A really tasty ice cream and smoothie option right in the middle of the farmers market. I always love going to the farmers market and this is a frequent stop for me when I am in the mood for a sweet treat or when it's a warm day like it was this past weekend. The lady behind the counter was very polite, and this is more of a stand and takeout kind of place, there are no tables to sit. There are tables around the market though so just go to those if you want. Parking is also paid in this area, but many shops validate parking. For this visit, I chose the Caramel Ice Cream as well as the Bananas Foster and thought it was a great combo. It was perfectly balanced, and I would highly recommend. I also ordered a Raspberry Smoothie and thought it was fantastic. It really hit the spot on a warm day and I would also order it on a cold one as well. My family decided that they wanted a sweet treat. So as we walked around the Original Farmer's Market and we found Local Ice. My husband and son decided to get some ice cream. When it was our turn we were greeted by a friendly person that took our order and then started getting it ready for us. My husband got a red raspberry Italian ice with a scoop of vanilla on top. After all the IG ads, I finally came here and am happy I did! Great and friendly customer service, delicious high-end ice cream and Italian ice all at a reasonable price! Local Ice has been around for years and is located in the south end of the Original Farmers Market, closer to Pasta Corner, the butcher and around the corner of Michelin bakery. It is more than just an ice cream stand but a soda fountain shop, something that is pretty few and far between in Los Angeles. Not only can you get ice cream and delicious Italian ice but they also have a full coffee and espresso menu and list of sodas. Seating is ample as there are many surrounding tables that has cover or umbrellas for shade. The person who helped us was friendly and engaging. We were allowed to sample some of the flavors before ordering. My sister and her daughter ordered the cookie monster which was chockfull of cookie bits. The ice cream is high quality and creamy. It is handmade and there is no taste of any preservatives or chemicals. It's simply good quality handmade ice cream. I don't understand the comments saying that this is expensive ice cream. The prices are comparable to other artisanal ice cream shops. I ordered the watermelon ice (what I saw in an Instagram ad) and it was just PERFECT! Visited the farmers market for lunch and the flavor options at Local Ice caught our eye! I had a small cup and tried the Mexican chocolate and Oreo cheesecake. My boyfriend also got a small but went with Cookie Monster and Black Raspberry. The Oreo cheesecake was a little strong on the cheesecake so I probably wouldn't get that flavor again but it was still very fresh. I'm obsessed with the Mexican chocolate! I had a combo of two different flavors in a cup, coconut and strawberry. A little pricier than most places but much healthier as all the ingredients are organic. I truly do not mind paying a little more for anything when it brings a smile to my face and this place did such a thing after one taste of their ice cream. They're located close to Dupar's, the Louisiana food place, and the fried fruit and nuts stand, which is the end of the Farmer's Market. They offer a variety of flavors, sizes, and items to enjoy for different tastes. The people who work there were friendly and worked quickly to get orders fulfilled. (The line moved quickly and got shorter as a result.) I ordered their largest size of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream to share with family. Pricing is a bit high but I chalk that up to the fact that the Farmer's Market has always been high, due to location and it's Los Angeles. They give you a lot for your money and the consistency is smooth and creamy. Cookie dough chunks were good and they had a good number of them in the serving I got. (Sometimes you get scoops of cookie dough ice cream with 1-2 pieces of cookie dough and the rest is vanilla ice cream.) Parking options are the flat surface lot for the Farmer's Market or the structure for The Grove. If you do the latter, make sure to get validation at The Grove like Nordstrom's or Sephora. read more

I hadn't been to the Original Farmers Market since moving here and since it was hot out I stopped by Local Ice. It was the early afternoon on a Monday so the Market was pretty dead and I was the only one at the Local Ice counter. They had a bunch of options, ice cream, italian ice, shakes; I've always liked the idea of an old time-y soda fountain and Local Ice fit the bill in a lot of ways. I'm not sure when most of these premium ice cream places let you get 2 flavor choices for one scoop, but I like it. Please keep doing it, especially when the scoops are pretty dang big. I wanted something lighter so I went with their Italian Ice, watermelon and pineapple. I thought the watermelon was ok, with a flavor like watermelon it's a toss up between being natural about it or have the flavor be in your face but packed with fake stuff. Local ice did a pretty good job, with natural stuff, it didn't taste fake or syrup but the watermelon was a little weak. The pineapple though was excellent, tasting like a fresh sliced pineapple that was flash frozen and then ground into a small mountain of sweet cold, deliciousness.
