I usually don't like to write a negative review about anything or anyone, but I just had to for this experience. I ordered a Ceaser Salad and I requested to add chicken breast. First, the salad is overwhelmed with lettuce. I mean, 95% of the plate is leaf. I was expecting a warm piece of chicken breast. I received shredded cold chicken that was stale. The salad was over powered by the cheese and maybe 6 croutons. I paid $15 dollars for that, I tossed it in the trash. I would like my money back to be honest. Then, as I grabbed the salad from the counter, the girl who handed me the fork, was on her phone on Instagram and her gloved touched the top of the fork and that was unsanitary. I get it's a locally owned business but what happened to customer service and the no phones at work, shes touching her phone taking cash and handling forks and food. I won't be going back anymore. I really loved that place but the the experience left a bitter taste all around. read more

Love this place! Their breakfast burritos are super yummy and I love the freshly made juice. They seem to have plenty of regulars, which is a great sign. The staff is friendly and personable and they even know what I like and don't like, sometimes I'm so indecisive and they just whip something up for me. I love the food , but the cashier lady is a little rude. She tells me to wait and when she was ready she just stands there and stares at me. Awkward, then wearing gloves handling money, scratching her hair and touching dirty rags, while touching food. "PRETTY GROSS" if you are selling raw food , please be more careful of sanitation. Just stopped here a month ago to grab breakfast on the go. I order the sausage burrito, it was a good size but did not come with any salsa on the side or as a topping. I have two picky eaters, one thing they do love is avocado, imagine our delight, we couldn't pass this place up! We came here for breakfast and had a couple of the avocado toast, veggie tale wraps and mango smoothies. The avocados were ripe and delicious, none of the faux processed guacamole stuff, everything tasted fresh. The service was friendly and took average time to get food out. We had our breakfast outside in their extended seating area due to covid practices. One of my absolute favorite spots to eat in the San Mateo area. Their breakfast and their lunch items are both great. The owner is super personable and will make custom items for people upon request. My personal favorite items are the Matt's protein wrap and the breakfast crunch wrap, if you happen to like healthy juices, the A juice is awesome. I really hate to be negative here because I felt the people running the shop were genuinely nice. I just feel like there are a lot of elements that are missing in order for this place to be a hit. I really hope they can find a way to fix these issues in order to succeed, I am rooting for you! Anyhow, these were my thoughts I felt were worth sharing; 1. To name your restaurant "Avocado Toast" but not have avocado in any of the sandwiches, AND charge extra for it to be included makes absolutely no sense. I can imagine people being confused and annoyed at this - I was. 2. The menu is MASSIVE and thus confusing. For a place this small, I highly recommend honing in one 1 or 2 things that you can become the best at, and ditch everything else. Again, place is called avocado toast but it really doesn't feel like avocado toast is the forefront of the menu. There's too many other unrelated options that confuse a potential customers understanding of what you do best. Figuring that out is KEY in order to help people tell their friends about your place. Branding stuff. 3. Invest in better quality disposable cutlery, boxes and wraps. Trying to eat a salad with a flimsy fork made for quite an unenjoyable lunch. It's the little things that go a long way. 4. Consider adding instructions for customers. People who are new don't know where to stand to order something and who to talk to first. There seems to be an air of confusion between patrons and those behind the counter. Ie, do I order with the cashier or with the guy making the sandwich? The best customer experience as per instructions at a lunch spot I've ever had was at pokeeatery. I HIGHLY recommend checking out how they manage their flow of customers. Again, I truly wish the best for you guys but it's hard surviving in downtown San Mateo with all of the other options. Major game step up needs to happen. I'm rooting for you read more

Prices went way up since I started going here last year, it's just not worth it anymore. The quality is still good, but it's nothin special and you could have a meal for a little more at most other places. I think it'd cost less to buy a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs and an avocado, use only what you need to make a serving of toast then throw out everything else. read more

Love this place. The sandwiches are fresh and delicious, and it never seems to be very crowded. There are two little outdoor tables, but the owners let my son and I sit inside, in the corner with our little dog after we were finished playing at the nearby dog park. I was first drawn to Avocado Toast because of the genius name, but also because I'm a big sandwich person. I've tried ALL the old spots in town, but Avocado Toast is definitely by and far the best sandwich I've had in the whole Bay Area to date. Not only are the sandwiches very competitively priced, but they're super delicious too. I tried the Spicy Turkey sandwich and I think it's my new go-to. The Turkey, avocado, bread, and all the rest of the ingredients were SUPER fresh and tasty. On top of all this, they have a HUGE selection of chips, protein bars, etc to round out a complete meal. This in addition to the friendly customer service, cleanliness, central location and easy parking, make this one of the best spots to eat at in the bay, hands down. Cute little casual restaurant on downtown San Mateo. I went there after a work out. They have great selections of their smoothies and fresh juices. I ordered Avocado, sprouts, red onion, tomatoes on a sour dough toast. (It usually comes with bacon) but opted out on the Bacon. But I got their Peanut Butter with almond milk and banana smoothie.
