After months of anxious planning and waiting, my family finally had our turn to travel to Kalispell Montana. My mother in law pre booked our rental car service through Costco for Avis Car Rental for pickup on October 18th, 2025. She rented a XL SUV with UNLIMITED MILEAGE. She received the confirmation and we were set to go, or so we thought. Upon arriving to the Chicago airport yesterday, the linked flight to Montana had been delayed due to storms. My family had no other choice than to contact Avis and let them know that we were going to be picking up our rental car 24 hours later on October 19th, 2025. Being the genuine people we are, we did this strictly out of courtesy, due to the fact that the car was already paid for with money from my in laws pockets. After hectic nights of finding hotel vouchers, shuttles and boarding our new flight on October 19th, 2025. Upon arriving to the Avis counter, my mother in law was asked to confirm a reservation that was then modified and incorrect from the previous one, although it had an identical confirmation number. After the two people at the counter, who were generally very helpful and kind told us it was out their hands we were directed to customer service. After my sister in law talked to SIX people, we were told we had to take the 150 miles a day we were offered today, and they would reimburse us if we sent proof of our previous confirmation. What an exhausting and frustrating experience with Avis. My family will NEVER book with this company again. read more

This may be the most convenient Avis branch in the country with some very friendly staff. It's definitely the closest rental car booth to an arrival gate I've ever encountered--2 minutes from the gate (Head towards baggage claim and you'll run right into the counter). On top of that, they're offering some quality vehicles for "budget vehicle" pricing. Specifically, they gave us a Honda Civic for the price advertised for a Hyundai. The car was tuned up, running great, and handled nicely (well done Avis mechanics and Honda). Great gas mileage too. And the car is new(er), so it had an Aux jack for us to plug our iPod into (brought our own Aux cord). All around, it was a sweet experience. Only negative: because of all the mud that tourists track into the cars, Avis puts down some vinyl floormats and waxes them like crazy. We kept falling into the car seat when our feet would slip on the waxed vinyl. Other than that, it was a good little rental. read more

The odometer reading out on the car was incorrect when received the car on Oct 9th. Upon questioning, they advised AVIS customer care would fix it on a call. They charged $2600 for an 8 day car rental(Oct 17th) for 6000 miles. We drove 1120 miles. When reaching out to the customer service(Oct 18th), I was told the refund would be in 3-5 business days and the final correct bill would be $686. It has been 4 weeks since the issue and still no refund. AVIS says this is not their location and it's some privately owned local gig with an AVIS tag to it. They can't process a billing issue and can't provide a timeline of when the local company would process the refund. Every customer rep of AVIS provides a different time line and different amount. read more

I travel a lot, this is hands down the worst Avis I have ever encountered. Every trip, every interaction. Is a struggle. They make would should be easy and painless interaction...excruciating. The guy at the Avis pickup counter misled us and added a $100 upgrade plus local taxes/fees. I understood my Priceline reservation covered "taxes and fees" and I noticed them on the receipt. When I pointed this out, he said 'oh, yes, those won't be charged to you again.' Well, that turned out to not be true... the charges for taxes and fees and a $100 upgrade DID appear on my cc, just like the receipt showed. I called the 800 number for Avis and that representative was very apologetic, straitened out my receipt and refunded me for the extra charges. I have no idea if the counter guy didn't know his job or if he truly intended to upgrade me without my clear understanding. I'll think twice about using Avis or at least know to argue more at the pickup desk next time. The online agent advised me if they do not have the car I requested and only an 'upgrade' is available that I should not have to pay for a car in the upgraded category. Renter beware!! read more

I would avoid this company at all costs. A month after my trip got a letter from Purco Fleet Services saying there was damage to the car during my rental period. There was not. They have not communicated what the damage was or any other pertinent information 6 weeks later. Doing some research I've found this is a very common practice including many complaints with the Better Business Bureau which I'm planning on also. Research also indicates this isn't a Corporate Avis location but an independent owner so you'll get no help from Avis Corporate if you do have issues. Fraud Alert Folks! My wife and I travel to Kalispell Airport frequently. We have rented from Hertz,and Avis. Well never again from Avis. We dropped our car at 0445hrs to catch our outgoing flight. Used the key drop and the gas fill option. We just received a notice from a third party administrator that the car was scratched on the passenger door to the tune of 1,400.00! The car was not scratched, no chance. Somewhere between the parking stall and the shop guys filling the tank and cleaning it perhaps but no bloody way did we drop a damaged car. I am retired, and I welcome the legal battle Avis just got itself into. Back in the saddle taking on a corrupted, unethical business practice. Did you know that if you return the car late they'll be happy to charge more (makes sense) but if you return the car early they will not provide a refund? We booked a rental car with the Glacier Park Int. Airport (FCA) Avis location for our week long vacation. We used Priceline for our booking, got a great price and had no issues with the reservation. I was a bit worried when I arrived to the rental counter because of the signs posted stating that a credit card was required for pick-up, and that debit/credit cards were no longer accepted. We don't keep credit cards, and had paid for the rental in full with our bank card. But the agent was very friendly, understanding, and helpful. After a quick credit check and getting a copy of our flight plan, we were on our way. No hassles, no pushy BS over purchasing additional insurance. My time in line and at the desk was probably no more than 6 minutes. The car we received did have a dent and hail damage, but who cares. It was perfectly clean, and only 2 months old with less than 6,500 miles on it! It was a Subaru with AWD, navigation, and all the bells and whistles. Perfect for a trip to Glacier National Park. Returning the car at the end of our stay was a breeze, with zero hassles, and the agent was cheerful, friendly, and appreciated our business. This was probably THE smoothest and most pleasant car rental experience we've ever had. read more

AVOID! Horrible rental, Awful customer service! For 9 days and over $500 they gave me a vehicle with over 50K miles on it, severe hail damage along with a long list of other problems. This vehicle should not be rented or in service given its condition. When contacted AVIS USA and the Branch in Kalispell, they did not care or return my calls regarding the issues below. Reserved rental several months ago, flew into Pick Up. AVIS representative put heavy sales pitch on me to purchase rental insurance and insurance to cover the cost of the rental if it could not be rented due to being in the repair shop for damage. I told the representative I had rental coverage and an additional plan so I declined the upsale. I was then given the key to a Ford Edge, that had SEVERE HAIL DAMAGE, I have pictures. The vehicle was in golf ball to baseball size hail and was not fixed. This was after I just got the sales pitch to buy an insurance product to cover to take the vehicle out of service to repair. I cannot say if I was given this vehicle on purpose or not. I was in a hurry to leave the airport to go in to Glacier National Park for 9 days, were there is little to no sell service and no repair shops. I started to get a lot of bugs on my windshield so I when to use the wipers to wash them off, they don't work. I realize the car had a newer windshield likely because all the glass in the vehicle was likely demolished in the hail storm. I had to keep stopping and use bottle water and a t-shirt to clean the windshield. The back wiper was taped on because the blade was coming apart. The vehicle had over 52k miles on it. When I would take my foot of the accelerator and coast and then give it gas again the transmission would make an enormous clunk. I am a mechanical engineer. This was bad. I was driving in the middle of nowhere, it was dark, raining at times and in bear county, with no cell service. I was very worried about the vehicle breaking down and not being able to call for help due to the remote area. I noticed the passenger door had a rattle I later found out upon returning the vehicle when I went through it to gather all of my belongings that the rattle was a spent shell casing from a fire arm. That is just great, the people at AVIS did not clean the vehicle and the people who had it before me were likely firing a gun from it. The stereo would not pair to my phone, so no music. I had intended to speak to the manager upon returning the vehicle, however when I got to the airport the line at AVIS was too long to wait, they were not staffed correctly. I had to leave to catch my flight. At my stop I call AVIS USA, where they documented the issue and that was it they told me they can do anything about the issue with the vehicle. I was told to call the branch. I did, several times, more than ten, finally got through to someone, they vehicle was not even checked in yet and I was told that if it was not returned prior to pick up time I would be charge another day. I mentioned the issues to the person at the branch. I was told I would hear from the manager. I never received a call or heard from the manager. I called about five more times. The last I left a voicemail stating if I did not get a return call I would post on YELP and call my credit card company. So this is where I am. I will never rent from AVIS again!!! $500 for a piece of crap SUV for 9 days, horrible customer service. FAIL!!! read more

Mildly annoying experience here with a recent rental. The situation. 1. I prepaid for a full tank of gas. 2. Upon arrival, I was told the pump wasn't working and was given a car with 1/4 tank of gas 3. Upon returning the car, I delivered the car with a half tank (more than it had upon rental). But they still insisted on charging me for the pre-paid tank, minus a fuel credit. The most annoying aspect is the staff made me wait 15 minutes while debating the situation, and refused to simply not charge me for the pre-paid tank which would have been totally fair. (We returned with more gas than we got?). Bottom line is the staff is pretty daft and I don't think they understood my argument. Already wasted too much time so I just left. read more

I prepaid $145.93 for a 3 day rental,,, 1/8/2020 - 1/11/2020,,, my flight arrived at 12 am,,, they told me my reservation was for 12 pm,,, what?? Advised me of policy, and took ownership of my customer service experience. That goes a long way. Not only that, he reached out to me twice. Made me feel like my business was valued. He really made great strides with me to restore the integrity of Avis. I appreciate his efforts and I appreciate that he valued my concerns. He assured me that the incident was not race-based and I feel comfortable with that assertion. Moving forward Im sure any future experiences with Avis will be vastly different than the first. Complete scam, fraud, thieves. I canceled my overpriced and misleading reservation 30 min after I read the fine print and they still charged me a $50.00 penalty. I called and they said they would credit me but after 2 weeks still no credit adjustment. Rented a car here in late August while visiting Glacier National Park with my wife. It was a day trip while we were on a Trek bicycle trip during the shoulder days before the trip began. We rented the car in the morning and use the car during the day and returned the car around 10pm. Thought it was a bit strange that there was no one inspecting cars at the return like they have at other airports. Took a picture of the dashboard to make sure they wouldn't charge me for extra miles (they only give you 100 miles per day) or extra gas. One month later, I received a damage claim for $1000 saying that I had damaged the car. I had a photo showing 4598 miles and the damage claim shows 4600 and huge gouge on the front of the car. May be wise to avoid this place. read more

We had family in town and one of our cars needed to go in for a repair, so we very last minute needed a rental. Andrea made the process so quick and easy. What could have been a huge inconvenience for my family, was quickly averted with their help and professionalism. Renters BEWARE! Dishonest people work here. If you have to rent a car here, make sure that you list every single scratch and scrape, and make sure there are absolutely no cracks in the windshield, and make sure you check BEFORE you leave (especially at night) and make someone sign off when you drop it off. They do not have an attendant outside. They claimed damage for a small crack in a windshield that was pre-existing and assigned the claim to a very aggressive recovery company. It has been a NIGHTMARE and I will NEVER rent from Avis again because of this. I have rented many cars over the years and have never experienced this treatment before. read more

My husband rented a car months in advance of our trip last weekend. Upon making the reservation he called the location in Kalispell to request hand controls in the car. They said they would take care of it. A few days before our trip he called back to confirm the hand controls and received a call from the Avis Disability desk confirming our reservation. We arrived at the airport ready to pick up our vehicle when we were told the hand controls had not arrived. They offered a taxi ride to bring us to our location an hour away and then one back in the morning to get the car with hand controls. Instead of this, we decided that I would drive. The next day we called to check in and were told that the hand controls had still not arrived but upon further questioning they actually had never been shipped. We were told we'd receive a call back on Friday to talk about it and see what they could do but never received that call so we called again. The manager said her and the owner were working on trying to make it right and that we could talk to someone Sunday. When we went back to the airport on Sunday (after being told a manager would be there and one wasn't) we gave them our number to contact us and they said someone would on Wednesday. Well that never happened either. We've tried calling many times but have received nothing back. Although we were able to have the car for the weekend my husband was unable to drive or go anywhere independently because there were no hand controls. It stopped us from being able to do some of the things that we had planned. It's frustrating and feels like they do not care or understand what it feels like to want your independence but are not able to have it because people failed at their job and seem to have no care to try and make it right. We're extremely frustrated with this company and the process we have gone through. read more

Be careful when they mention a low price per gallon for fuel. I was told I'd be charged $2.04 per gallon upon return. I returned the car with the tank nearly full, yet that $2.04 for the perhaps 2 gallons needed wound up costing nearly $30. read more

When we picked up our car, it was filthy inside. It was like they didn't even look inside after the last renter. Dirt and food crumbs were everywhere, and there was even a grape in the front passenger seat. It is nice that their fleet is non-smoking, but seriously, take 5 minutes to vacuum the car out before the next renter gets in. read more
