Azama's food is good enough IF (and I mean a big old elephant in the room of an "if") they can get your order right. Basically, if you're not planning on going into the actual restaurant, don't even bother. First of all, whoever is working the phones is rude as hell. I can deal with being on hold for a minute at a time. It's not really a big deal for me, just a minor nuisance. I can't deal with the attitude that I inevitably receive from the guy on the phone when he can't figure out my phone number despite the fact that I've repeated myself multiple times, I'm not stuttering or mumbling, and he's clearly trying to talk to someone else at the same time as he's "taking my order." Then, IF IF IF IF IF they get your order right, it gets to your door soggy and not hot (I live within 3 blocks) and the driver will DEMAND a tip from you. I always tip, and better than some, but this guy is seriously pushing it. I once gave him a five dollar tip, which is more than standard for a delivery guy, and he held his hand out and asked for more. Then he asked me for weed. I'm not shitting you. I got my food upstairs and the two cokes I ordered with my food were two bottles of water. Azama is run by unprofessional jackasses. Don't waste your time. read more

Sometimes I get this feeling when I go into a restaurant - it's a giddy feeling that stems from something in the restaurant that excites me. In this case, it was the kabob grill, the rotisseries (whatever they're really called) and the raw kabobs marinating in the refrigerated display case ready to be grilled fresh. After I took this all in I couldn't wait to get my food. I had the kafta kabob - meat was perfectly cooked, just a tad rare on the inside (how I like it). Salad that came with it was also light and good. Baba ganouj, while more like a hummus, was also very good on chewy pita. The guys that worked there were very friendly, and when I told them that this was my first time there, they gave my friend and me a complimentary dessert! Great staff, great food, great price! This place is awesome. They have amazing middle eastern food. My boyfriend and order from here frequently, reasonably priced and hefty portions. One of the best falafel I've had in Boston and almost on par with what I've had in Israel. It's the best hummus I've ever had too. I would say I wasn't super impressed with the spanakopita (spinach pie) but my family is Greek and I think I'm just used to my mom's more. all the hot plates with rice and salad are amazing though. I went to Azama Grill today when my parents came up to visit for an easy, tasty lunch. It looked like such a little hole in the wall and we were the only ones there. First we got a side order of baba ganoush to share, and it was the freshest, most delicious baba I've had in a long time. Then I got a falafel wrap, which comes with an amazing homemade hot sauce to put in it. The falafel was very flavorful and so tasty. You can really tell everything there was made fresh to order. I've been to the Middle East more than once and this falafel really impressed me! My stepmom got the shwarma and my dad got the chicken kabob, and everyone was highly pleased. Best of all, we wanted a piece of baklava for dessert, and my stepmom ended up getting one of each kind of tasty phyllo dough treat for us to split. They were all sooo delicious!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area who wants yummy and very affordable Middle Eastern food :) read more

Azama, Azama, Azama.......I truly hope this is just a bump in the road and not the beginning of the end of our relationship. Your food is still delicious and affordable, hence, the 4 stars. But your service has recently cost you the fifth (and even drove me to write my first review), and is threatening to cost you more. The last three times I've called (once for pick-up, twice for delivery, all in the past month), I've been greeted by an annoyed and impatient voice who immediately put me "oh hold," which just means I get to listen to a kitchen of people talk with each other and customers for 4-5 minutes until The Voice comes back, seeming barely interested enough in my order to stay on the line. But, if this were the only problem, I could easily look past it. Plenty of places have less-than-ideal phone service, especially small places that have fewer employees and have to keep stuff moving. II get it. But then we get to the delivery.... Both times when the delivery man arrived, he's refused to come to my apartment because he can't find parking (he's the only delivery man in the city this seems to be a problem for) and has insisted that I come down. Again, not a terribly big deal. But then, BOTH times, he has shorted me on my change. I'd like to chalk it up to a simple mistake because he seems to be in such a rush, but the way he shoves a wad of cash into my hands and then bolts out the door before I can untangle and count it (again, this happened the same way TWICE in less than a month) makes me think it's clearly on purpose. And really, if you're going to be rude on the phone, and then literally steal money from me when you deliver my food, the least you could do is not drop my order as clearly happened last time. Of course, I didn't realize this had happened until I got back into my apartment and found a lake of juice and sauce at the bottom of the delivery bag and a container of cold food that looked like it'd been through a hurricane. Perhaps I could have asked the delivery guy what happened to it, but he was already long gone (with a couple extra of my dollars). Like I said, I love your food, and really hope this has just been some isolated incidents (though 3 times in a month seems like a pattern to me). I'll probably give you one more try, but with more and more places opening up in Allston with good Middle Eastern food, I fear our relationship may be nearing an end. read more

beef/lamb shawarma or chicken kabob plate with Egyptian fries = complete satisfaction! the beef/lamb shawarma was so flavorful! love the cucumber salad, it's like a fresh cucumber and tomato salad with salsa. the chicken kabobs were cooked perfectly, nice and crispy on the outside and so tender & juicy inside! they also went so well with the moist, flavorful rice. after my chicken kabob plate i was so stuffed, but still managed to chow down on some of the Egyptian fries, which taste best after you let them cool off, they're sprinkled with a little salt and seasoning then topped with mayo & it's deliciousness! read more

One of the main reasons we went here was because they were open till 2 AM. I did not have that high of expectations coming here, but I was pleasantly surprised. The shawarma rolls were excellent and the meat was tasty. The fries were just average with a lot of white sauce on top. I had him make me a hommos with shawarma meat on top which was not even on the menu. The one down side i'd say was the AC inside did nothing. We were sweating just sitting in the restaurant. Just like the 5 stars say "As good as it gets" EVERYTHING on the menu is top notch and not to mention very very cheap. The Shawarma (both chicken and lamb beef) are staples and you cannot go wrong. The Falafel is the best I've ever had anywhere and I must eat the hummus almost everyday. The babagonoush is something you have to try (not just for the funny name, its delicious). The kabobs are to die for (lamb is the way to go) and if you are very hungry get the HUGE kafta stick. All of them can be sandwiches or plates (which come with great rice and some pita bread). The hot sauce is by far the best hot sauce in Boston (second to NONE) and maybe the best I've ever had. I can name everything on the menu but I will just say, the fish (especially for the price) is unreal period. Everything here is made right and with lots of love. One of my favorite things about Azama Grill is that everything is home made for real and you can taste it because everytime its a little different but always astounding. TRY THIS FOOD - Any of it will floor you. I love Azama, everyone I know loves Azama... and most importantly I'm sure YOU will LOVE Azama The service is fantastic and you will know right away when you feel like you are home. This is hands-down the best middle eastern food in Boston. Shwarma and falafel that are up there with the best stuff in New York. If you have a chance to try the Foul (fava beans), it's also amazing. For a new place I will say the owner is very nice and customer oriented. I do enjoy middle eastern food and would say their falafel is near the top of my list. They offer many samples of their food . Remember the Reef Cafe near the corner of Brighton and Harvard Ave? This place might be better. The falafel and the chicken kababs are amazing- easily the best I've had in Boston- and they're even better with the hot sauce. Found this place on the way home from a night out. I'm a vegetarian so I was excited for some falafel... even bad falafel is delicious late at night. This was divine though - by far the best one I've had in the Boston area so far. Wrapped up tightly in aluminum foil, the sandwich was toasty and from beginning to end. The bits of falafel itself were crunchy and just spicy enough. If you want some more kick they'll also give you a side of some their red sauce (free of charge). The food was GREAT!!! I had the Salmon and it was the best I had ever had..I don't even think I can make it that way!!! It was very moist and full of flavor. Cooked just the way I love it. This place is nothing fancy & may seem even slightly unsanitary by the looks of it BUT if you can get past that they have some pretty good food. Their sharwarma wraps are delicious especially with extra hot sauce and the plates with rice & salad are good as well. My personal favorites are their hummus which I've tried & failed several times to replicate. Grape leaves are good but nothing to write home about. Their cashew fingers & baklava is the best even though it is not made in house and therefore is expensive. Prices are fair & I always leave full. Service is ok but can be kind of slow when they're busy because it's usually only one or 2 guys working. One big plus is that they're open until 2 am & even a little after if it's a full house. Give them a try if you are in the area & a fan of Egyptian /Mediterranean food. read more

so so so so so so so so so good. i spent some time in berlin so i am a middle eastern food snob (lots of middle eastern food places in the turkish neighborhoods in berlin) and i have to say that for this area, this place is the best ive tasted. i had the chicken schwarma and it was amazzinnggg my friend had a combo platter (im not sure exactly what its called) but everything on it- hummus, babaganoush, fallafel, beef or lamb, tabouli etc. was also really really good. everything was made in front of us (fallafel fried, meet grilled etc). great customer service, they even gave us a little plate of "foul" to try and it was delicious. im definitely going to be a regular customer. its cheaper than most other places (usually a fallafel wrap is like 7 or 8 dollars, here its 4 or 5) and probably the best. theyre also working on doing delivery! read more

This place is fantastic; I love going here to eat because it's delicious, healthy and inexpensive. The quality of the food is very authentic, and the staff is always very nice. They have a tendency to hook me up with something like free fries or extra meat as a bonus once in a while, which is a nice incentive to stay loyal to such a small spot like this. read more
