ID'd and was kind of "bread like" - not good. But the bread (crostini)? Oh my goodness- hard as a rock. Not good at all. So we ate up the meat, some of the cheddar - and left most of that funky cheese and that hard bread. The hummus and fig spread was great, though - so no issues there. Hmm. So this was a mixed bag. But the surprise came - partly my fault, I know - I asked for a shot of their most expensive Scotch on the rocks. I should have asked the price - just over $100 for a shot! We didn't know this and only wish the bartender would have asked me to confirm the order by saying "the one I have is over $100/shot - are you sure you want it!" - but that didn't happen, darn it. So we paid up - and I swore never to order nothing but basic Scotch going forward! So - the soups and beers were great - but we suggest staying away from the charcuterie board until the bread and cheese selections are tweaked a bit more!

We started with the Korean fried cauliflower and it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The batter was light, fluffy, and crispy, and the gochujang sauce with the mayo was sweet and sticky in the best way. Since it's a butchery, we had to try the steaks. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.

I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.

Overrated, over hyped. Fun decor however ambiance is way too loud. Food took forever, at least 45…read moreminutes between appetizer and mains. Mains were oversalted and the crust on the burger tasted more burnt than anything. Brussel side was meh. Asparagus was ok. Rabbit main was oversalted and I bit into a bone fragment. Now I know why reservations are booked so far out, they can't turn over tables in a reasonable time because the service is so slow.
