Renter beware!! They have a fantastic scam going on here. Regardless of how clean you return your rental sedan, the errand boy will complain it is too dirty. The paper pusher will agree, and from then on, it is a "Wash the car by yourself, else it is a $70 charge" threat. And for what? Bug splatter on the front grille and some rain and road spray. To top it off, the car is not properly cleaned when rented ... I found enjoy food cartons in the trunk a day after I picked it up. When I was carrying my four year old, the assistant literally dangled the keys in my face saying "You want a 70$ charge?" and muttering racist remarks under his breath. Condescending pricks. The staff at this location is so rude and dishonest. I couldn't add an additional driver even though I had a copy of their DL. They suggested I go later that night to an airport location to add them in person. The staff couldn't explain why this policy is in place. "I only do that I'm told". They also have a $75 cleaning for any vehicle that was driven in snow that they showed me after driving back from Tahoe. I also noticed that snow chains were prohibited. read more

My friend was just at this location 11/01/25, after having made a reservation online yesterday with the Budget website. He received both a confirmation email AND a text over his phone. He was good to go; he had a car confirmed, which he was counting on. However, when he got to this location, he was told by a male employee in a Batman shirt that there were no cars available for him. The employee told my friend that they "tried to call" to tell him this but they "had no phone number in the system." How could this be truthful when my friend said providing one's phone number is MANDATORY when reserving a car on the website? AND Budget had his phone number to text him his confirmation the day before! The employee apologized for the inconvenience, but my friend perceived this as apathetic and hollow. My friend thought the employee's attitude was unhelpful as the employee most certainly did not offer any solutions, such as bringing in a car from another Budget location. Absolutely no customer service was offered at all! My friend Ubered to this location ($$) and now has to spend more money Uber to a rental car place that will actually make good on his reservation. This is a cautionary tale that if you make a car rental reservation online for this Budget location, always follow up with a phone call. Especially if you don't have a ride waiting should the CONFIRMED car rental fall through. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

I'm not quite sure why this Neighborhood Avis has such bad reviews. My experience was smooth and flawless. I rented a car less than 24 hours in advance. When I arrived to pick up, the associate was super kind and had me in and out with my car in under 5 minutes. Because of low stock I was even upgraded to a nice hybrid at no extra cost. To the point: incompetence and dishonesty. Go else where, better options everywhere I was charged for 41 days instead of 8. I returned the car after an 8 day rental. A month later I receive a text message from my bank about a $1,400 charge from that rental. I went to the location just to be told to call customer support that they can't only open and close contracts. I call customer support a few days later to find out that the contract was closed on the day that I went to ask about the charge. Nor Avis not this location assume any responsibility. The folks who work here have zero regard for the customer. They openly say that they have nothing to do with Avis. Talk to customer service and they are equally bad. Got the worst car. Asked for a AWD SUV as I was going to the snow for the weekend. On the phone really nice and held one for me. Got a RAV4.. looked clean for having 61k miles. While driving up car would shake past 70mph. Windshield wipes were old and could clean very well. When we got to the snow we're having traction problems. Got a flat. Noticed the tires were almost bald, hardly any tread left. Tow guy even noted these were so worn they were unsafe. Left a day early as didn't feel comfortable driving in snowy weather with no tread. When I returned the car the guy couldn't care less that I had issues with the car and implied that it was due for maintenance anyway. read more

Other onsite employee Austine promised free upgrade as inconveniences of cancelling my reserv. prematurely (and she made a new reservation to make it up) but manager Joel outright denied everything and even the employee's existence (direct lies). He does not have any sympathy or helpful attitude towards customer's inconvenience and talks like he is the boss to customer and defines or defies the company policy. He kept claiming he is the RULES at HIS store. I had to use Avis because of employer insurance and they treat business rental like nothing. Please choose other rental companies or location. After hitting the Taco Bell drive through (same parking lot as the AVIS) for lunch on March 19th, I circled the parking lot to find a shaded parking spot to eat in. As I finished pulling in to the first spot that fit the bill, I hear loud honking from behind me, look around, and see that a bearded fellow in a red polo shirt and backwards cap was flipping me off and smashing the horn of the vehicle he was driving just behind my car. Seeing as how I in no way cut this guy off or stole his spot, I laughed it off but also kept my eye on the guy. As I was eating, I noticed this same amped up guy aggressively hitting his vaporizer, while getting in to about a dozen different cars, and shuffling them from one parking spot to another. I then realized that he must work for the AVIS rental car spot about 50 ft from the Taco Bell (though I'm not sure what the point of shuffling cars around the lot is). Joel, who seems to be the manager, is very unpleasant. I needed to rent a car for a few weeks while my wife's car is in the shop, and unfortunately I had to go with Avis. When I arrived to pick up the rental, he quickly became patronizing and wouldn't help with anything I asked about. As soon as I started driving, I noticed the brake was squealing, so I went back and told them about it. Joel flat out denied that it was squealing even though I could tell it was quite loud. Thankfully, the other employee (I don't know his name unfortunately) was much more helpful and went out with me to see what I was talking about, and made a note of the issue. I will never rent from this location again, and I'll definitely think twice before renting from Avis in the future. Also, when I got the car, it looked like it hadn't been washed in months. I agree with other customers on Yelp - Budget is a horrible car rental company. The company has very poor customer service and dirty car rentals. Earlier this month, my husband and I booked and paid for a rental car on the Budget website. Today, we went to pick up the rental car. Everything was going great until the representative said our credit score couldn't bypass the system. Basically, he couldn't give us the rental car that WE WERE ALREADY CHARGED FOR. My husband and I were very upset and showed the representative that our credit score was above 600 through Credit Karma. The representative was apathetic and handed my husband a card to call Equifax. Also, he gave us a number to call Budget to get our refund, LOOKING LIKE HE COULD CARE LESS ABOUT OUR SITUATION. Luckily, our good friend, who was traveling with us, came to Budget to book the rental car my husband and I originally reserved (we wanted to book with Enterprise or Hertz at this point, but we were on a time crunch). The representative was kind enough to upgrade us to a premium DIRTY rental car. An hour riding in the rental car, I found a nasty Cheeto underneath the passenger seat. Also, we noticed a nasty brown stain on the passenger side's sun visor. Oh, and did I mention the foot print on the passenger seat? It's very evident they don't clean their cars. My final thoughts: Budget is a crooked company. Their dirty rental cars are a clear reflection of their employees attitudes and poor leadership. We took the car from this location for a day rental, we checked at another location regarding the drop off time, and had them update it as well and was ensured there is will not be any extra charge. ( we picked the car at the 9 am and returned at 9 next day) we were still charged extra and the person offered no explanation. I wish I could give this location zero stars! Where do I even start with all the things that were wrong with my experience... My company had made arrangements for me to have a car with a GPS. When I informed the guy at the counter of this, he said he just rented out the last GPS to the customer before me. I informed him that I specifically made a reservation for one and his response was that it doesn't show up in their system when I customer reserves one. His solution was to have me drive to the airport to pick one up. Unbelievable. Luckily it's 2018 and everyone has a smartphone with a GPS so I was fine, but based on principle this is ridiculous. I finally made it out to my car and there were empty boxes in the trunk that smelled like meat. I also found a water bottle under one of the seats. Do they even clean their cars?! The kicker was when I noticed a pretty significant scratch on the rear bumper and brought it to their attention before driving the car out of the lot and they said "oh yeah, we knew about that already and it's in our system". Really? And you didn't think that was information that I should have been informed of? I honestly didn't believe them and made them give me an itemized description of all the dings on the car before I left so I don't get pinned for anything. For Christmas break, my wife and I drove up to her hometown in Oregon and, like we always do for our road trips, rented a car from Avis. We do this because I had come to trust that they inspected their cars (or at least were new enough that nothing would be wrong with them). The trip up from San Jose goes through the mountains at some pretty high elevations where there is usually snow and almost always some rain. I asked for an AWD/4WD vehicle at the counter and they tried to up sell me, but I trust my driving in a RWD vehicle as it's what I grew up on so I declined the 40% increase on the already inflated holiday rate. They offered me a Charger R/T, and being a car guy I couldn't turn it down. Luckily, it didn't rain or snow on the way there because the rear tires were completely bald (photo attached). I'm not talking "hey those tires are looking low," I'm talking "you shouldn't drive with those drag slicks on the street." I didn't look at the tires when I picked it up because it was 8:00am, we were already late getting on the road for our 10 hr. drive, and I trusted the car rental company to get the car (the only hard product they service) ready. My trust in Avis could have cost me thousands of dollars in insurance repairs and/or my or my wife's life. My wife's grandfather noticed the tires Sunday when he was unloading his car, and I called Avis corporate the next morning who they told me I had two options: drive 1 hour to the closest Avis and exchange the car or drive 1 hour to the closest Avis that can replace tires get them replaced. These were the same place. I called Christmas Eve and made the drive the day after Christmas when they were open. First an hour to the Avis, then 15 minutes to the Firestone, then I waited 1 hour for the service (great guy, Kaleb, at Firestone in Eugene), and finally drove an hour back. Funny enough, on the inspection sheet at Firestone, instead of just checking the red box for tire condition Kaleb put a "B" for bald. (photo attached) Long morning, but now had a safe car. They'd reimburse me for the gas at least, right? After returning the vehicle in San Jose the following Monday and sharing my story with the service counter, they said there's nothing they can do and I had to call corporate. Cool. I called and explained my story again, and corporate was not impressed. She actually told me I didn't call this past Monday but made a note to "inspect the cars more thoroughly" (ha!) and was sorry as instructed. Oh, I was offered a $20 coupon for a future rental. No offer to reimburse my gas or time on a 2 hour roundtrip to do a job that should've been done before I got the car. Gilbert took a very long time to arrange a car and when I said I had preferred membership which means the pick up and drop off should be easy, his reply was: I don't know how to do it. Gilbert went to get a car, and finally I was in however the oil light came on straight away! Do they even check the cars?! Then it took longer to get a replacement. I was in a rush to get somewhere but it took me almost an hour to get the car! I am disappointed and will avoid going back there and probably Avis altogether. I called this location to reserve a Dodge Charger. Although I arrived 30 mins late, they gave away my rental to someone else. I was out of luck to rent anything from them because that was the last car there. And to make things worse, the person who helped me over the phone to begin with didn't get my email OR phone number correct, so there was no way for them to notify me that my car would not be available anymore. When I arrived I asked if he could check availability at other Avis locations for the car I was looking for. The rep there told me "you can call the other locations, the number should be available on google" I could tell this guy just didn't want to help me at all, worst customer service ever!!! I asked if he could give me a direct number because the last number I tried calling, didn't even take my number down corrrectly. And the guy just searched up Avis on his phone and shoved his phone in my face. I DON'T recommend this location to anybody unless you're looking to waste your time with rude and unprofessional people. I DO recommend going to the Avis location off Middlefield in Mountain View!! They almost always have some inventory available, and the workers there go above and beyond to make sure you are well taken care of! First off I want to say: I wasn't even paying for this car rental. Subaru was, since they were working on a recall for my car. But getting something for free is sometimes more of a burden than not having it at all. I picked up my rental car on a Monday morning; Edward the Avis Guy (TM) was perfectly pleasant & professional-seeming at the time. I took it the 7-minute drive straight home, & parked it in my ant-free garage. (This odd little detail will make sense in a moment.) Later that afternoon I went down to the garage to put something away, & noticed an ant on the rental car. Huh. *squish* Then another. *squish* Then I saw the scattered lines of ants, swarming all over the outside of the car... & began to freak out a little. You see, when I was but a wee girl... I will not relay ALL the details of that traumatic day, but it ended with me being stripped nearly naked & hosed down in the front yard by my parents because the little buggers (red ants, not my parents) waited until they were ALL OVER ME before they started to bite. Naturally, I developed a completely rational hatred of their species. Anyway. Back to the ant-covered car. I hoped to God the ants were not INSIDE the car as well, but my hopes were dashed when I opened the door & saw them swarming all over the center console. More than a *little* freaked out now, I went back upstairs, grabbed the car key, & psyched myself up to get in the car long enough to move it OUT of the garage, so they'd be contained to the car & not get all over my garage and house as well. Shuddering, I did that as quickly as possible, brushed myself off, & felt phantom ants crawling on me for hours afterward. I called Avis & spoke to Edward, who said "I cleaned the car this morning." (Does this sound like victim-blaming to you? Or at the very least, responsibility avoidance? Because it did to me. And it would later be proven false when I inspected the car more closely.) Then he said there's nothing he can do unless I bring the car back. Yes, I had to get into a car that was crawling with my arch-enemies & drive it back. I mentioned my phobia & suggested he bring me a new rental and take this one away -- he said he couldn't do that because I'm more than 2 miles away (barely) & he's not allowed. He said he'd think of a solution & call me back the next day. Tuesday: No call. All day. My husband came home from work early so that I could use his car to get to an afternoon appointment. Wednesday: I went out to look at the car to see if the ants had gone, & I noticed something. A crumpled receipt on the driver-side floor. Another receipt on the passenger side floor, in plain sight, with another customer's name & a date from the previous Saturday. ANOTHER receipt tucked into the center console. So much for Edward "cleaning the car" -- unless it's standard practice to leave trash lying about? Because of the drought, maybe? I dunno. There was also what looked like melted ice cream on the armrest in the backseat. Possibly what the ants were after, in that totally "clean" car. GUESS WHAT? Yeah, still no call from Lying Edward. I tried to call but kept getting routed to the main call center, who unhelpfully told me that I had to resolve it with the local office. That would be Edward. (He'd told me he's the only one who works there.) My Subaru rep couldn't get ahold of him either. I tried again a few times & kept getting rerouted. Thursday: Subaru called -- My car is ready! My beautiful, ant-free car! ... but in order to get it back, I had to get into the ant-infested rental & return it first. Steeling myself for psychological & potentially physical pain, I took a look. There were only a few ants crawling around this time. I squished the obvious ones, took a deep breath, got in the car, & drove it back the rental office, praying that I wouldn't wake the whole swarm before I got there. When I arrived, Edward would barely look at me. I said, "Hi! You never called me back!" He said, "I didn't have a solution!" ZERO APOLOGY. I told him the car clearly was NOT cleaned & why did he tell me it was? He doubled down & said he'd cleaned it. STILL NO APOLOGY. Now I was getting super pissed. I mentioned he had not apologized for any of this. Stony-faced total-lack-of-apology. He was trying very hard not to talk to me at all, to process the return, & to get rid of me as soon as possible. This is not how a customer-service person should treat a customer. I understand that he (probably?) didn't mean to give me a car full of ants. Things happen. I'm not mad about that -- I'm mad about the fact that he LIED TO ME, ignored the problem, failed to find a solution, NEVER CALLED ME BACK as promised, & NEVER APOLOGIZED. Maybe he misremembered & didn't mean to lie. Fine. But when the truth was pointed out, he doubled down & still claimed he cleaned the car, pushing the blame onto me. NOT OKAY, EDWARD. NOT OKAY. The car, and the whole experience: WORSE THAN USELESS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. read more

We travel a lot and rent a car is something we do often and this is the first time we called Budget/Avis to make a reservation first before we picked up a car. First off, the car was not clean and smelled so bad. We also found some body odor care items inside of the compartment left by previous renters. When we returned the car in two days, they charged us a whole week rate. We questioned the guy behind the counter, he said he couldn't do anything to fix it. The only way is that we have to call the 800 number to correct it. So, we did. It has been more than 3 days now, and we still have trouble to get the correct receipt. It was totally a mess!!! Don't do it. Lots of choices. This places charged me for gas despite having a full tank. They recognized the error on the spot but said they couldn't figure it out and my best course of action was to call customer service on my own. Either they have a training issue or this satellite office isn't set up to run like a real branch therefore of something goes wrong and you'll spend hours in the phone explaining it instead of it being managed at the counter appropriately. I needed AWD car to go to Tahoe in the winter. I came here a day before my travel to check the cars they have. They showed me several cars and I picked Toyota 4Runner. Next day my car waited for me. The customer service was good. The only inconvenience was that I had to wash the car myself before returning it. Overall I had a great experience. read more

I've rented here quite a few time when my car needed servicing or I'm without a car. This isn't quite as convenient as an airport location (no after hours drop offs) but I've never been left stranded or had issues like others described in the reviews. Horrible x 2. Picked up a dirty car with less than a half tank of gas. Upon return with over a half tank, my phone pings from a credit card charge of $58 dollars from this place "for gas". It took an hour to remove it. Then they don't remove all of it and Joel is arguing with me that he "remembers" my rental cost being over $200 instead of the $199 I clearly had written down. I had to then dig through all of my luggage to find original contract showing $199 and the half tank of gas. No apology just time suck and attitude. My previous visit involved overcharging and again took hours with combative Joel to fix. Update 3 days after returning my car: they charged me another $141 and credited my card $11. I have no idea why they did this, especially since my contract clearly stated that I was not to be charged for anything. Subaru was supposed to pay for the rental. Update immediately after returning my car: they charged me a random $45.37 and when I went in to ask why, Mimi claims she didn't make this charge. I showed her the charge on my banking app to prove she definitely did, but she's adamant I wasn't charged anything. However, she refuses to put this in writing so I suspect there's something shady going on here. Original review: Holy Jesus Mimi has no clue what she's doing. I suspected as much when I rented my car a few days ago and she seemed kinda ditsy, but I'm back trying to return the car and the poor customer in front of me is being given the biggest run-around I've ever seen. I've been here almost 30 minutes and she's accomplished exactly nothing. The customer has a reservation & a voucher paid for by her company, has offered 3 different credit cards for the security deposit, and says she rented from AVIS 3 times using that card in 2017. Mimi, the lady working here, just has absolutely no clue what to do with a voucher, doesn't understand the difference between credit and debit, and is altogether clueless about every aspect of her job. Update: the customer in front of me gave up and went to another Avis location to figure it out. Very poor customer service! In January 2017 Subaru (who was supposed to cover the cost) set me up with Avis. After returning car and paperwork stating Subaru covering the cost I was charged $155 by Avis for cost of rental car. Called Avis and Subaru and both admitted there had been a mistake made and they would reverse credit card charge. Now it is May 2017 and reversal never happened. After many calls to Avis Stevens Creek and Subaru I am left with the bill. Not a good recommendation for Subaru Stevens Creek either. No one cared. read more

Came to drop of my car I was rented. Upon arriving 5 other people were here to return a car. No one was inside the building and there was no note. Eventually after being on hold, a girl came running apologizing that she was gone. She took someone to Subaru (YOU COULD HAVE WALKED) and usually they have a sign but no one put it up. Bonus about my rental was that it was a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe for the mountains. The gentleman behind the counter was fast, proficient and super nice.
