Cant comment on the food as i have not dined there. But i can say that the people there are the best. When you pull up to Avondale Pizza Cafe, it's the tinted windows that make you wonder what's going on in there. Nothing shady though, unless you call serving up monstrous slices of pizza, wings and a few other things shady. I went in on a weekday for lunch and they do have daily lunch deals to cut back on prices, but I chose to get the following: Cafe Combo slice - $3.95 Hot pretzel - $1.25 Lemon pepper wings (5 pc) - $5.25 Marinara sauce - $0.85 The pizza slice, even though it's listed as a thin crust, is pretty dang huge. The Cafe combo slice is one of the more popular slices, and comes topped with sausage, mushroom, onion, green peppers, pepperoni and extra cheese. The sausage is kinda minced, and it mixed with the cheese is a little greasy. Sadly, the veggies can hardly be tasted, and I like that fresh veggie taste in my pizzas. Still, this wasn't a bad slice flavor wise. The wings, I was told sold like wildfire, and after trying one, I can believe it. Not very greasy, crispy and aggressively seasoned (you KNOW these are lemon pepper) are definite pros here. They also come with a side of celery and your choice of blue cheese or ranch dressing. These were really good! The hot pretzel was described to be something delicious, put in the oven, dipped in butter, drenched in garlic and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, all of which it was. Flavor, sadly didn't live up to description, as it was kinda bland to me. I used the marinara sauce to help it, but the pretzel lacked any kind of salt (go figure). The actual pretzel is made with pizza dough, and the dough was cooked well. The pretzel was a decent size, especially for the price, but flavor just didn't do it for me. The marinara was also just okay. Somewhat spacious interior, the parking lot on the other hand, can fill up, as it's shared by restaurants in this little strip. There are two exits on to E. College ave, with one being a red light exit. Look, if you want some decent pizza or wings and your close to Avondale Pizza Cafe, you wont go wrong here. Best i've ever had? Nah, but good? I've been here twice for lunch now and thought the food was pretty good. Both times I got a side salad, which was a good size for the price. I ordered a turkey wrap the first time I came in that had fresh avocado on it. It was tasty but could've used some additional seasoning or sauce. When I asked for hot sauce, I was bummed to find out they only serve Tabasco which is undeniably the worst hot sauce ever. The second time I ordered a slice with quite a lot of toppings. It was really big and the crust was deliciously well done. The inside of the restaurant could use an update as far as decor and carpeting, but overall this is a good pizza place for the price. read more

I'm a fan. I'd been here once before, many moons before. APC is a very pleasant spot with a local feel. You can sit in the cafe section or the bar. The two are not just affiliated - the spaces are open to each other. As it happened, most of the good seating was taken in the bar, so I sat in a cafe booth. Very comfortable and no obnoxiously loud music. Service was superb. Attentive and friendly without being intrusive. There are menus at the table so you can get started with your choices right away. Decent draft list. Not Decatur pub impressive, but solid. I had a Moo Hoo, an excellent local chocolate stout, but there were a couple other choices that would have been fine, too. Draft beer is offered in 16 and 20 ounce glasses. Hot wings - classic, no frills, Buffalo-Style wings, dripping with red hot sauce (think Frank's or Texas Pete). I like them. Caesar salad - fresh lettuce, shaved parmesan and some crisp croutons. Nothing fancy, just a good small salad. They also offer the usual other salads: house, Greek, etc. Pizza - pepperoni & mushrooms. Yikes, was this puppy hot! I mean, really hot. I actually had waited a couple of minutes while I finished some social media stuff before taking a first bite and it still almost burned my mouth. They waste no time between pulling the pizza out of the oven and delivering it to your table. Awesome. As far as quality, it's a solid pizza with flavorful, well-cooked crust. Maybe just a tad oily. Once it was apparent I was finished with my meal, a to-go box and the check were delivered promptly to my table without my asking. This is a very consistent place. The food is always dependable. I love their Veggie slice!!! So affordable! Less than $5.00!! Delicious!! Their pizza slices are huge!! They have salads, sub sandwiches and Italian dishes to choose from other than pizza. They have a full bar attached to the restaurant. O'Keef's The staff are always polite & friendly! The service is fast, whether you eat in or take out, you will have a good experience. There is plenty of free parking and a private room in the back for meetings & gatherings. read more

This is your solid average pizza place. It's in a shopping center with windows so tinted I thought 'I wonder what else they sell here... Haha but anyways once inside its well lit and big with bright red walls. My server was very nice and attentive, she checked in a few times. I was just stopping by for a slice and glad I did. The pizza was decent.. And HUGE. I have never seen a slice so big and only 1.99 for cheese. It could have been a little crispier and the cheese gooey-er but it was fine. Pizza sauce was on point. Mamma Mia! Always enjoy coming here: great calzones, good hot subs, fantastic pizza, and tasty salads, the greek salad is a real touch of class. It's my top pizza place in the ATL. The patio is always a chill spot to have a few slices and down a few beers. The white pizza pie with spinach, artichoke, and tomatoes is what I dove into this time and it was a taste surprise of the most welcomed kind. Oh, Fellini's Pizza which another reviewer spoke of, it tastes like cardboard and it only has one salad which is just a bunch of bad iceberg and a dressing of undetermined origin. How that place appears to gain more locations each time I visit this city speaks to the ATL's questionable culinary destiny. read more

It was our first time here. First off, the outside looks jenky with the dark tint. We decided to give it a try anyway. When we first walked in, we didn't know it was "seat yourself" type of place so we stood around a bit awkwardly until somebody finally let us know. Then the waitress we had had a super dark black eye that looked fresh. That was a bit awakened as well. When it came to the food, I asked the waitress how big the pretzels were, she told me they were small, so we ordered 4. They were not small. We would've ordered a smaller amount had we known. Next we found a hair in our tomato sauce. We let a different waitress know and she offered to bring us out a new one at no cost; that never happened. I ordered the ravioli which was $6.49; the waitress mentioned that a side salad came with it so I opted for it. The salad was poor and pathetic with old brown mushrooms. Once the bill came, it was very apparent that I was charged $2.99 for that poor side salad. Needles to say, we won't ever be returning to try anything else out! read more

I decided I needed to nosh after a show at the nearby Academy Theatre. My yelp app suggested this place might still be open, so I buzzed right on over. And I'm glad I did. The atmosphere is laid-back, shares an open wall with the neighboring, neighborhood pub, and just seems like a cool place to hang out. I was about to order a small pizza and take part of it home, until I realized they do pizza by the slice. I then ordered two slices of pizza, topped with mushrooms and onions. Now please hear the distinction I'm about to try to articulate: The pizza is fantastic. The sauce is right. Hot & fresh is the name of the game, even at that late hour. I'll go back just for the pizza alone. The thing I didn't like: toppings were uncooked onions and mushrooms (fresh though they were, indeed) piled on top of the pizza. I'm sure this is simply the mechanics of how a by-the-slice pizza gets made, but I don't like the end results. Throw some more cheese on there. Or use some grilled onions & mushrooms or something. Or maybe next time I'll show up with a posse and we'll order an entire pie. Because the pizza underneath those toppings was really, very good. read more

My prior review was a little tepid- I gotta say that lately the pizza has been terrific - crispy and delicious. We stop by a lot more than time to time and it has become one of my favorite, most consistently good pizza choices. My favorite is my own special -no mozz, feta, tomato sauce, bacon and spinach. Omg - so crisp and tasty. Decent well priced drinks - full bar, fresh salads, and yummy brunswick stew is great on a cold night. Why 4 Stars.......Because its a small local establishment with a friendly staff, cold beer and well above average pizza. We stopped by as a traffic diversion and ordered a pie and a couple of beers. The pizza was a thin crust peperoni with sausage and green peppers crispy with a nice crusty char. Ordered multiple pizzas for family gathering. Must say we could not decide what went wrong... change of suppliers??? recipe??? newly hired cook?? timing at Thanksgiving?? Ordered Greek salad also that was crispy, cold but very water logged. Still salad was delicious after a round in the salad spinner. Hostesses was wonderfully welcoming, kind, and helpful. Pizzas, however, really need help! You know it is bad when kids take a bite and put it back to see what else might they eat. Pizzas were very very bland, unseasoned, and overly chewy. My friend actually lives in the apartment complex near to the shopping center and we decided to stop in this cafe for a slice. The pizza is probably the closest thing I've found to New York style since I moved to Atlanta. Their slices are huge and you can order them however you like because they have a huge variety of toppings. I ordered two slices with extra cheese, pepperoni, banana peppers, and black olives. It was wayyyyy to much pizza to eat in one sitting because the slices are very big. However, it was jam packed with flavor. There is parking located in front of the plaza and I always seem to find a spot no matter how crowded it is. read more

Well we have a live nearby here for quite some time, we just recently had our first experience. We each had a salad, split an order of jalapeño poppers and one of us ordered an entire pizza - while the other one just ordered a slice. Our server was fantastic, and she gave us very good advice about how to order exactly what we wanted - and confirmed our preferences before making a recommendation. The jalapeño poppers we're OK, I do prefer to have cheddar as the stuffing, but the serving was certainly generous. I ordered a custom size, including the fresh garlic. And my penis was absolutely fantastic. I truly enjoyed it and didn't have any to take home. My dining companion ordered an entire pizza, and there's was very good too - ironically some of their ingredients match what I had ordered - and the size of the pizza was well large enough that we were able to take several pieces home. If you're in the area and want pizza, this is definitely a place worth stopping. read more

Yes yes yes! Cheap, delicious NY style pizza. Finally. Good pizza in Atlanta. And it's near my house. Ahhh...I've waited a year for this. This place is pretty unassuming. It's located in a strip mall. There's carpet on the floors. The decor is...I don't know. It's not good. It reminded me of every family pizza joint I went to as a kid in Iowa. But that gave me a damn good feeling about the place bc the Midwest has GOOD pizza. And I wasn't wrong. We ordered a large sausage and onion 'za [holy grail of pizza - must order at every new pizza place as a test] for less than $14.50. Great price for the quality ingredients that came with. Real cheese. Homemade crust. Slightly sweet sauce (key). Heavily seasoned ground sausage (I love it!) and sweet slices of onion. We also ordered onion rings and wings. The rings were fine - frozen, but fine. The wings were really good, they just need to cook them a little longer to get a better crisp on the skin. Y'all, this place is the business! I have gotten to the point where I can not stand pizza from the national pizza chains. So, I had been on a quest to find some good pizza. My former Supervisor turned me on to this spot. I love their pizza! They are a little pricier than what I would typically pay, but man are they worth every penny. I always get a medium Avondale Avalanche ($18.25). And according to their menu...Sausage, ground beef, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, pepperoni, black & green olives, roma tomatoes, bacon and extra cheese. Me: Minus the ground beef and mushrooms. (I like mushrooms, but once I was delivered the wrong pizza from Pizza Hut, and it was filled to the brim with mushrooms. Yuck! I have been turned off from mushrooms on pizza ever since). The pizza sauce has substance and not overpowering. I can actually taste spices in it. I also ask for the pizza to be cooked well done and by golly gee...It always is. The pizza comes in 6 large slices which I always cut into 2 smaller slices, per slice. Does that make sense? You know how some pizza places have a lot of ingredients and then you get the pizza and it tastes just like cardboard? Well, not at Avondale Pizza Cafe'. Their ingredients are always juicy, flavorful, fresh and distinguishable. Also, the well done crust is chewy AND crispy, along with some of the cheese being golden brown. Awesome sauce! Soft Drink Refill Speed: 5/10 I've been told that "townie" isn't a universally known term, but Avondale Pizza Cafe seems like a townie place. In the best way. The pizza is very good, and the atmosphere strikes me as the type of place the locals go. Nothing fancy, nothing extravagant, but solid pizza and friendly people. If you're looking for a place to watch a game, grab a slice (they sell pizza by the slice at the bar, which is great), or order a sausage pizza (which was also great), I'd recommend doing it here. read more

This cozy pizza place is a great spot for an inexpensive slice of pizza. The spinach ravioli is also tasty with sauce that would make any Italian born chef jealous. The atmosphere is comfortable with strategically placed TVs mounted to watch your favorite game. The service is very good. The waiters and waitresses make you feel like they care and they don't leave you waiting long. My only complaint is that if feels a bit warm in the summer months. read more

Waited almost an hour for an order of mozzarella sticks and a slice of pepperoni pizza (though my salad came out pretty promptly). The wait staff was obviously overwhelmed. But for that kind of wait time? I expect a little more than a "So sorry". We've been before and had decent service/food, so this was a surprise. Reading other reviews now, it sadly seems typical for this restaurant to do nothing for frustrated customers. I attended an event that was hosted here and I wasn't very impressed. The pizza was just ok, nothing special. I tried the mozzarella pretzel, which isn't actually a pretzel. It's just dough covered in cheese, butter and too much garlic. It sounds good, but the bread was bland, it literally tasted like nothing, even with all the cheese and garlic. I was very disappointed.
