In hindsight I'm glad that my family and I made the difficult decision to place her when we did and before she was in the later stages of ALZ. i will be eternally grateful to Oak Park Manor and their staff. It takes a special kind of person to do that for a living, day in and day out. The atmosphere at Oak Park is very much like a home setting making the transition easier for both the patient and the family members of the patient. Toward the end stages of the disease my mom was wearing other patients clothes, needed assistance with using the restroom which meant she sometimes soiled herself. She eventually stopped eating and speaking. Not because of anything Oak Park did or didnt do, it was due to the progression of the horrible disease eating away at her brain loosing the ability to function normally. One of the reasons that we selected Oak Park Manor it was listed on the dept of health website as an approved facility who accepts the assisted living waiver program. The program provides financial assistance to those who qualify.
