Came here for lunch, just in time for happy hour. Loved every bite and every sip! Can't beat the prices or quality!

5/5 for service + food & price. Everything was great. Small little hidden place in Spring Valley CDO. The server was polite and helpful. Our food was brought out relatively quick during dinner hours. The price of the food was not pricey. Plenty of parking with limited seating inside. Everything tasted fresh and was great. Would definitely recommend! Cant wait to be back.

Got the highly reviewed Spring Valley roll and cucumber salad. Dressing on the cucumber salad was too heavy, and the roll was too heavy on the spice that it masked any flavor of the fish. The albacore on the top was dried out, the texture tough like jerky. The rice was dry and overworked and you could feel the texture of every grain. Restaurant was very cluttered, tables sticky. Service was good as they were very attentive. Just not impressed by the food.

So I was waiting until I actually dined in and had the full experience to write a full review but now that I've moved out of the area, I'm afraid I won't get that chance now even though this place was bookmarked for me to try for the longest even while I was in the neighborhood. So I ordered through GrubHub and I still think everything was delicious! They have a combination of Chinese foods and Japanese sushis. I ordered an Adam and Eve Roll which was good. The 2 main stars of the show were the scallop roll and the salt and pepper chicken wings! Okay where do I even start?! The scallop roll came from the basic rolls so I was expecting it to be pretty basic. No one told me they were going to put raw scallops omg it was sooo good and soft! Melted like butter in my mouth. Then the salt and pepper chicken wings might be up there on top wings in SD because not only do they load that thing with garlic but they also dice up tiny red bell peppers and omg what a game changer!

The Ayumi roll, nice and spicy!

Today I ordered the Ayumi roll, a scallop roll, both spicy, and some miso soup. These guys have the best sushi in this whole area, and their soups are better than anyone else's, they actually have something in the soup, a lot of something. It can't help but taste better because there are so much stuff in their soups. The service is always great, and you are greeted when you come in the door. Normally, it's nice and quiet, even when it's busy. I can't wait to come back for some of the best sushi you can find in the San Diego area.

This was a sleeper hit of a restaurant ... I live in Spring Valley, and asian food caters to the demographic #iykyk. I was a bit hesitant to try this place because I love chinese food and lately its just been hit or miss. Also, sushi/chinese can sometimes be not what you expect. ANYWAY, let me go back to my experience with Ayumi. Small cozy restaurant that has about 8-10 tables. Its apparent they do a lot of take out. It's in a small plaza but there is plenty of parking. You're greeted warmly when going inside, and there's an A-Frame in the front that tells you the daily special. The pictures here on yelp and google helped a lot in making my food decisions. I love my orange chicken not too much breading, and an even sauce to nugget ratio. Some of the other chinese restaurants in the immediate area are wayyyy too saucy or too breaded. I chose the Sweet & Pungent chicken, bc that sounded good ... boy it did not disappoint. It came out on a bed of crispy noodles and steamed broccoli. The pieces were evenly sauced and sticky the way I love it ... so I can only imagine the orange chicken, sweet and sour, and whatever else is fried will be decent. Definitely coming back just for this. My bf had the kung pao trio, and it was probably the most decent I've had in a while. The prices are reasonable for the area for the sushi, the chinese food, and even the beverages (some places be gouging for beer), and I'm going to be trying this place out for the lunch specials which is always a good combo of entree, appetizer, and drink. 5 stars for the chinese food, Can't wait to try the sushi next time.

Definitely recommend their popcorn green bean and yellowtail carpaccio. I wasn't a fan of their chicken wing I felt like there was lots of batter and not a lot of flavor. Salmon skin salad was good.

I've been wanting to try this place out since their opening and finally got a chance this weekend. It definitely did not disappoint. They serve Chinese and Japanese dishes although the only Chinese options we ordered was an appetizer and soups. The inside of the restaurant is fairly small but comfortable. We were seated right away and service was fairly fast. It's always nice when you're greeted with a smile and served delicious, fresh food. We were hungry and started out with some fried gyoza, wonton soup and hot and sour soup. We knew from the first bite, the rest of the food was going to be tasty. My hubby ordered "Leave it to the Chef" and I ordered "Ayumi Roll". Both were soooo good and we can't wait to try out the other ones. Plenty of parking and is easy to spot. The prices were reasonable and servings were plentiful.

We keep coming back. This time we ordered the Protein Roll, Las Vegas Roll, and California Roll, and the balance was perfect. The rice-to-filling ratio here is always spot on. We also got the salt and pepper boneless chicken (white meat), which was our second time ordering it. It was crispy, juicy, and tender. We paired it with the light fried rice on the side, it's just plain delicious. I like to add the toppings from the chicken and mix it with the fried rice.

Sushi dinner on a Sunday night, heck yeah! I was in the mood for sushi but not in the mood for the waitlists of Hillcrest, Mission Hills, North Park, etc. Plus I didn't want to drive far. This was a quick drive from our house and got great reviews, so why not! The dining room is moderate sized, about 6-8 tables, plus a bar with 3-4 seats at the counter, so you may still have to wait a little bit if they are super busy, but we got there before the rush and got right in. The menu is very diverse, but don't let it scare you, they do both Chinese food and Sushi with some asian fusion dishes as well. We stuck with the sushi but I definitely want to come back and try the Chinese food. The sushi was legit, quality and fresh ingredients and great flavor combos. We had 3 orders of rolls, a sake, and I had a glass of chardonnay. The wine is VERY reasonable here, $5.99 a glass! Those are happy hour prices ALL day long.. It's not a fancy glass of chard, but it paired perfectly with the sushi. Service was good, fast at first, slowed down a bit when they got busy but we never had to wait too long! The rolls were delicious, we had the Las Vegas roll, which was crunchy fried deliciousness, the jalapeño was on the top so if you wanted it less spicy you just took it off. I didn't think it was too spicy even with the topping. We also had the citrus and gold dust roll. The citrus roll was definitely zesty and spicy, for those who like spice! The gold dust roll was PERFECT, it was my favorite. It had a little crunch inside of it and it wasn't too spicy. Definitely will be reordering that one. All in all 5 stars here for the price, very affordable and delicious sushi!

    Sea Box
    Lien P.

It's really exciting when you find a sushi spot that offers sushi boxes with assorted rolls. The Sea Box at Ayumi met my expectations of my standard of a rolls only box! The main thing is that the filling of the rolls doesn't mostly contain imitation crab! This review only applies to the Sea Box because I haven't tried anything dishes from them but I'm eager now, to try their different menu items, especially the Chinese food. I ordered the box a day prior to be picked up at a certain time and when I got there, the box was ready and service was quick. Staff were friendly as well. I'd definitely come back for their assorted sushi boxes!

    Baked scallops
    Shan F.

This is a small restaurant filled with what looked like regular customers, all enjoying their meal... Always a good sign. I was greeted by friendly, polite staff and guided through their quite extensive menu. I ordered the "Leave It To The Chef," and the server thoughtfully asked if I was okay with spicy, which I am. That roll was really good. it had the perfect amount of spicy kick, nicely balanced with citrusy brightness and a touch of sweetness. Definitely a highlight. I also tried the baked scallops roll. It was okay, but it had a bit too much spicy imitation crab for my taste, so I ended up setting most of it aside. Will I be back? Yes. I'd love to try some of their Chinese dishes, which the other customers seemed to be thoroughly enjoying. I was there yesterday and am already considering going back today.

This is a long way of saying that I know I'm talking about when it comes to sushi, and konnichiwa has managed to get consistent. excellent praise from Me and those I've frequented this sushi stop with. I love it, and I would love to explain why it's one of my top three recommended sushi stops in all of San Diego County. First, the location is fun and the eclectic. It's fairly easy to find parking near downtown La Mesa; even if you have to walk a block or two, the price is more than worth it. While the restaurant can get busy, service is excellent, there are good indoor and outdoor accommodations, and the staff is efficient along with being friendly and helpful, so even on a busy day you won't have to wait too long. The menu selections are great, and they have only improved with time; for example, during my last visit, they had added more drinks to the menu, along with a special team menu that included a new selection of poke bowls, which were wonderful; the best I've had yet, extremely fresh, flavorful, and generous! Although the prices are on the higher end, the majority of it is reasonable, especially for the quality that you get. Overall, I cannot recommend konnichiwa enough!
