I had my M Roadster in there a couple of years ago to fix a persistent hard starting problem. I had heard good things about AVUS, so off I went from Palos Verdes to Glendale, about a 90 min drive each way. $6800.00 and 2 such visits later, the issue still wasn't resolved and they refused to experiment (and that's all they appeared to be doing) on it further without continuing to charge me. Owner talks a fine game, but santimonious words don't repair the car. I've been living with it ever since because I just can't put any more money into it.. It wasn't just the fact that the car wasn't fixed; it was the attitude of the owner, whose position after I had paid them nearly $7000.00 for nothing, was that I was unreasonable for not wanting to give him yet more money even tho, at that point, he couldn't promise any different result,and he even seemed to imply that it was unreasonable of me to expect the car to have been fixed. I have a number of cars and some experience getting them worked on, but I sure got taken by these guys. You couldn't pay me to take a car there again. read more

These guys are awesome, true BMW specialists and they are very serious with their work. The shop was really clean, and i mean really clean as in military standard. I loved the service and honesty and will definitely be back when I need it. I recently bought a 2004 E46 330ci zhp with dinan 3 package. I'm usually the guy that make mechanical repairs and modifications myself, but because I just moved to the US from Europe I simply didn't have time, equipment and the place to do it. The car needed the inspection II, new tires which was replaced next door during the time Avus worked on the car and when the car was up on the lift I decided to change some other parts they suggested me to change. How do I know that they're honest? when the car was up on the lift they showed me everything under the car that needed to be changed and because I have the knowledge about these cars I knew that they were telling me the truth. the repair and service went fast, dropped the car at Friday afternoon and picked it up on Saturday afternoon and they even replaced some other wear and tear parts for free without telling me which I was very happy with. The car completely changed characteristics after the service, it got much quieter and is like new when going over bumps and uneven surfaces. it simply runs like new!! I came across Avus here on Yelp. I read great reviews, and have been on the lookout for a good BMW dealer in LA for a while. So I gave it a shot. What prompted my visit? The dreaded "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Which could mean anything from "replace a cap" to "replace the engine". But the other thing that prompted my visit was a nightmarish visit to another mechanic a few weeks ago. That mechanic took a look at my car (a 2005 Red BMW bought in New York) and a few hours later called me with a deep, somber voice. "Your car has a lot of problems. A lot of problems". He listed four or five problems involving arms, pumps and pulleys, and said that these things would have to be taken care of immediately. I asked him how much it would cost. He said three thousand dollars. I almost fell off my chair. Thankfully I didn't take the bait and he didn't touch my lil red car. But the mystery remained: was my car, bought in August, a total piece of crap? Did I get duped by the NY firefighter who sold it to me? Enter Avus. I took the car over and was immediately impressed by how clean and classy the shop is. There are nice cars parked around, a couple of mechanics working away, and very little stress in the air. Everybody there was very helpful and took the time to explain things to me. This is in spite of my allegiance to Ferrari's Formula One team. Very often mechanics will use their knowledge of technical lingo to make the customer feel ill-at-ease. We feel bad if we don't understand something, and want them to feel that we trust them. So we don't ask. And they take advantage of that. But here, there was a genuine sense of respect. It's the kind of place that prefers familiar faces to a revolving door of one-off disgruntled customers. Cars are important, especially here in LA, and finding a good mechanic is like finding a good priest, or a good rabbi. We'll all need one eventually. read more

How often do you leave a car shop and feel like you got not just a good deal, but a blessing? I have. Every time I come here. I have solid mechanical abilities, I've even replaced a clutch on my M3 by myself. I do all my own mechanical work. But I have found the expertise, the amazing amount of knowledge here at Avus to be a humbling experience! Their knowledge and experience is simply superb. And their customer service is beyond anything you will find anywhere else. Enough to where I feel guilty. And yet, the prices are so fair you have to wonder how any other shop can compete. They don't. I now live in NorCal, and I still bring my car here for major servicing. And this last New Year Eve my M3 broke a shock mount while I was visiting my parents. These guys were on it! I am a big fan of Avus Autosports for several reasons. 1. Professionalism - both in demeanor and in competence. They approach problems in a very systematic and professional way. When they fix something, I feel confident that the problem is resolved. 2. Straightforwardness - Avus has always clearly explained the problem I may be facing, and how they are planning to approach it. It makes it easy for me to understand the potential costs and why they are justified. 3. Customer Service - This past Labor Day weekend, I had a significant problem with my X5. Even though Avus was closed, they picked up my phone call and let me bring my car into the shop. This saved me from having to do another trip during the workweek, saving me from having to take time off of work. Overall, I have been very pleased with my experiences at Avus. Although they may not be the cheapest shop in town, their professionalism, competence, and great customer service more than make up for this. The pride of workmanship and years of experience is evident from the moment you enter; The shop is meticulously organized. No time was lost with either locating or resolving the issue with my MINI; I was back on the road in no time at all. Its difficult to argue with that level of competency and dedication. To add to that, I was a new customer and yet I was treated like a close friend. The courtesy and attention and professionalism that I experienced with the Team is worthy of the highest praises. EXCELLENT SERVICE, CLEAN SHOP, DINAN-APPROVED. These guys did a Dinan Stage 1 suspension upgrade on my 2013 1-series and an oil and filter change upon break-in (1300+ miles). Completely agree that BMW maintenance schedule is not comprehensive if you own your car - it's really for leases. Glad I found a shop that did the maintenance using genuine BMW parts at a price lower than the dealer. All work performed to a high standard and in the time promised. Since I left the car overnight, there is an Enterprise Rent-A-Car a couple miles away that came to pick me up and drop me off. The shop is enclosed and secure, so no worries about the safety of your car. Amir is knowledgeable about BMWs and Minis and the performance parts. For example, he knew the 1-series has crazy wheel offsets and very few wheel manufacturers make wheels that will work right out of the box. These guys are honest in telling which upgrades will make a difference and which will make less of a difference. Will be bringing my car in for regular maintenance and use these guys for upgrades (wheels, tires, sway bars). read more

I recently took my '92 535 to get it looked at, as the back breaks haven't been replaced in years and I was getting some noise while turning that had been concerning me. I called the shop and was immediately able to bring my car in (something that has never happened to me before). Within minutes of stepping on to the floor I knew this shop was different from the others I have worked with. The floor was spotless, well-lit and had the feeling of a showroom rather than the greasy, unkempt garages I've been used to. It was obvious they took great pride in their work, and were eager to set customers at ease about entrusting their cars to them. After leaving my car to be inspected, I got a call to return to the shop no more than 20 minutes later - they had finished their inspection and wanted to personally walk me through the issues they had found. The technician took me to my car and spent a good 10 minutes with me while he showed me exactly what was wrong with my car and explaining what I was looking at (which help a lot, as I'm about as car savvy as a potato). The news was grim, and the cost to fix what was wrong with my car was way beyond my budget (even after their generous offer to lower the cost of repair by over 10%). As I had been cast among Southern California's almost 1 in 5 unemployed (without benefits) for over half of 2010, my finances were not in a place where I could reasonably afford to repair my machine... but this is where the story turns. The owner understood my problems, and told me he had witnessed more than his fair share of people in my exact situation. In an effort to give a man in hard times a break, he not only wrote off my entire inspection ($115), but filled my oil and power steering fluid with high quality fluid that may give my car a fighting chance of surviving long enough for me to finally afford those desperately needed repairs... all for free. In short: the people at Avus Autosport care. Not just about making a buck, or creating a repeat customer base, but about honestly helping the people who come to their shop leave with a better car than they came there with. My visit to Avus cost THEM money... and they never asked for anything in return. So I'm writing this review - in hopes that people will keep supporting these guys. AVUS is a great place to have any type of work done to your BMW/Mini. whether you need routine maintenance, major or minor work done, AVUS is the place. I trust them with all my cars (3 of them) and I would not go anywhere else! Andrew, Amir, Sandro, Ruben & Herm are very knowledgeable and I always get a full explanation that I can understand before and after any work is done to my cars. When you leave your BMW with these guys, you know it's in good hands. I've had 4 visits to this location (all different issues) and they quickly identified the problem, gave me a quote and fixed it within 48 hrs. To be on the safe side, I called other BMW shops, and their prices were right in-line (sometimes lower) than other locations. I have been taking my 2003 325xi to Avus for almost 7 years. I can't say enough good things about them. They have always treated me fairly and have kept my car in tip top shape. I am very impressed with their professionalism and service. I have friends that have the same vehicle and their cars have seen better days. My car is still running strong. They always explain everything to me and were very nice to my fiancé when he called them to talk about my car. I believe that when you find something or someone good in life you should stick with them. That's why I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. 6 Months ago I purchased a 1997 BMW 740i. The car has 135,000 miles on it and it seems that the previous owner stopped maintaining it around 100,000 miles. When I originally purchased it, I took it to a mechanic that my friend had recomended to me. This mechanic was unable to comprehend any of the complexities of the 740i and ended up putting my throttle body on backwards which caused the transmission to stop shifting and my stability program to stop working. This mechanic had the vehicle for 3 weeks and could not figure out why or how he had done it, and accused me for giving him a car with a broken transmission without telling him, in an attempt to scam him into buying me a new transmission. This went on for weeks while he tried to sell me new transmissions to fix the problem and could not figure it out. After 3 weeks I took it back from him and limped the car home in manual mode. Later that week I took it to Avus and met with Andrew. I was immediatly impressed by this shop, it is very clean and very well lit and looks like a shop owned by professionals. His entire staff, down to the "receptionist" Jonathan are true professionals and are possess a deep knowledge of every BMW. They even have an old german man who I am convinced could talk about BMW's with you for the entire time that your car is being repaired. I did not call before droping in on them and Jonathan and Andrew both stopped what they were doing to talk with me. I explained my situation and told the story about the previous mechanic. Although their shop was full of BMW's and a few Ferrari's, Andrew took a mechanic off a job to work on my car full time that same day. The next day, they had rebuilt the entire car and it was ready for me to pick up. I am now the owner of a brand new 1997 BMW 740i. The first mechanic had identified about 40% of the problems with the car, he saw that the control arm bushings were going and a few other minor things, but the mechanics at Avus found and fixed many things that the first mechanic had no idea about. This undoubtably saved me thousands of dollars of repair when these parts would have broken later on, and this display of skill by the mechanics are the main reason to bring your BMW here. Another large benefit that I see in going with Avus over the dealership, other than the price savings, is the fact that Andrew and his mechanics remember not only me as a person, but also my car. This along with the ability to walk in and ask a question or advice and get professional answers within minutes is invaluable to me. I have had multiple conversations with Andrew about the way he runs his shop, and he is a true business professional. He understands that to create the best BMW center in the country that he has to hire the best BMW mechanics in the country, and has done so. His mechanics are so good that they also repair Ferrari's, not because they are Ferrari mechanics, but because they are such good mechanics that they can work on anything. Andrew himself is not a mechanic and does not work on the cars but is a businessman and it really shows when he is able to repair 14 different things on a 740i in a day and a half. Andrew is a very honest person, for example, once while I was waiting for a service a woman with a 1992 735i came in that she had just bought. He had his mechanics look it over and told her the car was totaled and that she has a case for the california lemon law, and that she should return it to the dealer. He could have made 10,000 dollars repairing all of the things on her 5,000 dollar car but she was asking for his advice and he told her to return it. I am sure he would have repaired it if she had wanted him to, but she wanted his advice and he chose to tell her that he would back her up if the dealer put up a fight when she tried to return it. In summary, if you care about your BMW you would be doing yourself a disservice by going to any other location. I have talked with other customers who were there while I was there and some of them drive hundreds of miles for an oil change just because the service is so good. read more

Hands down the best place to take your BMW! I had a bolt in my tire for my 530i, had it fixed somewhere else, but the computer read it as a flat tire. Took it in to have it check/reset the computer, and normally it would be $115 for the inspection, but it was a quick fix and they did it for me for free. Just put new frames around the license plate! The guys were very friendly and the shop foreman is a master technician, and sometimes even Pacific BMW dealership calls him for questions. Their rate is $115/hr, which is $60-70 cheaper than dealerships. Plus, 20% cheaper on parts average. Plus, they are honest and will try to save you money. Definitely going back for all my maintenance needs! read more

My daily driver, a 2000 M5 loaded with Dinan goodies (installed at Avus) has been serviced at Avus Autosport since their inception in 2002. As a female, they have always thoroughly explained any service work being performed. When I have been in a rush, they have provided me with shuttle rides and even emailed me pics of work being done. While I know M cars can be a bit more maintenance, Avus has repaired my M properly and promptly, all at a fair price. They won't do any unauthorized work and will make notes on the paperwork for items I can hold off on. Repairs came cheaper than I expected! My BMW was diagnosed with multiple problems with the motor, ignition coils, gasket, and thermostat. I only had 2 things repaired because it would be really out of budget for me, but they ended up replacing one of my ignition coils for free so that my car doesn't run as crappy while i wait to get it repaired again. My M3 was in need of desperate help and Avus came through for me when I needed it the most. I had just completed installing a used Dinan supercharge kit on my 98 M3 and when I started it up there were major problems. It was smoking like crazy and the check engine light was on. I tried to figure it out myself, but soon found that I was in over my head. I decided to bring it in to a shop, but I had no idea where to take it. I did a Google search for BMW and Dinan, and found Avus. I called on a Saturday even though they were closed and Andrew answered the phone. I asked if I could tow it to their shop to look at. He said no problem, so that's what I did. Turns out there was oil being sucked into the intake manifold due to a faulty valve. In addition, the motor had 155,000 miles on it, and had seen numerous track days and autocrosses. I probably wasn't thinking clearly when I decided to install a supercharger, because as it turned out the head gasket was leaking, the valve seals were leaking, and it was burning oil. Ruben highly recommended that I replace the rings and have the head machined. I'm going to be honest, I wasn't prepared to spend a lot of money on the car and when I found out what the story was I was pretty upset. But I made the decision to move forward because I love the car and I couldn't think of any other car to buy that would be better than my M3. Andrew and Ruben assured me that the engine would feel brand new, and that the supercharger would be working perfectly. Ruben worked on the car for a few weeks and I stopped by a few times to check it out. He really knew what he was doing and he showed me everything that he was fixing. Believe me, he does not do a half-ass job, and as he said to me, "We only do things one way here, and that's the right way." So I felt my car was in good hands. The time finally came to pick up the car. It was quite a bill, but then again I had the entire engine rebuilt and a supercharger installed. I had to break in the motor by keeping the RPMs under 5000 for 1000 miles. After that I could finally push it. Let's just say the car is scary fast. It can hang with Porsches and Ferraris. And the engine is smooth as butter. Needless to say I was very happy with their work. read more

I have an '05 Mini Cooper S . . . a car that I custom ordered, took delivery of right off the boat, and have since enjoyed a freak driving, detailing, maintaining obsession. As one might imagine, I've become rather particular about the car on every level. Years ago I owned a beautiful BMW 320i, an '83 model year car that was a sublime example of the series. I mention this because prior the Mini, my experience with the high bar of BMW products and the manner they are maintained had already been set. I had the great fortune to become acquainted with Avus through my friends at Autobooks. Despite the good word I remained cautious and dropped by to get the skinny, my guard up in full. I can be simultaneously skeptical yet maintain a keen sense of my gut and its impartial judge of character. Long story short, my guard dropped almost immediately. I could tell that these guys were passionate about the marque . . . passionate about the manner in which they run their business . . . and more importantly I sensed that they truly cared about their customers cars. All one has to do is quickly scan the cars in their garage to get a feel for the client base Avus attracts. I realized that I would not be their only discriminatory client, and as a first time customer this was invaluable. Cutting to the chase, Avus has since serviced my car several times and on each occasion the quality of their work has been exceptional. The car simply drives better every time, even if it's overall road disposition wasn't on the work order. I am in the early stages of my relationship with Avus, but I'm pretty certain it will continue to grow long term . . . hopefully with the size of my own garage. Their complimentary coffee is the only good thing they have going for them, but what matters is service. They will try to sell you 'packaged' services that are overpriced and often unnecessary. AVUS will focus on what you *actually* need worked on. AVUS knows who I am, and keeps good records of my vehicle and is very good at recommending and explaining what your car needs and why. Moreover, if you want to soup up your car with sport enhancements they're excellent at that too! AVUS is a shop that will deliver genuine, no-nonsense, quality service. I'm very critical when it comes to car maintenance and will rarely even valet my car. In general I don't trust many people with my car. However, the crew at AVUS are alway very thorough and I'm satisfied with every visit... and even look forward to it! I have a BMW 330i 2006 and it needed to be serviced. Simply used Yelp to find a nearby place that can help me out. Came across Avus and saw that it had some great reviews along with a few not so great reviews. After taking my car to Avus it is clear to me that the not so great reviews are complete BS. Amir and Andrew were awesome and made sure to explain everything my car needed before they even worked on it. Of course they had some additional recommendations in which they also pointed out which issues would need immediate attention while others may not. I can't say enough good things about this shop. I've been bringing my 1997 BMW Z3 here since I bought it in 2007, and I will take the car to no one else! Andrew and the guys are honest, fair, and just do great work. They always advise me about what needs to be addressed NOW, and which repairs I can postpone until further down the line. In 13 years they've done repairs both large and small - clutch replacement, catalytic converter, brakes, oil changes, the whole shebang, and I've been happy with all of it. Also, their shop is so clean they could probably perform surgery in there. I'm at 215,000 miles and I'm coming here until the car sputters off this mortal coil for good. I've been taking my car here since 2003 and have never had a bad experience. Andrew has always given me the truth, even when the news wasn't good. They've kept me from needing a new vehicle and I love them and hate them for it at the same time.
