I used to take my E36 to Avus from about 2002 to 2004. Their prices were never impressive, but they were cheaper than the dealer. Very clean shop, as everyone else states, and Avus takes pride in it. I always trusted them on the diagnostics and did the work they recommended. At one point they said my water pump was beginning to fail and I should replace it to make sure I don't get stuck on the road somewhere. Since they were replacing the radiator, it was a good time to do the water pump as well. I wasn't losing coolant, but didn't want to get stranded. Shortly after, I moved across town and started going to another shop that was closer to my house. Immediately after the water pump was replaced, I noticed I was losing coolant. I kept having to top it off. It was losing enough that the low coolant warning would illuminate about a couple months prior to the service due, so I usually had to top it off myself. I took it back to Avus several times and told them that I am losing coolant enough that it triggers the idiot light. They would look it over and say no problems found and top it off for me. I was clear with Andrew that prior to the radiator and water pump replacement (which they said was needed) I was losing no coolant, and now I'm losing quite a bit of coolant. They looked at it 2 to 3 times and couldn't find anything wrong. About 2 years later, the new shop I was going to said I have a leaky water pump. It's leaking onto the engine block and it sizzles off never reaching the ground. Armed with this new finding, I went back to Avus. I told them about the other shop's finding and said that since Avus replaced the water pump and after the service I was immediately losing coolant, it was probably a bad part. They got pissed that I would dare go back and ask to warranty a 2 year old part. They said they get all their parts from BMW and they are top quality. I answered it's either a bad part or bad installation. Andrew got furious. His face turned red and if it was a cartoon he would have had steam coming out of his ears. He lost his cool, his professionalism was waning, but in the end he offered to replace it and give me a break on the labor but I had to buy the part. The total price he quoted me was on par with what the dealer would have charged for the same service out the door. I walked away and haven't been back since. read more

WAY WAY TOO EXPENSIVE I took my 330 in for service and used the voucher when it was done for a free car wash. When the car wash was over the car didnt start. They had to tow it back to Avus and REPLACE THE BATTERY for which they just checked I had the Major service done the $700 one for better more reliable service go to the M shop however if you do want DINAN (waste of $$) this is the place to be. I took my 2008 BMW E92 to Avus to diagnose a check engine soon light. My car was misfiring and using too much fuel. I got the "free" diagnose and they told me that the ignition coil in cylinder 3 needed to be replaced and since the car had 60,000 miles, the spark plugs were changed as well. Two hours and 500 dollars later I was back on the road. The very next morning I started the car and was having the exact same issue. Drove my car back to the shop, hooked it up to the computer and, same issue! Code is for bad ignition coil in cylinder 3. I was told that this means I need the injector changed. They put some Injector cleaner in my car and sent me on my way. Car still not working. The following day I took my car to a different mechanic. He was able to diagnose why I was getting the same error code. Avus, changed ignition coil 4, not 3! How can you make such a stupid error? These guys will bleed you dry and change parts that don't need changing. Do not go here. read more

Took my '08 Mini Cooper S in for the first time EARLY today because I needed my breaks fixed. I loved how fast it all took, about two hours. I do recommend getting there when they open at eight am. Upon checking out I was given suggestions on future repairs but I didn't feel rushed or forced on any of them! My only disappointment was the bill. Womp womp! Don't go anywhere else. Amir inspected my 2003 325i when I was buying on Craigslist, and warned me that the window regulator might give out soon (in addition to a full vehicle report). Sure enough, the window regulator gave out that summer. I had Avus replace my expansion tank (holds the coolant) as a precaution on my 13 year old car. 9 months later when coolant started leaking, Amir located the problem (a different part in the cooling system), and replaced it for FREE! I just had my rear brakes and rotors replaced at Avus. I needed to get it fixed ASAP and Andrew got me in right away and they worked on it as I waited. I didn't have to leave my car the whole day, get a rental, or schedule weeks in advance. Avus is accommodating and has great customer service. I have been taking my '01 325ci to them since the factory warranty expired and I have been extremely pleased with their perfectionism, professionalism, attention to detail and customer service. I wish I had known about Avus when I drove my beloved '96 Ti - if properly serviced, I would probably still be driving that car today. BMW's are meant to last. If you are considering other shops make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Avus uses only OEM parts and employs only SEASONED BMW MECHANICS. These guys are passionate perfectionists and master diagnosticians. You won't have to bring your car in time and time again. They get the job done right the first time. After years of terrible dealer service, I brought my '04 M3 to Andrew at Avus Autosport for what I thought would be major transmission repair after warranty. After Ruben's expert diagnosis, it turned out that it was a much more simple repair, and I was as good, (actually better, they had some improvements they made to the suspension) than new faster and cheaper than any dealer. First of all two words, CUSTOMER SERVICE!! The first time I brought my car to them I spoke with Andrew right when they were closing. Not only did he keep the shop open and wait for me, he even offered to come to where I was if needed. I got a call from him early the next day explaining what was going on and they had my M3 back to me that night in better condition than when I bought it! Every other time I've brought the car in they have gone above and beyond to make sure everything is right. I couldn't recommend them more. Ruben, the master tech, is hands-down the most well informed, knowledgable, competent mechanic I've come across in my entire BMW lifetime (15 years). Did you ever finish a business dealing and came out feeling like you've just been fleeced? That's what it felt like after dealing with this shop. Their initial diagnosis was a blown radiator hose. I authorized them to perform the repair. The next day they found a whole host of additional problems with my car that needed repair. Based on the Yelp reviews (which at the time were all 5 star reviews) I trusted that these guys were honest and authorized the additional repairs as well. The additional work came out to be well over a thousand dollars! I begrudgingly paid and vowed never to trust Yelp reviews again. These guys are great. They are the only people I trust with my M3 in LA. I used them for a Pre-Purchase inspection and they saved me from buying a lemon. I've been using them for maintenance and repairs of the car I did end up getting ever since. Andrew and the guys have always been very accommodating, and it's clear they do a lot of work. Well, I now live in San Diego and have moved back to my hometown since my last review of January 2011. I recently had to say goodbye to my old 2001 BMW 330 due to a freak accident while visiting Colorado. My car saved my life even though I hit an elk going 60mph at night in minus 2 degrees. The amazing part of this story is that I was able to continue my drive another two hours. I ended up driving the car back to San Diego but unfortunately the insurance declared the car a total loss. It was a sad ended to a car that I had since 2001... Anyway, I found a replacement 2004 BMW 330 ZHP edition in San Diego. Before purchasing the car I had a local tech at a BMW dealership perform a pre-purchase inspection of the car. He found a laundry list of parts that needed immediate attention such as replacing the seals in the differential that was leaking. He informed me that the oil filter housing was leaking and the gasket needed to be replaced. Also the cyclone oil separator needed to be replaced with all of the various hoses. I was told that the control arm bushing needed to be replaced as well as both control arms. The long story is that with parts and labor I was looking at well over $6,000 dollars. Now I as able to get the car at a very low price but still had to factor in the necessary repairs. I ended up purchasing the car and decided to make an appointment with Avus once again as I had in the past. To me it's worth the drive to Avus to have the experts inspect my new car. During the drive I was hoping that it was the typical dealership trying to up-sell me a bunch of service and parts that were not needed. When I arrived they were waiting for me and took the car immediately and put it up on the rack. After spending some time looking at it, Andrew showed me what was wrong with the car and what repairs needed immediate attention. Both Andrew and Amir knew that I made the drive from San Diego and that any repairs would have to be completed the same day. As it turns out, more than half of the repairs that the dealership said needed to be done were not needed at all. The control arm bushing/arms were fine. The oil separator did not need to be replaced, just one hose and the oil filter housing was not leaking at all. Again, it was just another hose that needed to be replaced. With this good news I decided to have piece of mind and have a full Inspection II service along with the differential repair. Andrew had two of his techs working at various times together to make sure all of the work would be completed for me. All of the parts needed to repair my car including rebuilding the cooling system where on the shelf at his shop. He even had a replacement shift knob that was needed! Here's the best news, it all came together and and my out the door price was no where close to the $6,000 quote from the dealership. I'm writing this review after two weeks of driving the car and everything is great with no issues! Whether you live a mile or two from Avus or over an hour or more away, it is worth the drive to have the crew at Avus service your car. As I said in my previous review, they spend the time to thoroughly explain any issues and recommend which repairs are necessary and which ones can be postponed. I brought my 2006 x3 BMW to Avus Autosport in Glendale after having read so many wonderful reviews on Yelp. I was absolutely pleased with the service and thank all of the yelpers before me for recommending this place! I called ahead of time to schedule an immediate appointment to deal with my check engine light problem and was told I could come in that very same hour! Other BMW shops expected me to wait until later in the week for even a simple diagnosis. I wanted immediate service and the mechanics at Avus did everything they could to get me back on the road quickly but safely! The shop itself is extremely easy to find and very well kept. I recommend you watch the video on this page provided by Avus since the shop looks exactly as advertised; clean and well-organized. Unlike most shops, Avus stores a majority of their parts on the site to avoid unnecessary shipping delays etc. It was great not having to wait for them to special order any odd parts since they had everything they needed ready to go. This is a major plus! Amir at the front desk was very polite, considerate, and caring. I had a chance to meet Andrew, the owner of Avus, and Ruben, the Master Technician. They all took the time to show me the parts that needed replacement and provided explanations. I was able to see for myself what was damaged or worn out. They were all so obviously passionate and knowledgeable about BMWs! Most importantly, they worked together to provide me with impressive discounts of up to $200 as a first time customer. This made the cost of all the repairs and labor costs more affordable and within reach. Andrew, Amir, and Ruben do whatever they can to please their customers and gain their respect! My warranty on my bmw e92 m3 expired recently, so I have been looking for a local shop to service my car. I decided to take the car to Avus from a friend's recommendation, and I couldn't be happier! Andrew and Amir are outstanding guys, Amir also has a lot of track experience, which was extremely helpful for the work that I have done to the car. I have to say their prices are a bit expensive, but I believe the premium you pay shows in the quality of their work. They also make an effort to tell you pre-existing conditions of the car, and they fixed a few issues at no additional cost to me. Avus has been working on my BMWs for more than 10 years. They are absolutely fabulous and charge very reasonable prices. I keep buying BMWs because I know I can trust the guys at Avus to provide quality and fair priced service. There is absolutley no place better, and Andrew is very kind. If you are a woman, you can relax because this place is not going to rip you off just because you don't understand cars well. I once took my car to Glendale BMW and they told me I needed work on my car that was going to cost $1300. When I found out my car was not under warranty, I left there immediately and went to Avus. I think my previous review is under the filtered side, which considering I have other reviews on Yelp, I don't quite understand. In any event, I love this place. I hate dealing with car stuff, but they make it easy. The owner, Andrew, takes a lot of pride in giving GREAT service. I know I will get a fair price and honest opinions here. Today they didn't charge me for putting in a lost grille, and even though I hadn't warned them, they also managed to fix another problem for me (a button that was not working). I can't recommend them highly enough. If this does get to the main page, please look at filtered reviews if you want more information and judge for yourself. Had these guys do some engine work on my BMW 3-Series today, and I was really satisfied with the experience. I emailed them to get a quote, and they responded almost immediately. They gave me an appointment for the next day. While they had my car, they communicated very well with me. They even sent pictures of the work they were doing so that I could see what the problems were.That was a nice touch. They charged about half the amount the dealer wanted to charge me. And they were really courteous and professional as I was picking it up. Overall a great experience. I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I need some work done. read more
