Now that you've found a rental location, call and ask for Miss Kelly. She is my #1 go to girl, she is fast, friendly and she runs the joint. We rent frequently from this location because it's close to home, making pick up/drop off easy because of the metro lines (if husband can't taxi me to & from). **If possible, avoid a man named Miguel. I've been renting cars from Avis for 15+ years. Most of the time, the experience is somewhat standard, where I get in and get out without any personalized experience. My experience at the Downtown Long Beach location is anything but standard. The office manager, Mr.Solomon takes a good company and has made my experience exceptional. Called weeks prior to get a car rental for my wife and I. I was quoted one thing and given another. Not like it was even in the same ballpark either. The price they tried to charge me was 5 times the quote. Over $500 difference. My fault for not getting the quote in writing, but didn't think it was necessary. I felt I was very clear of the dates and needs. The people behind the counter were understanding and accommodating. I would use this location as a last resort. read more

I reserved a car at 10 in the morning. when I came they told me that the car is not ready. need to wait how much time is unknown. offered to pay more and then they will give me my car. I also bought insurance for the time of booking. They said that this is not a problem and I myself must deal with the refund of insurance. while I expected people came in who also said that the car is not ready, but if they pay more, they will immediately be given a car. read more

I had a horrible customer service experience from this location. Please do avoid. The blonde, black bearded, chubby receptionist (just so whoever does see these reviews knows what he looks like) couldn't be any less happy being there - he was rude, cold and unapproachable. He was not helpful when my payment couldn't go through. And as he had told me that the car was to be mine, I saw him offer it to two walk-ins as if I wasn't on the phone trying to solve the payment problem. Avoid, enterprise was extremely helpful and without a reservation had me in a car in ten minutes - saving me and my friends road trip. Service here is awful. We were an hour early to pick up car, no one in line, and gal said we had to wait because she had several people in front of us. WTF? If I could give zero stars I would. The LACK of customer service is mind boggling. I had made my reservations for this location because it is within walking distance of my home. I arrived a few minutes before my scheduled time and was told that the car wasn't ready. I asked if we could get the paperwork done while waiting for the car. That's when the story changes, we don't have a car for you but you can go to the airport to pick one up or go somewhere else to rent. Finally a couple returns their car and 2 minutes later there is a car for me??? We do the paperwork, go up to the top of the parking garage and sure enough there is a car, never cleaned, inside was dirty, the windows were streaked so badly that with the sun on them you couldn't see through the glass. When asking the lot attendant about cleaning up the car his only reply was "I just did the windows ". No offer to clean the car. A day into the trip the car started to stink, I found a half eaten tuna sandwich under the seat. Half a can of air fresheners and driving with the windows down got rid of the smell. Fast forward, I return the car to Avis parking, no one there to check you in. Walk downstairs to return the keys and having waited for the person behind the counter to finish playing on their phone am told that I have to go back upstairs to write down the miles. Looked at my paperwork and see nothing about "writing the mileage down " and say something to that effect and as she looks up from her phone she tells me there is a sign in the elevator, silly me, I took the stairs. When asking for a manager I was told that they would not be in to that location for another hour or so but that I was welcome to wait. I asked for the phone number but was given a 800 number for reservations. The I was given the PROMISE that the manager would call as soon as they got in. 2 days later, nothing. Worst place to rent a car!! I reserved a car over the phone and told me to pick it up at this location. I showed up and the lady in the front desk tells me with a smile on her face that the car I reserved was not available. I was told that they didn't know if they were going to have the car available that day. I was told to call the 800 number to get a refund. I had payed for an Uber to get to this location. I was not able to go to the even my family planned to go. Avis said that they couldn't do anything else besides reimbursed the reservation. I was expecting or them to make up for their mistakes and compensate me for the extra stuff I had to pay. I will not use Avis again and will make sure everyone I know avoid this company. read more

I have just had the worst rental car pick up experience so far with Avis.  First off, the location did not have the correct vehicle for my reservation.  Secondly, the person who "helped" me, Andrew, was incredibly rude and very unhelpful.  He rolled his eyes when speaking to me, and that was when he even bothered to look at me when speaking to me.  In addition, he never once said thank you or even apologized for not having the correct vehicle.  When I picked up the van, it was not washed and dirty inside and out.  I have never been so unsatisfied with Avis, and I have been renting with you for many years for both business and personal. read more

Came to this rental location in hopes for a speedy pickup since we had already purchased online. When we got there at 8am when they were supposed to open there was nobody in the office. The workers showed up 10 minutes late and they still had to clean our car before we could go. What we expected to be a easy and speedy pickup ended up taking over 30 minutes resulting in a complete loss of time and messed up our whole day. It seems like Enterprise was the better choice. Terrible customer service. Arrived before they closed to return a car i rented while mine was being repaired and the guy behind the counter told me I had to move the car. Go out to the garage and move the car (even though i parked it where I had picked it up originally) and when i returned to get a receipt and a final bill and he had locked the door and left forcing me to leave the keys in the box and so they will probably be charging me another day for nothing. Worst place we have ever rented a car from. Not only is the location of the cars compared to the office difficult they are not helpful at all! We arrived a bit early. They said our car wasn't ready but we could upgrade and go now. We accepted only to get a vehicle covered in dog hair and dirty seats. When we complained we were told they aren't a detail service. So we said we would just wait and didn't want to pay more for a dirty car. They tried to say our car wasn't ready but there were plenty of cars just sitting there. After reserving a vehicle at two other LB rental car locations just to arrive and get told that our reserved vehicle type wasn't actually available, we were in a bit of a situation. After a last minute scramble, Avis was able to get us the vehicle we needed in a timely manner. We drove away comfortably and in great spirits. When I showed up, the sign on the door said they closed at noon due to the holiday-President's Day. Do not rent from this place. The service desk clerk is rude and unwilling to make the customer first. We get here a few hours early and are told we have to wait 2 hours for our car. We call corporate office and are told they have a car here that meets are needs; however, they told us the service location can do what they want. Are you FU**** kidding me. I had just gotten off a wonderful cruise in Long Beach and had about 9 hours to kill before catching a flight back to the Bay Area. My friend and I decided to rent a car for the day so we would have some place to store our luggage and could hang out for the day. I made a reservation at this Avis since it was closest to the port. I was given a quote and a confirmation number, and we had a taxi drop us off. Upon entering, I said "hello," and the woman behind the counter returned my "hello" without taking her eyes off of her computer screen. I told her that I had a reservation and she said "I don't have any cars. When did you make your reservation?" I said "about an hour ago." From there, she was visibly irritated and seemingly unwilling to help. She offered no assistance as we were stranded at her office with our luggage and no transportation, and she basically told us there was nothing she could do to help us and we were just out of luck. We asked to see a manager and she told us she was the owner (Kelly). She eventually tried to call the Avis at the Long Beach Airport (after we first tried and then suggested she do it for us) but got no answer. She then made an angry phone call to what seemed like Avis' headquarters or whoever is in charge of booking, which could have waited until we were gone in my opinion. She finally mumbled under her breath "I guess I have an Expedition" and asked me for my license and a credit card, which she threw back at me on the counter when she was done with them. Finally, we got a car and I thanked her for accommodating us. My friend suggested that in the future, she conduct business in a more customer-friendly manner. She apologized for her conduct and we were on our way. In conclusion, we got a car along with some very horrible service. read more

Car was fine and it was ready on time to be picked up. The staff was friendly. We only experienced one problem. When we called to reserve, we specifically asked about after hours drop off since we were taking the car to Disneyland and wouldn't be back until late and didn't want to deal with it the next morning. They assured us we could drop off the car and it wasn't a problem. When we got there, my husband asked the man who got the car for us and he said that they didn't really do that anymore but that the keydrop was in front of the building. We were confused, but still assumed we could drop the car off since there was a keydrop. We returned late from Disney to the garage and found that the garage closes at 7pm and the only place you can return the car to is the 4th floor of the garage. We took the car back to our hotel and fortunately they let us park there without charging us the overnight fee when we explained the situation. We woke up early and returned the car first thing the next morning. It ended up not being a major problem, but it was a huge hassle! read more
