I am a sushi fan, I like to try sushi all over. I found this restaurant in Yelp. I read these reviews some said good and some said worst ever. Should I try this place?? Last Saturday, my friends' family came over from Santa Babara, they visited us for 2 nights, they asked us to bring them for a dinner that night. We decided to go for the sushi. As i knew this place from Yelp, and it 's close to my house. We agreed to try this place see how it is. We walked in, very impressed, they yelled some word to us..something "Chai..ma See" sound like that..So loud, scared my kid, but we all laughed. A server brought us to the table, inside, it's small but nice atmosphere, I saw small patio outside as well. We ordered lot of food, we tried their food..Oh Not bad...It's GOOD. I felt something different. It's not the real Japanese food, I asked the chef, he told me, it 's the Japanese fusion mixed with the Thai spices, and a bit Italian ingredients. So that's why it 's different and I think people who stick with the original or regular sushi, they might don't like. I don't know.. but for us, we all love Awesome Roll, Earthquake, Fire Ant, Chef Signature..the one salmon sashimi with the green sauce, Seafood Salad, my kid loved Crunchy Roll..he told me he love it SO MUCHH. We almost done with the dinner, our server came by and offered us the Cheesecake Tempura for our dessert after meal..but we are full already..my kid said he wanted it, so we ordered and tried it..I thought it's strange but it's GREAT. Now we're done, I was more happier when checked bill coz I printed the coupon from their web site, I got 30% off from the whole meal. HaHa lol. I really liked the restaurant , I'm a sushi lover and I thought the food there was bomb & the place was very friendly and energetic . they had very good prices and fresh fish . I loved the appetizer with the softshell crab it was good priced with the interesting mango salsa . I especially enjoyed the salmon carpaccio . It was very tasty (: It was my favorite. It wasnt stingy either , they put caviar over it with that special sauce . The slot machine roll was interesting . It was shrimp tempura with avocado inside and topped with eel , and i love shrimp tempera and eel . The sweet sauce compliments it well. 747 roll was yummy . the albacore and avocado inside with tuna on top went well together . together with the sweet and sour sauce had a very delightful smell . the last one from the vegitarian menu (which is great for the non-meat lovers) is the yellow monster . with tempura carot and pumpkin topped with fresh mango , it doesnt sound like it would go together but it came out very good. for desert the tempura icecream , ofcourse who doesnt love one of those ? Bummed. It's NYE and wanted to treat myself to some sushi. I asked around the office today and this place came up multiple times. So, I decided to order though Postmates so I wouldn't have to deal with parking when I got back. I rarely use apps for food delivery.. this is why... I ordered 2 rolls totaling $46 and some change ($6-cash-for the driver) $52 -ish in all. (That's how bad parking is where I'm at, I admit I'm lazy too today) I ordered a "Vampire Roll" and "I feel so lucky roll". Oh, the irony because that's the roll that was completely wrong. The "Vampire Roll" was decent but I didn't finish it. The sauce was weird, tbh. I didn't even touch the other roll. I'm starving and wish I got a refund from the restaurant. Postmates offered me a credit (non cash value) for half. Happy New Year to me! Haha. Like I said, I never use apps and felt for the price.. not at all worth it. My main complaint is that I was very clear on my order and didn't get what I paid for. If the food wasn't good, thats Ok. At least I paid for what I ordered. I kind of feel cheated. read more

Not Impress! I read some good and bad reviews on Yelp and decided to give this place a benefit of a doubt. So I took my date here on a Friday night around 8pm and the place wasn't busy. There was one group of people at a table and a couple at a bar. I have to agreed with Melissa M. on the fake reviews. First, if you want to take your date to see the sunset, go to the beach. You can't see the sunset here (Nikki N.) unless you have x-ray vision to see through a kitchen wall. Waitress was friendly, I'll give you that, but try to concentrate on giving me some sort of service, instead of trying to be my friend. I mean, the place wasn't busy and yet we have to wait awhile before you can take our orders and having them served to us. You don't even need to cook the fish! I've been going to Awesome for a while now. After reading some of the other reviews I think they are mostly spot-on. Nina and the staff are awesome, even if they indulge occasionally! The patio is a bit useless due to the airport being next door, but the interior is clean, tidy and compact like a sushi place should be. My number one joy is their vegetarian options, the Yellow Monster roll top among them! The food is really good, prices are reasonable (especially if you happen by during happy hour or their upcoming anniversary event). Overall I'm really glad they are in the neighborhood with 2 other more traditional sushi places and they seem to be doing great! Highly recommended, great for smaller parties of 8 or less as it is a bit small. read more

What can I say that the name of this place doesn't already state. Awesome sushi, awesome rolls, and the best service I've had at a sushi place hands down! Located on the corner of Clark and willow next to the smog check, this place has quality fish and accommodates all kinds of diets. Going low carb? I recommend the velvet voice (new favorite) and the tuna sashimi (generous cuts). The happy hour is awesome, and the price is moderate considering the food you get. The place is kinda small but is a world away when you step in. Wow!!! It was awesome like the name of the restaurant. This is our first experience in this restaurant and I tell you what!!! Everything that we order was awesome. I ordered Fire ant roll , it was very nice decoration like a cute animal with the magnificent taste. My girl friend ordered pompano , toro (fatty tuna) and yellow tail believe me!! they all fresh . I have been a sushi eater my entire life. I like it all...sashimi, sushi, hand rolls, cut rolls, tempura and even oysters. I have lived in Long Beach and used to be a patron of Sushi Studio until it burnt down. Luckly, near my place of business opened Awesome Sushi on Clark and Willow. If you are looking for excellent sushi you need to try this restaurant. I eat here at least once a week and have never been disappointed. I absolutely love this place. I go there a lot with my friends. The food is awesome and service is great. They also have the best happy hour menu. My favorite dishes are the Romeo & Juliet and Crunch Roll. The Salmon skin salad is pretty good also. As for dessert, I really recommend the Fried Banana Tempura. Very delicious. The service is excellent. The waiters/waitresses really take good care of you. They are always around whenever you need them; my drink was always full. Came here out of the blue, the food was quite good. Fish was fresh, specials were unique. Our only disappointment was the setting. This place backs up to the runway at the Long Beach airport, we were kind of hoping to have a view of the planes landing. Maybe we are the only ones to think this, but given the location it seems they would want to use the landing planes as part of the ambiance. This is a great place to visit after a drive or flight from NorCal. I have been coming here since their hands opening a few years ago. Nena is a great host and owner, Tom is one of my fave sushi chef along with everyone else, and the waitresses are quick and friendly.
