Decided to go to Avondale Pizza Cafe with friends this week. We haven't been in about a year. No reason, just forgot about it. As we sat and looked at the menu and decided that we could split a large but also had a lot of questions. One being, can we get the thin crust that goes with the white pizzas...no problem. Then we had to agree on ingredients. Four older adults, set in their likes and dislikes, finally agreed on a sausage and onion pizza(I said I think the sausage is very good but I can't remember), pretzel with sauce. Niya, our server was as patient as could be. The pretzel arrived and it looked great. Loads of garlic for the two garlic lovers. They said is was perfect and not bite left. There was some left over sauce but it did not go to waste. Then the pizza arrived and it was huge. The ingredients looks great and I couldn't wait to dive in. We all agreed that the sausage was the best in the city. The slices were huge. They pizza was perfectly cooked. And so big that we had leftovers! Service was great and the place was very crowded. Awww man there are no words for the disappointment we experienced eating here. The pizza is disgusting smh there are no other words for it. Based on the Google reviews and pictures of the slices, I just knew we were going to have a good experience. We did not. I'm only judging the food because we just ordered and left. As soon as I saw the cheese, I knew we had a nasty pizza on our hands. There is no way to describe it - it's clumpy, thick but not sticking to the dough. The toppings taste musty, it's just weird and I'm getting sick as I talk about it. It's two of us and we ate one slice a piece and the rest is going to be thrown away. Excellent place to hang out.Friendly staff and prompt service. Pizza, salads and appetizers are very good. I like their crust (not too thin). I also had their BLT in a fresh soft sub roll, which was fantastic. Good beer selections, especially for my wife who likes draft IPAs. Next time I come I will try the Calzone. Met up with my friend here for drinks and a quick meal as I'm passing through Atlanta. I wouldn't call it "New York pizza" but it's still good. And the service? Fabulous, friendly and attentive. After two hours of fighting Atlanta's world-class traffic to get here, I seriously couldn't think clearly enough to even place a drink order. I asked for a cocktail, something sweet and a few minutes later, that's what I had. Something that could have been a Sea Breeze with sweet and sour that perfectly hit the spot. With a cold drink in hand, I was able to order a slice of pizza. The barbecue is loaded - almost overloaded - with chicken and sauteed onions and cheese and barbecue sauce. Great local place for pizza and wings! We ordered a medium pizza for around 13 bucks each topping for half the pizza was 1 dollar (2 dollars for whole). We ordered wings, which was honestly my favorite part. The wings were fried hard, bbq sauce on the sweet side, choice of ranch or bleu cheese. The pizza was enough for 2, possibly 3 - 8 slices. Topping are baked on the top - not underneath the cheese. It can be cumbersome if there a lot toppings. Topping were plentiful, overwhelming. I had a MOUND of jalapeños. Whew. Would have appreciated if they took it easy. They also have lunch specials which are more price conscious. read more

I walked and immediately went to the lady at cash register. I asked if I could get a couple slices of pizza. I told her I was dining in and she said that itd be 15 min for to go orders and less then 10 min for dining in. She said sit anywhere and someone will be with me. I sit down at the high table and wait. 10 min pass and I look at the lady at the register and she looks back at me in acknowledgement, so I wait. Another 5 mins go by, and I look down at my watch and look at the lady in the front and makes eye contact. I wait and by the time I know it 25 minutes has passed. I go back to the lady at the front and ask her if anyone was going to serve me. She says omg, hold on. She goes to the her coworker and the waitress immediately pops up and says I'm so sorry, I just heard what happened. I ordered 2 slices pizzas with one slice being mushroom and the other slice tomatoes and the waitress was very accommodating and said the pizza will be out immediately and said she was sorry for the inconvenience. She came a couple of times to fill up my drink. The pizza was my type of pizza, thin and crispy, however the taste... something was off about it. It tasted a bit funny, weirder than I'm normally used, but I ate it all. The waitress was nice, however, I waited 25 min before being served and the pizzas taste was a little off. A little salty, and the big white slice of cheese atop the lasagna is unappealing to the eye. Garlic bread went straight to the trash after a few bites. Just bread with butter. No garlic taste whatsoever. Bland and flavorless. One corner was burned. They should call it butter bread instead of garlic bread. There is no garlic. This place has some of the best pizza for the best prices - where else can you find HUGE slices of NY-style cheese pizza for $2?! The appetizers aren't too shabby either. Don't worry about service. It might look empty, but your server will come meet you shortly after you seat yourself. There's also a bar connected to the left if you're in need of a buzz. Admittedly, I mostly end up here after a long night, but I also willingly come by choice (and even at least once by daylight, according to my Yelp pictures...) too.
