There may be some confusion with the name on Yelp/Google and the restaurant sign. I guess their official name is AZ diner but was previously named Nick's diner. A very old school family diner feel. You can tell it is a local favorite. Looked like a lot folks came here after their golf outings. The menu is large and a bit overwhelming. Ultimately we got the Zaira Dream (Denver breakfast sandwich) and the Jaden Super (bagel breakfast sandwich). Both were filling and decent but nothing extraordinary. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We went a second time during our trip with a larger party and had a similar experience with food and service quality. The stars of the second day were the bacon and cheeseburger.

My fiancé, me and my future father in law are brunch at AZ Diner. They've been here many times but this was my first time. Our food was excellent. I ordered the one egg breakfast skillet with bacon and wheat toast. My future father in law ordered the one egg two pancakes with sausage and my fiancé ordered one egg, potato cake and a piece of French toast. Our beverage was coffee and water. Our waitress was wonderful, warm and friendly. She provided service with a smile. The restaurant is quintessential. Adorned with cute decorations and inviting to everyone who walks through the doors. We loved our food; the portions were big so bring your appetite. We will be back in the future to try more of their menu items.

Went here on a busy Sunday, and sat at the bar. Service took about seven minutes, which was fine for such a busy day. We ordered a burger, and chicken fried steak and eggs. First off let me say that you can't improve on things like eggs, or toast. You just do them right and fast. AZ Diner did both. The food was exactly as you would expect it to be. Very good. As I said, it was crowded and the orders were flying. Tempers between the expediter and the cooks were high, and there were verbal arguments. The ambiance was breakfast and a show! The menu was huge and the place was busy. We will go again though.

An excellent, family-oriented restaurant with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch offerings, great service, reasonable prices, a welcoming atmosphere, and early morning hours. Known for their pancakes and hash-brown-wrapped omelets, it's a place you can't just dine at once. There's so much delicious food to try that it's a reason to keep coming back.

It's a little confusing finding this place because the sign outside says Nick's II. I guess that's the old name . I've been here before for breakfast and I enjoyed it. Now it's time to try the oil you can eat Friday fish fry! This place has a nice diner vibe and is very welcoming. $25.99 is on the high end of what most places are a charging for all you can eat cod but not unreasonable. Especially since this fish is good and the service is above average. I was told the fish is Alaskan cod. It was a little greasy, but not too bad. The tartar sauce, coleslaw and french fries were just mediocre. The servers are great and fish refills were faster than most places. And guess what, I got a free slice of pie when I was finished. How can you beat that? I'll definitely be back.

We found this amazing diner on Yelp. After looking over the menu I realized this was the place to go. The diner (I use the term loosely) was bright, clean and in spite of being packed was quiet. We were seated quickly and our server was there to take our drink order. The menu is packed with standard diner options along with some great specials. I had to have the open face roast beef with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The gravy was what I expected from a diner, dark brown and tasty. My wife had eggs and potato pancakes. Tasty all around. If you are in Phoenix area this is a great side trip.

AZ Diner is definitely a solid contender in an area peppered with other choices in diner's. The place is spacious with modest decor. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were taken without delay. What impressed me the most was the huge menu with page after page of great looking offerings. I opted for the liver & onions, mashed potatoes & gravy and green beans. The liver was good, but prefer onion strings rather than diced onions. The mashed potatoes were pretty stellar, but unfortunately the green beans seemed steamed and tasted raw. I couldn't eat those at all. My wife had the Gyro and a Greek salad. She thought they were pretty good. With so many great offerings, good service and reasonable prices, I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

I would've given this place 5 stars but our server was helping everybody but us.. we waited 45 minutes for our food but once we got it, it was delicious! We also had spoke to the owner about the wait and the server and he gave us one of his HUGE cinnamon rolls for free since the food took a long time. Overall it was a good experience.

Tasty, affordable and friendly staff. My complain is before the pandemic I ordered for Uber to pick some food for me at Nicks Diner. The owner got angry and mistreated the Uber driver for picking up food for me. He didn't want Uber having business through them. Which doesn't make sense, he still getting business but I hope he understood the benefit of delivery after all. read more

Good place for a diner type experience. I often crave hash browns, or potato pancakes, or regular pancakes, or bacon, or biscuits and gravy, or any combo of the fore mentioned. Staff is really friendly. They have a great rewards program. It can get busy, so plan ahead and don't wait until your hangry to head over there. The wait isn't usually very long, so that's good! A great place to have around if you are a local. read more

Just moved here from Chicago and was pleased to find a place for breakfast like I was used to, big menu, good prices and excellent service. We walked in young lady at front desk asked how many ( no welcome, hello etc), then asked name, next group ( white) comes in, "Hello, how many today?, name, you should be seated shortly, no wait" very friendly to them, lady acted like it was painful to even ask us how many....... we just refuse to eat where you feel not wanted! read more

I don't think I've ever been disappointed and I always try to get something different! Such delicious breakfast! My absolute favorite is their country fried steak!! Also get their seasoned fries. We always come here for breakfast, the breakfast is always AMAZING!!!! We came for lunch today and if this would have been the first time coming here I would have never gone again. Fries tasted freezer burned and were over cooked, our fish was cold and everything tasted bland. Angel was our server and normally is our server and she is always patient and very tentative. read more

I've come here before. I think it was the morning of my birthday but I'm not sure. I came with two friends. Since it has been months since the time that I tried this place I don't remember exactly what I had. I know that I had a sandwich and it tasted amazing. I wanna say I got a pickle on the side. Which I'm a pickle fanatic so I was very pleased. I do remember that we had great service from the waitress. She was very attentive. I was impressed with the food and I would definitely try his place again when I have the chance. It's a pretty decent sized place as well. Wasn't thrilled with Nick's the last time and thought we give them a second chance. Huge mistake!!! Order came to us incorrectly, then it took a time for the food to come back. It wasn't anything special to rave about. The eggs were just okay but the potato patties had no flavor - more like cardboard. And we never got another cup of coffee. So don't expect a good tip for so-so service. We will NOT go back here again. read more

Went in with my parents when I was visiting them recently. We were in search of Fish & Chips. They have a Friday Fish special I had been told so went to check it out. It did not disappoint. The fish was very clean tasting. The batter was not too heavy or burnt as it can be sometimes when ordering fried fish. Only let down was the fries as there really wasn't any flavor to them whatsoever. They just tasted like a starchy blob. They needed some seasoning of some sort. I will go back but order something others than fries with the meal if possible. read more

Love love love their food. They have a great $6.49 breakfast deal and their lunch and dinner specials come with a free drink. They are also the only place you can find their delicious lemon chicken and rice soup. Great prices too! My only complaint is it took months of visiting before a server finally told us about your frequent card to build up points. So many points we missed out on. read more

For breakfast this place is awesome. Ton of food for what you pay. For lunch and dinner it's ok. Some things on the menu are disappointing while others taste really good. Although I love Nick's diner, it's clearly going downhill. The last two times we were in for breakfast, the food was very disappointing. Yesterday I ordered the breakfast special number 14, eggs over medium with porkchops. The eggs, while looking over medium, turned out to be runny to the extent where they were still raw. The porkchops, which I've had before and were wonderful, tasted like somebody marinated them in a salt brine for days! It is extremely rare that I don't finish my breakfast, but this was so awful I left most of it on the plate and took one porkchop home for my cat! The service and ambience is still great at this neighbor diner, but clearly someone else has been doing the cooking during our last two visits. I don't think will be going back anytime soon or at least until we see them advertise for a new breakfast cook! read more

We ordered take out through the surprise delivery Express and I was very very very please when our first experience with Nick's Diner 2. We ordered a gyro sandwich with onion rings and ranch. There was a slight upcharge for the onion rings but that's okay because they were delicious! The amount of gyro meat on the Pita was amazing! And that's a tziaki sauce was on point! We also ordered the fettuccine alfredo. It was a very nice sized portion with a large amount of alfredo sauce. Both meals tasted like heaven. The ranch that I got with my onion rings is amazing also! I also got a specialty latte (can't remember which) and that was bitter and not at all something I'd get again. To recap: you can't go wrong with the pancakes or chicken fried steak. Make sure to ask for salsa. Skip the latte. Overall the experience was great and I'd go back next time we're in town.

I had never been to First Watch before, but I expected a wait. I checked in and was quoted 25 minutes for a party of four. After 30 minutes, I checked in again and was told I was second in line. A few more minutes went by, so I asked again, and now I was fifth in line. I was confused, and they explained that people checking in online could jump ahead of me. They also said they were unable to accurately quote a wait time, and that it could end up being much longer. I know many other places use a hybrid check-in system, and I've never experienced an issue like this. I understand when things simply take longer than expected, but tables were being turned over and people were being seated. I must have just been incredibly unlucky with the timing of people checking in online. After finally being seated about 45 minutes later, we put our order in right away since we were now going to be cutting it close. I'm used to breakfast places being pretty quick, but it took another 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We ended up being 15 minutes late to the movie. I expected the opening credits to still be rolling, so I wasn't too stressed, but we definitely missed the first five minutes or so of the movie. The food was pretty good, but my eggs were over hard when I had ordered them over medium. What disappointed me the most was that nobody seemed to care that the quoted wait time was so far off. There was no apology or acknowledgment. Our waitress was okay, but she avoided our table like the plague while we were waiting for our food, probably because she knew it was taking so long. Empathy and kind words go a long way.

Huge shoutout to a local gem! If you haven't been to AZ Diner (formerly known as Nick's Diner II over on Litchfield Rd) in Surprise yet, you are seriously missing out. We stopped in for a meal and the food was absolutely wonderful. We're talking massive portions, classic homestyle cooking, and the kind of welcoming warmth that makes you feel right at home the second you walk through the door. Honestly, I think Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives needs to make a stop here. I'm sure he'd give it top ratings just like me! Thumbs up Az Diner. In terms of Surprise cuisine, Nick's is my favorite. I love the generous portions, the country style breakfasts, the piled-high sandwiches, the tasty entrees, and the menu selection of what I call "real" food. The food and service is top notch and your glass will never stay empty for long! It's family-friendly, casual dining. The new location is larger and able to accommodate more diners. The look and feel of the new diner is friendly and the artistry of the giant chalk board is delightful and adds to the atmosphere. My husband loves the pancakes and I love the sandwiches. Nick's is an amazing place for great homemade food. Just the other day I had an issue at Nicks Diner and I addressed it with the manager right when it happened and the situation was quickly rectified and I was a 100% satisfied. I think it's a shame that people cannot speak up in the moment when something is wrong instead they have to turn to social media with cyber courage to bring down the hard work of a small business. Have visited this place many times. each time we go the food gets worse. Servers are always friendly and for the most part efficient. But the food is not very good. Tonight the credit card machine was having problems and we had to wait a pretty long time for our card to go through. Waitress apologized many times. They could have offered us desert on the house or something but instead just made us sit and wait. Not sure we will go back. Entire family disappointed. read more

Don't eat here if you have a disability. They discriminate. Saw a couple of guys come in with a clearly identified service dog. After they ate and paid, the owner told the young man that he isn't disabled and the dog wasn't a service animal. Told them they weren't welcome and to not come back. They didn't do anything wrong. Watched the whole thing. That guy needs to learn his ADA laws. I hope the young man sues the owner for violating his civil rights. read more

Just a quick note: The HEALTH LAW in Arizona is that no outside drinks or food can be brought into a restaurant or bar. Nicks diner is going by the HEALTH LAW when they say no outside drinks can be brought in. In Arizona a restaurant/bar can be closed down by the HEALTH DEPARTMENT . My only negative take away is that the booths are a little tight. Full disclosure; I am 6'5" @ 280lbs. Second¹: Amy was our server and got to us quickly. It was obvious that this was not her first rodeo. She was very clear with answers and made additional offers to compliment our choices. Amy never let our water or coffee get low. We were not her only customers. She brought the complete order at one time and it was exactly as ordered. Third: The food. Everything was cooked as ordered. The portions were not lacking. If you leave this restaurant hungry, it's your fault. The only negative take away was that the food could have been a bit warmer. Personal preference. Fourth: Atmosphere. Even though it was busy, the noise level was quite low. Folks of all ages were present. I observed the greeter, Dawn wiping tables and chairs as people left. She did not just wipe around the condiment station, she moved everything so that she could do a complete wipe down. She even wiped down the side edges of the tabled and wiped off the chairs. This brings me to my fifth point of view. Cleanliness- Bathrooms will tell you a lot about the staff. Both the men's and woman's bathrooms were immaculate and well stocked. I was impressed with the soap dispenser having real soap instead of the cheap foam. I highly recommend JiMichael's for the whole family or a luncheon or special occasion dinner.
