    Chef's Sushi Box Take-Out
    Emily L.

I'd give this place a little more than 4 stars! I've only had takeout but the interior looks spacious and modern. 4/5 - Chef's box, definitely reminds me of a Sugarfish dupe. Everything in here was decent, nothing mind blowing. I'd order again if I want a variety. 4/5 - Sosoguud Roll. This was okay. I do appreciate the sauce on the side. 5/5 - Tuna crispy rice. Has got to be some of the best in the area, this is a must order! Even when I got it takeout it was still good and crispy. Definitely will order this again. I'd definitely like to dine-in sometime and try their other items!

Sosogu is a Japanese sushi and BBQ spot that's located in LB Exchange near the Hangar in Long Beach. It's down the street from the LB Airport and is in a strip mall that's loaded with good eats. I came to sosogu a few times during their grand opening; however, it came back to my radar because of their all you can eat menu offerings. We went with their middle tier AYCE menu for $59 (niku set), which featured nigiri sushi (tuna, spicy tuna crispy rice, salmon, and albacore), select sushi rolls, and a few meat options (notably filet mignon, beef bacon, short rib, pork belly, and chicken). A few sides/appetizers were also offered and served, upon request. Of these, we got kimchi, spicy cucumber, edamame, and some veggies. For $60 per person, I definitely got my fill; however, I can't say that it's a favorite AYCE spot. The beef bacon and short rib were highlights of the "niku set". Off the AYCE menu, I also think that their cocktails featuring japanese whisky are great. For me to upgrade to four or five stars (and to choose to come here over other AYCE options), there are a few things that could have been better. First, I think their nigiri has far too much rice and it was very vinegar forward. Second, the meats aren't seasoned, so there needs to be more options for seasoning, flavor, and sauce. Third, service was ok; however, if they're strictly enforcing a 90-minute time limit for their AYCE set, then I would have liked them to come around more often. Next, the griling surface on their infrared tabletop grill is small, particularly if you have a group more more then 3 persons. Lastly, though I can honestly say that I got my fill, the meat selections were just ok for me. I didn't feel that their premium wagyu AYCE offerings enticed me. My main reason for coming back would not be for their AYCE offerings or their sushi. I would come back if they had a happy hour menu and I'd come back for some of their Japanese whisky cocktails and flights.

ONE star minuses due to an extra charge that I just saw. I only ordered 1 tempura mix and a tempura shrimp. They charged an extra $15 plus $20. It should have been either or Brenda M was terrific. She was patient with us. This was our first time at this establishment. The food was good. The drinks were delicious. We sat outside. Glad we did because it felt a bit smoky when we went inside to the restrooms. The outside is clean and restrooms and restaurant is clean. We were celebrating my dad's happy heavenly 70th (rest his soul) birthday. The restaurant was so awesome. They celebrated with us with a soju shot. Such a nice touch. What we ordered 5 Sunomono Margarita 1 Tempura Mix $15 3 Lychee Pear Martini 1 Rising Sun 6 Toki-0 Old Fashioned 1 Tempura Mix $15 1 order of Just Shrimp Tempura $20 1 Yuzu Pineapple Express 1 Green Geisha 1 King Salmon Cut Roll $11

Oh my, the food was quite delightful. I can go back in a heartbeat. Iyna, our waitress, was super sweet and very attentive. Wish I had ordered more, but I was pressed for time. Really nice layout.

I'm sure many ppl made the same pun already but... omg this place was SOSOGUUUUD!!!! First time there and I can't wait to go back and try other things! Here are the cocktails we ordered: - Rising Sun 5/5 I like sweet cocktails in general, but also not too sweet either. That one had the perfect balance for me - Chai Tea Old Fashioned 4/5 you can't really taste the chai tea but overall, a solid cocktail. It's strong, I'd recommend it to Old Fashioned lovers - Martini 3/5 nothing against it, just personal preference. I'm not too much into Martinis myself As for food: - Spicy edamame 5/5 oh that one has a little kick but so worth it - Toro crispy rice 5/5 tasty but it only came with 4 small pieces - Premier set for 2 with yuzu butter shrimp, filet mignon medallions, short ribs, spicy pork, pork belly, everything was yummy! Also loved the sides: cabbage salad, crispy tofu, spicy cucumbers (that one in particular was delicious!!!), garlic noodles and shoyu clear soup (my friends thought it was too mushroomy but I liked it). - Yuzu Cheesecake 4/5 I love Yuzu so I really wanted to try that cheesecake. It was good but nothing out of the ordinary, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it Service was impeccable, loved their vibey playlist (we tried Shazaming some of the soundtracks lol) and we came here on a Saturday at 530-6pm without a reservation. We got sat right away! Parking was also easy to find at that time.

Parking is in a shared lot, located near the Hangar. Often times there is a mini market just outside so the parking spots are full in the front. This restaurant is clean and very spacious. They have an outdoor patio and interior is very modern. You have a choice to choose to eat sushi, grilled bbq, or both. If you choose to eat only sushi, there is a specific table to dine on. Our server was very friendly and gave us a breakdown of how the menu works. We got the wagyu platter. They also allowed us to swap a protein for something similar. For about $40, it came with a bowl of rice, cabbage salad, soup, and about 3 slices of each protein. They have fire suppression on each of the grilling tables which i thought was great because in case of an emergency, it can put it out quickly. The grill isnt used with flames, rather a heating bulb. It grilled our meat fast and very limited smoke. It also cooked the meat more evenly. This is definitely a place that can be eaten, enjoyed, and finished within a Lunch break for work. Im so glad I dont work nearby because id go broke! We will be back.

3.5 stars rounded up. Great deals especially as they seem to be trying to encourage diners to come in. The sushi selection isn't really traditional but what I had was tasty. I'd want to come try their bbq options as well.

From the ambiance to the service, drinks and tasty food -- this restaurant makes for a great, romantic date spot that will impress! Even on a rainy day, this restaurant was packed. Everyone was so nice and really made our experience so fun and enjoyable! The quality of the dishes really stood out from the signature rolls to the Japanese bbq cuts. We tried the Filet Mignon Tataki, Tempura Lobster roll, Japanese bbq cuts- Beef Tongue, Waygu Hanger Steak and the Wagyu Ribeye Cap! The Japanese bbq cuts were grilled on a flame that gave it its signature char. All were delicious. The Tempura Lobster roll had large chunks of lobster over deep fried in tempura over crab rolls (not imitation crab) which I loved! All of our choices were delicious. The standout was definitely the Filet Mignon Tataki which was cooked perfectly and paired with a fried onion topping and ponzu sauce. My husband loved the ribeye cap and I loved the hangar steak, but the tongue also hit the spot, too. I definitely can't wait to come back to try some of their other sushi and appetizers like the garlic noodles, chicken wings and their scallops carpaccio and mandarin appetizer. The cocktails were unique! I loved the Green Geisha tasted great and for a strong kick, the Chai Tea Manhattan was a fun pick. It had a cayenne kick which I didn't expect but enjoyed. I talked to the manager and the concept of this cocktail was meant to embrace the fall vibes and transport you to sitting around a camp fire with friends and family. Thank you to the manager on site, David, our hostess Katie, and our servers Kayanna and Brenda whose energy were so vibrant! They had great recommendations and honestly had such good vibes which makes a huge difference in your dining experience. Their vibes really set the tone for our experience. Located in the Long Beach Exchange, Sosogu has a beautiful indoor and outdoor area. Parking was easy as there is a large parking lot. Definitely check this restaurant out!!

Went for early dinner for our anniversary. Parking was busy and we went to the lot by the old OSH. It's busy in their lot from the three fitness studios around Sosogu. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes before we were sat. Restaurant was not busy, about 40% occupied. This restaurant has teppanyaki service so they had seating with barbecue grills on it. The host chose to seat us at a table. To note, if you are sat against the wall, there is hardly any leg space as the table is attached to the floor. Our server was super nice and as she took our ordered, she offered to start us off with the house sake for our anniversary. We started with the Nagoya Wings and the Scallop carpaccio and my husband had a beer and myself the Yuzu Pineapple express. My cocktail was on the sweet side and tasted like candy. The chicken came perfectly fried and juicy and the Jidori sauce was delicious. The carpaccio -mandarin slices decorating thenplate looked sad and the amount of scallop slices hardly amounted to even half a scallop. Also maybe it was a bad season for scallops because if not for the mandarins and the vinaigrette, the carpaccio was flavourless. As I am posting these and looking at our photos, we also ordered the Spicy Cucumber. I did not remember we ordered it which speaks to the flavour or lack thereof of this appetizer. We went ahead and ordered the Premier Sashimi Set. We were craving for proper sushi and we were hoping we got it. The carpaccio should've indicated what was coming but decided that maybe it was just that one dish that didn't make the cut. The Sashimi Set was delivered to a the table by another person (not our server) and couldn't even remember and get the fish straight. The Hokkaido scallop on this set was SO fishy tasting I made my husband eat the rest. The rest of the fish were only delicious when dipped in their "yummu ponzu" sauce. The sauce added flavour and masked the old fish taste. Toro and Hamachi which are usually rich (toro) and sweet (hamachi) were just ok. I noticed most people ordered cooked food st this place so maybe they are known for that versus the sushi. I was put off from sushi for awhile after this and for what we paid for, I'll stick to proper Japanese in Costa Mesa and Torrance.

Sosogu has become a once-in-a-while favorite and while we don't go often we ALWAYS have a great time. The servers are charming and engaging, the food quality is awesome and fresh and you never leave hungry. The silky lit semi smokey atmosphere from the grilling coupled with the calm chatter of other patrons sells a steakhouse vibe with a clean Japanese inspired aesthetic. Fresh sushi offerings coupled with steak and other meats you can grill yourself to your liking? ALWAYS sign me up.

My coworker and I came here for lunch since the Hangar was packed and we decided to try this new spot because we both love sushi. We both ordered the Soso Guud since we were pretty hungry. Here's what it came with: Edamame - simple, steamed and lightly salted. Bluefin tuna sashimi - tasty, especially with the ponzu sauce. Albacore & Salmon nigiri - not great. The fish was tough and grisly, the rice fell apart as soon as I picked it up and the albacore had a slight fishy smell that made me question its freshness. Hamachi & Seabream nigiri - definitely better than the albacore and salmon but the rice consistency was still an issue. Toro hand roll & Blue crab hand roll - loved both of these. They were flavorful and delicious. Service from the kitchen was extremely slow, which was surprising since we only ordered sushi and there were just two other tables with customers at the time. That said, our server was wonderful and apologetic about the long wait. Overall, this place is a 2-star spot for me. I wouldn't come back for sushi but I'd consider returning just for the hand rolls.

Great spot! Ordered the crispy rice, Hokkaido scallops, soso guud, sake flight, shiso fine, and a couple beers. Soso guud and the Hokkaido came out at a good pace, rice is well seasoned and the fish is fresh and went very well with the sake flight. With my beers the crispy rice was great, I got it with the caviar per the waitress's recommendation and it was spot on. Lastly I finished off my dinner with the shiso fine and it was a great way to end the work day. Service was great, Simone was attentive but not overwhelming, I was able to take a couple work calls and get work done while still feeling like she was checking on me and made she I was okay--whole reason I kept ordering more. If you want a nice modern spot for date night, dinner with clients (which I seen a lot of), or do what I did and have a solo dinner, this is a great spot.

If you can't decide between BBQ and sushi, then this is the place for you! Sosogu is serving up fresh sushi and tender plates of Japanese BBQ. We started off with their Nagoya style wings which were crispy and sweet, along with some edamame. Then we got their beef tongue and ribeye, along with their sosogud sushi set. The meat plates were a bit small, so I recommended getting 3-4 plates to share between two people, or get one of their sets. Their cocktail, beer, and drink list have great variety to pair with your meal, and overall it was a delicious time!

It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.

We had a reservation for six and the hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our server, Nate, was fantastic. He knew the menu and answered all of our questions. He even explained how some of the drinks were made. Later we found out he was actually one of the bartenders helping out as a server for the night. Which made sense considering how well he knew how the drinks were made. He was attentive and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. One thing that made him stand out was, he actually conversed with us rather than just asking if we needed anything and then leaving. The Old Fashioned was one of the smoothest and best I've probably ever had. My nephew ordered the Ube Painkiller after Nate described how it was made. I had a sip, and the ube flavor really came through without overpowering the drink and it was perfectly matched with the dark rum, which Nate said came from the Caribbean. The Brussels sprouts had a nice mix of tender and crispy pieces that gave additional texture. The calamari was tender and the pesto style sauce paired real good with it. The Thai curry sea bass was flavorful, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. The cioppino had a rich shellfish flavor in the broth and I appreciated that the tomato base didn't have such an acidic taste. We also shared the tomahawk, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had a sprinkle of coarse salt that really brought out the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was excellent, but Nate's service really made our night special, making us feel right at home.

The hostess was quite sweet when we walked in. As we had our little fur baby with us, we were seated at one of the tables on the patio. It was still early and that in-between time so it was pretty quiet. A large party was set up next to us. Melinda took care of us and she was the sweetest. Happy hour was happening which we took advantage of. It was 4.00 off appetizer, 2.00 off draft wine and beer. Also, they made sure that our little pup was well taken care of as well. Food wise, an order of the poke wrap. Nice chunks of ahi with a scoop of rice, lettuce, avocado and wasabi sauce. It was good but a little messy. As it would be with all of the lettuce wraps. The steamed mussels which is a must. The broth was delicious and served with two nice thick slices of toasted bread. Decent size mussels cooked deliciously in the broth. A must try. Lastly the calamari which was tossed with jalapeños. Both deep fried and quite tasty. Nice crunch to it but not overly cooked. That was also served with two dipping sauce. Everything was delicious. Towards the end of the meal, Melinda noticed that a bug was in my wine which she was very sweet about and made sure to take care of it. The simple little gesture was greatly appreciative. The whole experience was excellent. Everyone was the sweetest and friendliest. Will definitely be back.

The ambiance of the wooden tables and the total feel was cozy and welcoming. Once seated at the bar, we were greeted immediately by a very awesome Mixologist/Bartender! Amazing banter A+++++ Service The drinks : My Whiskey Sour was delicious, it had the perfect balance of sweet to sour notes. We also had the old fashion yes. May I have another, soo good. And, this place has a couple games to play and on some nights entertainment, which is pretty cool but on this night I only partake playing some pool. Overall, the drinks were crafted wonderfully, and I would recommend this lovely joint!

THE BLIND DONKEY IS NOT SAFE FOR TRANS PEOPLE…read more Last night (6/28) between 10-11pm, my trans boyfriend was followed into the men's bathroom by a security guard who started aggressively yelling at them for using the "wrong" bathroom. The security guard asked extremely inappropriate questions like "aren't you a lady?" and "what bathroom do you usually use?". Anytime my boyfriend responded, he yelled more and threatened to kick him out. This was a deeply upsetting situation. We were there for a friend's birthday and we left immediately after the incident. We definitely will NOT be returning to the Blind Donkey. We also suggest our queer and trans friends and community avoid this place too! The Blind Donkey needs to do better with educating and welcoming people of all genders. For good karaoke in a queer & trans friendly place, we recommend Silver Fox!
