Decided to go to Avondale Pizza Cafe with friends this week. We haven't been in about a year. No reason, just forgot about it. As we sat and looked at the menu and decided that we could split a large but also had a lot of questions. One being, can we get the thin crust that goes with the white pizzas...no problem. Then we had to agree on ingredients. Four older adults, set in their likes and dislikes, finally agreed on a sausage and onion pizza(I said I think the sausage is very good but I can't remember), pretzel with sauce. Niya, our server was as patient as could be. The pretzel arrived and it looked great. Loads of garlic for the two garlic lovers. They said is was perfect and not bite left. There was some left over sauce but it did not go to waste. Then the pizza arrived and it was huge. The ingredients looks great and I couldn't wait to dive in. We all agreed that the sausage was the best in the city. The slices were huge. They pizza was perfectly cooked. And so big that we had leftovers! Service was great and the place was very crowded. Costs were extremely reasonable. We all agreed that we must return sooner than later. Sorry no pictures of the food.

Love pizza cafe! great bar staff and place for regulars. clean and open. and the best calzones anywhere! prices are good for the amount of food you get. food is fresh and the dough is phenomenal. in fact, we go back for the pizza dough. lots of extra sauce on the side which is always an extra win for me!

I went here on 6-21-25. I see why they been in business so long. The pizza that I got is delicious bbq chicken pizza! I've been to this place once before with a cool chiropractor who had a business on Memorial Dr years ago before he relocated. I also got the 5 PC lemon pepper wings. I asked for blue cheese and was giving ranch instead the wings are good also.. The bbq chicken pizza is delicious! They also have a lunch special Mon - Fri

Awww man there are no words for the disappointment we experienced eating here. The pizza is disgusting smh there are no other words for it. Based on the Google reviews and pictures of the slices, I just knew we were going to have a good experience. We did not. I'm only judging the food because we just ordered and left. As soon as I saw the cheese, I knew we had a nasty pizza on our hands. There is no way to describe it - it's clumpy, thick but not sticking to the dough. The toppings taste musty, it's just weird and I'm getting sick as I talk about it. It's two of us and we ate one slice a piece and the rest is going to be thrown away. The Garlic Bread isn't toasted, we brought it home and tried to toast it but it's flavorless and taste like hot dog bun.

Met up with my friend here for drinks and a quick meal as I'm passing through Atlanta. I wouldn't call it "New York pizza" but it's still good. And the service? Fabulous, friendly and attentive. After two hours of fighting Atlanta's world-class traffic to get here, I seriously couldn't think clearly enough to even place a drink order. I asked for a cocktail, something sweet and a few minutes later, that's what I had. Something that could have been a Sea Breeze with sweet and sour that perfectly hit the spot. With a cold drink in hand, I was able to order a slice of pizza. The barbecue is loaded - almost overloaded - with chicken and sauteed onions and cheese and barbecue sauce. I'm glad I only got the one slice because this was a full meal all by itself. A neat little local watering hole and yes, they have more than just pizza. Awesome pizza. I've had several pizza places near by and the Pizza Cafe is consistently the best pie. Service is always very friendly. Don't sleep on the French fries. The salad is a little small and lacking for $5. My only complaint!

Avalanche on one half and spinach, chicken, artichoke on the other half

This place is a hidden gem! The pizza is always delicious it's best in Atlanta in my opinion!!! I usually get the wings too we like the hot with lemon pepper sprinkles they are always on point. The waitresses are always friendly and personable. You can tell a lot of the locals go there a lot to eat. I would too if I were closer. The place itself its nothing fancy ...just good food and good service... I was really surprised it wasn't rated much higher.

Something has completely changed about this spot. It used to be one of my favorites, a nice moderately priced sit-down Italian restaurant tucked away in downtown Decatur. Maybe they've grown too big for their britches as we southerners say, but this most recent visit was likely my last. Staff attitudes were terrible, the execution of the food was a joke. My siblings and I had hyped this restaurant up to our mom and thought she would enjoyed being wined and dined. We arrived admittedly about 10 minutes after our reservation time (thanks to the city of Decatur's hostile parking policies), after attempting to call the restaurant and let them know we were circling the building. I say attempting because the number rings straight to an AI voice that doesn't allow you to speak once it asks you a question. I even tried sending messages through the OpenTable app. Either way, the restaurant claims you have a 15 minute grace period. Once we finally walked inside, my sister leaned over and whispered that their posted food inspection score was a low B. We exchanged glances but figured maybe they were inspected on an off day. The host (once she finally stopped avoiding eye contact with us) spontaneously let us know that since we weren't on time, we would be "getting a table in the back by the kitchen". What an odd policy to announce to your patrons that you're going to be punishing them with bad seating. The table was indeed by the kitchen but given how many tables this restaurant has tried to cram into the dining room, none of them are spectacular. I looked around and saw folks at tables bumping into the ones next to them, that's how tightly everyone is seated. Our server was friendly enough, and was able to recommend some good dishes. Word to the wise, while they bring bread to the table, it's one half-slice per person. We learned the hard way (because our server never mentioned it) that asking for more bread (the exact same amount as before mind you) is $7. You could buy a freshly baked loaf for that price. The actual food was fine, not bad but nothing like we've had in the past. It arrived fairly quickly. Where the dinner continued nosediving was when my sister, after seeing that we all had ordered small side dishes of pasta, decided she'd like to order some as well. By small side dish, I mean a fistful in a soup cup. I add that detail because when she asked the server, the server stated it would be AT LEAST a 20 minute wait. We asked her to repeat herself because surely we heard that wrong, right? 20 minutes for spaghetti?! She left for a few minutes, then came back and said her manager confirmed that even if she asked the kitchen to rush it, the soonest would be 18 minutes. You see a pattern here right? This restaurant seems like they relish letting their customers know who's in charge...and here's a hint reader, it's not you. Where the evening actually became appalling was a result of our closeness to the kitchen. They have a sous chef working dining room-adjacent doing the final dish prep before the food is picked up by the runners. I know kitchens usually don't utilize gloves (the whole, hands can be frequently washed but the same pair of gloves will touch multiple surfaces thing). However this gentleman unabashedly practiced some of the worst cross contamination practices I've ever seen. He'd grabbed fistfuls of Parmesan cheese to garnish a plate, then reach in his pocket for his phone. Then he'd arrange leaves of lettuce for salad, then TOUCH HIS HAIR. We watched him on two occasions have, either family friends or familiar patrons, walk up to him excitedly and he'd hug them and shake their hands and pat their shoulders, and once done would immediately grab forks and knives and spoons by their business ends, squeeze lemons, slice bread, fist the cheese container....absolutely disgusting and completely explains the health inspection score. If anything it should have been lower. We were only 5 feet away from the guy and he made eye contact with us several times so it's not like he was embarrassed. A long haired woman came over a few times and did the same as him, though she did put black gloves on once or twice. To top it off, once we received the check was we saw plenty of upcharges and surcharges that our server neglected to tell us she would be adding, so her tip reflected her oversight. To wrap it up, not only is the service and food not worth the price, but this place is actually unhygienic. Unless they change their practices, you're eating here at your own risk. Wish Yelp was like IG and I could @ the health department....

The server was friendly and professional. We ordered drinks and two entrées. There was only one other table besides us, so just two tables total in the restaurant. After our drinks arrived, it took more than 45 minutes for the food to come out. The food itself was delicious. We had the half chicken and the trout. The ingredient quality is high, you can really taste it. However, the wait time was a bit too long, especially considering how empty the restaurant was. Aside from the long wait, everything else was good. I wonder if the delay was because we came shortly after they opened for lunch, but if they're open, the kitchen should be ready. Overall, the food is quite good, though the entree menu is somewhat limited, if excluding the pasta. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth trying. Personally, I'm not sure if I would come back. I'd rather not experience that long wait again, but maybe it was just an off day when I visited.

We split the rigatoni alla vodka, fettucine ai funghi, and tagliatelle bolognese. All were perfection. I loved the creaminess of the alla vodka, which had a kick of spice from the chili oil. I loved the herbiness and freshness of both the ai funghi with its sage and the bolognese with its rosemary. The tiramisu was the only dish that was just ok. I would much rather have espresso drenched ladyfingers than coffee liquor. But it was still good so I cannot complain. We did arrive here a bit early for our reservation but were seated right next to the open kitchen, so it felt quite crowded and cramped. It's a very, very small restaurant and it was freezing where we sat because we were under the vents. Our server, Mary Catherine, was a treat and she took good care of us. She took our drink orders, though I didn't drink tonight. For appetizers, we started with the calamari and stuffed clams. They also offered complementary bread and olive oil basket that was served warm, yum! Our food orders came out pretty fast actually. The calamari was not your typical fried calamari - it was delicious and loved the mix of raw onions in it for that fresh bite. I'm not a fan of clams so I didn't try this, but heard it was just breading and can't really taste the clam taste. For my entree, I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro with meatballs. I had been dreaming about this since making the reservations and it did not disappoint. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was wonderful. I did think the meatballs were a tad too salty for my taste and I'm glad I opted out of the freshly grated parm because I feel like that would have made everything saltier. After our meal, they brought out free dessert for the birthday celebrants. Nothing but raves were said after our dinner here and we're definitely looking forward to coming back here again.

I'll start with the service. The entire staff here is top of the line. I haven't had better service in a long time. This might as well have been our server Maggie's home, because that's how she treated us. I don't feel "at home" in many restaurants these days. People just don't believe in what they are serving anymore. Absolutely LOVED her! I have never had a server who was more at ease and confident in what she was offering us. I instantly trusted her. Just sit back and let her order for you. Her recommendations were spot on from the wine to the dessert. I wish I could have given her a high five after each dish, but that would have been awkward. The beautiful thing about this place is that there were 4 apps/salad offerings, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Tons of wine and drink options. We had a great bottle of Rocca di Principe Irpinia Aglianico CAMPANIA 2022. For starters, We had the Green Salad, woodland gardens lettuces in a beet vinaigrette with asher blue cheese, crispy shallots & candied pecans and the Spring Panzanella, sugar snap peas, focaccia croutons, georgia peaches, genovese basil, house-made stracciatella. Absolutely stunning flavors and so perfectly seasonal. The peaches with the genovese basil was so refreshing! For our entrees we ordered the Spicy Rigatoni, with pork ragù, nduja sausage, san marzano tomatoes, & liuzzi hand dipped ricotta. Perfectly cooked pasta, perfectly balanced flavors with just the right amount of spice and acid. 10/10!! Next came another pasta dish, a Hand Cut Tagliatelle with braised & fermented greens, crispy mushrooms, grana padano & peppercorn agrodolce. I loved the texture of the pasta in this dish. It was incredibly light and the fermented greens were to die for! Our last entree was the Chicken Milanese with yuzu kosho, harissa, herbs & flowers. Absolutely incredible. The chicken was breaded but not greasy. Incredibly light and buttery soft. I've got to be honest, the herbs, flowers and greens on top made this dish. Must try! We had a party of 4 and this was a perfect amount of food and there were no leftovers. That wasn't happening tonight! Finally (and what a finale!!) we ordered what they described as "World Famous" best in town Tiramisu. I will gladly and 100% give them this title. You won't find better tiramisu in this town. And it's nothing like you've ever had before. I am not surprised by many things but this was truly some of the best dessert I have had anywhere! Creamy, fluffy, light, not overly sweet. Not traditional. I've had traditional. This was special. Pro tip: order a cup of black coffee. Not because it needs it, but because you won't believe how good it tastes after a bite. Can't remember if I chased it with dessert or coffee. I just remember the experience. The surprise was just a touch of finishing salt on top. I was speechless. It was giving caramel and I will dream about this. Gigi's is not convenient for me at all but I will gladly go out of my way for more experiences like I had tonight. It is such a cool place inside. Warm, trendy, but old school, great things to look at, and the music is great and was everything I like. This place is excellent when every other restaurant just seems to wing it.....at least OTP. Almost really ruined my experience and I was going to dine elsewhere. Started off with focaccia and beef carpaccio. The beef carpaccio was good! Although very very thin serving. We got two pasta dishes and th trout. The pasta dish with shrimp only came with five small pastas, I thought this was kind of pricey and crazy! $32 for five pieces of pasta?! The pork pasta dish was also very very salty. Though a bigger portion for $34, it was okay at best. The trout was definitely the better entree in my opinion. We also got a slice of tiramisu, and this was my favorite item all night. It was sweet and light! They also don't give any free appetizers for your birthday just fyi! The server was friendly, and came to check on us frequently. Overall, the food was okay, and the phone service was off putting. However the server we had tonight was one of the worst experiences I've had especially for a place that is trying to sell an upscale dining environment he greeted the table by saying (after we asked how he was doing) "I'm doing f-ing horrible I'm tired and feel like sh*t we had such a busy night last night" he was not very knowledgeable about menu or drinks and his overall appearance gave very much unhygienic he also forgot to put in our food order so we waited double the time and said that since we already had appetizers and the other table did not have any food that we could wait to order food, also just assumed how someone in my group wanted there steak cooked so had to wait for that to be redone, he was all over the place and did not check in on us very often we needed things like refills or salt pepper etc. and went without because bad service I don't think he should have been working he obviously did not want to be there he also failed to mention that the kitchen was closing so we did not get to try the desserts. There were a couple of other things but don't want a 5 page review I cannot remember his name but a taller white guy with a messy bun and tired eyes. We still left a tip because that's what you do when you go out but if he treated his other tables like he did us I wouldn't be surprised if we were the only ones that tipped. I suggest not going on a busy night to get good service I guess. My group was 4 ppl 2 couples trying to enjoy a nice double date without the craziness of v-day next time we will celebrate days before. Will for sure be going back and hope you give them a try but if that's how the waiter greets himself please go ahead and ask for a different server!!!!

We did have dinner reservations at 6:30 pm and only a few tables were occupied, but the later the night had gone, more diners came, but still was not bustling full. They have valet parking (apparently was not available that night) and deck parking which they do validate 2 hours of it. We were at the restaurant for more than 2 hours, so we paid for the extra time. Our server (Lauren I think was her name) was decent that night, but we felt as if our drinks and food took a long time. As it was Christmas Eve, she gave us a few additional plates that we did not order for free that we thoroughly enjoyed. For starters, we all shared the meatballs, marinated olives, little gem salad and focaccia. I thoroughly enjoyed the salad and focaccia with the salad as one of our "Christmas gifts" that night. The focaccia was served with honey butter and was served warm. My husband and I shared the Margherita Royale. The dough itself had a nice chew and loved the charred bits on the crust. We also shared the charred broccoli, but was nothing to write home about - personally, would not recommend. I ordered an affogato as my dessert. I wasn't expecting the espresso and ice cream to be served separately. I just took sips of the espresso while taking spoonfuls of ice cream - this was easily shared. I do want to give a shout out to their general manager, Macy. She dropped by our table to check how we were enjoying our meal. Two people in our party has been there before to celebrate a big accomplishment and Macy remembered them! She even remembered giving them a gift that night. I think it's worth trying their food! It's in a good location on the beltline, but surrounded by businesses.
