I've has a lot of vegan ice creams and AWAN's was the closest to tasting like regular dairy ice cream! Their flavors are unique and curated that you can't find them anywhere else. There was a like on a Sunday night since it was only one person working. They share their seating space with Dayglow so there is plenty of tables at night. Meter/street parking can be tricky to find. read more

Flavor: 4/5 Service: 2/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Awan is sort of hidden next to a coffee shop and shares the common area with them. Service was very nonchalant. It was one guy working inside a booth looking small space and he seemed very reluctant to let us try the flavors, whereas other ice cream shops would be happy to do otherwise. We ordered two flavors: Cinnamon & Black Rice as well as Chocolate Oreo. I think I'd come back if I were vegan, but overall, I don't think it's worth coming back due to service. Nice Indonesian ice cream spot. It is small tiny shop next to coffee shop and it serve vegan ice cream. The seating place is at the street level. It doesn't have many choices but it is interesting they shave Indonesua palm broen sugar as garnish. Eventhough it is vegan ice cream, the taste is like regular ice cream. Pricewise it is quite high. read more

parking is a hit or a miss. i was at the weho location and noticed the price on the board for a single was not the price i was rang up for. Even if prices increased this should be visible to customers accurately. Flavors are actually solid. Long long lines not enough staff. I waited 25 -30 min in line. read more

I'm not the biggest sweet tooth and have such a high standard for ice cream and can say this dessert spot is a gem in LA. My friend and I decided to visit after a Wednesday afternoon spent in Beverly Hills and we enjoyed both our flavors Cantaloupe Melon and Garza Banana Lemon Curd. The ambience and vibe is laid back, perfect for a post dinner meet in my opinion. I would definitely come back if I'm craving healthy ice cream as it's so unique and feels like a hidden spot in town. read more

If TikTok says it's yummy, best believe I have to check it out! I got the Matcha and Balinese Vanilla Bean and did not regret it at all. Believe it or not, I finished the icecream in 5 minutes because it was so tasty (and I was dying from the summer heat!....would I do it again? Absolutely!) The cashier was very sweet and welcoming. I wish I caught her name ! She gave us a few flavors to try and even recommended us her favorite flavor. Now, let's talk about the ambiance...one word only...WOW! LOVED Awan's vegan coconut-based ice-creams. This would be a 5 star review if the price for the portion wasn't so darn steep... I ordered one scoop of matcha guava and one scoop of the Lilikoi flavor which came out to $12 for two scoops. When I was rang up, I was also asked to leave a tip ! Yikes. Yknow, coconut milk may be the answer to my life's problems and AWAN got me to that specific answer. Note that you can miss this place if you're heading westbound on Santa Monica Blvd. but if you're heading eastbound, behind the sex shop is a blue wall that houses Dayglow coffee and AWAN. Every much enjoyed my two scoops of Balinese Vanilla Bean and Valencia Orange. The Vanilla was creamy and not too sweet while the Orange hit the right note of tang. For vegan ice cream, this is probably the best I've had since they use coconut milk in a masterful way to achieve the creaminess yet no coconut aftertaste. Already devoured my pint which they offer in 16oz here. To my lactose peeps and/or general ice cream lovers, I think this place is def worth a visit. read more

Tucked away with dayglow coffee in the middle of Weho is probably the best gelato I've had in Los Angeles. I'm actually so sad their Larchmony locations as well as melrose are closed. Their gelato truly uses the best quality of ingredients and I wish i could've tried some of their pint flavors. Although pricey definitely worth it since you can taste the quality of the ingredients in the ice cream. The blue yuzu lemonade had such a citrusy yet not sour yuzu flavor which was so addicting and the chocolate Oreo was decadent and rich. I loved how the gelato was not too sweet and that I was able to taste the quality of the Ingredients. I will definitely come back if I'm ever craving gelato. read more

Interesting concept for ice cream in a pretty weird nook of weho. AWAN is vegan ice cream and the flavors are unique albeit unconventional. My group essentially got every flavor so we got to sample a bit of everything so here goes nothing: Vanilla: this isn't your traditional vanilla, it's got like 7 other flavors happening here so it tastes like vanilla but also other spices. Is it good? Yes. Golden Vanilla: it's the vanilla but with even more spices like tumeric and stuff. It's unique but definitely couldn't handle more than like 3 bites max. Orange: it's orange but got some spice and more to it. Same thing, nice and fruity but I can maybe handle 3 bites max. Matcha: this seems standardized across all places. Matcha tastes like matcha, can't go wrong with it. Usually. Chocolate: this isn't so bad either, it's not super rich and sweet like your normal chocolates but it still satisfies that chocolate craving without making you feel guilty about it. I tried my best but I forgot the other flavors (also note these aren't the true names of the flavors I had, I have short term memory loss and can't be bothered to look for their menu again oops). Whatever it is, this is a nice and unique ice cream shop if you're in the area. read more

I tried multiple samples. What really stood out to me was the guava! Creamy and refreshing. My friends loved the matcha and one of the chocolate ones. There is a seating area which is great. The downside would be the location to order is kind of hidden. Yes Google maps does point to the correct location, however due to lack of signage at a visible spot, you could potentially miss it. I've been meaning to try Awan for awhile & luckily I was in the area & finally gave it a try! Balinese vanilla cream literally tasted like coconut cream but sweeter & the gula jawa is the cherry on top! a rly lovely vegan spot! The only downside was that it was hard to find, especially at night bc there isn't a big sign & our apple maps took us to the front instead. its really easy to miss & parking is difficult to come by but its hidden next to dayglow! just go past where all the seats & bathrooms by the blue building. read more

i just had the most rudest interaction with your staff member he wasn't in the front at the counter for 10 mins when i arrived and when he came up to the counter and i explained to him i had to go back and forth due to no wheelchair access to this location he said he had a lot going and took it out on me as the customer it was the most rudest interaction ive ever encountered you need better staff im disgusted i told him i couldn't get my baby down the stairs and that i was by myself and he said that had nothing to do with him because i said his production in the back has nothing to do with the customer???? My friend and I were getting coffee from Dayglow, but my friend noticed this window next to it - ice cream!! How could we not try it? After coffee, we lined up at the order window. It took maybe 5 min for the person working there to get to us, seemed like a one man show, but once he was there he was attentive to us. I was glad to be able to sample multiple flavors - I tried Balinese vanilla, Valencia orange, blueberry lavender, and pistachio saffron. They were all good but I decided to go with blueberry lavender. I enjoyed blueberry lavender. It's very blueberry forward though, the lavender flavor is subtle. It does have a nice tanginess, I wonder if they add some lemon too? The flavor is refreshing but the ice cream itself is quite heavy and filling like dairy ice cream. This is vegan but it's made with coconut cream so it's very creamy. I would recommend sharing with a friend. Also on the same note, the flavor of coconut is going to be present throughout all the flavors so if you don't like coconut, don't come here LOL. Dayglow and Awan share a seating area right across from the shops where you can drink your coffee and enjoy your ice cream. I would come back here the next time I was in WeHo, and this is a great follow up to coffee. I am glad to see Indonesian flavors in ice cream! They feel unique and it's worth a visit imo. read more

Probably the best vegan AND gluten-free ice cream you'll ever eat! Maybe even the best ice cream. Period. The flavors of each were all super rich and delicious without feeling too heavy. In terms of seating, there are a few seating options outside. The place itself is a single window, a hole in the wall. Service was great you can sample all the flavors you want. I'm really disappointed with my experience at AWAN on Huntley Drive. They are supposed to open at 3:00 PM. When I arrived just before opening, there was already a line of people outside waiting. 3:00 came and went -- and no one unlocked the door. We waited for a while thinking someone would show up, but no one ever did. There was no sign, no explanation, and no communication whatsoever. Eventually, we -- along with several other guests -- had to leave because they simply never opened. What makes this more frustrating is that in prior visits, the staff has come across as somewhat snobby and dismissive. So this lack of professionalism feels like part of a pattern rather than a one-off mistake. It's disappointing because the concept is great, but reliability and basic courtesy matter. read more

The best vegan ice cream I've ever had! Having the base as Indonesian coconut milk is pure genius. It was so creamy but light at the same time without a strong coconut flavor. As an Indonesian myself I was very excited to hear about this place, especially the Balinese vanilla flavor. I'm so glad it met and exceeded my expectations. The vanilla is more aromatic than other vanilla I've had in the past. Topping it off with the gula jawa was the perfect texture with amazing coconutty-brown-sugar flavor. A split scoop was $10 so be aware of the steep price but with the amazing consistency and flavors, this was more than worth it! read more

I am low key obsessed with this place at the moment. I have yet to come here and have something that I did not like. And the staff is so friendly. It actually feels like you are visiting a friend at their job. I love the variety of the flavors that they have. I recently had the birthday cake and I could have taken a tub home with me. The espresso has some flavor of coconut, which I don't love, but the raspberry didn't have coconut at all and was really fresh and bright! Stopped by Awan with my boyfriend a few weeks ago after dinner. We got there about 30 minutes before closing, and the line was already out the door! I started worrying they wouldn't take our order, but luckily they did. They only had one worker handling everything, so it was a bit slow, but we were grateful they let us order. We each got two scoops, and while I can't remember the exact flavors I do remember they were super unique and tasty. This was such a sweet treat to find in the midst of WeHo Pride as Santa Monica Blvd. was blocked off from vehicular traffic and packed with revelers. You'd think there would be a long queue for this spot, but its location was so well hidden away that Jamie W. and I were the only ones taking samples of the unusually flavorful vegan ice cream served here. Apparently it's an Indonesian-originated product made with coconut cream, cane sugar, sea salt, and Balinese vanilla bean. If someone told me vegan ice cream could be this good, I wouldn't believe them. I've tried a handful of different shops around the US so my experience wasn't the best. After having had AWAN multiple times now, I retract my statement. Even though a single scoop is $8 (single split scoop is $10), take my money!!!! I've tried so many different flavors so it's hard to say my favorites. They also rotate their flavors pretty often, once one of them is out of stock. Check their Insta for current flavors! Be sure to ask for samples, but be courteous with your time as there tends to be a small line. It's located inside a small corner right next to Dayglow. There is paid street parking available around the neighborhood and also neighborhood parking, but beware of signs! read more

Forgot your Lactaid? There's no need to worry! AWAN is the little hidden gem that makes delicious vegan ice cream flavors for all! I've only tried the most basic flavor I could find, Vanilla, and already was very surprised at how creamy it was! The gentleman at the window took extra care when scooping as well since my ice cream was perfectly round, and had great toppings! It is a little hidden, but if you can find Dayglow, look to the left of the coffee place and you'll find the ice cream window right next door! There are a few benches outside so that folks can enjoy their ice cream and or coffee with friends or by themself. Don't forget to stop by! I know I definitely am a fan! read more

Incredible ice cream! If you are sensitive to taste and subtle flavors that carry exquisite after taste, this is for you! My favorite is the Balinese Vanilla Bean and Thai tea sesame. Thai tea sesame was out of this world for me more that I'm a fan of both flavors. The sesame was made roasted and crunchy that it almost tasted like crispy Oreo and cream except it is Thai tea and sesame seed flavors. My brain was processing out the unique flavor combination because it just worked so well together. Presentation was amazing. The topping added to the ice cream I can tell was deliberately added not only for looks but to enhance the flavor of each bite like cherry on top. read more

Had such a great experience getting the not-ice cream from here. I believe the staff that helped me is named Evan (apologies if wrong). He was so friendly and helpful in explaining the flavors and answering my questions. Super easy and straight forward transaction. Was able to grab and go approx. 30 mins prior to closing. I was expecting a full store front but the goodies were just being sold out of a window. Sampled a couple of flavors, lemongrass was good and refreshingly-different, but ended up getting the marigold and black sesame. Would come back! read more

We both had water. Still walked out saying 75$ 75 $! I mean it was truly a Burger King patty on a stale bun and a chicken wrap that looked like it was from Ralph's. So so very very disappointed and prob won't go back cause server said oh well. That's the food the kitchen puts out. I am new I don't know what it used to be like. ( used to be was just in April when I had a burger there last )‍ Oh Hugo's. 15 years of joy gone in one disgusting meal.

They are 100% gluten free and certified kosher. I revisited Modern Bread and Bagel twice more since my last review (which was delivery). Service in house was great both times. But the quality of the food was vastly different. On one visit we ordered the raspberry matcha loaf, orange loaf, and chocolate zucchini loaf. The raspberry matcha was my favorite of the three. We also got the potato leak quiche which was yummy. I ordered the Farmer's Market bagel but when I got home I noticed they gave me Spicy Feta bagel instead. Tried calling to let them know but they didn't pick up. It turned out to be a happy accident. We wanted to go back and get it again. We liked it so much. I also got the zaatar tuna which was tasty but it was a bit too crunchy for me with lots of celery. Some people may like it that way but I like it more smooth. My next visit however, was not a success. It was, again, a to-go order. Sadly, none of the food tasted fresh. I ordered pastries and the Spicy Feta again. The bagel on the Spicy Feta was hard as a rock. We were unable to cut it with a knife. Such a shame. A sharp difference from the time before. At a bagel shop I expect consistency in the quality of bagels. The pastries, although beautiful to look at, didn't seem like they were made that day. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times to let them know about the bagel and pastries but no one ever answered. I was disappointed that I couldn't reach out to a team member to solve the issue. They really need to get someone to answer the phone. I really wanted to give this restaurant 4 or 5 stars because it has so much to offer and the concept is wonderful. However, the quality of the food was inconsistent and there was no way to reach out to them to solve the issue. It's a gamble on what kind of meal you will get and it shouldn't be that way. I really hope this problem gets fixed because this place has so much potential and I really did enjoy the food the first two times.

We decided to follow his advice on the morning of the WeHo PRIDE parade and figured we should make a reservation since we thought it might be busier than usual. It was only a ten-minute walk from our hotel, and although it wasn't that crowded when we arrived, it was just nice to get a table right away. Consisting of two sunroom-style dining areas separated by an open patio, the space is definitely an LA-chic brunch kind of place. It' wasn't our usual scene, but we decided to go with the upscale vibe even if it felt a bit pricey. The menu highlighted their artisan coffees, so Jamie ordered the $5.95 Iced Latte with a $1 Mexican Mocha chaser. I went for the $7 Iced Lavender Breeze Latte, a combination of an espresso blend, lavender, and coconut (Photo 6). They were both fanciful, flavorful, and very LA-style drinks. We then shared the $15 Homemade Cornbread, a cast-iron skillet version with a heaping amount of lard in the mix plus cultured butter and honey on the side. They even shaved rows of kernels on top (Photo 10). Tasty and kinda decadent. To offset that indulgence, Jamie first went for the refreshing $7 Fruit Cup of berries, melon, and grapes (Photo 8). He then ordered the $17 California Cobb Salad. It was a healthy bountiful of butter & romaine lettuce, egg, chicken, heirloom tomato, bacon, red onion, chives, avocado, and gorgonzola, drizzled with dijon mustard vinaigrette (Photo 9). I went a more traditional breakfast route and ordered the $23 Parisian Soft Omelette, eggs cooked to a velvety consistency and topped with buerre blanc and chives. It came with roast potatoes and grilled sourdough toast (Photo 7). Sated in true SoCal style. Anyway, we had time for a round before the show. The big black door did not give us an indication of what was inside, but the 1970's art deco font of the bar name did. Inside it felt more like a Studio 54-era lounge with a big rectangular bar in the middle. However, the owners managed to avert tackiness and provide comfy plushness. The period artwork, gray banquettes, and massive amoeba-shaped chandeliers add to the sophisticated ambiance. This was definitely not the typical WeHo club west of La Cienega. There's no dance floor, so you won't hear clunky platform shoes on a rainbow florescent floor. However, you'll likely hear classic Donna Summer or Earth, Wind & Fire wafting through the space. With their black, open-collar shirts and untied sequin bow ties, the bartenders were cute and attentive. Tucked away behind another building, this ice cream shop can be a challenge to find unless you stumble upon it by chance or receive a recommendation. Unfortunately, parking in the area is akin to searching for a needle in a haystack. I had high expectation from my friend's exceeding compliments but I think the ice cream is overrated. When it comes to the ice cream itself, the options are decent, but nothing particularly stands out as unique. While there are a few unconventional flavors available, I found the overall selection to be average. I had hoped to sample a variety of flavors, but the server abruptly informed me that I needed to limit my samples due to the "line" behind me. However, when I glanced back, I saw only two other people, hardly constituting what I would consider a proper line. It felt like an exaggeration on their part, preventing me from fully exploring the flavors. In terms of price, a single scoop of ice cream will set you back $5. Considering the lack of distinctiveness in taste, I personally feel more inclined to stick with my favorite, affordable Persian ice cream that offers both quality and value. read more

Awan near Larchmont is doing something special with plant based ice cream. I tried the Gula Jawa and it was the standout. It has a deep caramel like sweetness from coconut sugar that tastes rich but not heavy. The texture was smooth and creamy, which is impressive for vegan ice cream. It melted clean and never felt icy.
