I swear, I'm such a basic betch sometimes. I always get the same thing every single time I order Thai. Vegetable green curry, medium spicy w/ brown rice. Every. Single. Time. With that being said, it's safe to assume that throughout my over two decades of eating vegetable green curry, I have quite the palette for this dish. I have literally been across the world and back, I have tried vegetable green curry on the other side of our planet, along the coast of many seas, and from countless hole in the wall restaurants all along the West Coast. (&Everybody knows holes in the wall have the best food.) This curry though, this curry was the bomb dot com. I will get into some deets in a second here, but lemme just say that I converted a staple Pad Thai eater to the Green Curry life. The bamboo shoots for this deliciousness are PERFECTION. Rectangular, long, firm and fibrous. They could be fresh, right out of the pandas paw, I'm not sure... but they definitely blow all other bamboo shoots I've had from curry out of the soup. The vegetable medley does not miss a beat, either. There's carrots & mushrooms, cut in different ways for texture variance. Honestly I don't remember the exact composition for the plant life in this symphony of sauce... it's almost like one of those nights out with your alcoholic best friend who just turned 21. Easy to get to location in Capitol Hill. The service was friendly and fast. The food was hot, delicious and spicy! We ordered the Pineapple fried rice at a spice level of 3, Pad Thai at spice level of 3, Coconut chicken at spice level of 2. The fried rice was the spiciest dish and the coconut chicken didn't have hardly any spice. The pad thai was very citrus-y and refreshing, unlike any other pad thai we ever had before. The signature cocktails are great! We had Twisted Thai Tea, Ginger Grass & Lemongrass Gimlet. All perfect! The chairs & tables are very solid wood. I used to live up the street from this place, and it was my first Thai restaurant ever. It was the reason that my husband and I started loving Thai. I was very disappointed in my pad Thai today. WAY too much sugar in the pad Thai sauce - it tasted like ketchup. That's not what I want in pad Thai - not just ketchup, sugar, and fish sauce. Pretty decent Thai place, but nothing too special. I ordered using the yelp app for pick up. I got a beef pad see ew, 5 star spicy. As soon as I got there, the staff was very friendly and told me to just take a seat since the order isn't ready yet (I was there early). The food was decent and it's a huge potion. I think it's good enough for two or one hungry person. I thought that the pad see ew as a whole was a bit bland. I just tasted heat and not really the actual pad see ew. The heat didn't overpower the dish, but it was actually spicy unlike some Thai places I've been too. 5 star is actually spicy here!!! I like it! The beef was good and tender. Food is consistent. Only place I will order pad thai... they know how to cook noodles. The sweet and sour chicken, pineapple fried rice, mussamun curry and tom kha soup are all staples. Satay is delicious, not as good with takeout... I always order peanut sauce to put on whatever, theirs is slightly spicy and doesn't just taste like peanut butter. They do pretty standard Thai dishes, but they do it pretty well. I have been here for lunch a couple times, and I have tried their green curry and pad kee mow. Both dishes were flavorful (but not too salty), with a pretty good ratio of sauce, meat, and veggies. In addition, the veggies were still nice and crisp; not soggy from the sauce. My only complaint was that I wanted a little more rice with my curry, and there was a touch too much noodles in the pad kee mow. Overall, both dishes were satisfying. I must also commend the service at Ayutthaya. Last week, I used a $15 for $30 groupon. Not only was our server very friendly, he was also extremely attentive to help us order as close to $30 as possible. None of that discrimination towards customers using discounts; I was very happy. As an aside, their drinks are quite strong. They are relatively pricey during lunch/dinner, but I would like to go back for Happy Hour sometime! read more

Just got take out here and was seriously disappointed. We came home and one dish (phud Thai) that we ordered was missing. The bathing Rama was described as "wok tossed" spinach - the spinach was raw. We called to complain and the person who answered was not very helpful, and when we returned (yes, we had to drive back to get the food that they left out) the bartender argued, didn't want to comp the dish that was left off and then didn't replace the dish that was poorly prepared. Super average place. My dish (red curry noodles) was yummy but the portions here are just tiny! We went during happy hour and I ordered off that menu so I should've expected for it to be a small amount but I thought it was just way too little. My boyfriend opted to order off the regular menu after we asked about regular dish sizes compared to happy hour dish sizes. Even his pad thai was a super small amount! There was also negligible amounts of meat in it. We ordered crab fried wontons as an appetizer. They were standard which is yummy! Normally the food is good, but I JUST got my delivery order and not only did they not include rice for my 12 dollar red curry*, the pad Thai I ordered is inedible. It is just watery noodles with a weird tomato flavor and the chicken I paid 2 dollars extra for isn't there. What the hell?! Okay. We just ordered from this place. I just got my food. We didn't get rice with one of my curries, and my fried rice seemed okay. I've been coming here as a "last resort" for Thai and I have to say after tonight I'm just gonna skip it from now on. Tonight I called in my go to order of Chicken Pad Thai and Garlic Chicken (the kind with chicken and veggies in a garlic sauce). Clarified twice I don't want the "crispy" version. Get home, crispy it is. SUPER SALTY crispy garlic chicken, no sauce, a useless side order of rice (that I paid for) and dry Pad Thai. Do yourself a favor and go to Jamjuree... I ordered green bean as appetizer, house curry dish, pad Thai, and roti most dishes are on a small dish and about to flow off when scooping it. The curry was more creamy than expected. Food portions were small - at first, looking at the menu I had thought to myself that this place was very reasonably priced (now I know that they make up for it with small portions). Larb gai salad was decent, although portion size given was about 1/2 cup of chicken total for $7.95 and a whole half head of cabbage. Really? It sure seemed like a lot of cabbage for such little chicken. Or maybe the chicken portion was just insulted by such a large portion of cabbage that the chicken portion even seemed smaller than it actually was! Tom kah was a little sweeter than I would have liked it - maybe i should have ordered 4 instead of 3 stars. Squash & corn fritters were misleading on the menu - it was advertised more like deep fried fritter cakes and showed up rather like soggy sweet potato fries. This is my favorite Thai place in Seattle. They have a GREAT happy hour menu. I mean you can come here and get loaded AND full for around $15 may be even less which makes this an ideal place to pregame before heading to a concert at Neumos. They're food is delicious - I've never gotten anything here I don't like, but I usually get their green curry or the special green curry. Both are delicious. They have a version on the happy hour menu that includes udon noodles in it, which I thought was a little weird, but tasty and got the fill you up job done for around $5. Their fresh rolls come with GREAT peanut sauce. It's always a downer when your peanut sauce comes and it's all weird or watery. Never here! Always tasty and the service is always great. 3.5 Stars Ayutthaya is kind of an institution on the Hill. It's been there forever while much has changed around it. We used to eat there periodically when we lived up on 12th, but it had been a few years. We had dinner here last Dec (I noted there was a Christmas tree in the dining room). The menu is very large, which can be a problem for indecisive people like me. We shared squash fries as an app, then I had the drunken noodles, and my boyfriend went with the fried rice. I wish I'd taken better notes cause nothing really stands out, but I think that says something anyways. I did write that both dishes were "good" and that 4 stars spiciness was "just right." I remember not being too impressed with the squash fries, expected something more interesting. I've never found anything at Ayutthaya to be mind blowing, but I'd probably eat here more often if I was still in the area. I can't remember if I've tried the Phad Thai here, but other reviews indicate it's the yucky ketchupy stuff that I abhor. The decor and ambiance is lacking, as noted in many other reviews. On this particular occasion we were also seated in an awkward corner and service was very slow. But you don't come to Ayutthaya for a fancy setting and impeccable service. You come for the decent Thai food. And I just may do it again someday. FYI -- The receipt includes a "tip table" on the bottom, which could be taken as helpful, amusing, and/or presumptuous, depending on your mood. read more
