I rented a car in ATL and returned it to CLT. Filled the car up with gas prior to the return about 1/2 mile away from the airport at the local Mobil station next to the 7-11. I returned the car at about 5:15 pm but they have my return time at 4:57 which is impossible. They charged me a refueling fee at $10.99 per gallon for 6 gallons of gas. I complained via email (because I was on an airplane) and basically I was told that I am wrong. WHAT??? I FILLED UP THE TANK!!!!!! How dare you Avis. The car had a nail in the tire from the get go but the nail seemed to be ok and air was not escaping. The blinker didn't work and the back up camera stayed on even when going forward. The car was crap but we didn't complain or try to change it out and just dealt with it. But now you can all hear about it. It just takes one time of something like this happening to you. It's all about how things are resolved as I understand bad things happen in any compnay but Avis has not tried to make things right and for that they get a one star review. Terrible location. Placed a corporate account reservation and when I arrived i was told my car was given to someone else. Agent provided zero assistance in setting up a new reservation at a different location. Terrible service do not use this location. The guy could not care less. read more

After reserving a standard compact vehicle days in advance, I was informed upon arrival there was no compact available, and that I would be forced to pay an upgrade fee (~$50/day) despite no forewarning that my reserved car was unavailable. Not only was the lack of advanced communication unacceptable, but the inability to cover the forced upgrade is unheard of when the business is at-fault (for a Toyota Rav4 nonetheless). Owner/operator said he would cut the upgrade fee in half, and then proceeded to charge me the full rate. This clown should have his franchise license pulled. read more

Do NOT do business with this location. Read this and other Yelp reviews and you'll see why. Only one vehicle was available when I went to pick up my car at 830 am and it was a minivan. DAVE was rude from the start ... and seemed to take pleasure in telling me that i would have to pay MORE for the minivan even though it was the only vehicle available. I had prepaid for a standard or maybe it was a full size car several days before and had a double upgrade option. I always rent from avis and have often had this situation where the car I reserved is not available and they offer me whatever is available at no extra charge. I explained this to him and he started to recite a fake policy about only getting two levels above the car you reserved and even though that would have qualified me for a PREMIUM car, a minivan is an altogether different type of vehicle. I left, called Avis customer service who confirmed that is NOT the policy and they helped get me a car from the Charlotte airport. And the number for the owner/operator is never answered so I have been unable to lodge a complaint directly with the owner who would surely fire DAVE if he or she knew. I wish I had rented a car from another company. After my flight, I waited in line for a long time. Once I reached the desk, I was told they had given my car to someone else earlier in the day (???). Then they gave me the contract and told me where to find the car. I went upstairs and found the car, but its battery was dead. Then I went back down and let them know, holding up other people who had been waiting in line. I was told to go to a new spot with a new car, but after going upstairs, the spot was empty. There was no car. So then I ran down again and let them know. Fortunately, the workers were great and personally went upstairs to find me a car and ensured it worked. Rented a car from avis a month in advance for our trip to north Carolina and prepaid for the rental. 2hours before we were to pickup the car we were called and told no cars were available and to call customer service for another close by rental place. Customer service was unable to provide us a car and even seemed reluctant to refund our money. The supervisor at avis was no help, so basically avis/budget car rental,left us stranded in an unfamiliar city with no way to get to our next destination . She was rude and I had to call the police on her, the manager Veronica was being very unprofessional and did not care. If I can give -5 stars I would. They're crooks just like enterprise. Having a rental more than a week or so they continuously charge your card. which is fine to update/bring charges current. That I understand since I'm sure people burn them too. But what gets me even though My charges are updated and decided to keep their car longer due to work. Suddenly out of the blue, they get delusional and act weird/unprofessional saying their car must be damaged or stolen. That's the only reason I haven't returned it which is untrue actually busy with work assignments. Their service turns grim, their rapport becomes threatening and much much more from abusive even management gives same treatment, poor overall demeanor, and customer service completely thrown out of the window even though your a "VIP/Gold/Preferred" member, suddenly they want the vehicle returned yesterday and I'm supposed to stop everything and go immediately to their renting office even though I'm far away and in the middle of work they also try to charge you a bunch of tacked on extra fees/penalties even though all payments are current and you are in good standing as far as charges. I've even had dealership oil services performed, tire rotations/rebalance wheels, wiper blades replaced, every so often depending on situation sometimes complete detail if not always washed/cleaned prior to returns, gas filled most of the time, and I was paying for those items my own dime since I had the vehicle. No reimbursement not even a thank you. None of that matters! I certainly do not treat my clients nor anyone in that manner unless they've earned the disrespect. There were times being completely livid I almost went and waited for the individual to get off work so we can personally address their manners but retracted such thought to be a better person. lWhat a joke! Clowns in a circus. go support smaller operations that still value their customers, give respect, and just maybe when all of these Corps start losing major lost capital, budgets vanished, and employees are being chopped off due to earning. I've asked for regional support and no return calls/emails or follow up. But weekly I get an email with their "specials" and how I earned a VIP status of sorts . Someday They will realize WHO is actually important and will start to respect their clients not just overcharge them and treat them like dirt sometimes worse aka my experience with several enterprise locations including fletcher jones Mercedes on site location. Darn it !! One star is the minimum? At any rate ... I picked up a rental reservation in Charlotte, NC. When I went out to the parking lot to grab the vehicle, the attendants were not in sight. After wandering around for a couple minutes somebody came to me and ask if I needed any help. I showed them my paperwork and told them I was picking up a Chevy volt. The attendants were sleeping in the vehicle! The car smelled like a chimney , the hybrid battery was dead and the tags were expired. I asked for another vehicle and the attendant said to tell the front desk that another car (a Nissan) was fully ready to go. The lady at the front desk would NOT allow me to exchange the vehicle even though there were vehicles in the lot and told me to come back tmrw to see if another compact was available. Would you drive your personal vehicle around showing expired tags?! For a company to allow the inconvenience of being pulled over to then see it's a rental is UNSATISFACTORY and UNACCEPTABLE The customer service at this location is TERRIBLE and I will NOT be renting from Avis again. read more

Incredulous. We reserved a car to drive to a friend's wedding, a month in advance, for pickup at 12:30pm. On the day we reserved pick-up, we arrived at 12:25pm to be told that they were out of that class of car... After taking our reservation for said car, at said time, a month in advance. They even refused a free upgrade, and said we could either wait for one to be returned, or pay to upgrade. Not willing to be taken advantage of, we waited for a bit. Lo and behold, twenty minutes later, they called us back over. Two, maybe three people had been by the window while we waited, and yet, they now had not one car in that size class, but six. SIX. Oh, so six cars were returned in those twenty minutes, all in that size-class, and all by the two or three people who came by the window? While we were signing forms, one of the customers that had been at the widow while we were waiting came back up. The car they had just given him had left-over Burger King and trash sitting in the front seat that they'd ignored. They don't care about their customers, just about your money, and they clearly have no qualms lying and inconveniencing customers in blatant attempts to steal some more of your cash. read more

Please read before you make an online reservation! Note this is an Avis/Budget joint office. I Made a reservation online two weeks in advance for a Tahoe. Two days before reservation I went to the office to check they had my reservation and everything was good to go. Was assured they have it and it will be ready to go Friday morning. I arrived Friday morning to one employee who was texting while taking to me and had a Bluetooth earpiece in ( this was not for work purposes because every time the office phone rang he answered it and did not use his earpiece). Every time the phone rang the clerk would put them on hold never to pick up again. It was clear servicing customers was an inconvenience to him. When I gave him my reservation he said we don't have a Tahoe but we have a Ford Expedition and sent me to the lot where he said the clerk outside would give me the keys. The clerk outside said we don't have that Ford you need to go back in. When I went back in I was told they don't have any z class size cars available and none are coming. Essentially my reservation was meaningless and he wasn't going to do anything to rectify their failure to uphold their promise. When I explained I had a reservation Mr Customer friendly said there is nothing he can do. I asked for a manager and I received a card for the regional manager. I called 5 times VM each time. I then sent a text. No response at all. I went back in and asked do you have any other cars available that I can take? I was then told they have a minivan available. I was also told the minivan would be an up charge. When i complained how they failed to honor my reservation Mr. Friendly said this is not his problem and I can call his manager if I want to. Avis/Budget you should be ashamed of this office and it has removed me from ever using your companies again. There are gross management issues if you can have an office that can do this and a manager who does t respond at all. Know this. At this office any reservation you have is basically worthless. They have no management oversight as the employee was not engaged does not cares about how people are treated. Nor has the manager ever returned my message. While I was also there I saw Mr Friendly attempt to take one lady who prepaid from 117 for her rental to over 400. Phone calls where Put on hold and never picked up again. And the only employee working was on his cell Phone texting the whole time. read more

Avis and Budget, which are owned by the same company, are co-located in the Hilton in downtown Charlotte. This review addresses Budget, but either way if you rent from this location you will deal with the same organization and the same representatives behind the counter, which appears to be the rental car world epicenter of negligence, rudeness and dishonesty, at least as long as the current general manager is employed there. The short version of this review: you do not under any circumstances want to rent a vehicle from this location. Want more? Read on. I reserved and paid for a one week rental of a full-size vehicle. I was assigned a Nissan Sentra, which is classified as an intermediate (you can look it up on the Avis or Budget websites), with the assertion that it was a full size car, and the excuse that it was the last vehicle they had available. On day two, it became clear that the occasional day one appearance of a large stink bug on the seat, the floor, the dash, etc. was in fact an infestation. I returned to the location and explained the need for an exchange. The general manager offered no concern or apology but remarked that "someone must have used the car to move", which fell somewhere short of an appropriate response in the circumstances. The vehicle I was assigned in exchange proved far worse. In short order I had a flat rear tire, and happened to be only several blocks from the Budget/Avis location at the time. I phoned them. They told me they were about to close for the day and could do nothing to help. They said I should call the Budget roadside assistance number. Instead, I changed the flat tire. This is where the gross negligence part comes in...that tire had gone flat because it was worn all the way through not only the tread but also the steel belt. Think about this: not just worn down, not bald, but all the way through the steel fibers. Incredibly, the other rear tire was also worn through to expose the steel belt. Makes you wonder does Budget/Avis EVER inspect or service their vehicles? Either they were grossly negligent, or they were aware of the condition and chose to recklessly endanger the welfare of their customers, passengers and anyone close to this vehicle. Had the tire blown out when I was driving 55 mph... A replacement vehicle required a half day of talking to Budget representatives. They finally agreed to an extension of my rental period which they deemed "adequate compensation." I sent photos of the worn-through tires to the Charlotte location's general manager; he replied that the vehicle must have been defective. Budget's national customer service office wrote to inform me that their "service" to me would consist of reporting the incident to the location's general manager who had rented me this potentially lethal vehicle to begin with. On returning the vehicle, the general manager failed to clear even the low bar he had already set for customer care. He insisted that he must charge me penalty fees for returning the vehicle late. I reminded him that Budget's national customer service office had authorized an extension. He insisted the car was late, then carried on angrily about how he had "given" me several days of usage "for free." His approach veered between indifferent and hostile throughout the interaction. Need a rental car in Charlotte? There are many options, and you could not possibly choose a worse provider than the Avis/Budget location at the downtown Hilton. read more
