This was the worst meal I have ever had or had the displeasure of ordering for take out. I am very understanding that Covid 19 has taken its toll on resturants, so I figured it would be a bit delayed and maybe not their best....BUT WOW.... THIS IS A NEW LOW!!!! The food was supposed to be ready by 545, so I showed up around 10 to 6. Nobody was at the door (there was a table blocking the entrance) but the note said to ring the door bell. I rang, no answer. Waited about 2 minutes and rang again. No answer; this went on until 615. Finally I walked in and yelled to see if anyone was there ( Did some one pass out and need medical help??) Finally a man answered and said food was on the way. Well, whose food... there were about a dozen people waiting outside!!!! Needless to say 645, I finally left with "my order" in hand. When I got home, the order was incorrect (missing 2 orders of Naan bread and 1 order of marsala chicken.) I called but no answer (i really didn't expect them to answer). The quality of the food I did receive was watered down and bland. I understand that they we ordered on Mother's Day and they were running a special discount promotion but this was not worth it at all. We ended up ordering from another takeout place to supplement our meal. Stopped in here for a late lunch due to being in the area. Very nice men from Nepal host/greet/serve the food. It was authentic and delish. The appetizer of a Samosa Chat was really hearty; I could've eaten that for my meal. The Naan was a little thin and flat, but still good. The Masala sauce tasted more like a tomato soup (and was thin/runny) than anything which was odd to me. The Kadai Paneer was very good but heavy in tomatoes again. Also... A Naan quesadilla?! Went for lunch. Buffet priced well at $9 on the weekday. 4 veggie and 4 meat dishes. All had wonderful and different flavors! Tandoori chicken was grilled well and remained juicy. The kicker was the server. Conversed well and paid attention to me. I asked for gulab jamun and he told me that they only served it on weekends. A bit disappointed we still dined and as we were ending the meal he gave me a bowl of gulab prepared just for me. Compared to Naatiya this takes the crown. read more

The best Indian food I've had in a restaurant in the US! I went for the New Year's Eve special and was blown away by the unique tastes. I particularly enjoyed the 'tikki in a blanket' and the various sauces. We were a large group and ordered a variety of appetizers and entrées -- every gravy tasted different. My gripe with Indian restaurants in the US is that all the gravies taste the same.. they kind of fool customers by having a variety of dishes but all taste the same. This is not such a place... every gravy is unique and not super rich and it is clear a lot of thought went into the menu. Folks, this is not your run-of-the-mill restaurant! I am looking forward to going again -- the manager/owner mentioned that he plans to update the decor and give the place a new name/makeover. Good luck to the new management.. My father, who knows this is my favorite restaurant, bought me a Gift Certificate for Christmas last year. I am disabled and don't drive, so I "Treated" my daughter to lunch yesterday with my $50.00 GC. It was NOT HONORED, WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW, bc it was purchased on 12.13.17, which was over a year. This used to be my go to Indian restaurant in the area but the last two times I went I was significantly disappointed. The service was short and aggressive where it felt like my friend and I's menus were being snatched out of hands after we ordered. When our plates were taken away they were stacked on one another quickly and aggressively. The service made us feel uncomfortable and not welcome. I usually order the saag paneer-medium and the garlic naan. I have received the naan burnt around the edges and dry and the saag paneer lacking significant spice. I went again to see if I went on a bad day and the naan was great while the saag paneer again tasted like mild spice and I ordered it hot. I will think twice before I come again. read more

I love the food and the friendly staff. The one thing I'd suggest is to not have CNN playing in the background. The news can often cause people, like me, to lose their appetite. I was so disappointed when I came in for a buffet and North Korea nukes were blaring on the news in front of me. I lost my appetite immediately. We visited Avon Indian Grill for the first time yesterday evening and had a very enjoyable meal on a quiet Sunday night. The waiter was attentive, full of information and recommendations on the food available and everything was delicious! Some of the menu items are traditional fare but there were several new finds we had not tried before... and truly something for everyone with customized levels of spices and heat. We had a delicious cocktail to start our meal- a blend of ginger, lime, cranberry...it had a nice tang and was not too sweet. The portions are generous, the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated and very welcoming. We will be sure to recommend this place to many friends and family members, including those who may not have experienced Indian cuisine! Our meal at the Avon Indian Grill was as good as it gets. What a fantastic surprise, to stumble in here after a day on the river. The place is neat, clean, comfortable, plenty of parking. The food was FANTASTIC and the portions were more than generous. I had two 13 year olds with me. My daughter loves Indian food, like I do, but it was her friend's (a very picky eater) first time ever eating Indian food. She couldn't get enough! Anup and Ravi couldn't have been nicer to us, recommended dishes for us to try, (even brought extra condiments I was craving) and smiled the whole time. Everything sounded so yummy that I couldn't decide on only a few things to order, so we ordered a lot knowing my son and husband at home would be very happy with our leftovers. And they sure were! The naan quesadilla was a hit with the kids (as was the fried rice) the chicken 65 was sublime, and a few of the dishes were an innovative (& delicious) spin on traditional Indian restaurant fare (samosa chat, for example) If you love Indian food, you've got to give this place a try. Added in August Avon Indian Grill is a hidden treasure in CT as far as Indian food is concerned. It's very classy, comfortable and inviting for anyone who would like to try traditional Indian food. They offer very extensive drinks options that go very well with the quality food they offer. I heard that the restaurant was recently bought by two food enthusiasts, and I started noticing/experiencing even more positive changes at this restaurant. I strongly recommend this place! Added another review on 2/18: Avon Indian Grill served food for our recent Super Bowl party. Their party menu has a wide range of options like their dine-in menu. Chickens Wings (especially "Dynamite" flavor) and Chicken Biryani were big hits amongst kids and adults. I had a great time here last week. The food was super good and the servers remembered my name from last time and asked me how i was. They gave me my favorite childhood drink upon arrival. This restaurant used to be quite good but new owners have taken over and we were VERY disappointed with the food. Chicken tika was over cooked, chewy and dried out, not moist and flavorful. We requested a side of masala sauce but were told we can't get it because we didn't order the chicken tika masala. I've eaten in many Indian restaurants and they are always happy to give it to us. Cold, rainy day. Avon Indian Grill was the perfect choice for lunch. We ordered option two, and between two of us, we had the pleasure of two out of three appetizers and every entree. The chicken tikka masala has the best sauce of any Indian restaurant I've been to. Chicken saagwalla - fresh spinach, light and perfectly seasoned. Updating our review. Within 12 hours, the owners of the restaurant contacted us to apologize for being overwhelmed and invite us to return. We did so tonight, to celebrate our anniversary. The food was as excellent as always, and service was friendly and prompt. This is the way a restaurant should be run. We look forward to many more delicious meals in Avon!!! So disappointed. We've been before and both the food and service have been great. Tonight, we went for an early mother's day supper. There were plenty of open tables and three people attending the diners, but we had to ask for someone to take our order, and after 45 minutes, only had one of our appetizers delivered, despite the fact that diners who arrived after us were already being served. February 3, 2016 I stopped in for lunch and ordered the buffet the food was below average and the presentation was messy. The Nan was burned and to add insult to injury the server "Bobby" made a mistake on the bill he was rude when I asked him to correct it. This is one of the few restaurants I've been to since moving to Hartford, and I have to say that I'm a fan. The restaurant was clean and had more of a modern, minimalist feel. Much better! The tandoori chicken was delicious and tender, the second time, but rubbery and cold the third time. There is a problem with consistency at this restaurant. It never seems busy here. And for me it's hit or miss. There are very few Indian restaurants and after the last experience I probably won't go for a while. The samosa and pakora were excellent and fresh. The overall experience was markedly improved the second time, but the third time (for my anniversary) was a downer. If you get tandoori chicken and order sides, they're a bit overpriced. You will not find better Indian food in Hartford county. The lunch buffet is fresh and plentiful and there are always new additions so that you don't get tired of the same old same old. The naan is probably the best I have ever had. They allow for buffet to go at lunch as well if you are in a hurry. read more

I was really disappointed with my last visit to this restuarant. We arrived 740pm on a Sat. and waited at the bar for 15mins for a table. Once we got the table no one came to take the order. We ordered an appetizer and didn't see it until our entrees came out, which was over a hour and a half after we ordered everything. I mentioned to someone that we ordered 45 mins ago for our food and still nothing happened and not even refills on drinks. It was busy, but I have been there in the past(when busy) and never experienced this before. I noticed the manager/owner was not there, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. The food here is fantastic. The catch is that you shouldn't get there anywhere near closing. On Saturday evenings they claim they are open until 10. What that means to them is that they want you out the door by then and will make comments about your timing and try to hurry you along at every moment along the way. Where I come from a closing time means the kitchen closes as that time not that the restaurant shuts down completely at that time. We were not just sitting there and talking. We were down to business with our meal. The rude behavior has prompted a 3 star rating out of what could have been 5 for their food. Go there and enjoy the meal but, for goodness sakes, go early or the attitude spoils the taste. read more

As others have mentioned the decor is very modern, so bonus points for originality there (as far as Indian restaurants go). Service was family run, but very attentive and professional. We were treated to a complimentary amuse bouche of a watermelon juice shooter and some fried chips with a bean spread, very nice. The menu isn't huge, and is missing some of the normal items other Indian places have, but what they do have is very good. Prices reflect the posh atmosphere, but the food doesn't disappoint. Most recently, we were the ONLY table in the place, and had to basically flag down the waiter any time we wanted anything - to place an order, to ask for a drink refill, to get the check.
