Walking through cap hill and ran into this place! Wow so delicious. Humongous portions, fresh and tasty food. Ordered coconut curry, sweet and sour veggies and pad ki mao. All super super delicious. The service was on the slower side due to one cook, but that's okay. Servers were kind and did whatever they could to make us happy. I've been coming here for nearly 15 years, and hope I can keep coming for 15 more. The food is delicious - I especially love the Tom Yum soup with its rich broth and perfectly cooked veggies. The takeout I got from Ayutthaya Thai was pretty awful. I got Crab Delight for appetizer. It tasted like deep fried pastry filled with cream cheese. I couldn't taste any crab in it. For the main I ordered Tamarind Chicken. Each piece was mostly batter, very little chicken. It was overcooked and the sweet and sour sauce was not good. The entire dish had 3 cashews in it. I was so impressed with this small restaurant. We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night and were sat immediately. They only have 4 open tables in the restaurant due to COVID, but we managed to get one. We started with the fried vegetable rolls which were delicious! It only came with 4, so if you're really hungry get two orders. They were deliciously crisp and the sauce was perfect. I had the vegan curry with vegetables and it was delicious! The sauce was thick and peanuty and I ordered a side of rice which was perfect together. The portion size was fantastic, I even got to take some home. My boyfriend got the pineapple fried rice. He said it was really good and had the perfect spice level (2). I highly recommend this place as it's a delicious meal with plenty of dietary options and a wonderful staff! I ordered through DoorDash and got the beef salad and crab wontons. The salad was such a large portion and had a lot of sauce which was good. I love how flavorful and it wasn't too spicy (I ordered 3 stars). The crab wontons seemed to be made from real crab meat which was nice. I'll definitely be ordering their beef salad again. read more

FINALLY. I found a place that serves authentic Thai food! My friend and I were looking for Asian food, roaming around Capitol Hill & walked upon this little gem of a restaurant. We ordered pad Thai and Mussaman curry with a lovely order of Thai Iced Tea. First off the curry was SO DAMN good. I could've just licked the entire bowl clean (but got full instead). I love when the veggies incorporated in embraces the curry flavor. The pad Thai was served with the egg omelet instead of the egg embedded into the noodles, which according to our server, that is the authentic Thai way. It does not take away from the original flavors. FYI they offer the spice rack if you're looking for more as well. Coming from a city where Thai food was commonplace, it really bummed me out that Seattle catered to so much to Thai Fusion. If you're looking for true Thai food, this is your kind of place. Thank you to our wonderful server whom I didn't catch the name of (the receipt said "Dinner" under server so unless that was your name....) for being courteous about our group of 8 taking up a large chunk of the restaurant. He graciously brought us extra waters and pitchers, cleared unnecessary plates to make space, and spilt the check at the end. Some of us tipped on top of the automatic gratuity because of how well we were treated. The food itself was standard fare--spiciness levels were consistent, flavors were correct--but at prices higher than we are used to. I had the pad Thai and the spicy level was on point. It was spicy enough for the food to hit your nose but not overly spicy that the other flavors like lime were pronounced. Damn! I remember going here a couple of times ago when I still lived in Bellevue with the 'rents, and wasn't so used to going out for meals. I love Thai food, and I remember liking my experiences here. When I came here when craving Thai after helping out a little for the HG Lodge EE set-up, I was... quite disappointed. The Phad Thai had lots of that extra red colored sauce that I don't like (messy, tastes very artificial to me), and there was egg all over the top. I'm used to there being SOME egg mixed in, but not a whole bunch at the top. I know some people love egg, but I... am not much of a fan. The prices were good, but I think I'll go elsewhere for Thai on the Hill next time. Note: I love all kinds of Thai dishes, but Phad Thai is still my #1. Incredibly tasty and affordable Thai food. Really don't let the outside and horrible soft pop music fool you. This place is a gem. There is a lot of mediocre Thai in this city and only a few places that stand out. Ayutthaya is one of them. While I have yet to try some of the staple Thai food, their creativity and spices make any dish incredible. We tried a variety of tasty items. Some incredible fried squash, creamy soup with mushrooms and tofu (so incredible), heavenly beef (if you like Mongolian beef this is even better), and the sidewalk fish (named so because they have to walk the fish outside to the sidewalk to lay the boiling sauce over it, great to watch!) Everything was delicious and relatively cheap. No room for dessert, but I know I will be back. Seriously though, the music is terrible. Rod Stewart and Elton John over and over again. Also the outside looks like a hole-in-the-wall sort of place. And a lot of the patrons will sit besides you thinking they are Nietzsche since they took phil 101. So a lot of mindless babble, try not to snort! But the fast and friendly service makes up for all of that. Your water glass is never empty for long! read more

Delivery is a HUGE RIPOFF! You'll waste your money, wait forever, and end up hungry. We'd been to the restaurant before and remembered it as being a good, affordable place, so we decided to try their delivery service via GrubHub. It's a $25 minimum with free delivery, so we got the chicken pad thai ($11), the crispy garlic chicken ($12.50), and the cucumber salad ($2). When the order was placed, they said it would take about an hour. Then we got an email saying they were busy and it would be more like 1.5 hrs. It ended up being an hour and fifteen minutes, aka just enough time to make everything cold and congealed. The chicken pad thai was a cold, gluey mess, and despite the relatively high price, had hardly any chicken in it. The "crispy" garlic chicken was soggy, cold, and more like an appetizer-size portion: about a half-dozen pieces of mostly breading. As you can see in the photo, the small carton it came in was mostly empty. The cucumber salad, which we mostly got to hit the $25 minimum, was the best part -- at least it was SUPPOSED to be cold! Just completely pathetic. Slow delivery, overpriced, cold food, and tiny portions = the worst Thai food I've had in Seattle, probably ever. read more

Would have given another star if the waitress didn't seem so irritated with the fact we sent back our Diet Pepsi since it tasted like crap. I told them it tasted as if the syrup needed changing, but they insisted it was fine. We finally just switched to Sprite. I would only dine at Ayutthaya for happy hour (4-6 pm and 9-close) due to their prices. It seems like the place has been declining on their quality. My favorite happy hour dish to nibble on are their chicken wings. These wings are steaming hot with crispy skin and juicy meat. Personally I think the dipping sauce that accompanies it is unnecessary since these wings are just delicious. Besides the wings, I find the happy hour offerings to be mediocre. The one thing I would stay away from the hh menu is their phad thai, which was way too saucy and sweet. When eating here, the service is A+ and the food is delicious. However, when ordering take-out, the portions are dramatically lessened. If you eat at the restaurant, all of their dinner menu items come as expected, on a regular sized dinner plate with good portions. When you order these same items for take-out, they come in small boxes that are the same length of my iPhone5. I'm disappointed, as I like their food and their service has always been great. However, when you spend $9 on each dish and they barely fill your cereal bowl at home, that's just a bit ridiculous. Tonight was my last chance for Ayutthaya, to give me a good take-out experience. Ayutthaya is my favorite Thai food on Capitol Hill! We love going here Fridays for an easy night off from cooking. We ALWAYS get Pad See Ew and Fresh Rolls which are absolutely bomb. The staff is friendly and attentive. We have only had a minor online ordering fluke and they fixed it right away with no issues. Definitely try out Ayutthaya for takeout or dining in! Dropped by for a quick dinner with my father on a weekday evening and the place was pretty quiet save for a few tables. The service was great- the waitress lovely with a beautiful smile. I also loved the 90s and 00s music they played-- I was very tempted to sing along... okay, maybe I totally did in my head. The food was okay. My standby for Thai food is pad thai- I figure most people can't mess it up and it's good food. We ordered the phad thai and the coconut chicken. The phad thai was... pinker... than other phai thais I have had in the past. It was also sweeter and the sauce thicker. However, it also came with little chunks of tofu which were great. The coconut chicken was delicious, especially the curry sauce it comes with. The chicken was cooked and sliced-- and I couldn't decide if it was a little on the dry side or if it was the way it was cut that I felt it was dry. The sauce was still good. The meal was a little pricey for Thai, but I figure that's Capitol Hill prices. $2.50 for a bowl of brown rice did seem excessive though. I got the pad see ew twice and the pad Thai once; the portions are really good size I felt like it was reasonably priced but just the taste of the food doesn't give you a real Thai flavor. Delicious and central. We love Thai food but have been let down countless times by Thai restaurants with good to great reviews online. While it's not the best Thai, it's certainly a solid place to get your Thai fix. But just a note of caution: they don't mess with spice! So if you are sensitive to spice, definitely recommend downgrading that spice level down a notch! Stir fry duck dish was delicious but still pretty spicy at a 2. I might just go with 1 for next time. Also noticed the dishes get saltier the higher you go on the spice scale. Perhaps their spice mix also has some sodium in it? We also got a Prik King dish at level 3 and it was a lot saltier. I got the Pad See Ew through Grub Hub. Unfortunately the driver was 2 hours late so the food was warm which we had to heat up but that is not the fault of the restaurant but Grub Hub rather. I would say the quality is not as good as some other restuarants that I like. I only tried the Pad See Ew and it was okay. Wish there was more flavor to my order. Having been to Thailand twice, I have been able to judge the different dishes with my travel experience and there are other thai restaurants that do a better job.
