I have been to awesome sushi twice and both times ordered lunch specials which makes eatting sushi more reasonable in my opinion. The staff are very friendly here and attentive. They have an wide choice of options to choose from which is always good. With their lunch special and happy hour menu they have less selection but that's fine with me. The sushi tastes fresh and yhe salad looks crisp which is always a great thing for me. I'm a major fan of cooked sushi so whenever I indulge in sushi it must be cooked. I would reccomend this place to friends and family looking for a good sushi spot. read more

We've been coming here for about a year, and it is by far one of the best sushi spots in the area -- far beyond most of what you'll find in the Long Beach / Signal Hill. The staff is awesome -- Nena alone makes this a place worth coming to -- and the sushi is consistently fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Even their happy hour menu (a must-do because the items are actually things you'd want to order and not the B-team rolls you get at most other spots) yields fresh, well-prepared sushi, which makes this an awesome spot for a mid-day bite. Amazing food, service and prices are decent. Have been many times and have taken several people there who now frequent them as well. They are usually quite busy so plan ahead. They are fast though and very friendly. The tables are placed kind of close so seating can be a bit tight. They have specials sometimes but I usually like the bento box. Always a fun time here and the sushi is bomb! The servers take the time to make you feel welcome and will take shots with you! Lol Two different tables who sat next to us had been going to this place for years and love it. They had both known the owners for years and had many positive compliments. Not only is the service great but the food is great too. Just a little pricier than what we pay for late happy hour at Ajitos (cant really beat $6-$8 hella big rolls). Nina is the best! I will be forever impressed with her saki bomb skills. She brings the party to Awesome Sushi! I've yet to discover another sushi restaurant that includes banana peppers inside their specialty rolls. I don't know why because it is probably the best invention ever! I love Awesome Sushi and consider it my go-to spot when I'm in the mood for this type of cuisine. It doesn't hurt that they have a nice Yelp discount available. read more

I usually bring my lunch to work but I've been lazy to actually go to the grocery store... I wanted somehting healthy so I saw this place near my work.. SUSHI LUNCH SPECIAL! The lunch special comes with your 2 choices of 4 offerings: 4 cuts of sushi, 4 cuts of sashimi, 2 hand rolls, or 1 cut roll. I got the hand rolls (spicy yellowtail and baked salmon) and the cut roll (two kings - cali roll with baked salmon). It comes with miso soup and a salad (salad if you dine in). Everything was yummy. Loved the cut roll, and the hand rolls. Basked scallops was yummy with the mayo, and the spicy yellowtail was fresh. The only thing i would say is that the nori is kind of hard to chew. Other than that.... for $7-$8, I consider that a great deal! I even went the next day and got me the same thing (except I tried the Lovely roll as my cut roll - cali roll with shrimp tempura) Service was extremely nice. As I waited for my to go order the first day, all of the staff welcomed me, and a waitress offered me a glass of water while waiting. The second day, they already remembered me haha. They are very welcoming. The restaurant itself is very cool and hip for a sushi restaurant, which bright walls and funky yet traditional Japanese artwork. When you look around you can tell they are big on deals and specials, like 20% entire order on Sundays, Happy Hours, etc. Grab one of their brochures by the cashier... they have a coupon for 20% your entire order. Overall, a good place for sushi (especially lunch) and deals with a very accomodating staff! Awesome! read more

We went to awesome sushi for happy hour. The restaurant is very small so it was probably good that we arrived early. They have a lot of happy hour specials including pitchers, sake and bottle beer. They have quite a few vegetarian options on their happy hour menu which I was very excited about (Sushi studio never has any of their veggie rolls on their happy hour specials). Their veggie rolls were similar to the ones we get at sushi studio but on the smaller side. I really wanted to love awesome sushi but I still think Sushi Studio is my favorite. Nevertheless, I will probably go back for their happy hour because I love the great deals. read more

I Always have great sushi here. Even though it's always packed we were lucky to get seated right away this time. Our waitress BB was great. Attentive and pleasant unlike the waitress we usually get. Can't remember her name but she has short hair and is pretty loud and obnoxious which might be alright for some I suppose. The chefs are personable and create killer sushi. This place is okay. I loved the service here. There wasn't a wait, which was great. The sushi wasn't the freshest. I ordered 3 rolls and the portions of fish in the sushi was lacking. They do have one of the best happy hour deals i've seen at any sushi place. 1 dollar for each piece of sushi or 50 % off the cut rolls. Not bad at all.... I'd come here if i was in the area, but i wouldn't make a special trip. Decent sushi for cheap prices at happy hour. Go here for happy hour, otherwise, i don't think it's worth it. read more

We went here for HH. There were ample amount of parking. The decor was cute. Nothing standing out, but cute. The restroom was cute as well, although there was a pungent smell leaking from the kitchen area, yes when I say leaking, I mean a sewage odor. So we sat and began to order the entire menu, well it seems like it! haha so we ordered: Show girl 11.95 (1) (okay) Shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese, pickle jalapeno topped with fresh mango, soy paper then tempura and finish with spicy sauce... Crunch roll 4.50 (1) for HH (yum for the price) Shrimp tempura with asparagus topped with tempura flake and sweet eel sauce... Typhoon 11.95 (not so good) Fried calamari, prickle jalapeno topped with mango, spicy mayo, eel sauce and yuzu tobikko... Cheese cake Tempura 5.95 (okay) albacore-$1 a piece for HH (3) YUMMY! Seaweed salad-$1.50 for HH (YUM) spicy kick Awesome Sushi Roll (2 rolls) YUM! for HH It was half off I'm guessing 5? Kirin Pitcher 8.95- refreshing (wish it was on HH) Overall experience was great! The staff were really nice and helpful. I would go again, but only for the HH menu. All of the other rolls weren't as good for it's price. Button and I loved the AWESOME sushi roll and the albacore! I wasn't expecting to spend so much, so stay away from the regular menu. haha BTW the chef/manager was really nice, he gave us two extra dishes that were not on the menu, it was an appetizer dish.
