Our garage door springs broke in the 4th of July. I reached out to Jesse, owner of Avila's Garage Doors thinking I wouldn't hear back till the next day or possibly Monday given it was a holiday weekend. I was so grateful to hear back with a few minutes of my call. I sent him a photo of the springs and luckily he was able to do repair the next morning, bright and early and at the agreed upon time. He was great. He explained the process, inspected the mechanics of the door and actually found a loose bracket that held the springs. He showed us the "give" in the bracket that was a huge safety issue. He fixed it for us. He was detailed in the inspection and clean about his work. We were extremely pleased with everything. Above all, he is a local small business owner and nice young man. We could tell he took pride in the quality of his work. On Friday, our Garage door started acting up. First, there were weird sounds, and then only a hum would emanate when depressing the button. No movement at all from the motor, or the door. I am pretty sure this Genie was the original one installed when the house was born, in 1999. On Monday, I requested a quote using YELP from two highly reviewed companies in the Coachella Valley. Jesse from Avila's responded quickly, detailing it could be various issues. He agreed to come by the next day to trouble shoot. No mention of a service call fee whatsoever. The second company merely sent a note saying the motor was probably fried, and that I would need a new one. That would cost $400 for a regular sized door, and $450 if our door was 8 feet tall. It isn't, and you are FIRED!! Jesse from Avila's arrived on Tuesday and checked out the unit. After a few minutes, he stated a new unit would in fact be necessary. He mentioned that he could install either a chain, or belt drive unit off of his truck. Both prices were lower than the ones listed above. He did recommend the belt drive because it is quieter. He also assured me that Chamberlain would be his preferred choice. But, there was a third option. He said I could get my own unit, and he would merely charge me an installation fee. If I went this route, I could save circa $100. This gave me time to do scour online and I ended up ordering a WI-FI ready Chamberlain motor on Amazon that same day. Repeat after me......two day delivery. On Friday, Jesse came out and performed the installation. He was very communicative and gave me the feeling that my business was very important. I felt bad because I chatted him up, but he came across as honest and trustworthy. In the end, I forked out $282 total for a professional job. Jesse impressed with his knowledge and humble demeanor. He was also very consistent with updates and answers via email. If you EVER require some work on your garage door, do not hesitate in contacting Avila's first. You will not regret it. read more
