    Lunch Specials
    James A.

Stopped by this Japanese restaurant for the first time to try their lunch specials: it was really good with great value, especially if one focuses on the lunch specials around teriyaki flavors. Located in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach, Bamboo Teri House recently celebrated 41 years in business at this location. My wife read on social media that they recently experienced some vandalism at their storefront, so decided to show local support by dining in on a weekday with my wife and her mom. It is located in a small, unnamed strip mall, so has shared surface parking that we took advantage of. The front door had been temporarily fixed with plywood after the vandalism. The set-up is that of a fast casual diner counter restaurant, where you place and pay for your order first, and then the food is brought to you. It's a pretty big menu, which for me is not a good thing for a Japanese Restaurant. We found an empty table, and waited after we ordered. They have a self-serve soda machine ($3.25 for 16oz soda) with small water cups for use, and the tables are already prefilled with the necessities (napkins, disposable chopsticks, soy sauce). One interesting thing is that they do have Sapporo on draft, and some good weekday happy hour specials. It was fairly busy, but the food came out in a reasonable time. All the diners in our party were happy. We got items from different parts of the menu, and shared all of it, family-style. Lunch Special C ($12.50) - Chicken Teriyaki, California Roll, Karaage, steamed rice & Pan fried noodles. Plenty of food for sure, and the chicken teriyaki on the bed of rice was good. The Karaage on the noodles and the california roll were OK. 3 Item Combo ($18.50 + $1.50 upgrade for beef) - I guess this would be considered a teishoku. I really liked it. My three choices of entrees were sesame chicken (very crispy battered chicken but no sauce), angus beef teriyaki (a good choice for beef lovers, and the overflowing sauce was used for other dishes that didn't have as much), and mixed tempura (included two nice shrimp pieces, well made with panko and deep fried, along with some vegetables and a light dipping sauce...mainly used this sauce with the chicken). The noodles were OK. Yakitori Bowl ($11.50) - two chicken thigh skewers over a bed of rice and noodles and some mixed vegetables. It had grill marks so not sure if they have an open flame grill back there. It was well made with well portioned chicken thigh pieces, cooked really well. Would be an easy, filling lunch if in the mood for chicken. Reminded me of Yoshinoya, except quite a bit better. There was no place to self-bus, so assuming an employee would bus and clean the table, ready for the next guest. The restaurant was well staffed, so glad that they had plenty of foot traffic. My wife and her mom really liked this restaurant, and we will come again when back in the neighborhood.

    $16 Dinner Special after 5pm

Dined in and all the staff were friendly and super attentive! We ordered the $16 dinner special it's available after 5pm and it was plenty of food. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. Cozy restaurant, great local gem!

I don't think I've ever actually had a katsu Don before and by all the reviews I had to try it! Seeing it was egg with onion over rice with chicken reminded me of a dish my mom would make, not quite like this but very similar. This was really good and tasty! Good portion as I could've finish it all but leftovers are great! Chicken was nice and tender too. Service was friendly and efficient and several people dining inside too which is always a great sign! Can't wait to go back and try more things from their very extensive menu options!

Looks like a small place from the outside, but there's tons of seating inside. Definitely a spot to bring the family or if you want a quick bite or if you want to catch up with a friend. They have yummy drinks to choose from, they have the sodas and glass bottles that are so delicious, great food options even sushi is good! Service was amazing. We could not have been happier. The quality of the food was so good.

I feel bad I haven't written a review to one of my favorite Japanese food experiences for the last two decades! Tried this place when I was only 16 (now 37), and fell in love with the delicious food and stellar customer service from every employee that has ever worked there. Since I've been here through the years, every employee I've interacted with has always provided outstanding customer service, always creating a welcoming environment for all guests. I really enjoy a lot of items on their menu. Highly recommend their Mixed Tempura, Sukiyaki Bowl and Super Bowl or even the Mini Bowl menu items. They always give you a decent amount of protein to go with your carbs! Not sure or maybe picky? Just grab their 3 item combo and taste a little of their main items. Overall, love this little hole in the wall spot and will keep on coming back whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

    The missus lunch

Bamboo Teri House is a winner. When in Long Beach we like to stop here for a quick lunch.. they have great lunch specials.. the lovely missus tells me this was her favorite place during her college and medical career days. She has her Teri chicken and noodles with vegetable tempura and a salad... my tasty meal consisted of chicken Teri on a bed of white rice, a couple slices of CA roll and chicken on a stick over noodles. It was yummy and very friendly service. There will be no hesitation if the missus chooses Bamboo Teri House.

You get welcomed as you walk in and we got seated and first time being here very very friendly, . &&&& It's sooo good and flavorful & soft ... My mom loved the Tempura . Very crispy . We loved it here. Great service!!!!

Bamboo Teri House has been serving the Long Beach community for over forty years and it's something that we need to continue to support! While they do have sushi rolls that you could sample at a discount for happy hour before 5pm, it's the teriyaki and Japanese Curry that I crave from here. For a little over $30 on a Tuesday, I was able to get (1) a "Funtastic Tempura Bowl" ($12.60) for shrimp/vegetable tempura, teriyaki chicken, rice, and noodles, (2) a teriyaki chicken bowl ($12.50), and (3) a plate of vegetable tempura with six pieces ($6). This was easily enough for my wife and I, and we felt that it was a great value. I intend to take my coworkers here with me on weekday happy hour before 5pm for some appetizers and $14 Sapporo pitchers. Overall, I think they have pretty filling rice bowls, and I hope that this place stands for another forty years; however, that will depend on the community continuing to support it!

Came here for the second time now. Looking at my first review I thought maybe it's better this time. Well it was ok. Wish it was better but I was dissatisfied with my roll. I guess I won't order rolls here.

Was visiting niece in hospital and her favorite food is a crunchy roll. Looked up some places near hospital this one popped up and it was delicious. Roll was good size I also ordered a beef bowl best one I have tried yet. Place has a good happy hour. Inside it's spacious plenty of seating. Service is great will def be coming back when I'm in the area.

I went to Bamboo Teri House yesterday after getting my nails done next door and decided to grab something quick to eat. I ordered the two-combo plate with noodles and salad, and went with the chicken katsu and ginger chicken. The food was pretty good. Nothing super fancy or over-the-top, but definitely a solid meal for a decent price. The place was actually pretty packed when I went, which is usually a good sign. I ordered to go, so I can't speak much about the full dine-in service. But the employees at the register were very helpful and really nice, especially when making recommendations. One thing to know is parking is not great. There's very limited parking in that area, so you may have to circle a bit or park nearby. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a good, casual meal that won't break the bank. Flavor Profile (for reference): Umami-forward (savory, salty depth) Acidic or bright (tangy + sour) Pungent & intense (spicy + bitter notes) Drink Preference (for reference): Bitter-forward cocktails Balanced acidity Light sweetness only, not overly sugary

I thought it wasn't a super big serving so if I didn't like it, it wouldn't be a serious deal and he'd likely finish it if I didn't. The order was placed and a bit later, it was delivered. I opened the packaging for the roll, sprinkled some soy sauce on it (I know now you're supposed to dip it in the sauce, but I didn't know) and took a tentative bite. Man. That's the only thing that separated the finish, aside from that, the fish was fresh. For sushi we did, salmon belly, blue fin tuna, and yellow tail belly. Def enjoyed these three pieces. (i think from the ponzu, i LOVE PONZU)! every bite was BURSTING WITH FLAVOR :') incredible combinations. chef's kiss. parking is on the street, so it CAN be tricky to find a spot... but the area is lovely to walk through, especially at night! we were told the meters aren't active after 7pm and parked in a 25 minute loading zone spot with no problems at all.

I did not come prepared for a chilly night. We were supposed to just have coffee and go for a walk, but we needed a warm place, so we stumbled upon this place. It's actually pretty good. We sat at the counter/bar. The servers were nice. What we got: Salmon/tuna poke bowl: quite yummy. A mixture of both salmon and tuna in a great poke sauce over a bed of rice and salad. Salmon skin salad: if you like salmon skin, this is yummy. A perfect crunch seasoned really well to complement the bed of greens. Furikake fries: thinly cut potato's with furikake seasoning paired with a sweet mustard dipping sauce. I would have enjoyed more Furikake on the fries, but that's just me. This place has real wasabi if you ask for it instead of the watered down stuff you usually get. It's actually pretty good! Overall great food and great service. I'd come back for sure!
